I'm actually not too upset by the whole economy stuff. I got a little over 45,000 GSPs, enough to skill out 500 mechs. That's way too much really and I don't want all that, and I probably would be happier with the 2~ billion cbills, but I actually don't mind because it means I'll effectively never grind a mech again. Literally ever. In fact I can sell half my modules, come out with around 500 million and 22500~ GSPs and be set for pretty much ever on both fronts, certainly far more than enough to buy new tech for anything I want and immediately skill out those mechs. I'm getting back 100 million or thereabouts from their actual module refunds too, which is probably plenty for me to enjoy all the new tech alone.

Basically no matter what I've insured I don't need to grind ever again under this new system and that's all I really care about. The skilltree itself is a way worse situation and far more of my concern.

With 500~ million cbills I can buy nearly 30 Executioners. I can increase that amount if I want at the expense of getting less GSP up to 1 billion and some change. Now that I only need one mech I can be incredibly picky about buying the mechs I want to buy and both of those will last my purchases for an incredibly long time, during which I'll still be playing and gaining more money at some rate.

Loadouts aren't really a big concern with that amount of money, nevermind the amount of equipment and mechs I already own.

I'm not worried about this in the slightest? It's not hard to tell what mechs will be bad or good, but even beyond that I am a pretty good judge at this point whether a mech is going to appeal to me and it doesn't always mean it's got to be strong. Also I don't get any real fun out of levelling the mech, the fun for me is using it at its full capabilities and seeing what I can do with it.

This didn't come across as much of an issue to me either. Unless you're buying Mechs day zero and sight unseen, you can tell how you're going to build it or you're going to simulate it using smurfy or SSW.

I want to use a Mech at it's full skilled capability but I don't see how you're going to dump C-Bills and time into a shit Mech unless you are careless. Now that doesn't apply to new players, just us Gold Men.

The redesigns that I primarily dislike are the ones that are flanderized like the Centurion and the ones that have silly hands for no reason instead of good old human ones. Even if I still love my shitmechs they just aren't what they could be. Let mechs keep their unique traits instead of splattering it around.

Also don't like it when traditionally rounded mechs became square like the Battlemaster; the official Catalyst one is a lightyear ahead and I wish we could switch models. Hell, let them be different models for different variants, with the lower technology ones using the blockier model.

Designs that came later into the game's life cycle are generally much better.

The official catalyst one was designed by Alex, or flyingdebris. Same guy that does the MWO designs.

However, the MWO version of the battlemaster was made before the whole "Harmony Gold no longer going to sick their pet niggers at you while rubbing their jewish hands together" debacle that enabled PGI to make the former unseen Rifleman, Warhammer, Marauder and Archer 'mechs to look at least similar to the classic deisgns. The catalyst tabletop redesign was done last year, after it was confirmed they wouldn't get bogged down by jewry.

I just wish the camera lenses on top of the head canopy weren't so bright, and that the cockpit glass plates were the same color as all the other mechs. The cyan cockpit is actually easier to spot than normal cockpit glass during night, fog etc.

I havent played for almost 2 years. But I still haunt the generals now and then, hoping a fun giant robot game comes out that kong can all enjoy again. Heavy Gear is shaping up pretty nice so far.

Oh my god man, I just played this for the first time 2 weeks ago and I already can't wait for 5. I was ready to shut it off playing ranger, then I tried wing diver and I was hooked. Everything about the game is so tacky except the gameplay. it's fucking incredible dodging in and it with ridiculously high damage short range weapons, or barely escaping a horde of enemies with energy constantly in the orange.

I wanna try summadat air raider but he's so goddamn slow! I bet he's better online in a team

Air Raider SUCKS early game. His weapons and everything suck. But once you start getting some good gear he is alot of fun.

He can be really hard to play solo though. Air Raiders best used on a team, where he can provide crazy good support. Either by throwing down pylons that buff allies damage/deffense/healing, throwing down defensive energy barriers that block enemy projectiles, or calling in arty strikes/missiles/bombing runs/etc.

Also has access to robots, various tanks, and helicopters.

Ranger is who you take if you want to kill anything and everything son.

