All right, chart time! Been a while since we busted this out.

We've had some updates since the last time we looked at this, so let's tally up what we know about this roster.
Remember, we know there'll be 25 slots for playable incarnations.

So far, we've got 11 revealed characters
>Zebei, Tungar, Razmi, Dhar, Ginseng&Honey, Qadira, Baozhai, Phoebe, Vasco, Ren, Yan
plus 4 more confirmed characters
>Naga Rider, Lanshi, Sangmu, Backer Character
and 2 very very safe bets
>Thorani, Kampan

That leaves us with 8 slots, for these characters
>Kushi, Tenoch, Antoine, Zahra, Hassam, Leilani, Toko, George, Narssus, Kogi, Kaldi, Tatanka, Nuna

Which means, even if no more brand new characters are added, we won't be seeing at least 5 characters from the IGG list as playable under the 25 character limit.

That's a lot, and probably explains how redesigns like Vasco happened.
Old Vasco was probably on the chopping block unless they revamped his gameplay/archetype into something they felt the core roster needed (i.e. the top half of the chart).
However, giving Vasco the rapier, melanin, and dapper attitude now, might mean they've firmly kicked Antoine off of the playable list.

So who else might be set for cutting or fusion-ing? Could Narssus get throwing knives? Will George use a flamethrower? Will Nuna become a chef?

even though I really like hassam's design, he's probably been one of the least popular guys. I barely ever saw any fanart for him.

but he had one of the most unique weapons, so I bet his playstyle is going to end up merged with somebody else.

I guess it would make sense to just roll that extra gear into kampan's arm, give it more options.

I wonder which of these characters is challenged the most while utilizing their tools, and which one has it the easiest.

Like, Eliza seems she has the most skill with her parasitic morphing, but it might have taken decades for her and Sekhmet to learn how to use their powers effectively. (it's like they learned how to play Street Fighter with a dance pad.)

Meanwhile Ms. Fortune's powers might feel second nature to her, which is why she got good with them in such a short time. (She started on a Hitbox.)

Dahlia might have had a shot, but Umbrella and Marie were never going to win the character vote. Annie would have probably won the third vote if they had one.

If we had gotten the funding total to $2M though, then probably we could have gotten them in eventually.

if that'd happened, LZ would probably still be working on SG today, stuck under Autumn's shitty contract, and still stuck having to port updates to PS3/360.

Finally grabbed the story mode dlc. it's like every year there's always something new in SG that makes it feel like a brand new game no matter how many times i've reinstalled it. Just got SFV recently but it hasn't even been a month and I already feel like I've reached a dead end with it. The characters and fighting just feel so bland and generic, not to mention half of them are locked behind season passes. Can you imagine if skullgirls added some kind of offline loot drop system? Man, I would never uninstall it. Earn exp offline and gain a new rank, I would never need another fighting game. I really really hope they add some kind of exp system to SG 2. The rewards don't even need to be costumes and stuff, just a shiny new player icon/chat emote/concept art/art gallery/etc. I wouldn't even complain if I just gained levels that didn't do anything, just gave me a new rank. I'm assuming you have some experience with fighting games, but just in case you're not, here's a full breakdown. skip to '**' for a direct tip.

it's all about timing. technically, an attack is a combo when it manages to connect while the opponent is still in hitstun from the previous attack. if the combo counter restarts, that means you performed a reset, and your opponent had an opportunity to block or reversal out of your pressure. very important to know.

every attack deals different hitstun, so some moves require you to chain your follow up attack faster than others. even though your inputs might feel fast, you'll probably need to press them even faster at certain points in order to keep the combo going. this tends to be true when comboing off of jabs or multi-hitting moves.

**if you go into training mode, you can turn on a "hitstun bar" option that displays how much time your moves have to connect. try turning that on along with slow-motion and then try performing the same string from the tutorial. you should get an idea where your combo is starting to drop and where you need to speed up your inputs.

well you said you were recognizing when the combo counter changed, so that's more observant than most.

it's most likely that you're not fast enough at certain parts, but yeah, inputting too fast can be bad too.
there's a sweetspot where you want to chain the next attack during your character's recovery frames, but before your opponent is out of hitstun.

just practice it a bit in training mode, you'll get a feel for it eventually. a lot of it comes down to muscle memory.

I think my controller might just be old, I can't really tell if it's just the game itself having attack cooldowns or if some of my buttons are occasionally sticky/unresponsive or not, I specifically notice it with my B button while trying to play Parasoul but I can't really tell if it's a problem anywhere else or that's just how Parasoul's controls are or not.

I feel like trying to play with a bad controller isn't the best of ideas, regardless.

but hey, that might be a sign that you're a natural fit for fighting games. definitely toy around with those training mode options and see if you can get a handle on your controls.

Keep at it anon. The big lesson in these is determination, and slowly getting your fingers to find these kinds of sequences less and less intimidating. Take a break and do Arcade mode too if you want.

You can also go into Training mode and start figuring out your own stuff that might feel more comfortable for you. Now that you know how combos generally work, you can practice putting your own together. Maybe try shorter combos, or ones with button sequences you can press easier. Practice those, and you might find the tutorial combos a little easier when you come back to them later.

they're typically referred to as "quarter circles" (down, down-forward, forward) some people also call them "fireball motion"

the "Z" ones (forward, down, down-forward) go by a few names but are typically called "DPs" (as in Dragon Punch, which is Ryu's super move from Street Fighter).

getting used to those inputs is one of the trickier parts of learning traditional fighting games. Skullgirls is pretty lenient with the timing though, and you'll never need to learn more than a few kinds of motions to know everyone's moves. once you get used to doing quarter circles, you know most of the super moves in the game.

yep. there are character specific tutorials towards the end of the tutorial menu that run through all of the moves for each character, and a command list for the character you're playing in the pause menu.

to learn the deeper ins and outs of every character though, you'll have to do some research. look up guides on the forums, analyze high level matches, and experiment on your own.

