Some sort of hyper plague, probably induced by some sort of ancient nanotech to account for cross species viability. Fucks everyone up to some degree, with all sorts of effects, ranging from killing pops and leaders to randomly gene modding them, for better or worse, or going full zombie plague and having a colony be occupied by hostile mutants. Has a research project you can undertake to cure it. Fucks open borders and federation blobs HARD and practically forces them to break up to some degree. Closed borders with a species much reduces the chances of it spreading to your empire and tight controls over your pops, based on your migration settings to slow its spread once it's in your empire. Once you've researched the cure (a long society? based project) you can share it for diplomatic bonuses, keep it to yourself and research the nanotech for fat domestic bonuses or go full fuck you and get another much shorter project to figure out how to weaponize it for a huge buff to your ground invasions and maybe ship durability/auto repair as you repurpose the nanotech behind it to suit your ends.
>>
>>180137845
Alternatively, have this for a warp only map.
For hypermemers you can have the hyperlanes rearranging themselves.
For warp travel you can have fleets losing some ships. Add in some flavour text where everyone insists that the number of ships that came out was the number of ships that went in and that we never had any admiral named Rapalkin.
>>180136864
Introduce a "legendary leaders"mechanic. Powerful and game-changing leaders who pop up at random, and have random allegiances.
>>
Endless space: technically the small shots are more efficient with support modules, but you need to defender each one with armor and they get focused fired down. Carriers are super educate with the +damage mods too.

Honestly: there are reasons to have each ship size.

The Green Tide
Huge, rag-tag fleets of a race of extremely durable, extremely capable warriors arrive and start blasting anyone they encounter to bits

Random planets across the galaxy become infested with them without any indication; once they hit critical mass, huge waves of extremely large and strong armies of these brutes emerge from within the planet and begin slaughtering the armies guarding it. The armies grow vastly stronger with each enemy army slain, and regenerate health pretty much instantly. If they are repelled, the infestation timer will reset and they will eventually build up again. When they overrun the planet, they kill three-fourths of the population, forced labor purge the rest, and reproduce on the planet fast enough to fill it in a month. Any empty tiles will have inferior buildings automatically built on them as pops fill them up. They produce their rag-tag warships at an eighth of the price and time, and they have no fleet cap; their space stations have special modules, and are strong enough to repel fleets far above what normal stations would be able to. The planet will start mass producing ships and armies at a staggering rate, and their ships have psi jump drives.

Every single army and fleet they have will have a general or admiral; their leaders have no level cap, cannot die of old age, and gain experience at a greatly accelerated rate. Every planet they invade, even if the attack is repelled, will be infested much like the random planets from the beginning. The admiral of their initial doomstack will start at level 10, have two random great admiral traits, and is the brains behind the operation. Kill him, and the alien menace will balkanize, turn in on itself and, though it will still be an obstacle, will not be an immediate, game-ending threat. Infested planets will continue to spawn armies, but at a greatly lowered rate and at small enough volumes that a few defense armies would defend against it.

We have two Ascension based Crisis, so next up is clearly the biological ascension Crisis.
Options are galactic super plague that fucks shit up, species engineering gone wrong (or possibly right) creating super pops in everybody's empire (said pops eat every other pop on the planet and once they are more than half the population join/revive a single hive mind empire changing who controls the planet), terraforming+genetic engineering route which transforms a planet into a singular life form that can procreate with other planets...
>>
>>180160530
Not that guy and while ES2 doesn't have a true diplomatic victory you CAN win through diplomacy by just allying enough people that your alliances combined territory is enough for the territory victory.

Depends on what you want out of the genre. It's a good game, but it's quite unpolished in many areas such as balance and bugs.
>Could you recommend any guides that will get me started?
The OP has a number of useful resources. In addition I'm always happy to shill this channel containing a lot of decent guides to various areas of ES2 and quite a few other games in the genre. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa53kfJdPTHDtTPlY-l-SMhY9MOFznV-o

I am one of those fags that plays things for the storyline and this game seems to provide an interesting sci if political simulator platform with faction storylines and multiple endings. This is the main draw for me, the factions seem really interesting and imaginative.

That's a shame, because I really like Galactic Battlegrounds.

Or when EVERYONE gangs up on the Gungans.
>>
>>180176231
Pretty sure their lore talks about actually converting people and forcing them into the Cloth, so not very.

