>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Age of Decadence, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

Should have just become his praetor and serve him directly as nobility instead of being some literally who.

You don't even need to betray boatmen to do that, if you asked to serve him he would arrange everything with Darista.

That said, guild ending depend on your reputation with the guild. The higher your reputation the better you end up, so if you ended up as a low-ranking nobody you just weren't working hard enough.
>>
>>179549293
Oh, so it's a bit like Mount and Blade, you get different endings depending from your situation?
>>
>>179549471
The game simply checks your repuation and gives you a different ending depending on how high it is. I had 18 House Aurelian repuation at the end of the game and got the consul ending, as far as I know low repuation would make you end up as some low-raking official in an unimportant remote shithole.

Of course it's also important who you sided with, who you betrayed and such, but generally reputation improves your situation.

What's wrong with steam?
>>
>>179556857
Well, nothing, just buying game on sale and through Steam will get devs only a relatively small cut of the expected full price
But I think it's not really worth arguing whenever it's bad
>>
>>179556857
Almost a monopole.
>>
>>179556857
I think his point is:
You insinuate that buying games on sale, on steam is supporting the game industry.
But steam takes a large cut of the price. Buying on sale means you're not willing to spend proportionate amount of money for the work put into the games.
So really, all you're doing is saving money for yourself. If you really did care about supporting the game industry, you would buy the games you want for RRP, from any platform (rather than ONLY steam).
>>
>>179557209
To be fair, devs still get their cut and it's not like they didn't want to sell the game for less in the first place
It's a silly argument because you can also add
>buying games at regional RRP instead of the most expensive one
>not buying collector's edition
>not just donating money to the devs
etc.
>>
>>179557642
That's why it's a case by case basis.
In general terms, waiting for a sale on a specific delivery platform while virtue signalling about supporting devs is just hypocritical.
>>
>>179556857
Getting your games from steam sales gives the least possible support to the industry.

>>179557642
>it's not like they didn't want to sell the game for less in the first place
You're an idiot. They don't want that, but ultimately the unit price doesn't matter. What matters to the (indie) developer is a steady stream of income, and discount prices are required to rekindle interest once your game isn't selling enough at full price.

I want to believe freeware supported by direct donations is the best and most ethical business model for long-term game development, but so far very few (Toady with DF for example) have pulled it off successfully.
>>
>>179558083
Wow, rude

I'm sorry, but no one puts a gun to the developer's head when they put the game on sale. Just as you've said, it's a marketing move to sell more copies, albeit devs have to pay for it by selling the game at lower price. If they didn't want to do that, they wouldn't put it on sale. It's their initiative. Fuck off.
>>
>>179558083
>Getting your games from steam sales gives the least possible support to the industry.
Counterpoint: The industry is thriving as fuck with Steam flooded with a metric shitton of terrible games reminiscent of the early 80s and with a few minor exceptions almost every single AAA developer deserves to get fucked in the ass out of every nickel for shitty business practices and games that put graphics before gameplay despite having budgets smaller than the GDP of some small countries.

Devs never want to sell games for less if they can get the same amount of sales for more. It just makes them less money, which pays their wages for less time, meaning they have less to invest to making future games.

>buying games at regional RRP instead of the most expensive one
>not buying collector's edition
>not just donating money to the devs
What is silly about those arguments? Buying games for more or donating directly OBJECTIVELY supports the industry, via greater profit, more than buying them for less. Buying games from other outlets than Steam is arguably the same, depending on how much you believe Steam actually contributes to the industry. The only way to support as much at low price as you can at high price is to buy multiple copies and give them to people that never would have bought the game in the first place (or just keep them).

>>
>>179560547
Sales are starting to do more damage than they fix. People just price shit higher in anticipation for steam sales, and take longer to do permanent price reductions. Furthermore, salesfags will buy a big pile of shit games at a big discount and never throw another penny at the developer if they get an actually good one. This directly emphasizes quantity over quality mindset, and is arguably directly responsible for the enormous amounts of shovelware garbage being dumped onto steam.

Pirating 10 games and then buying the good one for $50 is much, much more beneficial to the industry than buying those same 10 games for $5 each.

>>179562176
I think devs should start putting up obligatory demos again, it was a norm 15-20 years ago.

To a degree I avoid buying games at full price unless I'm really sold on them, and yes I used to* grab a lot of shit on sale and often even forget about it, because out of a bunch of shit I get on sale I usually would never buy otherwise if I knew that the game is mediocre. I know Steam allows hassle-free refunds now but I just can't get used to it.

*I actually kinda stopped buying games on sale a year ago or so, because I just ended up with a lot of games I don't want to play, and buying games at full price makes me think twice before buying them

But seriously, people should start putting up demos, no demos is counter-consumer behavior, but demos are considered harmful for sales so that'll probably never happen.

I DID offer my services to Gaelius, but he waved me off saying that his ex-fuckbuddy needs me more. Must be another reputation check then.

I guess Gaelius didn't take the mining outpost incident too well
And okay, I suppose it's not impossible that the Boatmen never completely got over me killing their assassin in the first fight.

But I gave Gaelius a fucking airship, that surely counts for something? And my performance as a Boatman was nothing short of exemplary. Everything recovered, everyone saved, and my loyalty never wavered. Maybe I made some mistakes early on, but then who doesn't? How about we let bygones be bygones, eh?

I mean, Varro's ending is not that bad, but I hated having to kill Hamza. Poor guy wasn't even prepared for a fight, he wasn't a force of destruction in that fight like he was during the Imperial Guard questline.

Never mind. I have unleashed my revenge on them.

I may have become a slave, but I am a slave to a god. The rest of the world? They were not so fortunate.
>>
>>179539576
Boatmen are an interesting and thematically consistent take on an openly tolerated assassin guild in that they're basically just disposable pawns for the local lords. In Teron you're just taking care of problems for the Commercium, and then the guild gets burned down when they fuck with someone who intends to replace the local power. In Maadoran you're Gaelius' personal bitch force or can betray them for another usurper. When the guild doesn't want to play ball they end up like they did in Ganezzar.

While it is interesting and different, however, it is pretty fucking unsatisfying to actually be a boatman as a result.

>>179573303

Nobody said there was anything wrong with buying games on sale.
The issue is claiming that you are supporting devs by only waiting to buy their game on sale, on one specific platform.
Buying their game so you can play it, regardless of where and how much = supporting devs.
Waiting for a sale on steam =/= supporting devs. That is supporting your wallet.

I suppose if it's written in RPG maker and it doesn't provide targets other than PC, dev should just move all the assets and re-implement all the logic on other engine.

That's probably a lot of work, but also should be doable, I think at least Hotline Miami did something like that. But then again, Hotline Miami probably made a lot of money.

This boss fight is pretty cool, since you have the option of focusing on the minion or the joy mutant with pros and cons of each. But whichever you do first, I think Sports King is best saved for last. If you kill the joy mutant first, the minion fucks off without putting up a fight though.

>I DID offer my services to Gaelius, but he waved me off saying that his ex-fuckbuddy needs me more. Must be another reputation check then.
>I guess Gaelius didn't take the mining outpost incident too well
That must be it. Mercenaries start with 1 House Aurelian reputation. You lose 1 for killing the aurelian spies and 4 (I think) for slaughtering the outpost, so that would put you at -4. No wonder he didn't accept.

