Large slot kinetics bring down the shields, then when in range the plasma melts the armor.

Horrible UI. Mods like Tiny and 1080p help immensely.
I tend to say that mods aren't mandatory, but when it comes to the stellaris UI I might make an exception.

Mechanically the development is pretty lackluster compared to every other 4x.
In theme and atmosphere it is alright.

In the game halfling slingers are even better than high elf longbowmen though.

At recruit level of experience Longbowmen deal slightly more damage, but halflings block more damage.
Every level after that and they deal equal amounts of damage, or the halflings start dealing more at the high levels.
Buffs also affect halfling slingers more than the others, since the halfling unit has 8 figures, while other archers have 6 figures, and if you boost a units attack by 1, you boost each figure in that units attack by 1.

>keep your hero in the army and search ruins until he hits level 2, then stick him in the capitol and never let him leave; you should be levelling up his FIDS skills and aiming for the "city ignores winter's effects" trait at the top of the common tree
>always parley with minor factions, if you get a really shitty quest out of them bribe them; burning the village down is a last resort, since it doubles the influence cost for converting them
>if you see another faction's borders with your first scouting preachers, WALK AWAY. the last thing you want is for another faction to know you exist while you're vulnerable
>build up a home army as soon as you can to guarantee your safety; fanatics are pretty much just a placeholder frontline if you don't have enough good beefy minor faction units, preachers should be given magewands and paired up with units that have all around high stats, and nameless guard are your DPS core
>assimilation bonuses are IMPORTANT! the three you want most of all are kazanji (+% influence), erycis (+movement speed), and tetikes (+vision range)
>INFLUENCE PRODUCTION IS IMPORTANT! the rate at which you can expand to grab villages, providing you with armies to defend yourself and strike out against rivals, is entirely reliant on your influence production
>RESOURCE TECHS ARE IMPORTANT! your converted villages will leech resources from their home regions, but only if you have the relevant techs for it! this is how cultists get pretty much all of their resources
>if you have shadows, SPYING IS YOUR WORST ENEMY! get security-boosting traits on your hero and research security-boosting buildings; the two worst things that could happen to you outside of a siege are being forced to round up your 60+ population or getting your only city sabotaged!

MoM knocked AoW2 out of my 3x3.
Give it a try when you have time to try a new 4x.
>>
>>179824863
i play a lot of cultists; if you've got everything down pat, it might be worth looking at advanced strategies (I.E. fitting an army with camouflage to instantly raze the opponent's capitol while your converted hordes are engaging their main forces, or using privateer tech to raise hell with the enemy)
just never underestimate how vulnerable you are; spies, hidden armies, and sieges can VERY easily be the death of you, so make sure you get your hands on true sight early (jf you're playing against forgotten or real players, because otherwise AI won't use camo)
>>
>>179825069
The first strategy game I ever played was Dune. The DOS version, who looks like some visual novel.

I have fond memories of it, despite it being linear as hell.
I do remember that if you don't rush to the Harakeen palace as soon as the battle is over, the fortress is turned into a sietch and everyone goes "I have nothing to say" and you can't finish the game.

Then I later learned the game had music and animated travel cutscenes with the ornithopter, while on my version it was silent and you just saw the desert under you.

building up armies early to guard them, or simply expanding towards villages farther from the prying eyes of other players; the greatest early-game tool the cultists have is hiding themselves

fanatics are there purely for the situation where you don't have any actual villages yet: they're cheap frontliners with well-rounded stats that have good synergy with preachers' +10% to all stats buff

if you're running into the situation where the harassment is too bad, remember that you can garrison troops in villages to defend them

not so much that as it is "only convert a village if i'm confident it won't be immediately burned down"

if you're drowning in influence or you're converting villages far from danger, there's no real downside to converting villages past the point where you can reliably protect them
even when you're close to other empires that you're at peace with or that aren't aggressive early on, it could be worthwhile to convert villages near them (though that is always risky)

as a rule, try to keep your villages separated from other factions by at least one region

Try it for yourself so you get an idea of how much of a shitty game ES2 is.

>not even Wiz here. He truly is a faggot.
>>
>>179834471
Ignore war altogether. Instead of building fleets to defend yourself, accept both tribute and diplomatic pressure demands (they're tiny anyways). Accepting them gives the Happy opinion modifier to AI and it's easy to sue for peace and make them Cordial afterwards. Even bribing Cravers to fuck off after they've already declared war is hilariously easy since the AI overvalues strategic and luxury resources even if it could just take all your systems.

