I used to be in here back in the days of ALB and RD release. Haven't been playing since before Netherlands and other DLC hit. Everyone seems to hate Red Dragon in the previous thread while I remember it as Airland Battle with just more factions and units just fucking ignored naval bullshit. What happened? Taranovka encirclelment breakout? You should have one Pak 40 that is able to take out both Matlidas and Valentines so take good care about it and try to reserve some of your supplies for it. Nevertheless it won't be enough so prepare for a lot of maneuvering, you have to choose your battles. Use forests to hide and move your platoons, attack enemies where soviets don't have armored support. You main mission is to push west and secure your position until SS LSAH comes to help you (which happens ~ turn 5). They may take different approaches but they should attack with Tigers which should relieve a lot of pressure from you. The beauty of this game is that you have to do exactly what you would have done in real life situation, and you will succeed (which also means that if you see a tank squad rolling over your positions and you have no AT weapons, you should just hide and save your life). Good luck Her General.

I think if there's a command element near-by, they fight to the death and won't surrender. Can't be 100%, but I think that's the general rule. Troops like SS tend to just keep fighting regardless due to training and generally better morale, but if you kill a "dismal" morale units leader, they're liable to freak out.

If you defend only against infantry - dig trenches. Unit that has not moved for 2 turns can use this ability during deploy phase. Entrenched infantry will massacre platoons charging at them with no additional support, especially if you play as Germany. Take your time during deploy phase and place your units in areas that provide good camouflage and set them to ambush mode. Take a look about the depressions and elevations of a terrain to make sure your units have a good line of sight on area in front of them. Sometimes from above it might seem like they have a clear view but if you use their camera you will see they have restriced LOS, which means enemies can crawl close and toss granades at you. If you defend against vechicles you need to have some counters. Any sort of anti-tank rifles will do well against APC's but for tanks you will need canons with sufficient penetration (unless you catch them by suprise with hatches open). To add onto >>175294805 (they generally cover most of it), if you're up against tanks without any real counters, try leverage ditches and the like to your favor. They're extremely useful. Don't be afraid to give territory if it means you get a better battle location. A defense on an indefensible point is worse than giving the point and having a workable defense elsewhere.

Picture related generally shows how I dispatched 3 tanks (1 KV-1, 2 T-34) without many more losses than just one engineer platoon absolutely destroyed, and a much lower artillery reserve. My overall infantry losses were actually comparable to the enemies, and my non-engineer platoons were relatively unscathed.

Basically, given a map where I was up against tanks with few counters against them, I hemmed myself into the one corner I had with a gully (meant the enemy tanks had to get very close for firing angle), set up engineers and one infantry platoon on one side of the gully, and a few more infantry platoons further up it with my single Pak-38 in support. Artillery spotters were in the trees and remained silent.

One tank rolled up with a platoon of infantry through the (now flattened) forest. I flanked the infantry with one of my platoons in the gully, shelled them with everything I had, and made a dash over open ground from two directions with engineers to dispatch 1x T-34 with satchels once inf support was dead. Few losses.

Next two tanks moved up with similar infantry support. Shelled the infantry and bided my time taking losses until the tank got within charging distance. They actually came right into my gully, so I was able to get them. Basically though, the terrain use meant they had to get close enough that I could charge.

Due to lost territory, it gave me a slight loss overall, but I treat it as a victory. Had I tried the open field, it'd have been a bloodbath. One engineer platoon for 3 tanks and a similar number of dead infantry to their own losses is victory in my eyes.

There is some distribution of ammo between the squads of a platoon but not too much. If you lock a squad out from supply he will in practice not get it. This is useful thing because if you have a Platoon with Pak40, and two Pak 38 squads you can lock 38's and keep the 40 operational. In Taranovka your supplies are pretty limited, you start mostly with 33% of ammo all across your forces and with only 10 crates in Northern and 10 in southern depot. Until the end of a campaing majority of your forces will run dry on ammo.

Alright help me out /wgg/. I'm playing the Cry Havoc! scenario in Combat Mission Black Sea. The scenario needs me to capture three small villages and some checkpoints with a company of men, a tank platoon, two batteries of off map howtzers, and a unit of off map mortars. I can't even figure out how to approach the first objective. If I move my bradleys up, they get taken out by an ATGM or rocket I couldn't even see. If I move my infantry up as a screen, they get blown up. What am I supposed to do? A small woodline is in between the village and my bradleys, but my units get fucked up before even that happens.

EE has actual single player missions in a loose narrative structure with objectives 'n sheit.

ALB has some rather messy dynamic campaigns that are not really worth playing. But you CAN play them PvP, which is the main redeeming feature

RD has a much more polished set of dynamic campaigns, some people like them but personally I can't stand them as at the end of the day they're just a bunch of destruction game mode AI skirmishes with only the most threadbare of narrative.

EE singleplayer is perfectly playable. The multiplayer thing affects a small handful of the secondary objectives. They're still beatable, you just have to be very good [admittedly you won't be as a noob], and they're perfectly optional. RD has entire campaigns with that level of difficulty.

EE is better by far, it's got cool cutscenes, scripted missions, great atmosphere.

yeah, its role is basically shutting down vehicle usage in phase A. which means, of course, that it absolutely shits on 3AD, more so than usual. probably would be a good pick in a 12SS mirror, too.

If you can keep it alive most certainly, vet provides very large buffs to accuracy.
However it's very easy for AT guns to get sniped through no fault of their own, I take a card of a single double vet 6 lber and another card of 2 6lbers at no vet.

