No Vault 111 was just cryogenics on unsuspecting people. The Vault was supposed to open after 180 days. The Overseer decided the radiation levels hadn't dropped far enough yet but others in the vault were getting antsy due to the dwindling supplies. After the Overseer ordered all food, weapons, and medicine, the staff mutinied.

Several hundred years without being tampered with? It only failed after the Institute decided to kill everyone for the evulz. I wish you could get more dialog options in this game solely for 90% of the shit the Institute did to you, I already disliked the 4 slot dialog option, and NV felt a bit like it was throwing literally gobs of narrative at you, but I listened to it all anyway...I really wish there was more dialog with them in particular, especially Shaun. The longest conversation you have with him is when you meet him, after that its all "Hey dad go kill these guys bye" and "Why havent you killed those guys yet dad"

TTW Hardcore was a lot of fun, FO3 is not designed for hardcore at all so it can be a bitch at times expecially if youre autistic enough to play permadeath. Once you get to NV it becomes exponentially easier though.

I disagree with Cait on a lot of stuff. I'm nonviolent while she jumps at the opportunity for a brawl. I usually help people and give help/money freely while she's very much concerned with what we get and how we gain. She doesn't seem to care either way about synths and seems to approve/disapprove based more on how we benefit through out interactions with them rather than any philosophical stance regarding them. I generally go out of my way to establish settlements and protect then while she is pretty anti-authority.

She disapproves of generosity and gives me shit for it constantly, so getting her to like me took a while. She didn't like me for a long time at first. She thought I was the biggest nerd ever and kept trying to get me to stop risking life and limb for other people but eventually she saw I was a good friend despite being a nerd when I helped her out.

If I had followed her advice, I might never have helped her out in that way. Really activates the almonds that one.

My water/food empire makes us rich and everything I have is hers so I wish she would stop worrying about money but she lived that way for so long I get that it's hard to break those sorts of habits.

On my first run, I was playing a former corporate espionage agent/assassin, which naturally led to her joining the Railroad in order to find Shaun. She and Deacon spent a lot of time wandering the wastes together, being in many ways kindred spirits. It all fell apart when she found her son and had to choose between him or the people who wanted to destroy everything he'd worked for.

Well, cryo doesn't really "work" today.

And the way it's being developed is to try to preserve recently dead people, not living people.

Basically you replace their blood with a very cold fluid (not water), then dip the body (or just the head, depending on preference) into another very cold liquid. They're not frozen, they're vitrified.

Certainly not like the cold air spray we see in game, that shit would destroy you real quick.

But back to the question: Surprisingly enough, it's 200 years after the war and Vault 111's cryo systems were working just fine. Shocking, really, when most Vaults usually open up due to malfunction in some critical system or plain lack of resources to mantain the Vault.

Not to mention the fact that Vault 111's experiment was only meant to last a few months, which is why the staff killed themselves when they ran out of food (overseer and science staff didn't want to leave the Vault, security did).

So it's a miracle that the thing hasn't completely fallen apart by the time Kellogg got there, but irrc in Fallout 2 there were cryo pods that when opened just showed goo inside.

My best guess is that it wouldn't last much longer than it did. Eventually their luck would run out and the machinery would just break down, releasing everyone.

If properly cared for than it would probably last indefinetely, seeing as 200 years didn't affect the SS negatively at all.

Depends on the character; I as the player consider Shaun/Father to be a callous bastard, but this particular sole survivor had been extremely emotionally invested in finding her son and had no qualms about murdering everything standing in her way. She sided with the Railroad as a means to an end, rather than any particular opinion on synths.

Imagine this as an end game feature for the Institute. Willingly brain-scanning yourself and turning into a Gen 3 synth. Whenever you die and you would otherwise get a game over, you immediately activate in a new body, and you can return to the place where you died to reclaim your stuff. Gain immortality. But it takes an entire day to make an exact copy, so this is a once a day ability. When you die, you simply respawn in the Institute with some basic Institute gear.

The amount of drugs and rads the average player takes pretty much guarantees the SS's reproductive organs dont work. I'm surprised anyone in the CWs work with the radiation hotspots and constant radstorms. In fact, with the amount of corporate malpractice in regards to safety standards, it's a minor miracle even in the pre-war that anyone could reproduce.

Reminds of the mod "Hilda Hughes: an Institute story".

