>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Age of Decadence, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

I think I saw it on GoG. I'll take it.

>>
>>180036934
Mental Breakdown breaks line of sight, which means if there is only one enemy and you cast it on him, you can exit combat immediately. But if you don't, combat will still automatically end after the second turn. Which means your combat cooldown and Mental Breakdown both end at the exact same moment. It's a very easy mistake to forget about this in the heat of the moment.
>>
>>180036934
Any incapacitation effect that also makes the enemy lose sight of you ends combat.

That's because you are technically not "in combat" if there is no enemies who see you.

Although I'm fairly certain I have done this before, I decided to retrace the steps of our only person who has reported a mutant sighting, and 100%'d everything that can be 100%'d before venturing into the depot. To the shock of absolutely no one it didn't result in anything unusual, but at least we can cross some options off the list.

I'm leaning more and more towards random encounter. Was there anything on the guy's screenshot that could be any kind of help? Was he playing with classic exp? Unlike him after doing everything I was still only level 10.

Lack of an ending bothered me too so I made my own headcanon.
Fran is dead the whole time. From the start of the game, Fran is possessed by the demon and kills her parents. After she is killed by the doctor, she is sent back to the human world as a "spirit" or someone who can travel through realities. The demon realizes that he fucked up and tries to kill her but she escapes to the tree-reality. Eventually she travels to meet the Mother where it tries to show her how she died to trap her in despair, but then Mr. Skeleton and tree-dragon save her and kitty.
Also, I think some of this was explained in the journals
The dark creatures (Kamalas?) are humans that have fallen into despair. The light creatures are the dark creatures who have been "saved" somehow. Fran meets with tons of other types of spirits.

There's no plot per se. Everything depends on what path you take, what guild you choose, etc.

> People are fighting for dominance
Pretty much. That and some lovecraftian horrors shenanigans in the background.

>are you necessarily fucked up the moment you kill Paullus?
A little. Antidas, Gaelius and Meru were the 3 lords of the last 3 noble Houses.

House Daratan was already dying and stopped existing the moment I put a bolt through the throat of Antidas, his city taken over by Imperial Guard.

House Aurelian ruled by Gaelius stopped existing (literally) once I blew up the entire city.

House Crassus stopped existing the moment I put a bolt through the throat of Meru possessed by a lovecraftian horror, his city also taken over by Imperial Guard.

That leaves us with Paullus, the supreme leader of the Imperial Guard in control of the last 2 major cities. The thing is I awakened a lovecraftian horror/God that wanted to rule the world through a human proxy and Paullus was the only candidate. He refused so the God made me kill him.

Add the fact that the entire Imperial Guard clashed with the mindfucked army of the God and that leaves the world in ruins. The only things left are the God with no proxy to rule through and barely any humans left alive.

I basically made the world as shitty as I possibly could and died in the process.

Vulture is just a GUI for Nethack, quite ugly to be honest

It's not a puzzle game or a killing game, it's a rogue-like. I guess you could call it a killing game because you kill enemies in it, but you do the same in most other games so it's not a very good description.

>>180103396

>>
>>180104519
You're trying so hard
>>
>>180103539
I guess? The primary mechanics in this game is still killing enemies.

There's just a lot of diversity in terms of effects and actions you can take outside of combat, though.

Crawl has less depth but also less grind and less stupid deaths. Also Crawl has a lot of quality-of-life stuff like macro support and autoexplore.

For every valid point he makes (and he does make a few) there is a dozen of invalid ones or straight up lies/baseless accusations. Have you seen his posts on rpg codex?

No, I'm dragging in his opinions on the game posted elsewhere. This is very related.

By the way, his steam review has only a few valid points. The vast majority of it is either wrong or deranged.
>>
>>180109241
>his steam review has only a few valid points
Points that are never adressed because you're all too busy trying to prove that he's a horrible person because if he's a horrible person, then there's no need to adress the grind or the RNG, right?
>>
>>180109353
>Points that are never adressed
They were adressed on the original forums.

The thing is Celerity doesn't care about his feedback being taken into consideration, he demands the game to be just how he wants it to be and gets salty when confronted with reality.

Considering you said "Points that are never adressed", this is a pretty good defense.

No, multiple people managed to finish the game without deaths, excluding the 2 near-mandatory ones at the end.

But keep trying to stack bleeds on undead/bringing a Leper to the Hag/not retreating after hero gets killed and then screaming about RNG. Bet you think Texas Holdem is gambling, too.

It's hard to adress something directly when all you do is throw vague stuff like "RNG" and don't know a thing about the game as demonstrated by not knowing what the Radiant Mode is.