They're a proselytising religion devoted to an alien god (The Virtual Endless) - those have never been about racial purity and all about converting everyone to their brand of religious fuckery.

the vodyani basically don't consider themselves a species at this point - after all, they can't breed normally; rather, they consider the vodyani form to be an ascended state of being, a gift of the virtual that proves their superiority over the other inhabitants of the galaxy. as such, the incredibly rare few of their captives from raids and abductions that are deemed worthy enough are elevated to become vodyani - erasing all that was lesser about them (including their memories and a good chunk of their personality) and bolstering the ranks of the faithful

the starting vodyani hero, varb, dives further into this

by vodyani form i meant the cloth; in the quest you can see that they believe that those who are vodyani are meant to lead and rule the galaxy, while all other only exist to provide nourishment

obviously they believe the current vodyani form to be a temporary step on the road to proper virtualization, but the point still stands
>>
>>180177347
>obviously they believe the current vodyani form to be a temporary step on the road to proper virtualization
Not quite sure where you got that. Cloth is virtualisation. Even Virtual endless need a cloth, theirs simply tend to be more well crafted. And you improve your cloth trough out the quest line. Hell some Vodyani heroes are implied to be Virtual Endless who usurped their hero's cloth.

The audience is too small. Amplitude was never big on marketing, so even if they themselves made it it probably wouldn't get adopted by most people. You need to have a brand strenght to manufacture RPG. Tho it might be able to carry on the niche alone, few will invest in such a risque project.

Got a science victory on turn 63.

Was playing on Huge map with 12 AI. Used a custom faction with craver depletion, riftborn time powers and vodyani appearance.
Power leveled my hero and got crazy bonuses from their per hero level ability.

I also had enough influence that I controled half the galaxy and would convert the rest of it in about 10 turns. I never really upgraded the cities except to 2nd level, didn't build trade routes and just passed the last 5-10 turns learning all the techs. Was super fun to play though.

We've already got AI techy type shit that can start a crisis, so why not the weird biological research doing something similar? Xenomorph Armies come to mind as a good place for that type of shit to start. If you research too far into biological manipulation, make a lot of clones and mutants, etc, then you end up with some David Cronenberg type shit going on.

The Irassian Concordat precursor chain is about a galactic plague. I can't remember if they cured it, but it exists(ed) in lore and wiped them out so there's no reason it can't come back. Precursor chains could do with a rework honestly, they could be triggerable crises or mini-crises.

depends on your faction, as the wider factions you put out settlers pretty much as soon as your basic rotation and starting army is done, but with taller ones you can put it off longer
minors will attack your armies as soon as you walk out of your home region and they're of a somewhat comparable strength, and if you let them roam for too long they'll eventually pillage your regional buildings and siege your cities

Yeah it sucks but the problem with the way it was before is that it almost never shows up and when it does it's the most anemic crisis in the game. So I think they had to change to something more along the lines of the other crises to get it to work.

The AWOKEN robot empire that spawns from the Limbo quest is interesting but broken, the AI doesn't seem to understand how to run an empire entirely made up of droids. Namely building farms for one.

Also the Limbo quest should spawn 3 synths, not droids.

But I'd be in favor of any mini-crisis flavored around The Beast from Homeworld:Cataclysm. Maybe some kind of AI rebellion which takes over ships any ships with high tech computers like sentient or advanced. Fleet then starts building construction ships which builds more ships.

it depends on your race and the quality of nearby regions; boroughs add small amounts of unhappiness which can be nullified by levelling up your borough streets, while additional cities generate overexpansion unhappiness

if a nearby region has very good anomaly placement (especially if there are happiness-boosting anomalies present), several good minor faction villages, or lots of strategic/luxury resources, it would be worth expanding into it earlier.

i personally tend to create my first settler when my city has 5-7 population, though when playing as broken lords (or necrophages when i'm not close enough to rush someone) i create another at 3-5 population, and of course with allayi i ALWAYS wait until i have at least 90% happiness

Silly anon, heroes are not for damage dealing. I am serious.

You need heroes to:

Damage dealing is not part of their job description.