There's a character that believes that survival mode is real and that he has to keep drinking ridiculous amounts of water and sleeping to "save his progress", and whenever he dies the Institute will replace him with a synth wheneve he last slept.

Pretty ok mod. But that makes no sense as a "feature", as this game doesn't have permadeath and you just go back to your previous save without loss.

What if the real plan was to field test a new 4th gen synth with free will designed to be stronger than any courser by pitting it against their own defenses. But they needed a reason to make it believe it was real so it would decide to reach it's full potential, hence the elaborate backstory. Part Turing test, part combat trial.

Know what I've realized? FO4 is actually weaker than FO3. FO3 had it where yes, you're put into a role, but it remains relatively vague. And it sets up characters for you to feel something about, but it fleshes them out. You can read up on files about how some of them suffer from depression or are going a bit crazy, and it sort of eases you to have empathy for them before shit goes totally crazy. The introduction is studded with things that build these characters. When you do the second age jump to the birthday party, you start off facing a bulletin board with little bits and pieces of flavoring that add to the personalities of the characters. Just memos. Just little snippets. But even they add to it. So when bad things happen, they have meaning.

FO3 doesn't just shackle a spouse and kid to you and expect you to care.

Perhaps I should have clarified. I've identified that it's an ENB issue. It's not just the plant, but the water tank over there has its foundation showing over the terrain, and if I were to look at my character head-on, I'd see the underside of his hair through his head. Turning ENB off makes everything opaque again, but looks worse than no-ENB due to SweetFX.

NCR has a power armor production facility smack dab in their territory, just it's not easy to use due to environmental hazards and lack of resources.

The Sierra armor is not "pre-war" as it has been fitted with a far more efficient power supply than T-45d's up that point have had, plainly visible on the suit.

The armor is entirely refurbished, the only thing it has in common with its pre-war predecessor is its shell, which is likewise treated and provides superior protection.

It would be like saying a car with entirely new seats, transmission, and engine is still the same car.

Try toning down on the rage and figurative spittle if you want to be taken seriously or not look like a dickhead.

It's getting pretty hard to handwave shit and come up with in character reasons for progressing the main quest. I guess I'm just sort of running an institute security audit? Seeing if it's even possible to get in from outside? I did the alternate start as a Field Scientist but basically all that did was spawn me in a field with a labcoat and a quest marker to DC to find my son. Perhaps I will use my valuable medical skills and penchant for espionage to infiltrate a certain secret society that's been a thorn in the side of the Institute.

The West-Tek facility has hit directly by a large nuke that rended basically the whole facility inopeperable, and so radioactive that even people in power armor can't survive there long.

There is nothing in the games to suggest West-Tek, even if it wasn't a radioactive shithole, would be a usable PA production facility.

Ever since the end of Fallout 3 the BoS has been using the resources they gained by beating the Enclave at Adams to expand all across the east coast, and have sent numerous recon teams to most major cites, even as far as Boston.

And ever since they got the Prdywen, they have been using it to travel across the East Coast and spread their influence across it even faster.

There are any number of cities they could have gotten many T-60 suits from.

If you have the ability to tool up a factory to create a product, then you not only have the expertise to know how that product is made, but knowledge that is in depth enough to create an efficient method of doing so. Brand new and completely different power unit. Brand new and completely different functionality (typical T-45d's do NOT provide medical aid to the wearer). The chassis/shell itself has been heavily modified beyond just a bit of paint as well.

This was not a "restoration" of an old suit of T-45, it was taking an old suit and making it into something almost completely different. My argument is straight, consider trying to pay attention to what's going on. You take a car with a manual transmission and make it automatic, take a v4 engine and replace it with a v8, it's not the same damn car nor is it simply a "restoration".

Not to mention, we know, from loading screens in Fallout 4, that T60 PA was being used all across the nation since every major city was under martial law due to civilian revolts caused by the lack of resources.

T-60 armor would be everywhere.

Also, we have to consider the fact that Maxson's BoS is only about 500 people large, and that includes scribes, vertibird pilots, and low ranking soldiers, who all don't have access to PA.

All in all, the BoS likely has less then 200 suits of T-60 PA in use.

My thoughts on T-60 were always that they got them from the Pen- The Citadel. In fallout 3 they tell you they got most of their power armor AFTER getting to DC, so I'm just assuming Bethesda is retconning all the T45 in exchange for T-60.

