In almost every situation I'd say brave weapons are better than killer weapons if only because if you can kill you can do without taking damage while a killer weapon might kill but leave you injured for the rest of the map meaning enemies with vantage become more of an issue and the skill cooldown decrease isn't great because there's no point in using high cooldown skills since you'll never use them and a brave sword can proc low cooldown skills like moonbow just fine anyway.
Assassin's bow is a very situational weapon, and not useful in this heavily mage centered meta, but still has higher mt than the killer bow but then again why not just use the brave weapon to proc low cooldown skills easily anyway?

Hey so over the past year or so I've been trying to sweep back through and play every Fire Emblem handheld game I didn't finish in the past. I beat Blazing Sword awhile back and Binding Blade earlier this year. Since I beat Sacred Stones way back, I've moved on to Awakening.
I was reading in to some various tips and guides and Skill Inheritance and Children units are just confusing the fuck out of me. I like to minmax fairly often in these games but I feel like I'm getting overwhelmed. There's a lot of "X Unit has to be Y Class for Z levels so they can pass on N Skill to their child."

Is any of this that necessary? Is it just a high level auts detector? Also how the fuck do promotions in Awakening work if you can just change class 80 times. What's the max level? Does all this get explained over time and I shouldn't be worrying about it 3 chapters in? Why does it seem like every character in the game spends time as a Dark Flier looking at guides?

I got like ~13 chapters in last time I tried to play this game but I got distracted by something else so I've restarted now. I'd love some assistance here or just tell me to stop being autistic and play the game without worrying about it, either works I'd just like some reassurance.

I think you just answered your own questions.

A skill like Galeforce is the most broken one in Awakening, and it's female-only. If a mother can pass it to a male child, you absolutely have to learn it on the mother before recruiting the child. Awakening has a number of things like that, and in other cases it's just a matter of saving yourself from having to grind two characters in a shitty class, so on and so forth.

Caps and skills are really all that matters when it comes to kids and inheritance in Awakening. Growths don't matter and everything else revolves around those two.

Efficiency minmaxing on Lunatic consists of using Frederick, Chrom, and your tactician to get through the entire beginning of the game, then focusing on using mainly the later two after Frederick falls in usefulness, with anything else there mainly for staffing duty.

Lunatic+ is mostly the same, except you give the game the finger and grind everyone on DLC maps at the soonest opportunity before doing anything past that just to minimize the chance of unwinnable skill combinations screwing you over while Nostanking and poking assholes with counter with bows.

Fates overhauled the class system in a good number of ways, pretty much all improvements.

Levels go back to being uniform (aka Second Sealing doesn't reset your level, growths matter again), and they added Partner and Buddy Seals that let you inherit classes from characters you've S/A+ supported.

It does a lot of good to allow you more flexibility in builds for 1st gens than Awakening did, and the 2nd gens aren't broken and in fact really aren't worth bothering with unless you really really want them. Plus you have to be more strategic with it instead of just grinding until you have everything you want.
