Is there a point to backstep attacks in this game? In fact, is there a point to backsteps at all? A lot of backstep attacks look cool as fuck, but backsteps just seem too bad to be able to use them seriously. I'd love for there to be a reason to backstep instead of just quickstepping backwards apart from just wanting to see the attacks, but they just don't seem useful.

Always hated the saw weapons but I started with Cleaver this time around to give it a try. I regretted it instantly. How can anyone use this terribly boring weapon? The trick/untrick and trick attack animations are so horrible. Seems really strange to me, wouldn't they spend time to make the posterboy weapon feel and look good? I immediately rushed the saw spear and at least this one has interesting and useful moves with animations that actually feel weighty. Trick/untrick animation still looks terribly unrealistic though

Oh on that I definitely agree. Funnily enough, my first str character started with the cleaver and I was immediately unimpressed, rushed cleric to get the kirkhammer and never looked back.
That weapon was actually what taught me how to play the game properly, with the need to attack first and stay aggressive to stagger lock mobs, rather than waiting for an opening that may never come.

The webm isn't comparing the setups that are shown in the guide, where there is more of a difference. You're replacing the 27.2% triangle for another Cold Abyssal with flat bolt/fire so you can still use an Abyssal Bolt/Fire gem as well.

In my Saw Cleaver I have

>Cold abyssal radial
>Cold abyssal triangle with 15 flat fire
>Fire abyssal waning

If I swap that second Cold Abyssal for a 27.2% fire gem (like the guide says) I lose 20~ AR. I lose 15 on my bolt setup doing the same thing (using a Bolt Abyssal from Abhorrent).

The setup shown in the webm is better for high multiplier attacks/combos. I've never done a setup like that for Bolt but I have almost the exact same setup except it's Fire instead of Bolt, and the above setup I use still gives higher AR and does more damage with R1s but less for attacks that have high multipliers and transforming attack combos.

I don't know how an Abhorrent Bolt Abyssal compares to the one he's using in that .webm for that particular setup though, all I know is that Abhorrent Abyssals would almost definitely be better for straight R1 attacks.