EDFs movement system is weird. Rolling is faster than running, so you will end up rolling everywhere to get around with Ranger and Air Raider. Ranger get stupidly powerful guns. Shotguns that can clear entire tunnels full of ants in seconds, and rocket launchers that can level city blocks. Dont under estimate them. A multiplayer team of 4 rangers is OP as fuck.

Also try playing Fencer and learn how to dash cancel. Its another weird fucked up thing in the game, but once you get it down you can get your fencer to move around a map as fast as Wing Diver. Equip a shield or javelin launcher in one hand, and a melee weapon in the other hand that has the jet boost that move your forward. Boost, and then quickly activate your shields reflect function, or fire a javelin, and then boost again. You can use this to endlessly boost around like crazy. So you end up having your shield/melee setup in one hand for boosting around and up close fighting, and then your second set of weapons being whatever you want.

I wouldn't play fencer if he couldn't do that dash cancel. Learning that move totally opens the character up to all sorts of crazy shit. I had actually tried him out and thought his dash with that long pause in between was rubbish. Then I tried him later after finding a twin spear weapon and it fires fast enough to perma dash.

If ranger could roll cancel I'd love him tho. Or even if he could roll forward it would be good.

The "whining" isn't really all that.

It's people complaining about the scattered general nodes that are locked behind pointless stuff, like several cooldown and range nodes being locked behind ballistic ammo, velocity or laser duration nodes.

Or the fact that if you want just 10% more armor or 15% more strucure, you'll have to take like 40% shock absorbance. Most commonly on mechs without jump jets.

Or how to get even 40-60% radar deprivation, you'll need to waste points on 4% faster target info acquisition and a couple other pointless nigger stains.

The other major criticism is the whole modules turned into worthless store coupons debacle. I'm with the folks who want the option to exchange 1 GSP (general skill point) for 45,000 c-bills, because I have already mastered my mechs and it would take me another 3 years to get 100 more mechs to master at 91 GSPs a pop.

It's not exactly good business for PGI to take peoples hours spent (I imagine some also spent money buying shit like cache keys where they got modules from or actually bought c-bill packages and bought modules with those) and give essentially nothing in return.

They seemed unsure about pretty much all the missile specifics as well. There's a huge update coming along in a few months that will bring tons of in-game items. Now those super-rich players would spend their absurd amounts of c-bills on new engines, weapons, equipment, all that and more.

If anything, giving players back their c-bills will ensure they'll spend money on mechbays to buy and fully kit out 'mechs with the new shiny things.

That will happen regardless of PGI actually using sane business practices and refunding people. Gameplay balance will be thrown out of whack for the next half a year after the civil war update. But now, without proper refunds, they're ensuring that even more people will cease spending and leave because there's no point if PGI is just going to take your hard earned stuff away at some point and not compensate you for that time spent.

PGI could solve the ATM problem by having them fire three types of missile like they are supposed to.

They don't even have to add ammo switching, just have the ATM launch the missile type based on the distance of the target. So if it's locked onto something at LRM range it fires LRMs, if it's locked on to something at SRM range it fires 3 damage missiles, etc

I literally only buy mechs people say are bad and try to make them work. I spend months playing them, switching variants, builds, modules etc; my verdicts are as follows:

IS Orion: Not bad on paper, good quirks, really durable, but it feels like piloting a slab of concrete, really good for escort mission an nothing else, (always get around 900 when it gets picked tho); otherwise it's torso twist speed is too trash to make him viable, gets outclassed by other chassis. SOLD.

Urban Mech: An absolutely beast, JJ's + high mounts and the hitboxes are among the best in the game, making you seemingly as tanky as a medium-heavy mech. The 18% quicker heat dissipation is also a tier AA quierk and its extremely noticeable. A 60L with 4 Medium pulse, 1AC5 + 4 SL and my favorite 2 LPL will serve you right. Anyone that says this is a bad mech has his head buried in the ground. KEPT.