I started as loremaster with 3 House Aurelian reputation, lost 1 by killing the spies and ignored the outpost. He accepted me as his liegeman so 2 is enough.

After one quest where I got another 1 point of reputation I passed a check to be accepted as a praetor, I don't think that 1 point was necessary though.

>And okay, I suppose it's not impossible that the Boatmen never completely got over me killing their assassin in the first fight.
You don't lose any reputation for killing the assassin as a mercenary, but mercenaries start with 0 boatmen repuation to begin with. Assassins on the other hand start with 3.

>But I gave Gaelius a fucking airship, that surely counts for something?
It would if you were working for him directly. But you were working for Darista so she doesn't give a fuck.

>Everything recovered, everyone saved, and my loyalty never wavered. Maybe I made some mistakes early on, but then who doesn't? How about we let bygones be bygones, eh?

There is more than a dozen of [body count] checks where you intimidate people into doing what you want based on how many people you killed. Some are guild-specific, like intimidating the merchant lady to shut the fuck up and keep quiet during the thieves quest to steal the jar from Strabos.

Playing a Boatman was certainly interesting. No aspirations, very little political maneuvering. Considering the factions origins it is surprising that they are the only faction (from what I can tell based on two playthroughs) who don't really want anything at all. Everyone in the guild is chill as fuck, and as long as the contracts keep coming life is good. You even get dialog options that are basically "status quo is best, leave me alone".

Varro was like the only one with some ambition, but not even he was going to lift a finger until his guild got torched down and he was left alone.

>>179624416
Well, there are the body count checks, and also some people recognizing you if you become the Arena champion, like the soldiers in Ganezzar or the raider leader at the Mountain Monastery. Also the Imperial Guard questline is almost entirely about surviving very bad odds, and you get complimented for it.

But it's a shame there isn't any body count check for absurdly high numbers.

>>179624416
Yeah, going with the Assassin background would have worked better. Originally I thought I'd just check out the first few quests in Teron and call it a day, so I wasn't too fussy about such details. How I ended up doing a full playthrough I'm not even sure.

Not that I have a problem with it, the difference between my two runs was very interesting. As an Imperial Guard you are constantly shat on by your superiors, but at the end of the day if you serve well you can earn their respect by the end. The Boatmen on the other hand have a sense of some kind of camaraderie from the start, they are usually friendly, appreciate good work, and then kick you in the balls with that ending. Too bad I don't have the patience to do another assassin run, I might have to check some youtube videos to see if better reputation would have got me a better ending.

Speaking of checks, what the crap is intimidate? That's not a skill, stat, or reputation I know of.

It sure is. I don't know if there are other ways, but I got the option when I sided with Varro and won the Ganezzar siege for Meru.

While I was doing my thing in the Temple, Miltiades worked his way into Meru's court. So when I returned to pick Meru up and take him to Agathoth, I could ask Meru to let this asshole tag along. And then Miltiades slit Meru's throat at Hellgate. Big surprise there.

Some chose the road to the desert, others the road from which there is no return. The Creed yet persists in a few silent quarters - the Empire wasn't leveled overnight after all - but you've only just gotten started.

Keep in mind Charisma affects the reputation gain.

Assassin background with 4 CHA stars with 2 boatmen reputation, 5 CHA starts with 3, 10 CHA starts with 7. This affects all the reputation gain in the game.

While it's not impossible to reach high reputation with low CHA (I reach 18 House Aurelian reputation and got the Consul ending with 4 CHA) it requires a lot more optimization.

The only true issues with DD are insane amount of grind (Never Again being the worst offender), relatively small amount of content stretched extremaly thin over 3 tiers of dungeons and extreme repetitiveness with very little variety. RNG is manageable once you git gud.

It is possible to get completly fucked from time to time with no way to prevent it, like getting hit by a crit multiple times in arow or getting very unlucky with speed rolls, but it's extremaly rare and to be expected.

Risk managment of a proper level isn't common in games, so bads will cry tears.
That said, the worst part of the game is the uneven grind, since there isn't that much content.
>>
>>179646095
No, the worst part is the RNG. Unlike Xcom where you can manage your troops to minize risks, in DD, you can't do anything.
And the second worst part is how deep in denial the fanboys are.
Grinding comes third because that's what you notice the last, and it get on your nerves especially after you lose a good hero because the game decided to be a piece of shit.
>>
>>179646335

> it's not really a good argument against RNG unless people can do that consistently
The fact that people finished NG+ without deaths is proof of being able to finish runs without deaths, which further proves RNG is completly manageable if you know what you are doing.

>Otherwise clearing it with no deaths can be written off as extreme luck
A NG+ runs gives you 86 weeks to finish the game. People who did it all took at least 60 weeks to do it.

60 weeks means 60 expeditions. 60 expeditions means 600 fights at thevery least, possibly more. Also, keep in mind enemies in NG+ have considerably more health and deal considerably more damage which akes you even more susceptible to RNG and requires more proper risk mangment to overcome.

This a huge sample with not a single death done by many people.

But yes, it is possible to get screwed. It is possible to get focused down by spiders and critted to deats (especially early on when you don't have that many ways of increasing your SPD) and so on. But it is those situations that are extremaly unlikely, not the other way around.

And even if this happens, the game clearly tells you retreating is an option that you should use if things go south. There is quite literally no excuse for party wipes, as soon as one hero dies retreating is the best course of action.

Shit, it's like going all-in with 2-7 pre-flop in Texas Holdem and complaining about bad RNG. Folding a bad hand is just as important as betting with a good one.
>>
>>179649857
Actually, I noticed that as well. It feels like a flash game.

I don't think any newgrounds flash games had this much grind.

Really, the grind is the main issue. Especially when you are forced to grind another 18 lvl 6 heroes with maxed gear/skills and good quirks because of Never Again bullshit.

>Okay so it's statistically irrelevant bullshit.
I don't see how.

>Let me tell you, few hardcore fans of the game boasting about their achievements does not paint a realistic picture of the overall win rates.
It certainly does prove RNG is manageable if you are good enough.

Whether most of the players is good enough or not is not relevant here, either the RNG is fair or not, you can't have it both ways.

There is also a huge gap between "no deaths at all in NG+ in 55 weeks" and "a couple of deaths here and there on normal in as many weeks as you want ". The latter is significantly easier to achieve.

>Take your "yuge sample" and shove it up your ass
Confirmation bias is hell of a drug I guess.

Dude, are you having trouble comprehending my first sentence or you just didn't bother reading it to the end?

RNG can be considered manageable if you can have a wanted result (e.g. clear the ng+ without deaths) in a controlled manner (e.g. 9 times out of 10), not just "some players can do it once in a while" because that rare occurrence can be written off as a good luck with RNG at that specific run.

I'm not even discussing DD right now, I'm addressing the flawed logic in your original argument.
>>
>>179651556
Do you even know what statistically relevant/significant means? Please look it up and don't fucking talk about huge samples when you have nothing but poorly sampled anecdotal evidence.

>Confirmation bias is hell of a drug I guess.
Oh the irony, your claim is a perfect textbook example of sampling bias. If it can even be called a sample.

For the record, I have no interest in the game beyond correcting you so I'm fairly unbiased. But I might miss the little meta nuances that the game's shitters and defenders have going on.