Alternatively if you really need to wage war there's always Dictatorship where you can just choose the ruling party, or election actions in Federation and Republic. Both United Empire and Lumeris get an additional boost to their starting government types' election actions (the one that applies a penalty to everything but the chosen party is ridiculously powerful), making it easier to control militarist growth.

Wormholes are really only good for defensive play, they benefit slower starting economies (militarist, megacorporation).
They used to be super good but got nerfed into the ground. Would be nice if you could jump between Wormholed systems without them needing to be contiguous, to save on the upkeep of Wormhole Stations in stretches of useless space
>>
>>179837731

They werent nerfed that bad. Its just that Warp became OP as fuck (more speed and ships returning fire while on cooldown) while hyperspace got nerfed so hard it got scratched out completely.
>>
>>179838143
Warp isn't that OP, it's just the best all-rounder. It still hits hard when you've got to jump a Fleet across space and the total Cooldown time adda up to over a Year.
Can't say anything about Hyperlanes, but Warp is best early game and Wormholes best late-game, not including Jump Drives or Psionics.

If you have the autism to get Wormholes spaced correctly you basically have Sanic Warp Speed.

I was about to ask the same thing. How exactly does ship firing prioritization work in ES2? Bar flotillas where the ships will obviously fire in the opposite flotilla first. I know there's both certain classes focus firing other classes, but also "increased chance to be targeted" support modules.

Is everything % chance of picking certain ships? Or is it strict where the ships will *always* focus down the classes they're supposed to attack first and the said module only takes effect if there's two or more similar hull type ships in target priority list in the same opposing flotilla?

I'm wondering how good it'd be to have one big protector ship focused on tanking for each flotilla and just shittons of of squishy attacker ships with weapon and support modules (for DMG and CRIT bonuses).

First and foremost. Range is key. Not sure if you are using flotila in a sense of fleet or in a sense of battlegroup.

If fleet, than they were probably just out of range due to positioning. If battle group - that's weird need details.

In short:
Ships always target their direct opponent flotilla first.
Ships will only hit things they can reach.
Targeting priority has element of chance that can be altered with support modules.I don't know exact numbers.
Swords hit shields, than swords, than carriers.
Shields hit swords, than shields, than carriers.
Carriers are irrelevant. Aka I don't remember but I think they behave like swords

>I'm wondering how good it'd be to have one big protector ship focused on tanking for each flotilla and just shittons of of squishy attacker ships with weapon and support modules (for DMG and CRIT bonuses).
Don't quote me on this but from expirience, if there is something that can be easily blown up, such as a patrol ship in an attacker swarm, It WILL be blown up. This is based on anecdote evidence, take with salt.

>>179844910
the game uses Flotilla to refer to what you're calling battlegroups.

In this case I had one Tool ship in each flotilla, meaning that they should be the prime target, but instead the enemy ships targeted my Imposer.

The only thing I could think of is maybe it was an enemy carrier? I think it says that it's priority is enemy carriers, and then attack craft? But this was pretty early in the game.
>>
>>179848257
I think the real reason is beams.
If enough beam ships make it into range then it's not really going to matter what they target anyway, everything is going to die.
>>
>>179848570
That was the other thing. That battle was also where I realized that you can see enemy ship's range efficiency.

And since right now the Sophon's seem to be going all in on beams, I've just been making long range craft.

So what game would you fellas say is the best 4X experience, overall? I've never really explored (hah) this genre much, but I've always been meaning to try it, because I like the idea of every game being different.

I don't mind dated graphics at all. Type of setting doesn't matter either. I'm also very much open to mods and stuff.

Does it boil down to quality of the AI? I've seen Let's Plays of Civ 6 and the AI seems pretty terrible, even at the highest difficulty. Any games where they aren't completely pants-on-head retarded?

Imo Master of Magic gives the best 4x experience.
I think that the insecticide patch has some AI improvements, I tried it for the first time around christmas. I didn't play back to back with unmodded games though so not entirely sure.

