The latest ones kept getting more shit added to it which just made them remove old content as it was all going to be "redone", the ever increasing roster and traits kept making the game crash or simply not have animations for most combinations, and is pretty trash regardless. It is easy in my experience. Use ITH to get the text by selecting the game in the process window and having it auto copy to clipboard from the options, then have chiitrans (or jparser or whatever else) auto monitor the clipboard and then it just werks.

I used to use ITH+Chiitrans because of the dictionaries and stuff I could use to look up and reference things, but eventually it was so out of date, google translate/other things no longer working, that I dropped it for VNR ages ago. Now it seems like VNR is starting to go the way of Chiitrans too as in no longer being updated and such.

It heavily varies. Some VNs make absolutely no sense, and then others are perfectly fine to understand.
I recently played Soreyuke Burunyanman and like 90% of the dialogue exchanges were perfectly understandable.
Eien to Natta is another one where the machine translation does an almost near perfect job.
Maki-chan to Nau is one where I got the main story and everything, but smaller parts of the dialogue would be lost, I'd say that was about 75% maybe.
Musumaker was less than that, maybe 50%.
It depends on how plot heavy things are. I feel as though machine translation doesn't work well with distinguishing the past, present and future, so figuring out past events that get talked about is a little hard.

I recently started reading Shoujo Kyouiku and the machine translation works near perfectly for understanding the dialogue in it.
Oh yeah, another more recent and popular example was Natsu no Kusari, that one was very easy to read too.

See that's where you mislead yourself. Let me borrow some ideas from Weitz's "The Role of Theory in Aesthetics" which also references Wittgenstein's concept of Familienähnlichkeit.
Let's say we were to ask what a game is. Instead of fruitlessly listing an exhaustive definition, we may instead pick out things which are called games, and from those samples conclude that those and things like those are what games are. From there we recognize what a game is without knowing or needing to know its explicit definition. So what I think is, is that Ibara for example has enough of an overlapping likeness with other things that would be called "girls" for her to be called a girl too, and I think anyone with a healthy mind thinks the same.