>I really didn't like the game at all because I didn't think it was fun or interesting, but I am interested in seeing people arguing what is and is not a problem with the game.
i tried really hard to like it, since i like grinding but i guess it was too hard for me.
the concept of it is pretty neat and i think the devs hit the nail on the head; the whole stress of going through dungeons and fighting monsters affecting the party members in various ways and such. its cool, though i dont think it makes for good gameplay.
>>
>>179652929
Well, I'm playing Sopgie, which has no timer (god I hate JRPGs that do time/turn limits). The cast is generally likeable, even if very shallow. Combat is okay, with the support/stance system and the heavy reliance on crafted consomables is quite fun (most JRPGs completely neglect consumables except for boss battles).
No idea how different the combat is, considering that it still feels kinda "basic" and "indie".
>>
>>179652964
It's okay to dislike a game, but people bash it for dumb reasons. I'm completly fine with people not wanting to play it because it's grindy and they don't like managing scarce resources (food/inventory/stress/HP/consumables) and risk. Or because they can't handle losing characters and such.

It's just that most complaints are literally DSP tier "WOOOOOOOOOOOOW, NOTHING I COULD DO".
>>
>>179652775

Look, NG+ run with no deaths at all is an extreme example. The most extreme and unlikely example there is.

The point is that since this is possible and done by many people, less optimal results that are significantly more likely (such as no deaths in normal mode, or even a few deaths here and there) can be achieved 9 times out of 10. If you couldn't achieve that in a controlled manner, NG+ with no deaths would be statistically impossible. It's not, so go figure.

>>179652865
>Do you even know what statistically relevant/significant means? Please look it up and don't fucking talk about huge samples when you have nothing but poorly sampled anecdotal evidence.

>Oh the irony, your claim is a perfect textbook example of sampling bias. If it can even be called a sample.
I am not claiming NG+ runs with no deaths are a guarantee. I'm saying that since they are possible and were done many times, they cannot be called "extreme luck" and show that RNG is manageable even at the highest difficulty, making it even more manageable with less skill required on normal with a few deaths.

>>179652964
>why do people correct false statements
Gee I dunno.

Most people, including me, just point out that RNG is not the main issue. Grind is absolutely terrible, but RNG is just fine in the context of a risk managment game.
>>
>>179653741
>It's just that most complaints are literally DSP tier "WOOOOOOOOOOOOW, NOTHING I COULD DO".
to be fair, incidents like that DO occur in darkest dungeon. you can get crit twice in a row and lose a character, literally not being able to do anything about it.
>>179653890
>why do people correct false statements
thats not what i said or meant, i asked why people defend the game so hard. opinions are not "false statements".
>>
>>179653352
It already sounds like a huge improvement from Meruru. I don't mind time limits really, unless it's all the time. There are exceptions like Dead Rising because if you don't want to deal with the time limit you can just say fuck it and keep playing. Looks like I won't be trying it out either because I'm on an i5 and I'd like to not suffer another stuttery jrpg.
>>
>>179654067
> you can get crit twice in a row and lose a character, literally not being able to do anything about it
2 crits are hardly enough to kill a character. I don't think 2 cirts are even enough to put someone at death's door in most cases, safe for bosses.

Early on you don't have as many options, but enemies simply do not deal enough damage to kill you in 2 hits. Later on this is possible, but by this point you have a wide variety of options to avoid this. Speed, dodge, guard, shuffles, pulls, debuffs, etc.

There are cases where you can lose a hero and not be able to do anything about it, but it's rare. Extremaly rare. Rare to the point where it might not happen even once in the entire game. And even if it happens, you can retreat to cut your loses, which is something the game encourages.

>opinions are not "false statements"
But it's not a matter of opinion. Saying that RNG in Darkest Dungeon is completly unmanageable and you can't do anything about it is just plain incorrect.
>>
>>179654067
On NG+, sure. But on normal, there's so many failsafes. You can abort the mission at any time, even during combat (it only has a significant chance to fail if you have characters that already hit 100 stress). The Deaths Door mechanic is also really forgiving. Most characters have good Death Blow reistance and you literally need to heal a single HP to get back from Deaths Door.

All you need for a deathless run on a non-NG+ games is a decent understanding of the game (you can read up everything on the wiki if you want) and some patience.

Where did you get that from? You only linked me a thread with 6 posters. Unfortunately it's hard to gather any kind of meaningful statistics because the game doesn't appear have any kind of online leaderboards nor player-tracking spyware beyond steam achievements.

Anyways according to steamspy, the game has 1.2 million players. 600 out of those would still be a tiny meaningless fraction, 0.05%. Not a yuge sample. Maybe it's not about extreme luck but it's safe to say that it is something that practically nobody has done, for whatever reasons.

To be honest shuffling has extremlay limited use. Pulling bone nobility to the 1st rank is pretty much the only case where it's 100% worth it and only if you have a solid chance for it to succeed. Kinda useful for the fishfolk shamans as well.

Pushing melee guys to the back so they use a shitty low-damage skill is hardly worth it on its own, but Bounty Hunter Upeercut does that and stun at the same time so it's alright.

Other than that I would rather do something else than shuffle. Cheesing Drowned Crew by pulling it in front of the anchor is actually not a good idea, killing it normally takes longer but is much safer.

>>Pushing melee guys to the back so they use a shitty low-damage skill is hardly worth it on its own, but Bounty Hunter Upeercut does that and stun at the same time so it's alright.

It can be good if you set it up so there is a melee guy in the 2nd and 3rd rank. You get a 50% chance of the 3rd rank guy doing a shit attack first, which will push the 2nd guy to the 3rd rank and make him do another shitty attack, and a 50 chance of the 3rd rank going second, which still makes the 2nd guy go in the 3rd rank and start the whole thing over again next turn.

I think this just works for skeleton knights and the melee mushroom guys though.

The fat bandit + knife bandit + gun bandit is also a good target for the tentacle grab or grappling hook skill. You can pull the gun bandit to the front, which shoves the knife bandit to the back, forcing both of them to waste their turn with a rushed shot and shitty stab.

>>
>>179690187
You'll want to keep the blacksmith and guild well-upgraded to keep up with the more difficult dungeons later on. The sanitarium is a good investment, but two heroes can cure diseases for free while camping and you can get through the entire game without touching quirk management, so it isn't really necessary. The survivalist and nomad wagon are a decent use of crests if you have some to spare. The abbey and tavern should be your lowest priority for upgrades, since they'll rarely see use if you practice good stress management. The deeds and portraits required to upgrade them would be better spent on the blacksmith and guild, anyway.

It doesn't really matter how you train your heroes, but by the end of the game you'll need at least four fully-upgraded parties to do the four darkest dungeon missions. For quests, abuse stuns and the retreat button. I like bringing a dedicated healer and stress-healer on my parties, but you don't need them to do well. Also, learn/google curio interactions.

>what things should i upgrade in the town first
Stage Coach
Blacksmith and Guild
Abbey
Sanitarium
In this order. It's absolutely essential to get a steady source of new heroes and decent roster size first.

When that is done you should mainyl focus on upgrading the gear and skills of your heroes.

Upgrading the abbey for improved stress relief is far less important.