Often in 4x games you can learn tactics or tricks that help you play around the AI of the game, so you don't really face it head on.
Examples could be exploits like the selling a world to a isolationist FE in stellaris in a few patches pack, or back in 1.2 I had a corvette go back and forth between two systems, so the AI sent their fleet to attack the corvette, then when my corvette left the system, they went back the other way to take care of something else, then that went on repeat while I took their allies worlds with my main fleet.
I think some ship designs in stellaris have also made the AI a non issue in some versions, like tachyon destroyers and tachyon battleships in one update, naked corvette spam now.
In other games like civ5 and civ6 if you have a good tactical mind you can abuse the AI in combat by never losing troops and destroying all its armies in chokepoints, while in civ4 you could get a doomstack going that they couldn't beat.
Civ2 AI isn't better, but it doesn't get trapped in the same way due to there being no 1upt, and no doomstack that it can't beat. It still can get lured, for example I've put a battleship on the same tile as 4 AEGIS cruisers, the AI hates battleships and sends Cruise MIssiles at them, the problem is that when the cruise missile attack into the tile with the battleship, it fights the strongest unit in that tile, which is one of the AEGIS cruisers which get combat bonuses vs cruise missiles. I've seen the AI send 30+ cruise missiles in a single turn. The next turn I just moved my ships in and repaired them for no cost.

I guess 7M Autocannons/flak or whatever, 1S autocannon and then the H slot for a strike craft as PD. 1L kinetic battery.
More tracking than a cruiser, the loss of evasion doesn't matter against the corvettes, more health.

Or maybe broadside core to get rid of the hangar and just go with a few more L slots, and the medum slots on flak.

the issue i'm having: do i keep their giant population (they've got like 10 colonies, each with decent population) as utterly broken, overworked slaves for the insane technology cost reduction while they watch me turn their worlds to barren husks, or do i reduce them all to nutrient paste for being sophons?

That doesn't really matter, it's that the section with the most medium slots comes with a H slot, so the issue was what could be done with it, not if it can be replaced with a Flak, which it can't since they occupy different slots.

So what's the final verdict of Endless Space 2?
I HATED the first game but LOVED Endless Legend.

I played one game as the Cravers. I won one battle and then steamrolled with how powerful having a high level hero was over your opponent.
Never in any other 4X game had I gotten to the monotonous psuedo-employment stage of pressing end turn as fast as possible.
The aesthetic is nice, I just couldn't find it within myself to give a single fuck about what was going on.
There's no dramatic quests or terrible threat(beyond AI handicaps), the planets look great but they don't really matter.

I fucking adore the Necrophage quest in Endless Legend more than any other and while I understand Endless Legend is supposed to reference but not make direct contact with the Endless Space stuff, but comparing the trials of a single light of inquisitive sapience in a pit of instinct as it comes to understand and accept its own existence, promising to survive and excel at their intended task far and above what their selfish creators desired, to the point that they can feel nothing but regret: Is a little bit better than we wuz weapons n' sheeeit.

Yeah I'm not adverse to the fact, I just adore how the Necrophage leader comes to that realization and accepts it part way through. It feels like a deep and difficult decision and it has that dichotomy of being both able and unable to empathize with.

It's more about how a tool feels being a tool.

From what I've caught of the Cravers in Endless Space 2 it's just a tool thinking about tool stuff, and whether or not it'd fit their design to consume even their former masters and shit.

The Necrophages do embrace it, it just feels like an interesting decision with reasons for it, where the Cravers it's just a foregone conclusion.

>>179875043
I dunno man, I haven't pirated any vidya in quite awhile. I fucking can't bring myself to play much these days. I'm probably depressed or some shit. The most I can bother is something like Day of Infamy so that my team can win and I'll be on top of the scoreboard and I'll feel content for a bit.

I'll still play shit, like I spent eight hours playing Starsector into the night yesterday. It's just the starting the game up part that is hard. That's why I asked about Endless Space 2, if it'll grab me as quickly as Endless Legend.
I say I'll buy it when it's on sale later on because there will be more time for the game to be polished and because I don't lack the money to buy. Most of the piracy I've done in the past was when I couldn't buy something, or I REALLY hate the publishers.
>>
>>179875469
Without spoiling too much. You get a chance to revive a virtual endless. Than you get a decision to make about how to react to it's orders.
>>
>>179875608
I've been exposed to that spoiler here already, don't worry, that is what I was referring to with the third line of my post. Though I only know it happens, not how well they communicate the Cravers actually making the decision.
>>
>>179875728
More importantly Cravers aren't the only race present in ES2. For example Riftborn quest, file fairly straightforward narratively, goes to great lengths to show how alien everything is to them
>>
>>179875897
Yeah for sure, they interest me as well. I don't mean to say I'd only play Cravers, just that I feel the Necrophage/Craver difference is typical of the quality difference between Endless Legend and Endless Space I expect.
>>
>>179876010
ES1 was an attempt to create a 4x by fairly new and inexperienced studio. If they were to start with EL and than make ES, I suspect your opinion would be exact opposite. Judging a game based on it's predecessor is a bit of a fool''s errand. Especially so given that true predecessor to ES2 is not ES but EL. It takes a lot, and I do mean a lot, of lessons from it and adds new interesting features on top of them, like politics and tactics. Tactics by the way, and combat in general, have as much to do with ES1 as they do with any other space 4x. That is to say jack and shit. They are kinda brilliant in that they provide a way to let player have meaningful control of the battle, but without making him do it step by step.