How about you educate yourself first, then point an exact issue to be adressed?

You don't win/lose games in Texas Holdem. The concept of losing/winning a single game is completly inapplicable. It's a long term game.

You can win a tournament, which boils down to earing all the chips that are evenly distributed between thousands of players. If it was pure gambling then winners would be purely random each year as well, yet it's always a small group of professionals who make it to the final table, often the same people each year.

>How can you make a game that you don't win or lose?
The entire point of Texas Holdem is to make decisions that have positive expected value.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expected_value

Example: Imagine a coin flip. If it's heads, you get $5. I it's tails, I get $5.

Here it's quite obvious that none of us is going to make any profit or lose anything on average in the long run. You have 50% chance of winning $5 and 50% chance of losing $5, making the Expected Value equals 0.

Another coin flip: if it's heads, you get $10. If it's tails, I get $5. Now you would have to be stupid to refuse to play, wouldn't you? The EV here is positive (5) for you and negative (-5) for me. You win $5 on average while I lose $5 on average.

As such, the right decision for you is to play while the right decision for me is not to play. Let's assume we played 10 games. You had incredibly bad luck and lost all 10 games.

Does that mean you "lost" and I "won"? Maybe in short term. But this is a long term game. Would you agree to another 100 coin flips, (assuming you really just had back luck and the coin is not rigged)? I would if I were you.

Texas Holdem operates on the same principle but with other factors involved. 2-7 is the weakest hand in the game, therefore it's usually the best decision to fold it immediately. Two As on the other hand is the best hand so you want to bet as much as possible before other cards show up.

2 A's can lose while 2-7 can win. This is not important. The important thing is if the decision had positive EV. Play enough games and you will come out on top.

This is how professionals win tournaments, they know when to bet and when to fold. It's not just bluffs, as a matter of fact bluffs are a rarely used trick that only works on other professionals who know the game well. You can't fool a fool.

The only way to "lose" is to make decisions with negative EV and running out of money, or making such a huge bets that you are pray to short-term luck.

I have tried to catch up with your escapades, but I might have missed a few posts. How did you even get your AG reputation that low? What triggers that game over? Have you managed to beat that body count record in the end? Or have you just settled for a more symbolic one?

Either way, well done. But wasn't killing all three gods the plan?
>>
I know it's not indie but it might be slightly obscure (because it's not very good), but I've booted up Viking: Battle for Asguard

I really want to enjoy the game, it has a comfy concept, but it controls like ass and one of the most broken, half-assed ports I've seen. I'll probably have to drop it.
>>
>>180118069
I don't have ammo issues on most runs, but when I do they're generally only on the last stage. I feel like a guaranteed ammo shrine on Bullet Hell would be a better solution.
I think the bigger problem is that you're stuck using your starter pistol for the first 5-10 minutes of each run, easily longer with bad drops or if you're going for the oubliette. Giving the player a mediocre gun for free early on or adding an Eden-type character or gamemode could be possible solutions.
>>
>>180119130
I remember that game. Yeah, I couldn't make it very far before I got bored.
>>
>>180119073
> How did you even get your AG reputation that low?
Betrayed them in Teron. Later killed Hanza in IG questline in Madoraan. That and 4 CHA. Betrayal is really the only thing that matters, makes you reputaion and loyalty go ridiculously low.

>What triggers that game over?
Kill Antidas
Kill Gaelius
Kill Meru
Wake Agathoth, accept his offer

> Have you managed to beat that body count record in the end?
Nope.

I wanted to at start, but later realized I just to want to be as much of a dick as possible. Nuking Madoraan was a must and that made me miss quite a bit of kills (Arena, Bassar thugs, Harran Pass battle, etc.) so I couldn't do both. I'm happy with the result though.

>Either way, well done. But wasn't killing all three gods the plan?
It was the plan when I stil lwanted to beat the bodycount record, but you can't kill the Abyss demi-god if you want to nuke the city and you gotta join Agathoth to get that ending. Killed Balzaar though.
>>
>>180119284
The real fuckup is not giving every character (except maybe Pilot) a starting weapon that consumes ammo, while leaving pistol as only a last resort.