Sanitarium is very nice, but quirk treatment is expensive even with upgrades and only shines late in the game when you already have good gear and skills. Feel free to improve medical devices sooner though, cheap disease treatment is worth it. You can treat diseases with heroes as well, but it's less reliable.

As for other buildings and why I didn't mention them:

Tavern serves the exact same purpose as Abbey, that is stress relief. The problem is that it's a waste of resources to upgrade 2 buildings that serve the same purpose and Tavern is strictly inferior for a few reasons:

1. it requires portraits to upgrade, which detracts from guild upgrades. Abbey requires busts, which detracts from sanitarium upgrades. The thing is upgrading the guild is a top priority while sanitarium is not.

2. The potential negative effects of Tavern are far worse than Abbey. Drinking has only negative effects with no positives. Gambling can make you lose a trinket. Brothel is actually pretty cool because you can get a +5 SPEED bonus, which is huge, but it's just as likely to get a -5 SPEED debuff which is crippling.

Overall, stay away from the Tavern unless you have a hero with a quirk that forces him to go there. If it's gambler, get rid of the quirk, don't risk losing trinkets. Even then, don't waste resources to upgrade it.

Survivalist is important because good selection of camping skills can make all the difference, but you own't be buying them all that often and all the upgrades do is lower the cost. You can upgrade it once or twice but it's not really worth it.

con.
>>
>>179690187
>>179708089
Nomad Wagon sucks. It requires a fuckton of money to get a trinket you could get during an expedition and it's not even likely that the wagon will have something you want.

Upgrades lower the cost, but cost a fuck ton of crests instead.

It's just not worth the investment. EArly on yuo can't afford to spend so much money/crests on a small chance of getting a nice trinket and later on you will be swimming in money if you to buy one.

>should i be training different heroes all the time in low level dungeons, or keep going with what i have until i lose a party member?
Generally it's best to train heroes and upgrade their gear. It's a good investment.

Don't listen to people who suggest "suicide runs" with fresh heroes you put no money in, it's a poor strategy that actually wastes more of your time than giving new heroes proper skills and gear.

I'd say I still find it playable alone but it's not super fun

There is some nice exploration aspect and cool dungeons
You can also build a lot of crap and this game has shitton of miscellaneous furniture

It also has a lot of systems, cooking food, buffs, farming, crafting, pokemon-like system where you capture monsters and they can be used as companions, ship-building, terraforming, boss fights, etc. Recently they've added mechs and space station buildling.

And there's a lot of content in each system, e.g. I think there a few hundred of different food recipes in the game, couple of hundred capturable monsters, etc.

But at the same time every system sucks if you dig deep into it

I'm currently at my 9th in-game day and the "story" so far seems pretty shallow in terms of character interactions.

>>179722429
I have a friend who really liked Furi. In fact, I've watched him, uh, beat the entire game. It doesn't look like the kind of game that's particularly spoiled just by having seen it, since it's so execution focused, but I'm worried I might have ruined it for myself anyway.

>>179722259
Is it really not? What's wrong with it?
>>
>>179723154
Not really, actually.
I tried Furi after seeing some shitty Youtuber failing at it (it was Phil Burnell, that faggot), and I still had fun. Well, for a limited while anyway. It's pretty forgiving, but you die a lot.
>>
>>179723154
Axiom Verge's biggest problem is that the environments don't have a lot of personality. You go from one zone to another and their overall character is very similar.
>>
>>179722181
Hyperlight has great gameplay, hands down. Controls are tight, you have a ton of options, and there are easymodo weapons. The only part of the game that is slow is the optional arena, waiting between waves of spawns.

Graphics are good, but not defined enough to really care about the world as a setting. If you don't pay REALLY close attention it can feel like splotches on your screen.

Artstyle is a breath of fresh air. Not cutesy, more subtle gore, and it gets a lot of variety out of such a zoomed out view with small sprites.

Design-wise, they do that thing where there's ALWAYS a hint to the secret. There is literally 2 spots where I made a leap of faith, and 3 where I need to move to a specific spot for the camera to inexplicably pan. Most of the puzzles are laid out to the observant.

Story is opaque as fuck. The only words are ciphered monoliths, but people talk through illustration. You're not gonna get this unless you go lookup wikis on what the hell is going on.
>>
>>179722181
HLD is a good game, but has the glaring flaw that it is way too short. In particular, a LOT of content was cut during development. Several bosses, a few areas, etc -- not a problem for someone who didn't follow development, but kinda crappy for those who did.

Additionally, the entire endgame felt rushed. The southern area was lackluster for all the hype they built up with it, only to turn out to be miniboss hell, and the area before the Immortal Cell (I call it the Beating Heart for simplicity) was completely devoid of anything BUT the Immortal Cell. It's thematically functional since the Beating Heart was sealed off from the rest of the world since what might as well be ancient times, but from a gameplay perspective, it sucked.

I give it about a 7/10. Radio the Universe will be better.

I thought Axiom Verge was pretty good. It's strongest point is how effectively it subverts most Metroid tropes with pretty much every unlockable power-up, and how there are a lot of secrets and content to explore.

The world itself does a good job at feeling alien and disturbing, but like that other anon said this comes at the expense of a lot of the areas looking similar, so unless you have a really good spatial awareness and are good at mapping things out in your head, expect to get lost as the map isn't very helpful.

The music is alright and the spritework is okay (although a bit noisy). Overall I'd say it's worth a go, maybe wait for a sale if you're hesitant.

It's always been playable although chucklefuck did their best to remove any fun from the game during the betas.

But let me talk about the best part of Starbound, because it's nothing you'd expect.
It's the descriptive fluff text and the races. Yeah, seriously. It's fun to explore with friends and have your characters comment on absolutely fucking everything they come across. I think that is a nice touch and actually a great way to build personality for the different races.

I miss the last moments of /sbg/. We had some nice little colonies hidden in normie servers.

Starbound has similar progression through mining and equipment tiers so you probably should avoid it. Also, I think Starbound is objectively worse of the two in terms of overall design goals, their implementations, and game engine tech.

The main difference between Terraria and Starbound is that in Terraria you're stuck on one very-well designed planet, whereas in Starbound you can visit endless number of kind of meh planets and you have your spaceship as a mobile base.

I can't stand the combat and mining in Starbound. In a game that should have been a blatant ripoff of Terraria and its mechanics, they somehow fucked those two integral parts up. Combat especially feel so choppy and it doesn't fit in when you move from exploration to combat whatsoever.
>>
>>179751259
Farming sounds fun and the fighting looks nice, but I hate mining or any tier system.
It's repetitive, doesn't bring anything new to the game, and just works as a limiter to lock you out of the best stuff until you grinded (ground?) enough.

Items should be like in metroid games, they should give you new options to force you to adapt to something new, instead of just improving your base stat and make you dependent from upgrades.
And speaking of Metroid, apparently Starbound ripped the spider ball or whatever its name was? And also the bad guy from Star Fox 64?

>>179751528
Wait, even combat is trash? Man, that sucks.
>>
>>179751651
>Wait, even combat is trash? Man, that sucks.
It was nothing special in Terraria, but at least it had flow and you could drop whatever you were doing and kill the thing and then go back to whatever you were doing (or just run past it). When you fight something in Starbound, the whole game stops. You stop what you're doing, you spend the next 30 seconds fighting some stupid monster or monsters, and then you go back to exploring. Hostile enemies also spawn almost as much as in Terraria, so get ready for your experience to get fucked by shitty combat. Not only that, in Terraria, you get movement options almost immediately and monster sprites are so small that you can usually avoid them altogether, but not in Starbound.