The game is definitely pushed out under cooked tho, but that's mostly in the bugs department. It's feature set is pretty impressive otherwise.
>>
>>179876305
Yeah for sure, I understand the reason for Endless Space's failings and the second game SHOULD be really well done after they made Endless Legend of all things.

I think another reason I dislike 4X through Endless Space's lens is that you don't see anything of a faction beyond the diplomacy screen sprite, and the ships. Whereas in Endless Legend you see their growing cities and their people in general and in combat. It feels so much more in depth. That is a failing of the genre more so than of a game though.
>>
>>179876595
Matter of taste. For me when it comes to immersion as it pertains to interesting races in strategy games the key point is not visuals but unique techs that reflect the races charachter. That's why despite barely having any story at all I think SotS has brilliantly unique and diverse factions. And on that score ES2 delivers. Tho Amplitude's rather peculiar sense of humour, is as ever on display.

Vassalisation is set when you declare war, as a wargoal.

You can't set a wargoal if it would require over 100 war score.

Large empires usually require over 100 warscore to vassalise.

Unless you've set the vassalisation wargoal when you declare war, you can't vassalise them regardless of what happens during the war.

>>
>>179883962
Rushing a first ark and parking it in an other faction's home system works very well. Then you build nothing but leeches and start vampiring everything, which will allow you to start expanding
>>
>>179882815
If you get full butt buddies with the Unfallen they don't convert your systems despite entwining them and you can freely enjoy the benefits. The percentage does rise, but what it does in practice is only reducing the cost of the influence buyout, and the "natural" conversion happens automatically to everyone when their systems are under another empire's influence zone and they have the right tech. However it never automatically does the last push to full conversion unless you have the end tier religious law active which makes it automatic.

>>179883962
From the lower tech tree, research the Ark module that gives flat industry bonus and additional % industry. Fill all your arks with nothing but them on support slots.
Pump out leechers (you might want to swap leech modules with one or two speed modules) and remove leecher modules from your actual battle ships that fight and protect leecher ships.
Retrofit your arks as needed: when you want to move them lots of speed modules, when you actually use them as systems have lots of industry modules.
You might want to use your second ark as a battle ship to protect leechers: park it on top of minor faction or even major empire's system, because it's pretty much indestructible in early game.
There's literally no limit to how much you can leech from one system, so once you find a good system to leech you can spam it with leech ships.
>>
>>179883962
Turn one replace science and dust modules. If you have 3 planets that you can get techs for in home system or nearby than replace them with an essence generating modules. If only two than industry ones. Than build boats. Gather essence build more boats. When you get industry buildings worth building than build them, after that, back to boats. Do this untill you have 3 arks with 2 pops each. Than start playing like a normal faction. Pick related is my pirate hunter of preference for very early game. Replace it with Gouge asap.

>>179884273

It can be fun when it pays off, or it can end your run.
>>
>>179884518

How ? You only need a minor civ not too far to get that first ark, and then there is nothing an other faction except maybe cravers can do against it in early game. You can get it in 10 turns

>>
>>179884645

All you need for that to happen is a player ready to counter you or a particulary war minded AI like carvers riftborn or imperials picking the right strategy/tactics. Arks are good on paper but they are very much paper tigers when it comes to combat. They die to a well designed 7 ship fleet.
>>
>>179884440
>There's literally no limit to how much you can leech from one system
You mean in quantity per turn, right ? Because when pop hits 0 it's over
>>
>>179884762
>They die to a well designed 7 ship fleet
Yeah maybe I haven't played enough but you really need a good start to have a 7 ship fleet ready at turn 25
>>
>>179884892
Not really. It depends on a faction. Some, like the vodyani themselves would struggle to get one. Others do so easily. All you need is a couple system with 1-2 temperate or furtile planets in them. And you are set.

