Yes you can combo a Black Flame off an R1 with Sage Ring +2 on. Other good pyros are Vestiges as a nuke punisher, Fire Surge for chip hits and Black Serpent to force distance pressure.

Good ways to use Scar is 2H with an offhand Blessed Caestus for regen and parries or 1H with a shield like Ethereal Oak or Dragonhead. Shield.

Vestiges, chaos fire ball that leaves the pool of lava, and black flame are all you really need.

Consider getting the black orb one for demon princes. Also get a chime for pestilent mercury and projected heal. PM is perfect against Midir, and projected heal is great in the arena.

Serpent is primarily a combo tool yes, you don't want to overuse it as it is very easy to dodge if you know how and it is mainly a way to force movement from long range. Vestiges only combos from Serpent though when you fire Vestiges right as Serpent is about to hit someone so it is tricky to hit reliably. When it comes to Scar it may usually be more reliable to just use R1s and punish since Scar is one of the longest curved swords.

Other good spells to consider are Flame Fan if you're a master of spacing with it and a healing miracle like Projected Heal or Great Heal.

Vestiges is good but it has limits. I would recommend practicing learning to free aim chaos orbs.

Black flame seems pretty good to me.

It has very low FP cost for what it is which is pretty good. It requires perfect spacing to use though since it is slow for something without hyperarmor but the range is good. If you hit with Flame Fan it automatically knocks your opponent into a knockback state as if they were kicked which makes the follow-up combo dealing around 500-600 damage on a full combo of it. Again good for its very low FP cost and amazing in PvE as a result while being situationally useful for PvP. Not a top-tier pyro against other players but it has its uses.

Gotta learn spacing and not limit yourself to just "roll or attack". Learn to dodge without rolling so you can interrupt them once their attack is over, and then roll catch when they panic roll away.

It wouldn't be so bad if the game was built for international internet ping in mind. With the amount of latency the average EU/US player experiences, you're always protecting yourself from 20-30 frames ago, so you can't space yourself on reaction by watching the swing (which might hit you on their screen, but seem to whiff on your screen). You have to memorize the hitboxes for each moveset.

Yup. I found for myself that you just put on Dark Blade, then Projected Heal for if you get a spare moment (more frequent than you might imagine) or Tears for the extra hit.

I could see Lightning Arrow for one of those last hit scenarios, especially if you have a talisman for poisecasting it, but I prefer to use a lightning urn or just run them down with the Crucifix.

It's a build-consuming weapon and I love it.

They play differently. With Aquamarine you want to abuse running attacks while transformed and generally play around outspacing with superior range. With bandit knife you want to play like a feral animal, dodging swings with quickstep and staying on their faces constantly.

Eh, it's a bit too much setup. I invade mainly and part of what I like about Tears (my current second spell) is that you can put it on as soon as you zone in and then you just have to throw on Dark Blade when you find the host.

It is frustrating that it often becomes a stalemate, but as the invader you really have to just resign yourself to sitting there until the host moves because you know rushing in is a losing proposition, and the only battlefield you can consent to is one with more pieces on your side of it.

I'm trying to go for a melee int build untill I get the good spells but MGS is kinda late game unless I kill dancer early, but that also means I can't get White Dragon Breath in this cycle. Crystal Sage Rapier is early but it's pretty shit. Heysel Pick maybe? It seems kinda boring, though the utility of casting spells could be fun I guess. I suppose I could rush Ariandel's Painting and get the onyx blade from Vilheilm but last time I tried that I just didn't have the dps to kill him. Maybe just infusing something with crystal but then I'll do split damage.

It is. DS3 is far more forgiving with its gameplay, even though the bosses are a bit ridiculous. Once you get past the point where you aren't learning new moves or fucking things up regularly, you can breeze through it because you don't have as much precision necessary as DS1.

DS2 base game is probably easier, but DS2 DLC throws you a lot of enemies at once with fewer obvious weaknesses