I like the artstyle and building choices more, but I can't put up with gathering all the shit in this awful game just to indulge my autism.
>>
>>179751528
I wouldn't say the combat is any worse than Terraria, but Starbound doesn't have good bossfights like Terraria does.
>>
>>179752085

>>
>>179752494
My issue is with the gameflow, not the game's difficulty.
>>
>>179752085
I noticed that with the beta version. But at least you have shields in Starbound. I hated how Terraria never had any options for that.

But fuck, it's not worth bothering just to poke things in the face with a spear. I'll just play Dark Souls or Mount and Blade.
>>
>>179752654
Sure buddy. The way you describe the flow makes it sound like you're very bad at the combat. They don't stop the exploration any more than they do in Terraria. If anything, Starbound is better in the regard that you're not forced to grind hundreds of boring mobs for trinket drops.

>>
>>179752990
The best way to play Terraria is not to be looking for specific drops, but to use the ones you find naturally.
For example, don't go hunting through the icy biome for the snow boots, just explore as you go and take them if you find them.
I speak as a Terraria General regular, the RNG is a cruel mistress and WILL stop anything you are looking for from appearing
>>
>>179753903
Yeah, of course you want to avoid the grinding as much as possible. But you NEED certain trinkets to craft the endgame stuff.
>>
>>179751527
What's the issue here?
>>
>>179753864
Sounds like this new "game mechanic" is just going to be a form of level scaling where rare random mini-bosses spawn once you hit high enough level.

That's pretty meh honestly, but it would be cool if black crawlers could spawn instead of regular crawlers.
>>
>>179753864
He still doesn't know why he found it.
>>
>>179754465
Sounds like a random spawn. He went with a higher level than usual so it might be a form of level scaling.
>>
>>179754121
The game is half mining, so if you aren't willing to grind even by the time you're at endgame I don't know what to tell you
>>
>>179754668
The amount of ores you need for gear upgrades comes naturally while just spelunking/exploring. But running around a single biome to hunt specific monsters for their extremely rare drops? Worse than MMOs. Thankfully there isn't much of that.

I don't think that's it. I've been to Depot A at much higher level than him.

I think it's some kind of random encounter. There probably is some condition behind it, because I doubt when we got the screenshot he was doing area transitions for 30 minutes (which is about how long it took him to post it) until it spawned. But eh. I was satisfied in knowing that it's in Depot A (the screenshot gave that away too), I failed the final autism skill check to finish the hunt.

Or he spawn chance is simply ridiculously low. Keep in mind the mechanic is not fully implemented yet.

He could simply have a save where it already spawned. Considering he checks for bugs and such I imagine he has tons of different saves.

The issue is the final third of the Forty Thieves questline. It takes such a nosedive I swear to god Vince must have put it together while sitting on the shitter.

The Teron quests were simply fantastic. I'd go as far as to say the Theron thief quests is the single best guild questline and content in general in the game. Maadoran was good too.

But Ganezzar is a fucklng trainwreck. No sneaking, no thievery, you get a short dungeon crawl, then straight up get sent to kill a guy with no actual use for any kind of thief skill, then you pick one side and get a big fight, or pick the other side and you don't. And then you get sent to the Temple in the most ridiculous railroaded fashion. If you side with the Ganezzar branch no one even tells you to find it, the quest just literally pops up in your journal. Nothing else left to do, find the Temple to finish the game! Never mind that in order to get a guild ending you have to either blow the place up or leave and pretend it doesn't exist. So why do you have to go there?

And then there's the matter of skill checks. I think I have done every thief skill check in the game, and the highest skill I needed was sneak 9 to get to the innkeeper's chest in Ganezzar. Other than that 7 trap got me through everything, thievery needed 8 only for a single merchant, lockpicking 8 for one optional door under the castle. Not even the final dungeon had anything. Shit, the Temple's final two lockpick checks lead to empty rooms.

We are talking about binary skills. If there is no check for them they are worthless, because passing checks is the only thing they are used for. Without the metaknowledge to not spend your points on maxing them, you will throw your 30 skill points out the window.
>>
>>179753864
Proofs?
>>
>>179755649
He talked about conditions before, so I don't think it's just a ridiculously low spawn chance. But it could be. This possibility is partially the reason I wasn't willing to waste time on it.

>He could simply have a save where it already spawned.
Yeah, that's also possible. But he said something like finding it for the first time was hard, but not now that he knows how to do it.
>>
>>179757065
Some guy said so and we believe him because we have no reason not to. And him being clueless about how or why it happened matches the few things we do know about this encounter.
>>
>>179756931
>The Teron quests were simply fantastic. I'd go as far as to say the Theron thief quests is the single best guild questline and content in general in the game. Maadoran was good too.
You know, that's generally the case with all guilds if you ask me.

Teron has the best guild quests but little side content, Maadoran has decent guild quests but way more and better side content, while both are meh at best in Ganezzar. Ganezzar still feels rushed imo.

>But Ganezzar is a fucklng trainwreck. No sneaking, no thievery, you get a short dungeon crawl, then straight up get sent to kill a guy with no actual use for any kind of thief skill, then you pick one side and get a big fight, or pick the other side and you don't.
I liked the dungeon crawl. Didn't really like being forced to fight Faelan though.

Yeah, that was kinda anti-climatic. I guess they simply wanted to allow people to get to the Temple, but they should give a better explanation for that.

If I remember correctly you need 9 traps to get through the hangar gate.

That 9 sneak innkeeper was retarded though, there was like what, 2000 gold in there? What do I need gold for at this point?

con.
>>
>>179756931
I think it would be cool if you could sneak past the constructs at Hellgate with 9-10 sneak. Gives a much better incentive to invest into it.

Also, I think you need 8 traps to open the chest in Ganezzar Commercium building, the one with the power tube.

>Shit, the Temple's final two lockpick checks lead to empty rooms.
I don't get this either. I guess it gives you more space to fight the constructs but that's still dumb. That said, the whole 2nd level of the Temple used to not exist at all.
>>
>>179756931
>Maadoran was good too

The Burst's entire theme from start to finish. I look forward to that fight every time because of it.

Also the Line's theme during his desperation attack.
>>
>>179757790
>You know, that's generally the case with all guilds if you ask me.

Sort of, but I thought the Imperial Guards had a good last third. Caer-Tor was nice, you get to see Ganezzar pre-siege and visit Al-Akia as part of the questline. you get to participate in the siege, you can go back to Teron to conspire with Carrinas, you get a believable reason to go and look for the Temple. You do things a soldier would do.

Boatmen was less good, but it was alright. You continue your job and assassinate several people in a row. That's all you do, and that's alright.

But the thieves? The dungeon was not bad, although for the sake of consistency it would have worked better as a stealth sequence. I honestly don't understand why it wasn't one. At least that would give you a non-combat option for the scolopendra. But the rest is either talk or fight, with no alternative options for either, not even the usual critical strike check. It was incredibely poorly done.

