The weapons considered good by good players, are good when used by good players. Just because PKCS is considered to be one of the best weapons in the game, doesn't mean you'll do better with PKCS than another build, because you have to be able to make use of the aspects which make it strong.
If you're bad at the game, you're probably going to get a lot more wins with PUGS L1s, Farron L1s, Ledos or stomping with FUGS, than you will with a weapon that's actually good.
You just won't... I mean you won't learn anything, or really get any better.

It's fine. For future reference you need to try and stay in front of the head so it doesn't turn. The fight is all about lining yourself up to get a proper punish after each attack, so if the host is running in circles the boss will just rotate during its recovery and the head can end up anywhere.
You don't have to be in its nostrils, just at that angle. You can be a good distance away.

Head takes double damage, and the front of the head is the best spot to both see and avoid each attack. It's a well designed dragon compared to the previous attempts. It might seem that you can get away with hugging the ankles for a while, but you'll struggle to see things like the lunge forward, and you'll prevent any summons from getting maximum head damage.

It started in Dwarf Fortress. A common newbie mistake was to let the game default to the basic loadout, which contained two cats. Having two cats would, at the time, eventually cause an exponential explosion of felines which you couldn't get rid of without making your dwarves suicidally depressed. 2 handed broadsword and mace with buffs is your bread and butter, should be able to go the whole way with them. Flynn's and the Lloyd's rings seem ideal too. Use a crossbow to pull mobs.

Shame you can't use pyromancies like in the previous games.

Anons, do you happen to know why Dark Souls II:SotFS is constantly disconnecting for me? I enjoy playing the game, I got it off monthly bundle and I'm not some die hard PvPer, but if I could choose, I'd rather take the whole game than just play in offline. Trouble is, I rarely stay connected to servers for over an hour. Sometimes it disconnects even after 10-15 minutes of gameplay.

I've just replayed Dark Souls 3 after getting a deal on the DLCs (haven't touched it for over half a year)

Just finished the main story and the first dlc, but I have a few questions:

1. what SL is meta nowadays? still 120?

2. I'm predominently playing quality builds, but I think I'll go full strength or dex for NG+, any recommendations?

3. ariandel was nice, but I still have to play through ringed city - anything I need to know? (I almost skipped the whole wolf boss area in ariandel because I didn't think of cutting down the bridge - don't want to miss anything)

4. are poise and armor still useless? (still feels they are)

There's a reason that the Vicars only existed at SL170. Doing almost any spellsword build requires you to put levels all over the fucking place, Str/Fai builds especially.

You need 60 Fai, the Att to back it up (at least 18 or 24), Str to wield your weapon of choice, End to swing your weapon more than twice, Vig to not die, and even Vit for strapping on armor for poise.

The thing is that most weapons that scale with Faith (and there are plenty where it isn't even worth it, like DSGA and Ornstein's spear) only get the most benefits up to 40 Faith, anything above that is for casting spells and buffing. But it's also pointless to stop at 40 Faith since most Miracles that scale will require 60 to get the most out of them, you went most of the way so may as well finish it.

If the weapon you want to use isn't even buffable, then just go for a Str or quality build.

Let me guess, you're thinking a hybrid build involving on physical and one magic stat is 40/60. 60 is the second softcap, that's what a pure magic build would have. The Aquamarine, Crescent Moon Sword, and Friede's Scythe would all work great, sharp weapons buffed with CMW would work similarly well as on a quality or Pure DEX build, and sorceries, while not as powerful as a pure INT build, would still have somewhat decent damage that would be made up for with stronger melee damage than a pure INT build.

You can hybrid build at 120 but you're always missing one or two softcaps.

120 in DS1 was:

>max end (40) for mid-roll on 40 load and 160 stamina

>40 in secondary stat (85% of scaling max)
>2 spell slots

Not to mention pyro, which was free for max casting, and chaos weapons that allowed you to vit gouge. SL120 builds in DS1 were hybrid versatile gods.

To accomplish that in DS2 you need:

>14 attn (2 spell slots)
>18 vit (58 load cap, mid roll on 40 load)
>40 end (160 stamina)
>60 in primary stat (85% scaling for strength)
>60 in secondary stat (~80-85% scaling for dex/int/fth)

which comes out to about SL167. You can get away with 40 instead of 60, or drop your endurance, but you'll be weaker than SL120 DS1.
On top of that, SL120 was chosen because in DS1, you would rarely/never see new players at those levels, meaning that you would only fight experienced/NG+ players at SL120. But with DS3, SL100 or higher is common for new players to be at for SoC or TRC, or even lothric castle if they grind.

In DS2 it's:

>60 end (160 stamina)
>13 vit (mid roll on 40 load)
>13 attn (2 spell slots)
>50 in primary stat
>50 in secondary stat
>29 adp (105 agility)
which comes out to about SL212. Concindentally, this is 4.4m SM which is right before the 5m softcap where you start matchmaking with much higher levels. SL212 gives you enough SM to cap out at 5m while still being able to buy most items in the game.

there's a softcap at 40, but it's not nearly as strong as it used to be. Especially because of sharp and heavy infusion (meaning every quality weapon can be single stat now) you can get solid gains all the way up to 66 or 80.

And there's little point in investing those points into hybrid casting because you need 60 int or fth and 2 rings just to get decent damage, so if you've capped what you need at SL80, might as well dump another 20-40 points into str/dex for SL120,

The Black K***ht weapons are, in essence, quality weapons that lean more towards Str. You can get away with just 24 Str for two-handing (27 or 34 for soft caps), but if you really want the most out of it you also need to level Dex.

If this is just going to be a PvE build then nothing's stopping you from just going well past SL120, but if you want the axe and hard-hitting lightning spells in PvP, you're out of luck.