They also should have made the ammo drop algorithm, function specifically based on ammo consumption, with a penalty for missing.
>>
>>180118069
>>180119284
I haven't played it for too long but I think the game just needs less random chest system, if I recall correctly the game keeps spawning blue chests even on floor 5, while red and black chests are just very rare, and if you get one early, you may or may not run out of ammo for the gun before getting to floors 4/5. Also maybe remove brown chests from the game completely and give away D-rated guns on the first floor or something.
>>
>>180120129
That's actually how it was originally, if you look at some of the really early footage of the game. Even the Pilot's starting weapon was pretty decent. No clue why it was changed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjtMUFdWZ8A

A penalty for missing seems annoying, especially with shotguns/scattershot and the like. I'd rather ammo drops just be made more consistent, you shouldn't be able to go through an entire floor without getting at least one. Making ammo guaranteed in the shop and lowering its price slightly would help as well.
>>
>>180118069
That just pushes the problem to the next step: Good guns is so rare, that it becomes the next complaint.
It guns became good, it wouldn't change that the enemies and shooting mechanic is horrible.

Ammo system essentially allows things with 10-15 realistic shots to exist. Which is a good thing. Just like how Nuclear Throne has Super weapons which can't really conserve ammo.
>>
>>180119851
Interesting. Didn't know it was possible to just walk into the guild building and attack them after betrayal. Anticlimactic death screen aside, that's really cool.

>game over
Oh, I think I get it. Paullus accepts Agathoth's offer because answering to a god is better than answering to a politician. But if you remove all three lords from the picture, he has a shot at securing top position for himself, and no longer wants to be someone else's puppet. Is this it? Fucking sweet.

What happens with the mad Abyss god after you release it? Despite all the chaos described, it's strangely missing from that ending sequence.

Speaking of chaos, I have a lore question. Is there any route, ending, side area or anything where you actually get to meet a Quantari? Why have they left after the war? Their scheme was pretty successful all things considered, so why retreat back to their homeland?

He doesn't answet to on one man. All lords are dead, he's Dictator Paulus now, he runs the entire world (or what's left of it considering Madoraan is gone). It's quite in character for him to try his best to keep that position.

>What happens with the mad Abyss god after you release it? Despite all the chaos described, it's strangely missing from that ending sequence.
I will post the ending screen. Once you wake him up he finds the thoughts of all people in the city so annoying he just wishes them out of existance. Same happens to everyone who gets near the ruins of the city. He just keeps napping there I guess.

>Speaking of chaos, I have a lore question. Is there any route, ending, side area or anything where you actually get to meet a Quantari?
No. You can find a painting that shows both Quantari and the Magi together and come to the conclusion that they had to be working together but that's it. Also the notes in Al-Akia. They are black if you are wondering.

>Why have they left after the war? Their scheme was pretty successful all things considered, so why retreat back to their homeland?
I don't think they just left. They arrived via fleet and it was most likely destroyed in the war. Logs found on Pax Imperium suggest that it nuked quite a bit of Quantari ships.

Vince must like Paullus, because I don't think anyone else gets as many endings in the decent to good range as him. Teaming up with House Aurelian is good, becoming dictator is really good, his "you had me at 'raise an army'" reaction to Agathoth's offer in the ending where he accepts it is good. If your worst personal ending is getting a sword stuck in your back on the battlefield, you are a natural winner by Age of Decadence standards.

>>180144080

>>
>>180145215
>They have some blatant optimization issues
The reality is literally the polar opposite, it is very well optimized. It's your usual A* with some clever performance optimization tricks.

You have to understand that pathfinding for a game like that is expensive and sacrificing edge case accuracy is to be expected because it can yield huge performance gains. All these factors are perfectly manageable in RW/DF. In your case the closer wood pile was probably inaccessible at the moment the pathfinder made the calculation. or the wood was already assigned to someone else.
>>
>>180146596
A simple option to forbid non-stockpiled items for anything other than hauling would do a lot of good. It's not an issue of pathfinding so much as the game prioritizing inefficient tasks unless you manually set them to haul.
>>
>>180147426
>It's not an issue of pathfinding
Mostly true, but the pathfinder does not guarantee optimal paths and has issues with certain edge cases. It's also very exploitable for enemy pathfinding, but so is every other game where you get to alter the map.

>the game prioritizing inefficient tasks
False. Choosing an inefficient task as the last resort rather than doing nothing is not a prioritization issue. Now this is the point where I should start autistically screeching "git gud", because honestly that's all there is to this: Learning the game's systems and adapting to them. That is normal gameplay and there is nothing inherently wrong with the relevant system implementations.

That's not even the best part. The best part is +15 ranged from Fulvio. It's such a huge fucking bonus it's basically mandatory for ranged combat builds.