I am not saying that Ark rushes are a bad strategy. Just that it's an all in. You either get amazing benefits or you get fucked.
>>
>>179884664
>So the "conversion" is basically toothless if we're friends? Until he gets that end-game tech that is. That's good to know
Yeah, the vines actually give you beneficial bonuses and are good provided you decide to stay in good terms with them. However for the purpose of conversion you've probably already seen that the Unfallen don't generate influence bubbles, but all entwined systems are considered under their "bubble". The actual conversion ability has to be unlocked from left side tech tree, and even if they do unlock it and you'll see the conversion % on your systems rising, if you're allied with them and they'll like you enough they're not going to try to fuck you over because the actual system buyout that finally converts the system requires conscious action on the part of the converter: either spending influence to "buy" the system or having a certain religious law active that makes it free and automatic.

This of course mostly applies to Unfallen AI that doesn't like to betray, against actual human player Unfallen people would probably be too paranoid to trust them.

>That one seems really fucking lame, even compared to the research boost.

Tile blockers are the worst.

Having to research tile blocker removal is suicide tier.

Having to pay to remove tile blockers is a huge drain in the early game.

The more planets you colonise the better it gets.
>>
>>179886750
>colonise, build mines and power plants

This is pretty much it.

If you're having trouble with the game then use empire:
* Authoritarian & Xenophobic
* Caste System on everyone.
* Extremely Adaptive & Strong
* Mining & Slavery Guilds
* Kinetic weapons & hyperspace (so you don't get screwed by Warp limitations or get your wormhole stations killed)

Focus on surveying planets above everything, and expand hard from the outset.

Just keep an eye on your neighbours and try to keep your fleet as big as possible (literally just basic kinetic corvettes) as much as your energy can support.
>>
>>179886750
This covers the technical "how do I get more minerals and energy" but does nothing for aiding me in making any decisions about say, extra science vessel or earlier colony ship at the start, actually choosing which planets to colonize, how much to develop a planet before saving for the next colonization, etc.

It also doesn't give me any semi-generic detail/goals for evaluating how well I am doing at expanding.

>>179887148
[Authoritarian] - Slavery Guilds
Extremely Adaptive - Decadent - (whatever the fuck migration time/cost one is?) seem really strong overall.

Materialist and spiritualist spectrum is the only axis I'm really conflicted about. Pacifist 1 seems quite good while either militarist option is difficult to replace.
>>
>>179886464

The very first step is to grab the mining stations. Build also energy ones as necessary while ignoring research (those cost you energy and are not that useful in the beginning).

Build a forward outpost if you have to, should a cluster be rich in minerals. Apart from that is colonize and conquer.
>>
>>179887714

Materialist is only really useful if you either pick mechanist of technocracy. Militarist is always useful though.
>>
>>179887917

>*mechanist or technocracy
>>
>>179887714
You can't really set goals for expanding in my opinion. The 'goal' I usually set for myself is to establish and maintain martial superiority, so that I can enforce my weaker economy by taking planets from other. Generally speaking, if you're going for the 'true wide', get every planet with a yellow habitability and at least 15 tiles; otherwise, go for bigger than 18. Should a planet be green, go for it immediately. I always have 3-4 science ships up ASAP, because surveying is vital to everything.

As for Ethics, Militarist trumps almost everything and is useful in every situation. The main point is between Spiritualist and Materialist, as going either locks down an Ascension Path. Spiritualists cannot build Robots and therefore cannot use the Synthetic Ascension. Materialists cannot get the Psionic Theory technology, and therefore cannot use the Psionic Ascension. You should factor this in if you've already decided on an Ascension Path.

>>
>>179887714
the first thing I build is a second science ship, literally before I unpause the game. Prioritise mining stations, dont worry about research station yet, and only build energy stations when you require them, ie at zero energy. Don't upgrade any building to tier 2 for quite a while, the extra minerals/energy isn't worth it compared to another tier 1 mine/plant, and don't waste minerals building stuff if you haven't got the pops to work them. This is basic very early game stuff.

Wiz is still in charge, but based on their structure, he's not really responsible for this fuck up. Wiz just writes their shitty events (or gets other people to write the good ones).