Eliza can definitely be a way to learn the game if you want to practice using her. any character you have fun playing that motivates you to improve is helping you learn.

and Skullgirls has a very balanced roster, so that's a plus as you improve. every character can kick ass in the right hands.

It's been a fun run guys, but after 6 hours of tutorial that i failed to complete i realized that this game takes way too much time to be enjoyed at a bare minimum level and getting good takes way too much time.

Ranged heavyweight would be an interesting character, with lots of explosions.

Could have a three button heavy punch combo of

>tank turret spins around, hitting the opponent in the jaw from below like an uppercut punch, causing a small launch effect

Being able to detach the tank and do stuff with it remotely would be neat too, like how Beowulf can drop Hurting and pick it back up.

the bare minimum of enjoyment for most folks is mashing buttons and goofing off. plenty of people do that and have fun. it's like strumming a guitar when you don't know how to play. it's cool.

but truly learning a fighting game is something everyone has to do at their own pace. it's a set of unique skills you acquire which need time (like guitar).

Skullgirls' tutorial breaks down what used to be months of acquired game and genre knowledge, and compresses it into little chunks. what you've learned in 6 hours might equate to what you would have learned in a year of going to the arcade back in the day. that's what makes the tutorial so helpful, even though it's still hard.

anyway, point is, 6 hours isn't that much, so don't feel like you're behind the curve if you ever want to try it out again. good luck out there.

generally the sign that you're "ready" for online is when the AI feels pretty easy for you, but you can learn a ton from playing other people on your level too.
you might have an easier time finding other newcomers like yourself during this sale period, so ask around. maybe start a group if you can.

Throne of Isis (nigga running with a bed, quarter circle forward + lk) is projectile inmune and it makes the oponent respect it. Weight of Anubis (manhole nigga, quarter circle forward + HK) delivers the oponent right to you if it hits. Your crouching heavy kick absorbs an unlimited amount of projectiles and moves you forward too.

Well now that the salt has worn off, I can't be mad. A year ago /lzg/ was the butt of the joke in the 4CC for having not turned in an export for VGL 6. Six months later, /lzg/ made its proper debut in VGL 7 and worked all the way from the qualifiers to the Round of 16 and making a name for itself. Fast forward to the present and we just made it the finals and cemented our status as Elite. Nobody can take that away from us and I'm proud of what the team has done, to the point where /lzg/ was the leading contender for the Golden Boot, Golden Ball, AND Golden Glove all at once. I look forward to whatever happens in the future and I hope you will be there for the ride back to the top.

I think MvCI will still sell all right, maybe better than SFV just from the Marvel name. But the bad PR and bad first impressions might still kill it, even if it has decent gameplay.

The situation reminds me a lot of SFxT. I actually think post patch SFxT was a good game, but it still ended up deader than dead because of those bad first impressions. Kinda crazy to remember that game released only a month before SG too.

well I didn't own a PS3 or 360, so no point in pre-ordering. just had to sit and hope for a PC release, which at the time seemed like a shot in the dark after Mike shared that they were all laid off from Reverge.

but anyway, what made me interested in SG was this old piece that Alex Ahad had posted on his DA from before they started working on the game. I thought both of these ladies looked cool, so I kept tabs on how his project was coming along after that.

Depends on where you live. You'll get matches online, particularly because of the sale. Lobbies fill up fairly easily and if you ask on discord people will play.

Even when it's not on sale SG gets more avg players than a lot of other fighting games, which is impressive for its age.
During sale the numbers shoot up crazy. We've been soaring above GGXrd, which is cool but kinda sad when you think about it.
Fighting games just don't draw a huge crowd, but thankfully you only need to find one other person in order to run some decent sets with.

If you want to see actually dead fightan, go look up something like SFxT, Battle Fantasia, or Yatagarasu.

SG is in an interesting place though. A lot of players actually own it on console but still play it on PC. Since SG runs on so many hardware setups, the PC's just the more open platform with the broadest reach by default.

If the game had Console-to-PC crossplay, we might have seen more people playing from whatever their favorite platform was instead. Just a shame that wasn't able to happen.

But about GG, did their playerbase pick up for Rev2? I remember a few anons a while back showing how Xrd was pretty low in daily numbers for regions outside of Japan primetime hours. I think that was for Rev. It'd be good if the numbers finally went up because the game deserves it.

Even if they do a SG2 they might not have the resources to do crossplay.
Mike actually tried to make it happen back when they first put out the PC version, but there was just too much red tape and no money to run servers.

I can't see the situation changing much unless Autumn is swimming in money by then.

I wonder how would they go about setting up a sequel if Marie's, Umbrella's, and Dhalia's "threads of fate" haven't been told yet and Eliza is pretty much out the window as the next main villain like she was originally planned. I think it'd be cool if Filia's story was canon. Since she gets a slow transformation she could just take her Skullgirl form by the end of each story. It'd be interesting because she could be an ally only to become an enemy out of no fault if her own. Painwheel is now Carol and still fights with a giant wheel just upright and in her hand. Marie could be a secret character like Akuma with her story taking place in the past.