Ice Ferret: Probably the one witch I tried the hardest with. The 3xSMR6 and small lasers and good for 1shot backstabbing. But the placing of the missl hardpoints is absolutely good fcking awful, and specially so since you are basically a light mech bully, a job where aim and spread is really important. I don't think ECM is what It needed. The shadow cat is a better option if you want a 45TNer, and the Phoenix Hawk is a better option if you want a similar play stile. SOLD.

Gargoyle: I think >>175332070 says it all, people say its bad just cause the playstile is so different from the norm and their troglodite brains are already hard-wired to nascar, you need a lot of patience. KEPT.

Firestarter: Another deceptive mech that looks great on paper. 6MPL with -15% heat generation, or 5MPL wiith 2 flamers. The only fire it was able to start was that of my burning hatred for its awfully large frame and its comically bad torso mounts; torso mounts on light mechs are "usually" a deal breaker for me. No armor / maneuverability quirks on an IS mech is also disappointing. SOLD

They will offer alternatives.

RACs are shorter range continuous fire clan autocannons. They fire a rapid stream of pellets for a larger burst compared to UACs or regular autocannons, but they will most likely have a longer cooldown and generate more heat.

MRMs are missile version of Large Lasers/ Large Pulse Lasers. They should synergize rather nicely with all the other mid-range weapons the IS has, like normal PPCs, AC10s and the like.

IS versions of UACs, Streaks and ER lasers are pretty self explanatory. Heavier and sometimes take more slots compared to clan versions, but they offer IS the same shit clans have.

Light machineguns weigh 0.25 tons for inner sphere, but deal even less damage to slightly longer range than normal machineguns. Heavy machineguns are a heavier, shorter range than normal MGs, but actually deal damage to armor. They might end up like the machinegun version of a small laser, synergizing well with those weapons.

Laser AMS will be okay if you can actually fit that into super heatsink intensive builds. At least they'll counter ATMs pretty hard.

Advanced Tactical Missile, or ATM, is very much in the twilight zone due to what PGI has alluded to so far. May end up having LRM firing and flight mechanics (dumbfire + lockon), but may also have a minimum arming distance that could very well cripple the weapon system as it is. Low tube count means normal AMS and laser AMS will counter this weapon system hard.

Heavy Lasers are on the fence. Inner sphere standard laser ranges, deal considerably more damage (small 0.5 tons for 6 damage, medium 1 ton for 10 damage, heavy 4 tons for 18 damage) compared to other weapons for their tonnage, but are hot as fuck. Whatever duration PGI slaps on these weapons makes or breaks them, as equipping even 2 Heavy lasers means you're essentially taking 2 ERPPCs worth of heat every time you fire.

Light PPC: 3 tons for 5 damage and 3-4 heat, will reach out further than normal PPC. Basically great for lights and mediums that want to snipe but don't want a stare contest with ERLLs or can't fit them. Certain PPC velocity quirked mechs with loads of energy hardpoints will love having 4 of these fired 2-by-2, along with backup weapons. Minimum range on these, though.

Snub nose PPC: Discount Large Pulse Laser. 6 tons 2 slots, 10 damage 10 heat no minimum range bullshittery to same range as IS LPL.

Heavy PPC: 15 damage for 15 heat, 10 tons and 4 slots, Large Pulse Laser ranges. Will be seen if it gets minimum range slapped on it.

Light Gauss: Made for lights and mediums. 12 tons, 5 crit slots (clan size) for 8 damage at slightly longer ranges compared to normal gauss. Tabletop it has minimum range, will remain to be seen if MWO will slap it with that.

Heavy gauss: Essentially assaults only. 18 tons 11 slots (Side torsos and STD engines ONLY) but deals 25 damage to AC20 ranges.

His desires are extremely optimistic. Given that regular PPCs have 9.5 heat as of a recent update, you can expect LPPCs to be no less than 4.5.

Which is actually an upgrade if you look at it that way... Then again, ghost heat limits are certain to screw them over unless you're okay with firing in volleys. Probably a firing limit of 3 instead of 2, but no idea how that's going to interact with regular ones when combined together.

RAC/2 is stronger than UAC/5 if it doesn't jam or overheat. It fires AC/2 rounds at AC/5 range but 6x rate of fire. That's 12 damage per BRRRRT, UAC/5 only does 10 damage.

