So why are such things as the Hunter's Coat (much bulkier than BOS uniform), Army Fatigues, fucking Baseball Uniform, and the Mechanist's Armor ballistic weave viable? Institute has teleporation, which makes getting to their base easier then any other, not to mention synth relay grenades.

BoS has fucking vertbirids which you can use to travel places and rain down death from above.

Minutemen have artillery, and when you build multiple in the same area, they can do some pretty good damage

It was neat but definitely makes the Enclave guys too strong too fast.
Actual spoilers ahead. You end up reclaiming an oil rig, fighting a fucking shitload of brotherhood knights on a few separate locations for quests, then raiding a brotherhood missile silo and destroying the prydwen. All in the span of 7 quests. I have yet to discover what kind of late game bugs destroying the prydwen so early will inevitably cause.

Teleportation that is only as useful as fast travel is, which unless something has changed is still something that is completely gimped in Survival mode, and grenades one can only get rarely that summon crummy meatshields.

The vertibirds also require one to be outside and require the player to rely on the AI to participate in combat in aid of the player, and doesn't work outside of the Commonwealth. Plus both the Minutemen and the RR can obtain the use of Vertibirds if you destroy the BoS.

Ther artillery is also a case of something that requires the player to be outdoors and they also do not work outside of the commonwealth. Also you forgot about the flare gun which is hilariously crappy, and both of these items require extensive use of the settlement system to even work.

The RR by comparison, give you roughly 40% extra armor for both energy and ballistic resistances when one is using full polymere upgraded heavy combat armor and roughly the same for Synth heavy armor. And this is the math for when one is completely bare headed. Sticking a ballistic weave hat on pretty much doubles one's armor rating over a maxed out set of heavy combat/synth armor with a helmet.

Really the other factions just got jack shit on the RR as far as upgrades go.

Yeah, it goes from 0 to 100 real fucking fast. You also get an FEV sample and they want to make a strain that will kill all mutants but leave normal people alive, the one Dr. they have working on the project gets it nearly finished within a day or some shit.
I'm still playing the character I did the quest with but haven't touched any content from it in a while.

It added a few new vertibird paint jobs as well, so you can choose which one shows up when you throw a signal grenade. And it adds and Enclave faction paint for X-01 that looks nice. So those two features are good.

When I get bored of this character I'll uninstall the mod for sure, unless he makes some serious improvements to it.

People have positive and negative responses to waifuposting, and both are entertaining and fun. I also really enjoy when people headcanon a bit and make up stories for their character and their playthrough so I am trying it.

I don't think you know the differences between the engines.

Creation 1 and Creation 2 are fundamentally the same architectures with a few tweaks and changes here and there, which are both based on Gamebryo tech.

Gamebryo is a completely different engine architecture to Creation, Bethesda's in-house software (that may or may not contain code directly copied from Gamebryo but shhh).

It's why modders were able to make mods for Fallout 4 with TESVEdit.

Get Sexout Core, SexoutSexLite, and Unethical Deeds EE. Covers basically everything you need. MCM adjustable settings, dialogue based sexual encounters, and combat result sexual encounters (like a setting in UD is if you reach X HP threshold, your character surrenders, and then any enemies stop getting aggro, gather, and rob your character and rape them. You can aslo scare fleeing enemies to submit, and then rape them, and if you have slave collars you can enslave them, stuff them in a backpack, and carry them around to sell or use as a toy later). It also has a feature where companions, after so long fighting and travelling, will ask if you want to bang. And it's all toggleable, so it can be all turned completely off or on whenever.

Personally, while I like most of the features of JSawyer.esp, I've had hard times getting it to work nicely with other mods (atleast a few years ago). So since then I mainly use Project Nevada for balance overhaul, with several of my own tweaks. But purely as a rebalance overhaul, JSawyer is generally regarded as the best, although it's not always the most compatibility-friendly. The newer "JSUE" I'm not a fan of because it adds a metric ton of small mods that aren't bug fixes, and while some are neat, a lot of them are frivolous in my opinion, and I haven't been in any mood to dig through that mod tweaking it. I got PN and various other stuff tweaked to my liking so I'll just stick with that.

