I recall Pi-R talking about it in these threads shortly after VI's release. It was nothing official, but so was the Haruka thing before the betrayal.
All games before 5D+VI were dated, freeware, and translated as part of Maria's keikaku. Sengoku is neither of the above.
Mangagamer sat on 100% translated 5D and VI for more than a year, delaying Quest for a few months would be nothing compared to this.

The thing is that Sill is just an extension of Rance dating back from the early games when Rance didn't care about anyone and her point was that "deep down Rance did at least care about one person"".

Series has moved on a lot and Rance and a whole lot of the other characters have developed a lot while Sill is still exactly the same. The safe heroine with no relationships with anyone bar Rance. We barely see Sill have any interactions with anyone except Rance, she doesn't seem to have any interests beyond Rance and despite having many opportunities to develop her as a character Alicesoft reject it. Rance VI is the most obvious example, compare Rizna and Sill's reaction to returning to Zeth.

We don't see why Sill loves Rance and know why she loves Rance she just does unquestionably so her part of the relationship isn't interesting and now that Rance does actually care about more people its even lost that factor.

Sill has remained the same character since 1989 - the safe, doormat slave who Rance has to rescue all the time.

I don't think the Rance-Sill relationship is one dimensional because it has dimensions on Rance's side of things but its certainly not as interesting as relationships where both characters are actually fluid and develop.

Kanami is great and her relationship with Rance is great fun but things are a lot better the way things they are than they would have if they started out as allies and all love dovey.

Shizuka as Rance's first heroine and main travel partner could have been fun though.

And so, anon studying japanese solely because one got hooked to Rance reporting in. Despite not finishing Rance 03 properly (aka not fucking Gele and so on), I can assuredly say that it's one of the best games I've played and my favorite of Rance's series (from being played Sengoku, VI, Rance 5D and Rance 01). The game itself. The scenes are great despite of not being able to fuck a few of my beloved characters: Mill (it doesn't count if it's not inside) and Lie (it doesn't count of it's not inside). I was slightly afraid of voice acting thing at first, but it turned out to be awesome (not for Sill, though, I would give her a slightly less annoying one, considering her personality). I didn't like the gameplay but then again the only one I liked was sengoku's one it's not a gameplay why I play Rance after all. The charachters are, as always, greatly elaborated, and you see it much better playing in original language. The story is very fun and the writing, even though I don't have much, if any, experience with japanese novels, is very well made. As for the game from a learning standpoint, it's a significant increase of difficulty compared to Rance 01, that derived from various characters personalities, overall length of the game and use of specific terms here and there. I had been doing exactly the same thing as with Rance 01 - writing down and trying to memorize thereafter every unknown word that I happen to encounter. My anki deck after playing Rance 01 was around 4600 words, consisting of ~1600 unique kanji. Now it got a significant upgrade to 8500 words and ~2280 kanji. By the end of the game I was able to read it quite fluently for most of the parts, which I consider to be success. It took me a month overall.
Now for my plans on future, I'm eager to start playing sengoku in japanese for different reasons. I haven't played it for a long time, I like the game, I want to refresh my memories before

I didn't said anything about writing so. My low standarts for "knowing the kanji" are that I'm able to read it precisely and get the meaning in a given context.

Why would I need to need it if my sole reason for studying it is just reading fluently? I don't need to write anything by hand, neither do most of the japanese people nowadays. There you can take a look at unique kanji count of some eroge https://tlwiki.org/?title=Talk:VN/Eroge_Script_sizes . Some of them suprass 3000, but in average it's more than 2.2k. I hardly doubt they are written for people that are somehow beyond "average".

So, applying this... why is it used by many in a derogatory sense? The argument seems to be:
It's less entertaining if you are experiencing a narrative to see characters with defined roles... because it is the evolution of characters which is enjoyable.

so then the reason I like S-R is the same reason I like rance: it's relateable and so i live vicariously through it and so there's no such thing as too much... i don't need the narrative or the evolution because it's great as-is

I'm not very sure why, but I think they are a bit less afraid to ignore market expectations than other eroge devs. At the very least, if I were making an H game, I wouldn't make one that would guilt trip the player most of the time the protag fucked someone like Toushin Toshi or make the damn tutorial 1/3 of the whole game like in Daibanchou. This isn't always a good thing as Rance Quest was a glorified fan disk, and them trying to make Daiteikoku an RTS then being forced to scrap it probably was a major factor in making the end product so mediocre, but the good games end up unique and good.

It also feels like whether they are making drama, comedy, gameplay, and lewd, they go forth with passion and pride. They are eroge maker and they don't give a fuck if the first letter in the sentence isn't capitalized. I'm probably deifying them too much though.

He is genuinely afraid of Rance, so if you kill him he will grant you lenience and a great boon: removing the Angel Eater class.

Considering that the tradeoff for being an Angel Eater is rough sex every once in a while in exchange for possibly unlimited power, I'm not sure how this is a notion to entertain.

And I mean, if the Oni King is afraid of Rance, and he thinks you can kill Rance, why not just take him out?

Unfortunately, as Seed, thinking was never your strong point.

the emotional tension was well done and really unique at some points.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked into Mamatoto and I enjoy that kind of gameplay: it seems very similar to Rance IX.

I'm not terribly excited for another protag like Nanas, to be honest I've about had my fill of white knighting and morality preaching in TT2.

However, there do seem to be a number of supporting characters of interest.

Ultimately what turned me away from Evenicle was that the protag (Aster) had no real agency. The plot suggests that one should fit into the established rules and find his way in the system. The theme was definitively not larger than life in the way the Rance series is.

In the end for me it's not really about lots of brutal rape or anything (as some have come to understand it) but about self-determination, great feats and bravado. I don't consider anything done in the name of true love or similar to fit that bill because such a man not self-determined.

I mean some could argue that he grows out of it or that the plot evolves, but after playing TT2 I see that people can make those claims incorrectly. As I wrote >>180650290 , Seed has zero character development, the canonical ending is that he is exactly the same.

I suppose there is a certain kind of person who doesn't really want to change into a better man, just be the same but also have the girl. I think that's quite a common desire and the game is pandering to that. But it's an unhealthy mindset and I think we should fight it wherever it shows its ugly face.

Also the MT was really tough to follow. I can do MT games but it takes about 5x the time so I really need to enjoy it. Voice helps a lot.