To kill, you need kill-rooms with damage modules.

the competitive scene from civ5 are very conservative and stuck to a specific mod, so the fact that going wide didn't fuck up your science made it unplayable for them

I think one of the main issues of singleplayer civ5 was the immortal troops vs the AI, you could easily avoid dying with your troops, retreating to heal and get promotions upon promotions while you destroyed your enemies units, I don't think civ6 really adressed that issue

Taking inspiration from fantasy fiction like Tolkien, Lets have one individual rise to power, an extremely powerful (and evil) psionic, a "Dark Lord" if you will. This individual uses his/her immense power to gain favor with the dark forces from the shroud. With these newfound pacts with the shrouds ruinous powers, he/she commands entire fleets and armies of Inter dimensional horrors and seeks to conquer and enslave the entire galaxy.

Think of the whole "evil dark lord" villain trope thats popular in fantasy fiction, but in space. It would make for an interesting narrative driven crises.

Now there are two ways this Crises can be defeated.

The first is the most obvious (but more difficult), just defeat the dark lord with pure brute force, send your fleets to fight through his conquered territories/minions and just bomb the shit out of his Dark Citadel.

Alternatively, have special narrative driven events where you have to gather "heroes" from your own empire and other empires, and basically have them go on sort of a narrative driven "journey" to defeat the Dark Lord themselves. Maybe you have to have your fleet escort them to their destination?

It's because we can clearly and easily explain why a gun is better than a spear because we have a thousand years of historical data on the evolution of warfare - or why a calculator is better than an abacus.

Harder to explain why a tachyon beam is better than pulsed lasers, or why sentient econometrics is better than the self-aware colony.

So you just get blandness where arbitrary numbers go up according to arbitrary technologies.
>>
>>180255398
The issue is the arbitrary number increases are too low. The only difference between a warrior and infantry in Civ 5 is that infantry has a different model and bigger strength, in Stellaris the power increases are so low it often works out better to just save on mineral costs and not upgrade.
>>
>>180255398

>pay 2.5 minerals and 2.5 power for 1.5 damage, x3
>or pay 5 minerals and 5 power for 1.55 damage

That's literally the only problem with it that they need to address. Just fix the retardedly high costs of an unnoticeably small damage increase to make them worth fitting.

That's because the game doesn't actually store the index number, it just lists species in order.

Cost efficiency starts losing relevance late game due to not only the fact that more cost ineffective/more powerful ship allow you to reinforce faster (time also counts) but also because range of fire becomes increasingly more important (if you engage sooner, the better you are).

Also, arc emitter > all for XL.
Normal lasers/disruptors > all for L.

>>
>>180266836
building tall isn't actually very ideal since the downsides to expansion only kick in at around ten planets, but if you want to then vodyani are probably the tallest there are due to the way you get arks

as for wonder victory, any of the generalists (horatio, unfallen) or the factions that produce good industry (riftborn, united empire, vodyani) are good at it
>>
Are we getting news for Civilization DLC soon or fucking what.
>>
>>180266890

Accuracy means nothing in the late game when you have so many accuracy and tracking bonuses from other things. Damage is all that matters, and when your weapons do less damage than another type, they are bad weapons.
>>
>>180267278
can the vodyani even build obelisks of all space-time? I dont have the tech in my tree so I assumed they disabled the victory condition for them because it was too easy to fly off with your ark or something.
>>
>>180266616
Does that mean it cant be completed if you are in a small game with just one or two other factions? Or does the quest scale with player number/galaxy size?
>>
>>180266890
>Damage modifiers. How do they work?
Lasers are trash because no matter how much you want it to, that extra 5% accuracy isn't going to make up for a 30% difference in armor penetration at L size especially since the only things you can reliably hit at L size are cruisers and battleships which come with high armor numbers, and the 50% bonus at M size.

Disruptors are uniformly awful because their targeting AI works differently to literally every other weapon in the game and prioritizes full hp shield targets making them split their fire across the entire enemy fleet never focus firing individual ships down unlike the much superior kinetic artillery or neutron torpedoes. Speaking of kinetic artillery, THEY are the weapon that beats everything else in L slots, precisely because they have massive range, shit on shields just as hard as your beloved disruptors and have the additional benefit of not becoming a complete waste of a module slot once the shields are down and you're hitting 90% damage reduction BS armor.

You know have no idea what you're talking about and it shows.

>>
>>180269219
I'd say so
>>
>>180269715

God you're a fucking moron.