Creation Engine 1 was less buggy but limited because of the Console architecture and 32bitLanguage, one of the main reasons of why skyrim had problems on PC's and PS3, the good side is that they had a bit of help coming from Id at Texas when they were working on IdTech 6

CE2 is Fo4 And now SkyrimSE, same architecture as CE1, but more polished and made with the help of Crytek guys and Id, who latter worked on IDTech6 for Doom, and working with the most recent Windows and CPU architectures, it still have some problems but those can be worked without stress, The only problem is that Both CE engines were Havok.

CE3, Unknown but Bethesda now have Id a and the former Cryengine 1 devs and lead to help them

As we see in The Pitt DLC, humans had been alrgely replaced with Mr Handy and Protectron robot workers before the war.

The problem with skill checks is that there is largely little if any real reason to have them in a modern game.

Skill checks, as a game mechanic, served to abstract physical and knowledge based activated.

Perception checks for spotting traps, agility checks for outrunning a boulder, "Region lore" checks to spout off some bit of trivia about the region.

While these made sense back in the old days where RPGs where mostly sprites, in the modern day, with full 3d modeling, and the ability to control your character, psychical based skill checks have been made obsolete.

Likewise, knowledge based skill checks existed because, in older RPGs, there was no way to get information to the player besides through dialogue, since the large system of books, notes, codex entries, email, or w/e, didn't exist due to limitation of programming.

However, since these do now exist, most knowledge based checks are pointless, since you can now just read a book to get the same information. This also eliminated HUGE amounts of dialogue from newer RPGs, since NPCs no longer need to spoon feed you ever detail about a world your character would already know about from living in that world their whole life but that they are telling you anyways for the sake of the player.

Then these is the problem that skill checks(outside of speech checks) fundamentally devalue the speech skill, whose only real purpose is to pass speech checks.

Shit like in New Vegas where you have to have 25/30 explosive skill to get Easy Pete to give you dynamite to defend Goodsprings are nonsensical situations, since you can ONLY get it from having that explosives skill level, and no amount of speech, even if you have 100 speech and can convince Lanius to stand down from the war, will get Easy Pete to change his mind.

This is why basically every modern RPG, both good and bad, from Deus Ex, to Witcher, to Mass Effect and Dragon Age, to Skyrim, and Fallout 4, only have basic speech checks.

I'm the Cow Cow poster on /mbg/. I think a Fallout universe game in the M&B system would fit very well. It would have aspects of the classic game, traversing a large relatively empty gameworld, with interesting locations and encounters happening on more detailed localized scenes. Not saying that NV doesn't have plenty of issues with it's mechanics, you're wrong and completely biased to suggest that builds in NV have to be combat-primary focused. Most of the game can be solved through charisma, smarts, and stealth, without the need for direct violence. Obviously going in guns/blades/fists blazing is often the fastest and most direct solution, because the game is an action RPG made for console clods like yourself, but that doesn't mean combat is a primary character focus by any means. Even in FO3 there were plenty of quests that didn't require direct combat. FO4, there is a handful at best, but even so moving anywhere in the Commonwealth Wasteland is a firefight as every other block is a new encampment of always-hostile NPCs or creatures.

So it goes back to the original point, that builds in a way are meaningless in FO4. You'll always be a Pre-War Wasteland ass-kicker looking for their child and bringining the light of civilization to the waster barbarians. I also say this as someone who generally likes the FO4 skill/perk system (although it can use a major overhaul).

Sure you can, because many RPGs, even many older RPGs, had little no to actual skill checks.

Skill checks were created for the D&D tabletop game as a means to abstract knowledge, and physical action, that were obviously impossible to actually have when playing due to the characters not actually being existent, not actually being controllable, and you not actually knowing everything that a character who exists in the world would know due to you not actually being a person in that world.

Many early CRPGs had these same abstractions, because graphics, controls, and means to present information, where very limited due to technology.