I still think it's dumb that they have T-60 at all. Should have just been T-45 with T-51 for higher ranking paladins and shit. Maybe one or two experimental suits of T-60 in the game, for Maxon and yourself. Also X-01 shouldn't be pre war and should be associated more heavily with some kind of Enclave remnants, with even a suit or two of "X-02" and Hellfire being around.

Power armor is generally way too common and easily obtained. It really should have been rare. They could have emphasized the power of the BoS in conjunction with their detachment from the wasteland commoners.

I was able to remove some of pouches from the marine armor. Mainly, the arm/shoulder pouch, the side leg pouch and the giant pouch on the back of the chest armor. The problem with the rest of the bags is that there is no modeled armor underneath the pouches.

Yeah, mainly under Westside and North Vegas. Generally empty but has random settlers here and there. There are some under east Vegas as well which are more enemy-filled. Some might be connected with House and his robots too, I haven't really gotten that far in the game to activate some of those areas yet if they do.

Well I'm no expert on if its possible or not, but I couldn't get a flowing Batman-esque cape to work in OS.

OS can do simple physics like hair and stuff, but flowing capes...you may need 3ds or a whole new physics system for that.

Because Stella is a captured profligate put in the arena for sport (it's implied she's the ranger captured from the raid on Charlie). It was probably unexpected that she'd whip out some Chuck Norris action and fuck up Legionares, and that slight might be one of the reasons the arena asshole is extra butthurt about a woman Courier running around freely.

For every one comment that says his voice acting is bad, there is at least three comments that say, "DONT LISTEN TO THE HATERS KEEP IT HOW IT IS ITS PERFECT". That's true for the most part, but I think there is wiggle room for adaptation in the Brotherhood of Steel. In the east they do already recruit more from local populations that they used to, and have more political and social interaction thant hey did in California, even if Maxson pulled back some of Lyon's reforms. I'm sure Veronica isn't the only pure-bred Brotherhood member to question the sustainability of the status quo either, and in the east there are more new ideas and members less brought up under Codex dogma. Not that any such changes won't come with problems, but they could happen.

So I'm doing a punisher style play through and I'm at a dilemma. I just met father, saved and closed the game down so I could think how the punisher would respond and I've hit a wall. Part of me that's trying to role play the punisher just says shoot father and blow his brains out, but I feel like that's not the only way to go. I don't see the punisher siding with the institute but I'm not sure if he would just straight out kill father either.

I've sided with the minute men thus far, but this has me stuck hard. Doesn't help that I've never read the punisher comics, only watched the movies.

Anybody know what exactly is causing this?

I had a similar issue present itself with some powder gangers.

I have a feeling it's something between NVR and FCO, but NVR specifically said that it requires FCO, yet simultaneously not to activate any of it's esms or esps.

My home is Sanctuary

BUT my base and Vault / treasure trove lockup facility is a fortress on an island covered in turrets, surrounded by deathclaws. I've come to call the place Deathclaw Island.

It might lag the shit out of my game but I think for the true "Gun nut" look, I am going to plaster the inside walls and floors of that place with weapon display racks and basically make it an armory / museum of legendary weapons I've found.

I hang out at Greentop a lot since it's a good location.

I've been to Murkwater literally once and I set up some basic stuff like some defense and food and water purifiers and said "good luck". Way down there and they expect me to walk there and help them fight off like 5 raiders.

Hangman's really is my most visited settlement, and I have lots of chests full of gear there. Made a 3 story tall meeting/social area, then crafting stations, then beds building since it's so tiny.

this sounds like fun, and I might do it on another playthrough, but more recently a lot of my settlements have been getting rekt by raiders because I set Uncapped Settlement Surplus to hard, so they come for my water like every few days.

Yeah, it is fairly close to Hordhagen. I said Nahant just because I think the ocean and surrounding beaches provide nice scenery.

That's all the side quests too anon, at least 9 out of 10 of them. Almost every quest boils down to go here, they send you to go kill things here or kill things here and collect x.

I wish it wasn't like this, but it is. And all radiant quests are like this. It really makes me wary of picking up extra quests because I think that at the end of the current quest I am doing will net me 50 caps and a repeat quest to do another.

What Bethesda missed is a lot of times the monetary reward wasn't what mattered so much as the story it told, even if the story wasn't that great or detailed. Having the experience be the reward instead of caps or some op weapon is a better reward in my eyes.