Even with a 13% accuracy difference (Kinetic Artillery are actually 70%, nobody uses fucking large weapons until plasmas/KA), Large weapons should never even be targeting destroyers or corvettes, so of course they aren't good against them you retard. Even so, a 10% accuracy difference does not make up for the COLOSSAL damage difference. A large mass driver and a large disruptor both have 0 tracking, so guess what, they both suck dick at hitting smaller targets, yet the kinetic weapon still has better damage application because it doesn't have ANY damage maluses like your shitty lasers and disruptors do.

I would love to see you take on an AE, the Swarm, the Unbidden or another player with disruptors and lasers and see how quickly your fleets get deleted. Your tactics rely on shitty auto-generated AI ships from technologically impoverished empires.
>>
>>180269715
>mass drivers
Nobody ever mentioned those. We're talking about kinetic artillery, granted they only have 70% accuracy too.
>he still thinks accuracy matters
Accuracy doesn't mean a thing. Tracking is the important stat. A fully fit corvette has 80% evasion, and because of how the calculation works those 80% accuracy lasers and disruptors still only have a 5% chance to hit one courtesy of their 5% tracking. If you're relying on L slots to hit anything smaller than a cruiser you're doing it hilariously wrong, that is a task for massed M slots which only really works because cruisers can fit so fucking many of that slot or S slots, and when it comes to big ships shooting at each other that pathetic accuracy difference STILL doesn't outweigh the damage bonus difference of lasers to plasma or the frankly absurd damage that kinetic artillery puts out.

I will repeat myself. You have no idea what you're talking about.

I think I will have to make some tests, I've just been too lazy for it, I have an idea how to set them up, since stations are immobile I can put different weapons with different ranges and see how many days it takes for them to start firing in relation to eachother.

I really wanted to like Stellaris but for some reason it always feels like the AI cheats against me, like having less planets and station but still having a bigger fleet, Having fleets that always exceed the resources they have to support it, and other dumb shit like that. Every time I try and do anything Even with my fleet capped and such I need an overwhelming advantage in ships and even then it fucks me over. I wish their could be some strategy or tactic to it but it just feels like the AI cheats and i'm supposed to deal with it rather than the AI having the same limiters I do.

Like how am I supposed to make a confederation of cyberpunk esque worlds when every time I try and invade an enemy they always have a bigger fleet no matter what. One of the worst parts about it is the little info thing always says were equal too, Even when they are clearly better. Is their something I'm doing wrong? Or is their someway to fix this?
>>

>>180271458
>like having less planets and station but still having a bigger fleet,

There is no naval cap, you can have as many ships as you are willing to build. It is just an advisory cap.

>Having fleets that always exceed the resources they have to support it

Fleets do not cost resources other than minerals and energy, both of which are easy to obtain and most fleets until the very end of a game won't put you in the red.

>Is there something I'm doing wrong

Everything by the sounds of it. Bait them with stuff, don't attack them until it's on your terms. Don't go into their space, don't attack spaceports while their fleets are still roaming around.
>>
>>180271685

It increases upkeep by a % but it scales very strangely. For example, being 25% over your fleet cap doesn't always mean a 25% upkeep cost increase. I think. It's weird.
>>180271868

Transport ships make the best bait. AI will always charge for them because it thinks you are using them to move to a planet for invasion. Then you bring your fleet in when they get close enough so they can't run away in time. Generally the AI will not fight against a station since it's a "potentially dangerous fight" and not an "absolute curb stomping in my favor".
>>
>>180272012
I don't think the art of war only covered baiting and attacking them only when you have more numbers, was more complicated than that. Even then this isn't an issue of strategy but one of Mechanics of the game and what I can and can't do.

>>
>>180272353

I wouldn't say they refuse outright, but most of the time stations are bad enough to not be worth building and the AI might avoid them entirely anyway, so you are best off going for the sure-fire thing, which is solely transports.

Have to also pay attention to the AI's engine types. Warp are very easy to kill right now since the nerf, there's like a 2 month recharge time on it now so transport bait can be very slow, giving you time to use your transports as bait by kiting the enemy fleet around the galaxy while your fleet goes around fucking enemy spaceports and such up.

It only works in territory the enemy has vision over, so an ally of their's or their own space. Since mining stations no longer have weapons on them and you can probably see if a system you are jumping into has a defense station, there's no risk of losing transports.

That's it? Also any way besides watching them shoot to find out the AI weapon type? Like I said the quest is uncompletable due to a bug so I haven't checked. The devs said they know about it and have already fixed it in their internal build. However it's probably the same skill tree as the Virtual Endless hero in Craver faction quest line if you pick Religious options. Basically a great fleet commander.