Jamor is the Project Lead who figures out how to get the work of the creative director done. Between Jamor. the technical lead (no idea who that is) who is meant to NOT fuck up games with patches, and whoever at Paradox Publishing who decides QA is unimportant and their patches can go live untested those guys are responsible.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT.

I want to conquer the universe and ether turn it barren with robots or eliminate all other species for my one true masterrace.

Tips on how to do that? With unfallen, once the carvers immigrated I realized that I couldn't genocide them like in stellaris. I guess I can export them to a small colony then just abandon and resettle it, but that takes time and is frustrating.

Are the dust dominatrixes the only ones who do the pure species thing? I have no idea how to play them.
>>
>>179902412
Stellaris Factions are generated awfully. I once played Fanatic Purifiers and out of the blue my Ruler started a Xenophile faction which 7 pops immediately joined. To answer your question, the only thing you need to do is embrace a faction to switch to that faction's ethic, immediately disabling Fanatic Purifiers.
>>
>>179905647
>embrace a faction to switch

Not really as easy as that, they need to be 20% of your population and I highly doubt a fanatic purifier would easily attain that, they'd have to be very small and friendly with xenos (impossible).

Let's be honest though, the whole faction system is utter garbage and adds nothing but frustration to a game with countless frustrating mechanics as is.
>>
>endless space 2

>>
>>179905919
probing manually is the best part
>>
>>179905783
Fair enough, but we're talking about AI here. It's possible they used some hamfisted way to shift ethics, possibly getting rid of Fanatic Purifiers altogether by reforming the government or something.
>>
>>179905585
>Tips on how to do that?
Score and Dust victories are bullshit and if you lost to that I have no sympathy for you not disabling them.
>>
>>179906351

Takes 20 years from the start of the game to reform civics so I guess they coulda dropped FP then made some friends. If they didn't genocide anybody before dropping FP, then yeah I could see how they could become friends with xenos then switch. FP seems like a civic that shouldn't be changeable like mechanist, imo.
>>
>>179901764
>Also, the bonus research from eating people doesn't work at all.
If it did, and the did change it so you could cull every now and then I think maybe they could decrease the society gain if you've already culled the planet once if it really needed to be balanced.

Would be neat and horrifying if you could find a primitive world, cull them, genemod them to become rapid breeders, then let them be.
Years pass and they spread over the planet and then you descend upon them again.

I suppose you could argue that, that is what you are doing while you're studying primitives from an orbital as a devouring swarm.
>>
>>179905919
There's strategy to choosing when and which planet to probe because probes are limited resources so it can't be automated. Exploration is just fire and forget.

It should be reworked entirely, along with the AI's retarded tendency to crowd up in Federations for no reason at all. Fanatic Purifiers or not, you always end up with at least 5 different NATO's across the galaxy, and 33% extra damage and fire rate is not enough to offset that.
>>
>>179908025
>I want to play genocidal maniac but AI's ally eachother to protect themselves.

I think stellaris is a bad game and playing it is a form of self-harm but your post's retarded, mate.
>>
>>179908025

Increasing the base value of "ask to join federation/invite to federation" from -50 to -80 was the greatest thing I ever did. Same for defensive pacts. Now people only federate with their bestest buds.
>>
>>179908537

Did you reply to the wrong person?

If you mean the other guy above, you can't federate as a fanatic purifier. That's where the 33% fire rate comes from, and he's just shit, it's more than enough.
>>
>>179908025
Why wouldn't they federate? The whole idea of an alliance is to help each other so no one can bully them. Maybe you should join a federation yourself if you're having such a hard time. This is like worst corea whining he can't bomb Germany because of NATO intervention.

>>
>>179906497
>Score and Dust victories are bullshit
Now I agree that Economy victory is balanced like shit, but the game never goes on for 200 turns unless you disable pretty much every single victory type. Even Science and Wonder are easily doable around 120 provided you decide your preferred victory early and plan ahead.
>>
>>179909658
I think Science, Economy and Wonder are equally easy. The only win conditions that are anywhere near fun in the game are supremacy and conquest. if you hit a score victory w/o disabling every other type you are doing something wrong imo.
>>
>>179908989
>no necessity for it to do so
What constitutes a necessity for having an alliance for you? The game just doesn't tell the player WHY they are doing stuff but they do have understandable reasons for it.

Shit, if I saw a giant fucking blob eating smaller blobs, I'd fucking join a big ass federation quick. I'm guess the AI does this too, at least it seems so in my game.