You will also get the 10 dodge/10 melee training from practicing for 3 days after killing Antidas. 15 SPs worth of crafting in Madoraan. Make it to Caer-Tor and you will get another +10 in ranged and +5 dodge. It's a really good path if you want to be the best you can be.

aite. so for leveling up this new party, is it best to do short/medium/long dungeons? are they any easier/harder or any different, besides the length?
>>
>>180162080
If this is your first time playing the game, you should stick to doing short dungeons for now so you can familiarize yourself with the mechanics and monsters.

You should avoid doing long dungeons, since you only have limited inventory, and it's usually filled by the the end of a medium dungeon.
>>
>>180162080
enemies are the same, they're just longer. there's higher difficulties, but you'll meet those later
longer means that you'll need to either take less damage or bring more sustain(both health and stress), but camping abilities help with that
You shouldn't have any real trouble handling a medium
>>
>>180162080
It depends. Short tend to be easiest but least profitable. Medium/!Long tend to be harder but you will earn more money/deeds per run and you can camp to restore health/stress and use camping skillls. Good camping skill selection can make long dungeon even easier than short in some cases.

Exploring 90% of the rooms is by far the easiest and most relible mission type. Clearing all rooms with fights in it is more RNG-dependant. Collecting things/ activating shrines is the worst as it takes up valueble inventory slots.
>>
>>180141358
>even though the game advises against hybrid it appeals to me so I split between my diplomacy and combat
Praetors are the best for that but you are going to struggle if its your first run. If you insist then focus on persuasion and streetwise (or persuasion and etiqutte), one weapon skill, one defensive skill (block or dodge) and some points in critical strike. You were warned.

>everything going pretty well, almost die to a gang of hobos

Wanna know why? Because while it was in Early Access, there was a bug that kept the game opened even after you quit it. You had to pull a Ctrl+Alt+Suppr to close it completely.
The faggot in charge of that shitty game later used the playtime as an excuse that "our game is great, since people play it", never adressing that oh so convenient bug.

You should have an easy time killing him wihle he focuses on Neleos. Even if you lack the damage the poison should eat his HP away pretty quickly.

I see you are using daggers. In that case you should use attacks that have the highest chance to bypass his armor and/or apply bleeding. You could also try critting his arms to make him miss all the time.

You either focus on daggers or crossbow. Don't tell me you are spreading your points in both.

>on the off chance i crit his arms he hits us all anyway
You gotta crit his arms a few times to make his hit chance plummet. If you can't do that it's better to focus on damage.

>poison barely damages him if at all
Must be weak poison then.

Yuo could also throw a bola to the head at the start of the turn. This denies him his next turn and lowers his defense by 100, effectively making all attacks guarnteed to hit for one turn. Perfect opportunity to use arterial strikes.

With 113 archery and a recurved scythian I can get through his armor even with bronze armor piercing ammo.

With 82 crossbow and a hand crossbow I can still penetrate his armor enough to apply the poison, with 83 and a regular two handed crossbow you should even be able to deal some damage.

With 72 dagger and a balanced serrated iron jambia I had to use a whetstone and attack constantly with power attacks to break through, but that still happened pretty rarely. But I blame my low skill.

If you have a bomb, from the starting position you can throw it with 100% accuracy in a way that will hit both targets. With some luck it can even knock them down.
>>
>>180181768
Well I'm happy for you
And I do use the bomb correctly, it's in the picture
I instantly kill the one guy but the other centurion is immortal and does 30 damage a turn
also he blocked my bola
I don't know what you mean by balanced serrated iron jambia
>>
>>180181768
>attack constantly with power attacks to break through
I didn't play much with daggers lately but wouldn't aimed torso be better?

It basically works the same way as power attacks but daggers passive gives huge CS bonus on aimed attacks. It also decreases DT by 2 on crits so you could eat his DT away. Acid could be very useful as well.
>>
>>180181768
Disregard that, I suck cocks. The 83 is your dagger skill.

Eh. Bolas and bombs then. Can you craft poison vials?
>>
>>180182139
>Can you craft poison vials?
Yeah but only the basic ones that don't do damage to him
One of my 72% hit chance bolas finally got him and I won
still feels like that was a dumb fight

>>

Well you only had 5 in daggers and 4 in dodge by the end of Teron. That's pretty low for a combat build.

Not to mention the centurion goes for Neleos first.
>>
>>180182080
That's not a bomb, what you used is liquid fire. They are useful, but they don't deal much damage. Black powder bombs are your damage dealers.

>I don't know what you mean by balanced serrated iron jambia
Just the type of dagger I had on me. An iron jambia with the balanced and serrated edge upgrades.