But in modern games
-There are no need for perception checks since everything can be 3d modeled and placed on the screen for the player to see

-There is no need for agility checks, since the player can now control their character fine enough to outrun something

-There is no need to strengh checks, since games are no longer so limited as to having to just punch or lift things, and devs can now make puzzled based situations where you need to find items x, y, and z, to pry open a door, or lift a blockage in your path

-And when it comes to checks of knwoedlge, the mass prolfieration of books, notes, terminals, email, codex entries, and other things has eliminated the need for them. No longer do you just magically learn shit by duping points into a stat, and passing a check of some sort, and having some NPcs verbally diarrhea it to you, you learn shit by actually interacting with the world by examination of the environment, and by read, as you do in the real world.

The only thing that NEEDS to be abstracted in a modern game is the only thing that really is, and that is pure speech since, even today, games don't have the technology to let you do so directly.

Its like the difference between Morrowind and Skyrim.

In Morrowind, if you want to advance in the Thieves Guild it doesn't matter how you complete quests, or even if you do it without getting caught, all that matters is that you pull out your stat sheet, and have the NPCs look it over.

In Skyrim, to get into the Thieves guild, you have to perform a practical test of stealing something in a crowded marketplace while someone is sitting right next to the thing you are trying to steal.

If Easy Pete actually gave a shit about how i handle dynamite, he would ask me to show him via something like throwing and hitting some target successfully.

He wouldn't just go "can you do it?" and then say yes or no depending on how my character says "yes I can do it!"

Skill checks are just a developer crutch, and an easy way out of actually having to DO THINGS in a game.

It's not about the mechanics or the abstraction, it's about having alternative solutions to problems within the game. This is becoming less and less over time, in favor of pacing and shooting. It isn't just in the lack of mechanics, or the lack of "checks", but in the game design from the ground up and general philosophy. There is very rarely alternate solutions.

Also your argument that abstraction in games is unnecessary is plain wrong. Perception abstraction is still needed, as while a lot can be visually rendered in 3D, situation awareness depends on smell, touch, and hearing just as much (and this doesn't even cover games with shitty FOV, or if a player is limited to lower resolutions or other technical performance limitations). Also I've never seen a game yet that simulates peripheral vision (closest is maybe the ArmA series, which probably has the best situational awareness simulation of modern games, and even that one still abstracts information to the player). In the age where graphics have to be increasingly more fancy (and frivolous), there is a massive in-game difference between levers, buttons, and control objects that are decoration and what can be interacted with by the player, so perceptive abstraction is required there as well.

Knowlege of the gameworld has to generally be abstracted too, as your character may know things you otherwise wouldn't (again, going back to how character builds actually matter in a role-playing game). A player shouldn't have to be a biology major to play a surgeon character in a game, but the character themself does have such required knowledge to do their job. And human interface and character control has not improved significantly in the last 20 years either, so I don't know what you're on about that.

Abstraction will be needed until there is a method and interface to allow players to manipulate a gameworld openly and have the world respond in a predictable correct way. We are far off from that.

I know this is impossible in Fallout 2, and it's probably impossible in Fallout as well. So stop baiting. You can get pretty close in New Vegas, you'd have to be super stealth super charisma super hacker super lockpicker to even try it though. The main problem with NV is that going in guns blazing is the easiest and fastest solution to everything, but other than that almost every quest has some peaceful or avoid-violence solution. Not that some if NV's mechanics aren't complete shit (like a good majority of it's dialogue skillchecks), it's generally well-regarded because it atleast tries. The philosophy behind NV is solid for RPGs, and seemingly ignored moving forward.

That is only the result of poor gameworld and narrative design.

Take the introduction of Skyrim for example, during the intro, before we even enter the keep we learn
-There is a war
-It's between the Empire and the Stromcloaks
-Ulfric is the leader of the Stormcloaks
-Tullius is the leader of the Empire's forces in the war
-The Empire has sided with the Thalmor elves who the Stormcloaks dislike
-The war is over Talos worship
-Dragons were once thought myths, but have now suddenly returned

And with this, we know all the basics of what we need to know about the current in-game situation, without ever having need an NPC just point blank tell us, or them having to abstract it.

To make it better, one of the first books you can find in Helgen keep is "The Book of the Dragonborn" which details the ancient prophecy of the last dragonborn, and eludes to the events of the game.

Good narrative design, and world item placement can easily remove the need for abstracted knowledge.