Best is the one that counters opponent. Most dps heavy is beams, most cheesy are rockets. Both are easily counterable, but are extremely deadly if left unchecked. The other two about even. Lasers are slightly better in that shields are a finite resource, railguns are about even in that they counter rockets.
>>
>>179912341
whatever t2/t3 you get from scanning anomalies. If you don't get anything good go with whatever resource is more in abundance and adjust your battle tactics accordingly.
I like to go kinetics because you need shitton of hyperium for fleet speed modules.
>>
>>179912341
Depends on what your heros have desu. If you are vodyani for example, the bonuses to damage mean that you can ignore your opponents attempting to counter you.
>>
>>179912629
How are rockets cheesy?

AFAIK:
>Lasers: Long range good dps, or short range only great dps
>kinetics: better at shorter ranges, but also soft-counter missiles
>Missiles: ???

defense:
>Armor: Just adds HP and reduces % damage from bullets
>Shields: Just adds HP and reduces % damge from lasers
>nothing defends against missiles?

How wrong am I?
>>
>>179913002
missles are long and medium only and kinetics can shoot them down. hull defends against missles.
>>
>>179913002
>How are rockets cheesy?
They are by far the easiest way to deal damage w/o taking much in return. They have second best dps in the game on top of that. They are quite useful if you are fighting pirates with patrol ships for example. I once had a vodyani patrol ship kill a fleet of 3 pirate vessels because of how easily they take out enemies who don't have good point defense.

>>
>>179914340
I've been playing on endless in 1.0.11 since the preview and it works. If you're using the resource-based missles they have much higher projectile health and for whatever reason the AI won't just try to hard counter you by only building kinetics. 22cp corvettes work much better as lasers though since lasers cannot be destroyed mid flight. Get a Vodyani hero or one of those pilgrim ones with Red Zone Overkill and it's gg.

I still think the root problem is that the AI is shit at ship design and fleet composition even on endless. I feel like the new patch didn't really change much

It depends on the situation. If by space domintrixies you mean Vodyani than yeah, about 2-to-1 mix of long and short range lasers is the best option when lead by heroes.

When not led by heroes, the question becomes far more complicated.

>>179914735
>If you're using the resource-based missles
Yeah, that would do it.Resource based missiles require resource based counter, and AI sadly ain't that good. Hope they will fix it with time.

Apparently depletion affect only species that use it as a way to give planets a short term boost. I always assumed it came at a price of long term damage, but apparently - not. What a pity.

>>
>>179929042

Utopian living is only an additional 10% happiness.

Depending on the race you conquer, it's 2 factors deciding happiness

>Conquer species who enslaves its own: gain emancipation bonus on some pops, no 'recently conquered' bonus

else

>Gain -40% happiness on newly conquered pops for 10!!!! years

Base happiness being 50, and, if they are of a certain ethos, they will join/form a faction that may reduce their happiness even further, going below 0%, making the 20% from Utopian living utterly fucking useless.

I also agree with what you said. Caste systems are by far the best imo. Just a shame you can't be democratic for the free influence, but due to being able to actually control factions you gain more passive influence.

Quick rundown:
>Paradox raised the prices of all their games a week ahead of the steam sale (as much as 50% increase in some cases)
>Removed features in game and repacked them in a new dlc you had to buy to get the utility back.
>Charging $10 for a handful of poorly drawn buttons and cheat buffs for an already overpowered nation.
>They refuse to bundle their dlc so your forced to buy it separately at full price.
>Paradox went public in the stock market a while back and now their dlc quality is dropping like a brick.
>People are angry and taking it too paradox in the steam forums causing them to lock some of the threads as "off topic".
>EU4 rating has dropping from overwhelmingly positive to mostly negative.

So I started on my new game. I created a race of Xenophobic militaristic materialists. Gave them mechanists and their theme is building big no mater the cost or risk. I was almost boxed in by THREE faggots that all rivaled me the second they saw me. The purple fags Orange fags an blue fags. The tribunal up north luckily likes me since orange and blue are their rivals. On my first three planets including my home world I got betharian ore so luckily my energy isn't tanking to hard. But to keep up my fleet and to lock out Purple I have to keep expanding which is really draining my fucking resources. ALL of my fucking space born resources are fucking minerals I have multiple 9+ mineral systems which is nice and is keeping me going. All this though and Orange is still "Overwhelming" Blue is "Superior" Purple is not much of a threat any more but their ships could easily tip the balance if they war at the same time as another.