>>180182090
Yeah, I guess you are right. On normal attack it doesn't make any difference since high damage vs DR bypass here comes out the same, but torso gives better CS effects. But I was just trying to see if I could even get through his armor with the skill and weapon I had, so I didn't care much about killing him.
>>
>>180182506
Ezra does. Unless his command was "don't drown" instead of "swim".

can't improve anything else because the other quests are fucking impossible before that one
>infiltrate palace

ok lets do the raider quest

ok lets do the mine quest

>fail persuasion check
ok lets sneak in like an assassin
>dude you also need lockpicking lmao
>wtf why are your combat stats low

what a waste of money
>>
>>180183249
>ok lets do the raider quest>not high enough persuasion and can't take on 7 bandits

You could just report back to Dellar and tell him that there is absolutely no way you can kill them.
>>
>>180183249
>infiltrate palace
That's optional. Medicore sneak, impersonate, critcal strike and decent bodycount are enough. But it's still something only a handful of builds will be able to pull off.

There's plenty of people to kill in the town to get a good body count.

>can't take on 7 bandits
You don't need to if you can't. You have 8 PER, you could tell Dellar to send his people and give him info about bandits.

Or you could kill their leader on the spot with critical strike and intimidate the others with high body count. Or simply kill them since they are all rather weak once the leader is dead.

>ok lets sneak in like an assassin
>dude you also need lockpicking lmao
Well what did you expect? "Sneaking in like an assassin" implies you want to kill them, not open chests.

You could do a number of things here. You could find out who is supplying the camp and make him spike the wine with poison to make them significantly weaker. Hell you could even ask Colton to give you a decent poison since you are an assassin.

After that you could also kill the centurion on the spot with critical strike.

>game doesn't feel fun to play at all
It sounds to me like you are simply trying to be a jack of all trades and do everything. That's not possible. If you want to be good at combat, focus on combat.

I am playing FlatOut 2 since I never got to play it back in the day but always wanted to. It's fun but I've yet to figure out how controls work-- I use a controller to drive but to navigate menus you have to use keyboard mostly.

Styg was in a strangely chatty mood today. So what we learned from his bulk answers is that
>the expansion won't have more sophisticated group fights
>the expansion won't be making changes to super steel production
>it doesn't seem like the expansion will add more Arena fights

The last one is a bit of a bummer. I was looking forward to some shit like JKK starting an Aquarena now with 100% more jet skis.

I'm still salty. But I guess sledgehammer users are even more salty.

>>180188840
If I were a sledgehammer user I would love the opportunity to use a fucking tank of a jet ski. Tank and hit hard is what a sledge build lives for, no?
>>
>>180189047
Snipers at least can shoot at jet skis from the ground because they have long range. Sledges will be pretty much forced to use other melee weapons and suffer penalties.

>There's plenty of people to kill in the town to get a good body count.
not sure who in town you can kill but apparently I was just one short. Ended up fighting that centurion in the guard tower killing him with two bolas, then passed the body count check.
>intimidate the others with high body count
Didn't know I could intimidate with body count after critical striking so I didn't even try, assumed you would have to fight all of them.
>You could find out who is supplying the camp and make him spike the wine with poison to make them significantly weaker
Yeah that ended up working
>It sounds to me like you are simply trying to be a jack of all trades and do everything.
It's just weird. I understand that you're not supposed to spread your points thin, the game warns you multiple times about this. Failing dialogue checks and being shit at combat when I wasn't trying to spread thin felt wrong though. I ended up reloading to a much earlier save and I think I did everything alright this time. Just got to the main city and did a few arena fights.
>>
>>180190626
That doesn't look too bad, but you have a lot of unspent points.

If you want to save points, alchemy 4 is a really sweet spot to stop at. More alchemy is good too if you are able to afford it, but 4 gives you the most bang for your buck.

Yeah. It replace a lot of stuff, change the plans around, and add the possibility to move from one island to another.

I'd say go for it if you liked Don't Starve.

>>
>>180189220
Yeah, but I mean, a sledge could build a slow armored jet ski with heavy weaponry. Their playstyle won't change that much in this regard, and they can still rely on their defensive feats. I mean, why would you want water combat to work exactly the same way as ground combat? The fun comes from trying something new. I can't wait to see all the different jet ski parts.
>>
>>180199512
>I mean, why would you want water combat to work exactly the same way as ground combat?
Because it will work exactly the same for all other weapons?

I would be fine if all 2-handed weapons were unusable on jet skis. This would actually be a major buff for pistols for example. But it's only sniper rifles and sledges that are unusuable.
>>
>>180156183
I'll wait for a bit until someone makes a build guide, I'm always scared of fucking it up and hitting a roadblock 30 hours in or so.
