Red wards stop a vision ward from working when placed on them. If you try to destroy said ward, however, the ward will once again give vision until it's destroyed.
Attacking an enemy champion will draw minion aggro towards you. You can remove the aggro by leaving their range or leaving the enemies vision, usually by walking into the bush in lane. This is very important for winning trades in lane because minions do quite a lot of damage to you early on.
Always get a red ward before leaving spawn. It's 75 gold and it is literally a life saver.
Itemization changes from game to game. Think of the possible damage, protection, and utility the enemy has and will get before making a purchase.