Wish me luck on my first Insane game bros.

Most Alien nests are located on Firaxite nodes.

Whats funny is that the Supremacy tree relies on Firaxite as its main resource. Even more interesting is that both Harmony and Purity call you abominations or twisted, and your main goal is to essentially conquer earth.

Which begs the question, does Firaxite make you evil?

Is that why the aliens were building their nests on it?

Not to protect it per se, but to protect YOU from it?

Quarians created sentient AI, tried to destroy them and got genocided in turn and became travelling space jews. Their only similarity with the Vodyani is nomadic lifestyle.

Vodyani discovered relics of ancient civilization, ascended their physical forms to become magic vampires, started worshiping said ancients as gods and consider themselves master race who have every right to kill and leech the lifeforce of other races and convert the few worthy individuals into said space vampires as well. Their heroes also live side by side their gods, that's why every one of them has "Saint" in their name because there's a living Virtual inhabiting their suits.

If anything you could blame Amplitude for Vodyani being nu-Broken Lords. Broken Lords have similar backstory (deteriorating planet forcing them to abandon their flesh forms), except Broken Lords resent themselves for having to leech others and want to cling onto their honor as lords of the Amber Plains. Vodyani in turn embrace their change and go full "praise be Virtual Endless and death to all infidels" (actual line in-game).

Whats the point of Chemical Bliss in Stellaris? The only way I can think of using it is to "humanely" purge species by making them happy until your boot kicks in their door and you throw them into a meat grinder. Only problem with that is any empire that's doing that wont have problems from slave unhappiness and any empire that would care enough wouldn't purge.
>>
>>179943079

>>
>>179943079

I recently (as a fan materialist synth ascendant) conquered a spiritualist FE who immediately founded a religious faction, obviously 0% faction happiness, then there was the -40% recently conquered happiness, putting them at around -70%. Chemical bliss would have helped since recently conquered lasts 10 years and that's the period of time it takes to change a policy.

How the fuck are you suppose to play civ 5? I play on Emperor and everything just devolves into spamming wonders with my 2-4 cities I manage to make. Civ 5 BNW has really devolved into a meta cancer where all you do are build and then rapidly optimize 4 cities, and whoever specializes the fastest wins.

You need mods to get anything remotely interesting out of it.

Well that's a shame. I really hate the faith mechanic along with world congress. The first one isn't fun to micromanage or have 100000 priests come to your cities every turn and the latter is just broken and makes you have to fight city states eventually. Really hoped there'd be something to remedy that. I would not miss city-states being phased out nor the caravan system. It never feels good to waste 3-7 turns pumping out a caravan just for +3 gold and 1 science and needing to waste 3-9 turn to make that +3 turn into +5. I swear BNW was 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Yeah, every planet you owned spawns a Manifestation, while your homeworld spawns the Reckoning, supposedly the collective psionic might of your former empire. The Reckoning powers up with every 200 pops it consumes, as if it wasn't the most difficult opponent yet. Some of them stat out with a good setting or storyline and fuck bu trying to make everything seem bigger than it has to be like attack on titan for example.

If the AI can get them too, it's not cheating.
It's only cheating if it's exclusive to one player.

It may be unabalanced.

Oh man. Entire galactic community is flipping their shit because of "terror bombing".

How do you fix the miniaturized portrait bug?
Changing the scaling to 2.0 doesn't solve it.

Are torpedo corvettes good at the start? I decided to pick missiles for once but am surrounded by militarists and xenophobes. I have t2 torpedoes though and I don't think many would have PD.

Why are my people always so unhappy when I play United Empire? I never have this problem with Lumeris.

Torpedoes are only good against large ships and structures. They have fuck-all tracking and move super slow so when the fights are all corvette swarms torpedoes are useless.

Only reason to rush their research is if you want to be able to take out spaceports with less casualties early on.

Lumeris have +20 approval on all systems by default.

Okay, nevermind. I don't actually know her.

Also, autosage, I'll make the new thread!

Okay, sounds like I REALLY have to make that new thread.
Gimme a few minutes to check if there's any new things to add besides the tags.

In /rsg/ people can be screaming about a new thread on page 2 and it won't be made till the end of page 10
>>
>>179981673

Spider anon only does that to incentivize other people into making a new thread.
