Honestly rarely happens on 5CP. Can be a bit hard to find a match on maps that aren't Process/Processv2, though. The only map I've actually seen engineers setting up on last being effective on was Processv2, actually.

Don't jump unless you are in close range, stay at the ground at mid range be unpredictable. Most scatterguns have more pellet spray to the right as I see it (at comp specially), aim at belt level and slightly pull to left to maximize damage. Pace double jumps and airsteer more if you don't wanna be an easy target.
Abuse jump abilities of unlocks when you need a walkaround the Sentry sightline and gain height advantage. Bonk can be used to bait a ground level Sentry into shooting his own Engineer. Milk gives you huge survivability to do whatever you want and prolong your lifespan, on top of tracking Spy easier. If you can't make any other thing work, look into bleeding effects or Crit-a-Cola.
I'd give you another "quick rundown" like I did to Engineer to previous thread but I need to sleep and not in a good mood.

seriously though, the biggest reason people don't bother with this game is that you have no idea of what the fuck is going before 100-200 hours, and even than, you have to surf the web for guides. the game shouldn't always hold your hand, but the fact that the only source of info in-game are buggy, incomplete, tutorials and obscure loading tips that for some reasons cannot be found in a list really tips players off.

The worst is when I'm trying to build on that tree stump at Landfall. I usually put my dispenser and sentry at the edge of the stump so that I can stand in the middle, but some goober decides to put a building there, so I can't park myself in my nest without getting pushed away slowly. I dunno how many fucking times I've seen a friendly engi running up to the stump and I pre-emptively crouched down to make it harder for them to push me aside and build.

Crit-heals was an attempt to encourage a "Retreat and get healed" mindset by valve, although in practice that shit is ridiculous. Imagine if a 6's match the medic would refuse to heal anyone in-combat.

The breaking points for crit heals are also very weird. When you take damage a hidden -66% healing debuff takes effect for 10 seconds, and then fades linerarly off in 5 seconds after that.

>15 Seconds or more = 100% 72hp/s

Main effect of this is that the out-of-combat classes can easily be buffed for an easy Über boost, and also helps their survivability.
Once you see someone arriving at the front lines, you can give them their overheal in a split second, right before they start fighting, and then switch back to what you feel is best then.

Contrary to some belief, Crossbow is not affected at all by Crit Heals, which is actually a good thing.
The crossbow takes 1.6 seconds to reload, however, it reloads automatically if you switch back to medigun, meaning it is roughly 33% more effective when used as situational healing, instead of spamming it.
Deploying it takes 0.5, shooting it is instant, deploying medigun again is 0.5 seconds.
Meaning, arrowing your target is 1 second of lost heals.
You can however, arrow them for 75hp-125hp. Let's assume worst case scenario and hit 75hp.

Sacrificing 1 second of healing Medigun to heal 75hp.

This is an insane advantage in combat, or hitting a teammate that just explosive jumped. As now your gimpheals of 24hp/s turns into a potential 64hp if you get your tick-perfect plays right.

This means that in most scenarios, when you are healing someone, and a teammate just runs back and cries MEDIC, arrowing him might be the best option if everyone is low on health.

yeah I use my trademark Über hack as medic, gives me 25% every time I hit someone with my melee.

For demoman, the other class I main, I use the infamous "Looking up with the sticky launcher without charging my shots at strategic spots" hack, it allows me to deal damage without taking any myself.

For scout I use the gravity hack, it makes it so when I use the soda popper I can jump 5 times if I deal enough damage.
