It bombed because it's missing all the charm of Arland, it doesn't even have atmosphere like dusk and the art is pretty shit. Next time don't let porn artist decided your art Gust. The Arland formula worked, catering to casuals and sexualizing the girls to pander to otaku were big mistakes and ruined the games. You think they would have learned by how shitty Shallie sold. Totori and Rorona crashed ALL the time for me, I still loved them, so it's not the bugs. Also bugs don't explain poor day 1 sales. Gust is just taking the series in a direction no one wants it go to. I want MORE character interaction, 2d dialogue scenes, time limits, new game plus, lots of ending that are hard to get and MORE character interactions.

To defend Firis a little bit, there was a lot of character interactions in Firis, a lot more than what was in Sophie. Actual endings too, but they were way too easy to get. Harder ones would have been great as you say. It's interesting to see where they take the series, I hope it isn't just expanding porting and calling it a day.

I don't know how to feel about Sophie anymore. It was a weird game when you look at it now. No big story to tell, but no time limit either. I wonder if the no time limit would had been fine if they just made a more engaging story to go with it.

Making Plachta a human again just wasn't enough. Personally I liked my time with Sophie, but I can see why people wouldn't like the way the game goes. The character interactions didn't have much impact and the story felt lackluster. I just liked to make overpowered bombs and equipment at the start since I knew what traits to mix to get the best out of them

A hard time limit and multiple endings would have done a lot for it. Hell, it even had a calendar but it wasn't used for much.

The Alchemy was the only good part about Sophie. The downward trend really started when they removed time limits and the introduction of 3d vn scenes. Without time limits, multiple ends and new game plus you lose everything that makes Atelier unique, those three aspects are what makes an Atelier game. Without them they become generic anime girl game with less content than Neptunia. The move to 3d for the visual novel parts was a bad mistake because the 3d art is never good enough to express the character without everyone looking like potatoes, also you are paying great 2d artist, let them make 2d art. The removal of time limits was just to cater to people that don't even like atelier and just want to go "plat hunting". I don't care that the games took 60+ for your autistic ass to plat.

There's no reason for them to rush PS5 out so soon. They're in the driver's seat with PS4, and there's little reason to believe that Scorpio will offer enough more than PS4 Pro to do anything more than keep MS in the market. Switch is no threat at all.

Furthermore, if they bring out PS5 next year, it will seriously alienate people who bought in ion PS4 Pro. It risks the same mistake Nintendo made in the Wii to Wii U transition: expecting people to buy a new box 2-3 years after they bought your current one. Remember, a lot of those 60 million sales on PS4 weren't way back in 2014.

The worst part is that the mere rumor that they might come out with a PS5 next year will depress PS4 sales. It wouldn't surprise me if it's actually FUD being spread by MS.

You always have to be ready to adapt to the market, certainly, but when you are in the lead, you need to be more conservative with your reactions. Otherwise, you can be your own worst enemy.

Now if Sony looks at what Nintendo is doing with Switch and decides that maybe the market is there for a Vita2/PSP3 after all, that would be a different story. I think Nintendo may actually have made a mistake by trying to balance Switch and the DS line at the same time, and the handheld market could be up for grabs again.

That might be the reality, but that's not how potential customers see it. Consumer culture has shifted. Apple's marketing team is partly to blame. Ever since the iPhone and the iPad became popular, consumers just got used to the idea of upgrading their perfectly usable device every few years. That kind of mind frame has bled over to consoles. People want the newest shit, even if they have no idea why they actually want it. My mom gets a new iPhone every time a new one comes out, every time I ask her what new features it has that makes it worth buying and she just shrugs and says she just knows it's better.

I can't enjoy DT2. Why is the combat so bad. It feels like a chore. And the bosses are OP killing everyone in my team in one shot. I can rarely stop their chanting.

The party members are bad too. The scout, maid and spieler are pointless. I'm at the gremlin but just feel like dropping it. Had more fun with Demon Gaze than this.
