IS mechs are mostly unviable in pugs. Moreso after the skill tree update that will remove all quirks. It's still alive, but PGI's doing a damn good job trying to kill it. Pugging is still a crapshoot of people that know at least somehow how to play the game and the assaults DC'ing at start, people not targeeting, and trying to leg a mech when the CT is in the red or running away from a mech with no weapons.

Alright, so, quick rundown and description of the Clan factions in MWO.

>Clan Jade Falcon
Traditionalist to Clan social dogma, in both its good and bad sides. Most clans warrior castes don't like freeborn (people born traditionally), and Jade Falcon is no exception, but their strict adherence to tradition and personal honor leads them to treat their civilian castes with respect and perform their duties to them on a regular basis. Unlike clans like Ghost Bear, Wolf or Smoke Jaguar, Jade Falcon civilians (99% freeborn) enjoy the highest and most stable standards of living.

Jade Falcon trueborn (the warrior caste who are genetically engineered and bred in artificial wombs in groups that consist of dozens of siblings) distrust freeborn because both of historically verified stereotypes, but also because their duties as trueborn demand them to. Trueborn hold great power in clan society, but they are supposed to exercise it with wisdom and patience. They're considered one of the most highly skilled group of warriors the Clans have to offer, only bested by the balls-to-the-wall superb fighting prowess of Smoke Jaguar warriors. Their particular emphasis on personal honor and accountability among Trueborn means they will either do it or face humiliation from their peers and fellow kin. This emphasis on honor also means they get fucked over by inner sphere subterfuge and betrayals rather often, which further fuels their distrust and growing contempt of freeborn, especially those not of Clan Jade Falcon. But when they've been pissed off, Jade Falcon warriors are known to go just as balls-to-the-wall superb in ferocity to seek justice and vengeance upon those who betrayed their trust or honor.

Their most preferred mechs are: Kit Fox, Hellbringer, Summoner. Jade Falcons consider marksmanship as a measure of skill, and so prefer mobile mechs with ranged firepower.

The most liberal of the Clan factions, their warrior cast holds the least contempt for freeborn, but that doesn't mean the trueborn particularly like them. However Wolf trueborn, despite their supposed show of liberating values for freeborn, don't make it easy, actively working to hamper or stifle the advancement or acceptance of freeborn into the warrior caste. Wolf civilians also cannot boast with a high standard of living and healthcare like Jade Falcon or Ghost Bear civilians can, but they're undoubtedly better off than the majority of the civilians of the Inner Sphere.

Clan Wolf fighting is usually most like a modern military; they gather as much intel as they can, then try to formulate elaborate strategies and battle plans that will enable them to achieve swift and efficient victory.

Their most preferred mechs are: Gargoyle, Ice Ferret and Timber Wolf. The Wolves love laser heavy weapon loadouts, as it allows them to enact their elaborate strategies and tactics without the assistance of nearby supply lines.

Their entire schtick is "wait and see." To a fault, they'll just sit by and watch others act and react before throwing their chips in wherever they think they'll be guaranteed to get the greatest benefits. Their unique to the clans in the sense that they consider everyone part of Clan Ghost Bear, freeborn and trueborn, as part of a great family. So unlike with other factions, if you pick a fight with one Ghost Bear clansman you're likely to pick a fight with the entire Ghost Bear clan, from freeborn civilian to trueborn warrior. Their economy isn't particularly strong, but they're second to Clan Wolf in the number of freeborn as part of the warrior caste. Though the trueborn often belittle and disregard the opinions and achievements of their freeborn kin.

Ghost Bears hold grudges. HARD. Slights against them have a chance to stew and fester to the point that they'll do something completely retardedly overblown they measure as equal revenge. Such as spacing innocent civilians seeking refuge from genocidal slant-eyed subhumans because a few warriors from another clan bested them in combat trials or declined their demands.

Their preferred mechs are: Executioner, Ice Ferret, Mad Dog, Kodiak. Ghost Bears like hitting extra hard, so hard that their opponent can't get back up when they deem to participate in the fight, and so have their mechs geared towards survivability and heavy ordnance.