I'm trying to think of times when you're locked out of having a companion and have to kill someone, I can't really think of any such scenarios. Of course in the beginning of the game you'll be relying on Preston (or Dogmeat) being your bad guy killer. And you'll have to skip Concord at first and let a companion kill all the raiders and deathclaw later. I know Codsworth gives you a quest to kill some bloatflies but you could just fuck off and have Piper or some other early companion do it for you. Or Codsworth.

It could tell them how the gameworld wants them to solve a puzzle, but at that point you might as well just hand-hold the player and make the game an interactive cutscene. There will always be a descripancy of skill and knowlege between a player and their character, and especially since interface devices are still as crude as they were 20 years ago, it's not going to change anything soon (some of the interface might, but character and player knowledge and skill descrepencies will always existed until we have The Matrix level tech where we "upload" knowlege and skills, and at that point RPGs and video games in general would be pretty frivolous.

You don't have to complete MZ to complete the main quest, though. You can't disqualify RPGs for having non-essential quests you have to kill to complete, because I'm pretty sure every single RPG has at least one quest that requires you to kill someone.

By the way, I've played all of recent FO games, and I dislike Fallout 3. I thought it was boring, and its story was a huge mess. I'd even compare FO3's story to shit like the Star Wars prequel trilogy. I liked the Pitt, though. About all I did in FO3 was install a million mods and then fuck around for a few hours before moving on to another game. I did complete the main quest and some of the DLC, but I quit in the middle of Broken Steel. I got so fed up with the blandness of FO3 that I just quit playing in the middle of that DLC.

The idea that you get a rusted to shit PA isn't awful. It's that you never need to leave it and it doesn't feel in anyway than fully functional PA so you're basically end-game.

If it had noticeable issues, even if it creaked and groaned as you used it would feel better. Another idea would be to have it destroyed in the deathclaw fight, it would still feel more like a teaser of the good stuff to come, without spoiling it. And they'd still get to do their front load E3 shit. If I had to re-write it, I'd not give you enough minigun ammo to kill the deathclaw and have you start a fist fight with it, it would be like a more traditional bossfight where you'd target certain areas using VATs to slow its attacks, then it's legs and eventually you'd pin it and overload your fusion core with sturges's expertise and eject from the armour. Killing the deathclaw and sacrificing your armour in the process.

I started a fallout 3 character after not touching it for like 5 years. Just came off a Fallout 4 playthrough that I quit after getting tired of the dungeon grind.

Holy shit this is so much better, and Fallout 3 is pretty shit already. Right from the vault intro, having more than 4 dialogue options changes so much. And they actually branch off into different discussions rather than just a different quip. Just walking around megaton talking to people is excellent. I called the Children of the Atom confessor crazy right away, and he asks me to hear him out about the doctrine before I judge them, so I hear what Atom is all about, call him crazy again and I get a different response. Little shit like that makes such a huge difference.

Far Harbor was excellent, but the rest of Fallout 4 just makes me more disappointed the more I play it.

That's when you go to build it though right? You can do that with any faction I believe. As far as I can see you have to either gun them down or give them the chip to decode it first. I told them nothing, I want to commit some goddamn espionage and steal the data.

This whole part of the game is a fucking mess. "You've been under surveillance since you started the freedom trail" So you saw me get changed out of my Institute gear on your doorstep into this tasty Clark Kent gettup. Then I enter fucking RAILROAD, pass 2 speech checks and sure come into our base, Karl said it was fine. Ok so the game realistically has no way to tell it was an institute outfit but fuck you I'm going madman and working pretty hard to do some role playing here.

So once they meet me I have the option of capping them all, then rummaging through the computer to find the data to take to Virgil or giving them the chip. I tried to just check the PC on the sly once I was inside so as not to give them the chip but the information doesn't appear until you start shooting. Thanks Bethesda. It's a bit fucking anti-climatic to just waste them all as soon as I meet them, and for head-lore purposes it's hardly a great infiltration if your options are hand over sensitive tech or force them underground by shooting up their HQ for the second time.

