I actually used to play mvm in an extremely autistic amount. I got highest damage by a huge margin but apparently people were angry seeing how I got kicked as soon as the 1st round ended. I have a habit of muting people I find annoying. Apparently perfect A+ and bots never passing first medkits on bigrock just isn't good enough for them, or two demos literally make it impossible to play for some reason.

Does anyone else feel like the spy is a victim of the artstyle?

Most new players seem to think you are supposed to play spy like some kind of stealth game. Where you spend as much time as possible out of action, and then you strike with only your knife and sapper.
This is why weapons like C&D are favorites for new players. It allows them to go as slow as they feel like they need to.
They think disguises and 'covers' are important, when originally they were only meant to make you not immediately be seen as an enemy, but instead win you some time from the doubt you could potentially create.

Who can blame them, he is a slender dude in a suit with nothing but a revolver that sounds like it shoots BB gun pellets. The fact he has a weapon entirely dedicated to buildings make them think that is his best job.

To put things into perspective, look at every earlier iteration of the spy. He had a double barreled shotgun and medium armor. He also could use grenades which were incredibly powerful, part of that power came from his ability to use them while keeping his disguise.
He was not meant to be a health and blunt damage powerhouse, but he did in
fact have a viable amount of firepower.
His strength was meant to come with the way he can get into unexpected and advantageous positions, then open up with a pick, and then unleash his firepower behind enemy lines.

Fast paced, threatening, fun to play as.

But, when tf2 came out, he turned into a perceived weakling. Even though he still had good firepower from his revolver.

Imagine we enter a different timeline, and they keep the edgy and intimidating look of the spy. Just to make it easy, let's pretend he looked like the tf2b mercenary. His firepower also looks and sounds powerful.

Does anyone else think he would be played much more aggressively as he should then? Would we have the same problem of useless f2p C&D spies?

I think it would be heavily reduced.

Pyro is already the second strongest close-range class, you just gave him a straight upgrade that shits all over other people's movement, which is something most TF2 players hate, because the game is all about movement and positioning.

The meta is has plenty of trash ideas and misconceptions but it'll usually get the job done. Once you have a high amount of tours you can do non-meta bullshit all the time and usually nobody will bat an eyelid.

Try and play a meta class with low pressure.
For example, Soldiers can be utter trash and not get kicked as long as they have the banner and don't force the meds. Just have the banner, not toot it. People are unobservant.
Scout is simultaneously low and high pressure, if you don't get good amounts of money you'll be kicked, but if you get the money and contribute absolutely fucking nothing otherwise you won't.

Other than that, patience. Sometimes you'll get a salty high tour that'll idle in spawn if anyone dares to violate their unspoken rules. Sometimes you'll get a high tour who will carry the entire team on their backs. Sometimes you'll get a bunch of low-middle tours that'll be friendly but barely scrape through the mission. frontier justice is also pretty annoying, but the crits require an engineer to let their primary source of damage be destroyed. the low amount of shots also matters a lot since the shotgun reloads pretty slowly. giving it two shots would be interesting, but you could also give it 4 shots and minicrits

Another big tip is to always distance yourself from enemies, you don't have to frag anything, as long as their is like a "ball of damage" in a big radius from you, you're doing great (this means switching targets to whatever is most dangerous to you/most dangerous to team((this you will have to decide depending on situation))).

the skeleton team over at valve wants the weapon to be used as a pseudo-secondary, where the shotgun is used as the main source of damage and the degreaser itself is used for quick airblasts in between. the shotgun is already a fantastic weapon that boasts huge damage output, and combining that with the ability to almost instantly reflect incoming projectiles by pressing Q isnt anything to scoff at.

problem is, when peabrains see bonus switch speed, they think about getting that cool 90 damage crit when they could just hold down mouse 1 for a few more seconds. theres a reason why the switch-from speed got knocked down to 30. it boggles my mind why people think that playing pyro means doing less damage than a direct soldier rocket at point blank range when you have your flamethrower.

because pyro has god tier multi target damage with the flamethrower and quicker single target damage with combos. with a decent enough switch speed bonus you can technically kill a scout faster than they can land two meatshots. you can also kill entire enemy teams before they can react if you pull off a flank or are ubered. that's why you'd play pyro over scout or direct hit soldier.

also comparing literally anything to the direct hit isn't fair because it's the most broken piece of shit in the game and only kinda balanced by the fact that it's on a guy with 80% base speed who has to give up his more reliable secondary if he wants to go faster