What is this? Or did you just mistype AA? Anyway, aircraft are a big investment, so if they are spamming aircraft, they are giving up alot of ground units. And if you start to damage their planes and pick off a few here and there, they lose effectiveness pretty quickly. It takes a good deal of time just to reload, if you throw repairs on top, it takes along time to get all those aircraft back into the battle.
Aircracft swarms are only really good in destruction imo.

They eventually tracked the T-34, but the hero gave so much.

Is it just me though, or are Stukas underwhelming? I recall the jets from the more modern DLC's absolutely shit down the throat of whoever they were against.

I called some in, and while they did a great job suppressing, they didn't really kill much. Two static guns, and forced infantry to keep their heads down. I kind of hoped for more. It was beautiful to watch my half-tracks enter the town with screeching aircraft overhead though.

It's not too bad after you get the basics down. It feels more difficult than it really is.

Sometimes I find just doing a blanket "attack this" order works better than trying to overthink things. I only really micromanage tanks now.

Use the panel on the bottom right for issuing orders as much as you can too. I find that I get much better performance through using that than I do with the right-click orders, for attacking at least.

The going rule is that if you don't have tanks to kill their tanks with or a well set up emplacement with tons of capable AT guns (ie, not you), you better brebare your angus, it's going to by pyrrhic at best unless you manage some miracle.

Miracles against 2 or 3 tanks are feasible. 12-16, not so much.

Find somewhere defendable, and try preserve your forces until ceasefire. You may lose territory, but it's better than losing territory and your units.

Suffering, then pure love. Make sure you set priorities, and babysit important units (ie making sure they've always good angles, disallow them from shooting infantry if there are more important targets, and so on). Don't let your tanks go to waste. That said, try not to get involved micromanaging infantry and the like. It's not worth the effort (or command you'll expend doing it).

Once you get into it though, they're great games. There's a huge depth of detail, which is part of why I love them so much.

Picture related : I think these guys were on the wrong end of a Stuka, though I do wish I got similar info for shot infantry units.

I try playing ARMA with this one guy but he just doesn't understand a fucking thing. He has to have his hands held from opening the game to starting a server to joining to downloading the scenario to picking a load out and remembering basic controls for some life saving action in the middle of a fucking gunfight. I had a friend who would be asking me what literally every bit of UI meant - eventually I just told him to press the tutorial button and come back after it explained what it wanted to explain, or to read the manual. Similar experiences with ARMA. It's really not worth the effort spoonfeeding people.

Pirated Order of Battle, it's somewhat enjoyable from the like 10 hours I've played. Winter War was alright, felt that the game stressed how shit Finland had it a bit too much though as a single Soviet tank unit will fuck you up since you have like nothing to counter them with. Playing US Pacific now and I've been enjoying the change from land to naval warfare. I would say that if your interested in the game it's definitely worth a pirate, but I don't know about buying at the price they're charging. Seems a bit much since I can't see much replayability in the campaigns.

Yes, there are quick battles that let you pick a map and choose your forces, in addition to the normal single scenarios/campaigns. Also has settings for weather, date (only matters in WW2 games), and rarity (so you cant have 10 of some extremely rare unit)
Also has a map editor and mod repository for maps/skins/scenarios/sounds.

For multiplayer there is a regular connect by IP in turn based and real time mode, but I didnt do that because I dont have all night.

I think people set AT guns up at max range, and then are surprised when they can't kill armored tanks. They still will rape halftracks and other vehicles though at that range. So as a Russian and English speaker, I find it funny how bad the English voice lines are in Wargame, compared to the Russian ones.

All of the Russian ones sound good and natural.
The English ones are literally the Russian ones translated verbatim at times and it just sounds really lame and forced.

Any graviteam pros know how the battle resolution works? Sometimes I find that single battles will sometimes resolve 2 or 3 "flames" on the map, and other times they don't seem to. Any idea what the mechanics of this are?

Operation is pictured. Really not keen on that far right battle occurring as is. No marders, and a handful of Panzer 2's to defend against a Russian tank zerg. The two battles to the left of it give myself marders. The leftmost of those looks like the battle I would prefer overall (largest), but if the centre one also resolves the far right (assuming the left of it doesn't), I'd take it. I just have no clue about how the mechanics of it works, so I'm hesitant to make the call.

Absolutely can not agree. Panzer Corps is more or less a Puzzle game in my eyes.

It does not have a supply/logistics system outside of replenish your ammo/fuel every three rounds or so. Therefore you can not encircle a town or units that dug in. That's a huge problem because the maps are pretty small and the turns that are required for the best victory are simply too short for you to wait some time. Add the fact that you'll constantly run into choke points and it just becomes a frustrating mess. Too much shit on small maps with tight turns limit if you actually want to get the other scenarios that aren't stand. victory.

Order of Battle is more like a proper wargame due to the size of the maps, especially in both Japanese Campaigns, and the supply system which allows encirclements. It also doesn't give you 13 turns to finish your shit and some extra/side objectives. In OoB you don't have to restart your shit 5 times because the first fort determines the outcome.
You can actually plan your movement properly in OoB, during the invasion of New Caledonia I put three/four units on the very right site of the map and slowly made my way through the mountains down to the main objective while the main force got bogged down in the central/western area of the map. I ended up cutting their supply lines with those units on the Eastern site and ran them over with the main force. Would never have been possible in Panzer Corps due to the small size, lack of supply system and turn limit. I like Panzer Corps look better and the reset button is missing in OoB I think.