>If I remember correctly you need 9 traps to get through the hangar gate.
Could be, that's one I couldn't check. Traps is not checked when you lockpick the gate, but I remember from previous playthroughs that it is if you try to bash it in. I didn't get that option this time, but I don't know if it's because I passed the lockpick check to identify the keyhole or something else.

>there was like what, 2000 gold in there?
Slightly less, but yep. About 2000 and nothing else.

>I think it would be cool if you could sneak past the constructs at Hellgate with 9-10 sneak.
Yeah, that would have been cool. Since this time I rolled a pure thief (so no combat, lore, crafting, or alchemy) I was surprised how utterly useless my skills were at Hellgate.

>Also, I think you need 8 traps to open the chest in Ganezzar Commercium building,
Do you? I don't remember, but maybe. I'll check it later.
>>
>>179758838
This reminds me, is it revealed anywhere if Cyrus went rogue when he accepted Levir's offer? It follows the path where you betray the Boatmen for the noble lady you are sent to kill, but I don't remember anything indicating that Cyrus was a traitor. Weird that you couldn't do the assassination yourself in that branch.

The funniest moment for me though was right after the assassination when Levir took me with him to the stat-boost machine. He and Iola had this whole long scene discussing what a shame it is that they can't test the procedure because there probably aren't even any more tubes, while I was standing right in front of them with an extra in my inventory with no way to tell them about it. And here I was hoping I'd get a freebie without the lore/craft investment.

It's less 'survival' and more 'autistic Harvest Moon-type RPG.' You start out as a hapless newman and have to progress through various stages of stone-age to medieval technology. There's an utterly mind-boggling amount of steps required to do anything, and it's all dependent on stats and having enough 'learning points' to raise them or buy new skills. For example, see that ittybitty crop field?
>have enough learning points to learn 'Foraging'
>raise Perception stat and Exploration skill high enough to find wild seeds
>dry wild seeds on standing rack for ~1/2 IRL day
>pray to god you get useful seeds from it
IN THE MEANTIME
>grind learning points to research 'Farming'
>gather materials to build a plow
>plow out desired field
>if seeds are ready, now you can plant them
>Wait 2 IRL days for them to grow
Of course, whether you have GOOD plants is all dependent on the soil quality, as well as the seed quality, which was dependent on the wild seed quality, which is dependent on, again, your Perception*Exploration value, as well as your Survival skill value. It's ridiculously, autistically deep, and that's only scratching the surface of all the things to be made and produced. Every little thing in the game does or affects something in one way or another.

Oh, and it's multiplayer, all on one gigantic mega-shard.

It is very good. And don't believe those who call it a visual novel or claim that it's impossible without savescumming with skill points, neither is true. The combat system and encounter design is fantastic so picking a combat build for your first run is a good idea. You will miss out on a lot of non-combat content, but you will be free to explore everywhere and build up knowledge for a non-combat run. Managing a non-combat build is a little trickier, but the game does a good job informing you what are the skills you are likely going to need before a quest, so you can prepare or make the informed decision that you probably should stay away from that quest. On my thief run there was only one quest where I had to do the skill point savescumming, the rest was just consistent leveling of my primary and secondary skills.
>>
>>179796428
> don't believe those who call it a visual novel
I can be pretty damn close to a visual novel on non-combat builds. Especially if you already played the game a few times and know who to talk to in what order.

I broke the Monastery quest in AoD.

If you choose to side with the raiders, instead of fighting the defenders you can backtrack to kill the raider leader and his 2 archers.

As soon as the main group kills the 3 defenders, you will be teleported up on the wall and the combat won't stop until you kill the leader and his archers who are still down there. This can be impossible to do if you odn't use ranged weapons since there is no way to get down. I was using a crossbow and killed both archers before the defenders died so all I had to do was to shoot at the leader while he couldn't touch me at all.

If you do kill the leader and the two archers, they will be magically resurrected and still appear inside the monastery.

That's pretty disappointing honestly. The game doesn't appreciate how much of a double-crossing dick I am. It's a good way to get a higher body count though.
>>
>>179815276
A lot of fake and unfinished unity, her, and signaled games got removed only because one guy connected to all of them was astroturfing and sockpuppeting
>>
>>179815676
Unity, ue4, and rpgmaker
>>
>>179815298
That sounds needlessly complicated. Why not just kill the raiders, then kill the villagers after you grabbed the extract?

That magic resurrection is basically the same thing I got when I slaughtered the Ordu camp. The game rewards a lot of things, but braking the game is sadly not one of them.

Although there are some unintentional inconsistencies that are not related to abusing the system, like the Boatmen questline has you assassinate the Aurelian legate. But if you after that recover the ship, he will be resurrected for the negotiation scene.
>>
>>179795526
>It's the same in evey game ever.
>Even when I played Splinter Cell Chaos Theory online, I was bullied.
Lmao, you have no idea

H&H a) is very grindy b) has permadeath where you lose everything but retain like 1% of your skills or something c) has free PVP

Bullying means you'll eventually get killed for no reason and lose months of your progress. Also the high stakes of this game made cheating and abusing elements of the game like isometric camera quite prolific. It was fun as a novel thing when it sprung out but after I've played it for quite a while years ago, I'll say that it's broken by design.

I'm surprised it didn't die out yet.
>>
>>179816089
>Why not just kill the raiders, then kill the villagers after you grabbed the extract?
Because it's easier to let the raiders and vilalgers kill each other while you take care of the leader and his archers. My combat merchant can't reliably kill all the raiders without tons of liquid fire or savescumming.

It's also a lot easier to kill the leaders/archers on the bridge with lots of space and distance instead of the tight room inside Monastery, at least on ranged builds.

>The game rewards a lot of things, but braking the game is sadly not one of them.
Eh, double-crossing someone in the middle of a fight is hardly breaking the game. More like an oversight on devs part.

Underrail question.

So it seems I'm gonna have to join one of the Core City's factions, and I was thinking of joining Praetorian Security since the guards look exactly like my character (metal armor and assault rifle), so I assume they will have equipment that will be good for me, is this correct or do JKK and Coretech have some really good stuff for my character?
>>
>>179825580

Praetorians = combat shit, like armors and guns and shit.
Coretech = tech shit, like energy shields and laser guns
JKK = sneaky shit like crossbows and lighter vests

I was kind of disappointed that the faction you decide to help doesn't have much affect on Core City's ending.

But here, just for you. 30% in 2h weapons against a paladin with 80% in 1h.

Sorry for shit quality but I'd rather post 5 webms instead of 10. The occasional lag is because of recording.

It would take exactly 128 hits to knock him down, which is doable, but I don't have patience for that and it would take like dozens of webms. I think I got over 20 here while being hit once on my second attempt, which is pretty good considering the lags.

If your Forty Thieves reputation is low enough (currently at -24) this fight will trigger if you try to visit the slums.

Same thing happens if your imperial guard rep is low enough, they will ambush you when traveling between towns. The difference being you are not surrounded, they don't throw nets at you and there is no convenient barricade with 2 crossbowmen eating away at your HP and AP.

The fight is difficult enough even near the end of the game, but since I'm with Commercium, saved Militades and helped Basil, it already triggered in Madoraan.

>The setting. You have one guy with a heavy shield blocking you, two crossbowmen pinning you down, and you fagots wrecking your shit from behind.
It looks worse than it is. Best way to tackle it is to run up to the shield guy, switch places with feint and throw liquid fire to cut all the melee guys off. Now you have a few free turns to deal with the 2 crossbowmen.