RAC/2 does more damage for less weight just on the tabletop, even before you factor in PGI giving AC/2s a faster rate of fire than other autocannons in-game.

The Timber Wolf is better than every other Clan Heavy except the Night Gyr and at times the Summoner. The Orion IIC is a great pure brawler but the brawling TBR has its advantages over it.

Most Clan heavies specialize in speed. The 375XL it has IS its specialization.

The EBJ is a flatout worse TBR, as is the MDD, and the HBR's only claim to fame is ECM and hitboxes compared to either of them.

Timber is a walking CT and if you for some reason take missiles then you gain even easier to hit side torsos.

The Summoner is flat out the better brawler and even the onion beats it out in terms of pure staying power via extra armor.

The timbers one excellent point in ppcgoose is so out classed by the nightgyr timbers only get brought to MRBC because of the duplicates rules.

For midrange the hellbringer with its superior hitboxes and exact same speed with ecm round out the clan heavies.

If you want speed the linebacker is the clear winner here with awesome accel and decel quirks that let it dodge enemy ppc shots while trading like a boss.

The timberwolf is just the old mech clearly outclassed by the new mechpack robots like so many IS chassis in the past.

The TBR's CT is not that difficult to defend. It has lengthy side torsos and it spreads damage wonderfully, so I don't really know what you're talking about. The Summoner is not a better brawler, the Summoner uses 5ASRM6 (+2 flamers if you have the pods) with arm mount majority and ghost heat being triggered per alpha, compared to the TBR that can use 4ASRM6 + 6SPL for much more damage that is more precisely placed. The extra size of the side torsos with SRMs is not a huge deal because you're brawling anyways, people aren't going to miss. In comparison the Summoner has a far worse LT hitbox with its missile pod up there.

The Orion IIC can't take jumpjets or put out that level of hurt either. Its extra armour helps but it doesn't have stellar hitboxes nor can it match the speed of the Timber. The Hellbringer doesn't compare to the Timber Wolf at all, ECM does not make up for the lack of firepower you bring comparatively nor the lack of jumpjets and armour. HBR is probably the rarest of any of these except the Mad Dog in comp because it offers nothing substantial. It and the EBJ both just run builds the TBR does but worse. Maps like mining collective show off the advantages of the brawler TBR compared to Orions, since they can play the rooftop, and at 60/68 vs 84 damage alphas the TBR comes ahead of both the Summoner and Orion in damage output and more than makes up for the loss of armour.

The TBR is still a great mech that compares favourably to the majority of its competition.

The difference between max jump jet skills + 3x class 1 JJ highlander and a non-skilled, 3x class 1 JJ highlander is that you basically get roughly like 0.75 of an extra class 1 jump jet.

Even a Heavy Metal with 5x class 1 jump jets saw only like an upper bodies worth of extra jump jet height with all skills, and that's TEN fucking cancer inducing tons worth of jump jets.

The jump jet skill tree is utterly atrocious, and will does not help highlanders or jumpjets in any way.

Mechs with loads of jump jets already jump good, mechs with few jump jets do not get as big of a benefit from the jump jet skill tree because all the benefits are fucking percentage based. You're better off spending those 17-20 points in something useful like radar deprivation, more consumables or extra structure/ armor bonuses.

If you are gonna suggest other builds I'm letting you know I'm not interested in one that includes gauss as I already have a dedicated gauss sniper and I want to try other things.

Also, the +8 Armor in the -C variant is really tempting, but I wasn't able to come up with something that made me happy, 2 UAC10 +2 LGP + LRM 20 artemis + tag was what I came up with. I don't know if 2 missl slot are enough to justify SRM's.

Took like 2 minutes, but soloed a cyclops by shooting him on the but with the spider 5k, tourmaline, I even end up having to do heat managment to prevent overheating by shooting the 1MPL, jesus.

He finished the game with 38 dmg btw.

Is there any actual strategy to this game? It seems to mostly be an illusion. You have tons of options but no point making any exotic teams. Using the default weapons will get you through the game.