The bigger thing about the quest is that it makes Endless hero available for any faction which completes the quest first and on top of that he starts at level 12 which is extremely good for a fresh new hero.

The thing you gotta understand about the endless. Is there wasn't just two factions, concrete and virtual. There were thousands upon thousands of them and concrete and virtual were just blanket categories that covered everyone, those that went the way of dust mind uploading and those that didn't. Within each category the endless were pretty diverse. Some virtuals just uploaded themselves into servers and did whatever a fully digital entity does, others had a link to the digital side of things for research and stuff but carried on inhabiting bodies of dust to socialize and be intimate like they had done previously, and amongst those were even more splits, with the hedonists sure but also people who viewed their newfound immortality as a great power great responsibility thing.

The endless were a diverse bunch is what I'm saying.

There are multiple levels of tutorial. From the sound of it you disabled all of them. You can either start game in the beginner mode or just go to menu and set tutorial to whatever level you fancy.

It relally doesn't matter, anon. You can level heroes in a few turns by assigning them to high industry planets. I once got some 10 odd levels for completing a wonder.with a low level hero by asigning him just before it finished construction.

You might have a very minor case of serious and debilitating retardation. It's OK. Plenty of people live fulfilling lives with your condition. Sometimes we even elect people like to you to political office.

Go to the main menu, put your mouse over new game, then wait for the "tutorial" option to pop up in the middle-ish of the screen. Click that.

Both the Virtuals and Concretes were kind of massive pricks. Former created the Cravers as war machines against Concretes and the latter created Hissho for gladiator matches and they're also responsible for Auriga. On the other hand they're all still individuals so I bet there's also bound to be guys who aren't complete assholes. They're also supposedly weaker than in their prime.

Move the Ark. The Ark cannot be taken, it has to be destroyed. There should be a thing in the system overview called "System Control: x%" or something, if you hit 0% the other player takes over. Moving an Ark takes all populations and buildings with it.

You can also simply buyout planets with a chunk of influence assuming they're inside your sphere. The % conversion just makes the buyout cheaper every turn until it's practically free. Only if you have the last Religious law active does the conversion apply automatically at full.

Only systems abstained from influence conversion are Unfallen owned systems (completely immune) and those that have changed ownership recently (war or conversion) and are going through mutiny. In one game I tried sniping capitals instead of outright destroying everyone and the Horatio AI bought back their capital the moment it was fully under my control since their other neighboring systems created enough influence to encompass it entirely.

UE is pretty simple, just go the usual P>D>S>F research order and build off influence once you got your systems on their feet.

Customs always depend on how you build them.
>>
>>180291829
>How do you best play the empire?
Empire is very by the book all rounder. You simply want to explore, expand and exploit as much as possible developing industry and influence as priorities as to accelerate your development in other areas. The only notable thing as far as empire priorities compared to "normal" is that due to the fact that you generate a lot of free inflence you shuould try it to spend it in early game to assimilate minor factions ASAP.

>How do you best play a custom built empire?
I would advise against custom nations in ES2. They are neither balanced nor well structured. Especially if you are new.
>>
>>180292362
>P>D>S>F
I disagree with this strongly. I think Dust is next to useless as empire and you should not bother with it. Influence replaces dust as second priority and puts it at the very buttom of the chain. The only thing you need dust as imperials is maintanence/upgrades and that can be gotten extrimely easily trough just a couple of starter techs.

The only exception to this are trade routes, because they are broken OP.

Nothing wrong with revising their prices.
Just angry poorfags who are too chicken to pirate.

Plenty of things you can be angry with paradox instead, like their dlc greed.
>>
>>180322675
Of course if you are not in the affected countries list you will not give a fuck, remember not everyone makes the same amount of money as a first world country.
But yeah I don't get why everyone is so mad when they can pirate every single tittle of paradox and still play online

And they still pay way less than first world countries. Even after their prices were increased.

Problem is that getting a game like eu4 with all the dlc is expensive for people in first world countries. Even during sales it's the price of several new AAA titles. Regardless of prices rightfully getting adjusted based on changes in the economy, inflation and purchasing power.

>when they can pirate every single tittle of paradox and still play online
Yeah that in my eu4 mp games only the host has the essential dlc, I have a legit vanilla version and it works fine, so even if you were religious like legit you could get away with just vanilla in online, as long as the host has some dlc.