The problem is even the two of them hit like a truck and don't seem to miss at all. It's even worse if the -3 AP triggers. I will probably come back once I have more dodge.
>>
>>179852179
Are crossbows dangerous in Decadence?
>>
someone mentioned proper stress management in dd
what's that include, by and large?
>>
>>179852260
Everything is.

But crossbows are annoying because they hit hard, they can hit you from anywhere since they are ranged and they have a chance to give you a -3 AP penalty which completly fucks with your planning. Block builds have nice bonuses vs Ranged so it's a lot easier for them.
>>
>>179852054
>so if i understand correctly; i should not try to level fresh heroes, but only send them in with upgraded gear and skills?
Yes. Level really doesn't change much except for allowing you to upgrade skills and gear. You get a bit of resistances each level, but it's the gear and skills upgrades that determine HP, dodge, accuracy, damage, etc.

>should i always be doing this?
Yes. Having anything but the best gear/skills available is a huge handicap.

>i read in a review somewhere i forget, someone described this game in a way. he said that you dont really play as a party, rather you play as the town. is that basically the gist of it? should i be looking at it that way instead of having "main" parties or whatever?
Pretty much. You will end up with a lot of parties. Sometimes heroes will be too stressed to go on an expedition again so you will have to replace them with someone else. Or sometimes they simply die.

>sorry for the wall of text, i just dont get this game. im trying my best but i cant even get past the 2nd mission
You mean the 1st expedition into Ruins? That one is pretty easy. Try to focus all your damage on one enemy at a time. Offense is the best defense so don't use stuns if killing the enemy is going to be faster. It's generally best to kill stress-dealing enemies first as it's much easier to heal damage than stress.

>>179852358
Killing stress dealers before they are able to stress your heroes

Scoring critcal hits since ever crit reduces stress by a small amount, adds up quickly with high crit chance.

Stress heal abilites, such as Jester's Inspiring Tune or Houndmaster's Cry Havoc.

Stress heal camp skills.

Trinkets that reduces stress taken.

And more. Stress is basically a second health bar.

Offense is the best defense so don't use stuns if killing the enemy is going to be faster. It's generally best to kill stress-dealing enemies first as it's much easier to heal damage than stress.
i mean the 2nd time you ever go into any dungeon. i can get through the first one no problem but usually i dont make it through the next one.
what i really need is a guide or something that will help me figure out what provisions to bring into dungeons. i think thats a problem im having; i really have no idea what to buy besides torches and food. i know bandages and antidote are useful but i dont know where they are useful or how much money i should spend.
thanks for all the info though, im gonna read through the posts again and give the game another go.

>what i really need is a guide or something that will help me figure out what provisions to bring into dungeons.

Short dungeons: at least 8 torches (I usually go 8, one stack is 8 and that 9th one will be used almost immediately)

8-12 food. I tend to go with 12, better safe than sorry.

2 shovels. You really don't want to clear obstacles by hand, you take so much damage and stress from it it's crazy.

Medium dungeons: at least 12 torches, 18 food, 3 shovels.

Long dungeons: 16 torches, 22-24 food, 3-4 shovels.

Keep in mind those are not some absolute numbers. Maybe you can do with less torches but need more food etc. You have to figure it out yourself.

Dungeon specific:

Ruins: bring holy water. Like, lots of holy water. There are tons of curios that will give you strong buffs or stress relief if you have holy water. I usually go with 2-3. You can bring less torches as you are more likely to find them along the way.

Warrens: bring medical herbs. Tons of filthy stuff you can purify with them. You can bring less food to the warrens since you can find plenty of it if you have medical herbs to purify food carts and such. Bring enough to not starve though, don't rely on RNG too much. Better safe than sorry.

Weald: Antivenom is handy for both curio interaction and all the blight damage. Bring at least one more shovel that in other dungeons, obstacles are more plentiful there.

Cove: bandages help with bleed, useful for some curio interaction.

You really should look up curio interactions on the wiki.

>>
>>179854814
>i dont know what a curio is
All the objects you can interact with in dungeons. chests, suits of armor, altars, etc.

There is usually an item that will give you serious benefits if you use it on a curio. For example using holy water on confession booth is 30 stress relief.

Or it can end terribly. Using a torch on books results in 100 stress. Don't do that.

Over the last few months I've been working on another side project I want to have done by the time halloween comes around, and I got a small demo done, it should be around 20 minutes long, 30 tops.
This is meant to be a small game based on an old webcomic of mine, the basic premise being that of a spooky castle that you can't escape and you must get a special gem on top or you'll die in 12 hours.

I have a demo ready too, and I need to know if there's stuttering issues like the first demos of SteelZeroes.

Are there multiple endings? I got the one where Dudley turns out to be the loli in the flashbacks and kills Benjamin. Why did she do this? I think I will attempt to beat my body count record in AoD. Right now it's 291. I would be really happy with over 300 and all 3 gods. Well, technically it's 2 gods and one semi-god.

Does anyone know which guild questline gives you the biggest amount of opportunities to increase body count? I got 291 as a pure Imperial Guard from start to finish, but a lot of their fights involve other guards stealing your kills.
>>
>>179915480
I don't think anything can beat Imperial Guard when it comes to killing opportunities. If you want to deal with allies stealing your kills, just kill your allies too. Either use a weapon that can do whirlwind, or toss explosives. Those don't discriminate between friend or foe. Or you could try to steal their kills. Pick a nice spot, and poison those that are nearing their death.

And if you start murdering civilians too you'll hit 300 in no time.

Anyone else play this game? Its only in "pre-early access" so it's pretty unknown. Its a top down shooter where every person controls a single soldier and you usually end up with three groups of people who are either getting resources, building supplies or defenses, and fighting on the frontline.

Free? Ok, I'll try it.
>>
>>179917189
>And if you start murdering civilians too you'll hit 300 in no time
Eh, I want to get legit 300 kills. I know it's possible to kill pretty much all NPCs in Teron/Madoraan/Ganezzar during fights that take place on the town streets, or other exploits such as killing all the Ordu during the fight with Belgutai, but that's lame.

Different question- is it possible to get Levir's medical jar and keep it to spend both on the medical machine in the Monastery?

Thieves can steal the jar but I don't remember if they are allowed to keep it or forced to give it to Levir.

Thieves, Assassins and Merchants can kill Levir and use the machine themselves, but that's +1 CON instead of a +1 STR/CON/DEX. I don't think it's possible to kill Lola to take the jar which is disappointing.
>>
>>179918050
Yeah its free although I don't know what the devs are planning for when they fully release the game.
>>
>>179917409
So uh, right, what the fuck do I do? How do I get resources or fight or something?
>>
>>179918715
Depends what you want to do. To some people just grinding out resources is pretty boring so you could go to the frontline and hope there are supplies for you. Use your map a lot, if theres any coalitions on your server then they should have placed markers around. Also if you want to head to the frontline just ask people where they need support or where the frontline is. When you get there you should look for a town hall which usually has guns and ammo stocked in it and you can also use them to re spawn at.