I don't think Deacon is a real operative. He, Dez, and Tinker Tom are the only ones that have "real" names although Deacon can be interpreted either way and I think his role in the organization reflects that. He's obviously not a heavy and his primary role seems to be recruiter. Of course, if his one job is to watch Kellogg, then the SS puts Deacon in a transition period pretty early into the game.

Although, do we accept that he's #1 and Dez is a figurehead?

Pretty much all of them. I have a hoarding problem. There are more guns in my load order than I could ever use.
The mod in that video is the OTs-2 Kiparis. It's really well made. Only minor gripe is that without the laser attached the 3rd person animation has a bit of floating hand syndrome.
In the other webms I posted are the Plasma Cycler, MP443 Grach, Remington 870 and a regular old laser rifle with some modded parts.

Evil is less rewarding but can be a bit more cathartic if you find the npc's and their motivations droll.

I recommend Neutral Asshole, where you generally react based on how you feel towards characters. Want to screw someone over because you don't like their face/voice? Do it.

Want to help someone out of the goodness of your heart because you think the reward might be worth it? Do so.

Generally this would be interpreted as "evil" but thanks to Fallout 3's fucky karma system it'll probably land you in Neutral territory. Being expressly devoted to one or the other can feel way too limiting as Fallout 3 simply doesn't have a load of quests, and a majority of the gameplay relies on exploration and discovering locations or things not tied to any specific character.

This sounds contradictory but what I meant here is that a lot of times dialogue in Fallout 3 makes you choose between "Good Karma", "No Karma", and "Bad Karma".

Selecting the "Good Karma" option (I don't need a reward, helping you is good enough yadda yadda) can actually lead to BETTER LOOT. Once again Bethesda just does their best to reinforce that Doing The Right Thing always pays better, which doesn't work so good in a setting like Fallout generally, but probably makes the player base feel happier in that they can have their cake and eat it too.

Yes and Frank Horrigan developed independently of the Master's FEV experiments, so it could be argued that the results are fairly easy to repiclate, sometimes accidentally. My desire to strangle the mod author is sustaining itself. Enemy damage levels are at F1 and 2 levels, except I can't fight back and they don't run out of ammo. They just fire bursts of 9mm. One catches me, I die instantly. Because apparently I take some retarded multiplied damage while they take dick all.

you can turn down the difficulty if you don't like it, enemy damage ranges from 1.5x to 3x depending on the difficulty

The fucker was in Reinforced Combat Armor MkII and was using a 12.7mm SMG. I'm level 10 with my best weapon doing 9 damage. I have no idea what the fuck I'm supposed to be doing.

Like, I have the 12.7mm SMG now, but I have a bunch of weapons. But due to how fucking expensive everything is it's impossible to feed and care for the better guns. You can't tote shit, so paying for it with trash hauls is totally removed. I've been stuck creeping with 9mm bullets. Because it's the only thing I can afford.

Perk Overhaul Concept

14 points at creation
Max 6 in any SPECIAL at creation
All perks have level restrictions for the first point and further points have rebalanced level restrictions.
Rank 1, 2, 3 perks require level (rank x 1) for the first point.
Rank 4, 5, 6, 7 perks require level (rank x 2) for the first point.
Rank 8, 9, 10 perks require level (rank x 3) for the first point.
One point in a SPECIAL allows access to 2 ranks of perks.

Putting the first point into a perk that is ranked higher than your base SPECIAL will increase that SPECIAL by one. This is the only way to increase your SPECIAL as you level.

Just barfing an idea up on the board, curious to hear your thoughts. The level restrictions might be a bit too much as the system would already push you toward taking low-rank perks first anyway.

Yeah, I get that, but a lot of it would just "be" you know? Like 10 is the max at creation as-is, and you can use perk points to buy SPECIAL instead. Those are just changed rules.

So I guess really, I only changed access being double your SPECIAL instead of at-rank, and the SPECIAL growth for taking "stretch" perks.

Not sure what flaws you would like addressed. I like it because it allows people to not worry so much about having high SPECIAL and you increase your SPECIAL by getting perks, rather than dumping into a stat because you want a particular perk.

I was working on a tabletop Fallout campaign and I had an idea for it that went pretty much exactly like that. The vault was located in Newark, and people called the city "New Ark". I didn't go with it because it felt kind of dumb