That was me, Buff did me a real solid getting the thing rigged. I guess I could try and dig out that file if you want a go at it where I failed. Every time I tried to fix the jagged noodle arms they just got worse and worse and had massive gaping holes from where I did an awful job of posing the ported model to put in OS. My attempts at weight painting were awful and I couldn't ever quite get the textures to work properly.
Tbh with you, you'd be better off just starting from scratch. The only part of it that was done to any appreciable level was buffs rigging. The rest was a fucking mess. I didn't even start on the chest rig I had ported over. One day I'll have another go but I don't feel I'm any better at it now.

WTF. A new game i made, which was 3 hours old, is suddenly unloadable, no mater what. Just crashes half way through the load screen, on every single auto save, hard save and quick save, even back into the vault. My old game loads up fine.

Its apparently possible for a character file to magically get soooooo corrupt, its taint can go back in time and corrupt it's every recorded moment of existence.

I suggest using CK or Xedit, finding the "Well rested" perk, and right clicking and select "Used by" and then see if there are any furniture that are using it.

It's called Console Menu 1.2 and the plugin is the Console Command Compilation by DOOM. I've not attempted it, but you can write your own XML scripts to make your own options in the menu.

Where does the player character keep all this stuff that is supposedly in their inventory?

I keep track of what a "realistic" carrying capacity, in terms of weight, would be. But you're still telling me that I have a pistol, a hazmat suit, like 15 water bottles, several stimpacks/radaway, some gourds and potatoes and carrots, a bunch of keys and notes and holotapes, several magazines for the pistol, and my pip-pad all in my pants pockets?

Anyone else autistic enough to hold your character to a realistic carrying capacity in terms of dimensions and not just weight?

I'm trying to, but I end up not carrying around enough food/water and ammo. And I have a chest at hangman's that has hundreds of keys/notes/holotapes/magazines/etc in it now too. All the "weightless" items.

And only being armed with just the deliverer has some downsides too.

started using the wattz it's pretty fun. holorifle is ok except for the reload animation. plasrail is good but I'm not a fan of it personally.

The only cybernetics of the type Kellogg had in previous games were the SPECIAL-boosting implants the player character could get in 1, 2, and NV.

Base obtainable crit chance seems to be 10%, +5% with Finesse. Other bonuses are all clothing base and bring it to a max of around ~25% Then True Police Stories brings it to 35% while active if you have the perk, if the perk still even works with these mods. 38% with BtD if you have it as a trait. 41% with the Survival Expert perk. 45% with light touch. Then 60% for lasers with the two perks that affect them. 61% for Unarmed and Melee with Ninja.

Disregarding armor entirely because I have no idea what TTW does with it, DR can be brought to 15% without Survival Expert. 25% when standing still. BUT. You can max out DR with the 3 chem combo of Med-X, Battle Brew, and Slasher.

May have totally fucked up tabulating.

If you could rewrite Fo4 how would you make the plot not shit. Myself:

- game begins with the player (a snyth) being created, one of only a small number of humanoid synths
- CIT mostly uses regular robots instead of synths, and the facility is powered by a prewar nuclear reactor
- objective is to get more fuel from the decayed reactor site (or the crashed airliner) in the Glowing Sea, which now has a background radiation of at least 20 rads/sec and is patrolled by prewar military robot tanks (which makes it more difficult for the player to just beeline it there and back)
- Diamond City split amongst five areas (lower concessions, upper stands, box seating, premium seating, and field)
- Covenant turned into a prewar gated suburb, kind of like Andale. Residents are under some sort of drug and unaware that America doesn't really exist anymore
- Corvega factory is operational, and produces tanks (moved to the Glowing Sea by rail). Also secured by military bots
- The reactor near the Revere antennas is operational, but is the most heavily defended area in the game
- The Children of Atom are a much larger faction, and are the only united force between each Commonwealth settlement. Their temple also has some radioactive material, but is also heavily guarded and can only be entered if you do 100+ radiant quests for them
- Endgame is choosing between building a bomb or building a reactor (ie war vs peace)

What are some actual in-universe pros of using a laser rifle over an assault rifle ? All I can think of are cons:

Those are just some of the post-war problems with energy weapons without proper infrastructure. And quite honestly, comparing the damage between ballistic and energy rifles across the game, armor resistances and so on I don't even understand why the army wanted them in the first place.