If you don't mind getting scrap you just need a hammer and you can start getting them from anywhere on the map that has the scrap yard marker. After that you have to bring it to a manufacturing plant to salvage them and from there you can use the materials to create vehicles or equipment and supplies, however its probably best if you just buddy up with someone else who has a truck otherwise you're going to be moving very slowly.
>>
>>179918978
I can't respawn at halls, only option is "spawn in the wild"
>>
>>179919631
They need to have soldier supplies inside them for you to be able to respawn at them. If its near a frontline you could try telling people to bring some to that townhall and they probably will.
>>
>>179918413
>Thieves can steal the jar but I don't remember if they are allowed to keep it or forced to give it to Levir.

If you want to finish the quest? I don't think so. But there is nothing forcing you to remain with the thieves guild once you have the jar. You are not teleported back to Levir's room, you are free to move around before giving it to him. However there is no way the remove the jar from your inventory. Other than using it, at least. But I don't know if you can.

>>179920687
Turns out it's a non-issue for me anyways. I will be doing a crossbow build so no use for STR whatsoever. I will start with 9 DEX, get it to 10 with the Monastery machine. Since you can't increase a stat beyond 10 with the healing machine, that leaves me with +1 COn as the only option anyways.

Do you recall what training assassins get in Madoraan? I recall you can be trained by Hamza but don't remember the details.

I'm trying to weight down the benefits of betraying AG to join IG in Teron. IG gets +10 ranged and +5 dodge in Caer Tor, but AG gets +1 CON if you betray them in Madoraan, said training with Hamza and possibly something else I don't remember.
>>
>>179928252
>Do you recall what training assassins get in Madoraan?

Hamza increases your CS by 1 level if it's 5 or less, or gives 10 CS training if it's 6 or more. But you need at least 10 AG reputation to receive it.

I don't remember any other AG training in Maadoran. Varro also trains your CS in Ganezzar, but I think this is all the post-Teron training you get from them.
>>
>>179930341
>Hamza increases your CS by 1 level if it's 5 or less, or gives 10 CS training if it's 6 or more. But you need at least 10 AG reputation to receive it.
Just what I wanted to know, thanks.

Is 10 AG rep doable when starting as a mercenary with 4 CHA, assuming I do all their task perfectly before betraying them at the end of Madoraan questline? Sounds like it isn't, 10 is a lot and there isn't a lot of ways to increase AG rep. I wanted to start as a mercenary for higher bodycount, but I might start as an assassin for the bonus 2 rep.

>>
>>179931575
Nope, it's not possible. You can get it to 10+ about midway through Ganezzar, but not sooner.

My 4 CHA mercenary had only 4 reputation before the Lorenza quest. So that +2 from rolling assassin alone isn't going to help, but I don't know how much rep you get for doing the Teron in quest as an assassin.
>>
>>179932575
Yes
At least it was early on
>>
>>179932882
I think I will go AG -> IG then. I'd rather have +10 ranged, +5 dodge and more opportunities to kill people than that +1 CON.

Not to mention the added challenge in the form of fighting with Neleos and the guild. That fight was hard as balls the last time I did it.

The game has like 7 categories with enemies with like 3 specific unit types each (many of which are just direct statistical upgrades of the others). It has escort quests, den kill quests, and roving kill quests. No overarching plot or long-term goals. Endgame crises that you "beat" by doing more of the same kill quests you've been doing all game. Balance is shit and the game progression is a complete fucking slog because it wants to stretch nonexistent content for as much time as possible. Once you know how to play you'll also be doing pretty much the exact same shit every run because the game gives you very little resource management and is completely inflexible in what you're able to do.

Also no fucking mod support.

Overall the game is officially proclaimed "finished", but for $30-$40 it's in an absolutely laughable state, pretty much carried entirely by the fact that melee xcom is fun. I've played freeware roguelikes with more hand-designed content than this, in fact that's pretty much every freeware roguelike. Overall I'm glad I pirated this, both for the amount of time I played it and the fact that the devs seem to have completely blown off their buyers.

Is there a finite supply of joy, or do Buzzo and his boys brew up new batches somewhere?

I think Buzzo and his gangs are the sole distributer of joy. You never see any merchants selling joy.

We see Brad using joy even before he found Buddy as a baby, and there is still joy around even after Buddy gets kidnapped/runs away at least 10 years later, so Buzzo either makes more of it somehow or there is a giant stockpile of joy that can keep addicts drugged up for over a decade.

I suppose Brad's "dealer" was just some random joy boy. I don't think Buzzo was making regular visits to Brad's place, otherwise why would he wait so many years to start fucking around with Brad?

>I don't see what's so complicated about it.

Okay, then explain what FEL or MET is. Or what the fuck you're supposed to do with Assaying.
>>
>>179979880

as·say
ˈaˌsā,aˈsā/
verb
gerund or present participle: assaying

1.
>determine the content or quality of (a metal or ore).
>determine the biochemical or immunological activity of (a sample).
>"cell contents were assayed for enzyme activity"
>examine (something) in order to assess its nature.
>"stepping inside, I quickly assayed the clientele"

It's probably to examine potions and mushrooms and shit to tell whether or not they're give you +3 to strength or give you ass cancer or make your dick explode.
>>
>>179979880
FEL is "Feelings". The capacity to emphasize with NPCs and monsters.
MET is "Methane". It's used to determine your maximum gas capacity, and you can spend gas to propel yourself forward in battle or release gas that poison everyone around you.
Assaying is just a fancy word for "analysis". It's a bit like assessing.

>I don't remember the Neleos fight being that hard
Heavily depends on how you start.

If you take the stimulant and pass the DEX/CS check to kill Neleos and Fulvio before the fight even starts, the fight is pretty easy. It's only you vs. Coltan and Agatai and you start in a much better position. Coltan dies like a fly to barbed bolts/crits and Agatai switches to his crossbow instead of doing much more harm with the sword.

If you don't take the stimulant and only kill Neleos with CS, the fight is much, much harder- you start with -10 HP because Neleos managed to stab you before dying, you start right next to Agatai so he has an easy time hacking you to pieces and Fulvio deals a lot of damage with the crossbow.

If you don't pass the CS check and Neleos is still alive, I imagine this would be pure hell. He has really high dodge and gets crits all the time.

Do the jacknife and huxkey bonuses sack in Underrail?

I ask because I have 108 lockpicking skills and if they stack then I could get to 130 with the +7 bonus from the jacknife and the +15 bonus from the huxkey. And as far as I know the hardest lockpicking check in the game requires 130 skill.

Speaking of obscure games, I tried a game called Automata or something.
Beyond the obvious eye candy of the protagonist who has a godly ass, I can't shake the feeling that I'm going to find something really nasty later in the game.
There are just too many elements that contradicts each others :
>2b says the androids are not supposed to have emotions
>yet her operator calls her crying after being rebuffed and has to be calmed down

>they say the Earth was overrun by robots
>yet rockets are seen leaving the Earth

>they say robots are hostile
>yet you find some trying to understand love in that pit, and the fair has robots trying to understand fun (couldn't attack any, by the way)

> as far as I know the hardest lockpicking check in the game requires 130 skill
Yeah. 135 is the hardest hacking check, but it only allows you to open one box with nothing interesting in it seconds befroe the end of the game.

You need pure 130 effective hacking (meannig without huxley/haxxors) to restore the backup version of IRIS though.