Their entire modus operandi is often described by players as "JAG HARDER!" Which means that if something fails or isn't working out, double down and MAKE it work.

They have the worse economy of the 4 Clans present in MWO, their civilian castes often at the level of inner sphere serfs in terms of quality of life. Their entire Clan is geared towards their military industrial complex, and the development of the "perfect warrior" program. Each Smoke Jaguar warrior tries to outdo both their predecessor and their kinsmen in terms of combat prowess, strategic and tactical acumen, but their desire for glory and honor over all often leads to them forgetting the importance of strategy and instead fighting like insane super soldiers mowing down anything thrown at them. Smoke Jaguars are known for how good they are at piloting mechs and their disdain for freeborn. They rarely if ever allow freeborn to be part of their military companies, because they mistrust freeborn and consider them outright scum in many cases.

The importance of glory-seeking and the gain of honor that is instilled into each Smoke Jaguar trueborn warrior leads them to think that anyone not trueborn simply does not have the capacity to become the perfect warrior, or at least the next step towards that goal, like they have. Notable examples of this are cases where a Smoke Jaguar warrior gets so agitated by inner sphere mockery that they break formation and destroyed enemy formations many times more powerful than the mech they were in thought capable of.

There's 4 basic scenarios in invasion

>IS team vs Clan randoms

Team v Team is irrelevant in this case so we can ignore that.
If randoms go vs team they're basically guaranteed to get btfo.
But if clan randoms go vs IS randoms, the clan randoms are almost guaranteed to lose because of the tonnage advantage. I can't remember winning even a single invasion game with fair teams after the tonnage fuckery, there's literally no point to playing the mode when you're guaranteed to lose unless you hit the extremely unlikely scenario of you+big stack vs. IS randoms.

Here are your actual scouting mechs:

ERSL build is slightly more heat efficient, or you can put on 4x machineguns as supplementary weapons. Worse firepower than the SPL build though.

c-SPL build is shorter range, but has considerably greater burst potential than the 12 ERSL version. You will have 20 DHS, which will allow you to fire your two 36 damage per fist arms 4-5 times, resulting in 144 - 180 damage to a mechs side or center torso if they're within 198m (moduled c-SPL range). Considered to be the quintessential anti-quirked IS medium brawling mech.

>Huntsman with 6-8x SRMs

Huntsman with 6x SRM6's with artemis. 9,5 tons of ammo, maximum armor. Basically you're a miniature mad dog, you will need to pray to netcode gods on a regular basis for steady hits. At close range (Where all scouting matches eventually end up when the engagement begins), you'll be able to three-hit destroy pretty much anything. Builds a bit hot, though, so if you want drop 2 tons of ammo and put on a couple extra double heatsinks.

Alternative huntsman requires hero mech Pakhet. 8x SRM4's with artemis, fired in two groups of 4. Less burst than the SRM6 by 4 points of damage, but better accuracy with the missiles and faster rate of fire. If you do get the Pakhet for this build, I recommend grouping our missiles into Arms, chest, then chainfire groups for both. Also a really hot build once you've fired fore a while, doesn't have much heat dissipation.

>Hunchback IIC-A with laser vomit

Hunchback IIC-A with 4x Medium pulse and 4x small pulse is a laser vomit brawl build. This particular build has the medium pulses to start the engagement at 350 meters, outside the IS srm range, and the small pulses as an added DPS boost. You have 20 DHS, a targeting computer for extra crit chance, 2 jump jets and an XL270 that allows you to run 90kph with speed tweak. Short burn times allow you to shoot and twist.

Fire in groups of 3>2 volleys

Use your advanced range to keep out of the griffon shooting range.

Use your flamers liberally to force a shutdown and probably a coolant usage.

If they shutdown and your not over 50% heat you've won.

Regular SRM6s just have way too much spread to do well against mediums even at super close range. Even if you score a complete hit with all your missiles its not going to be very pin pointed.

It's funny how I'm not seeing any of the supposed clan mechs being overpowered during actual play. If you're playing solo on the clan side basically most invasion games are either "you're solos against a group and you lose" or "you're solos against solos, and you lose because the tonnage advantage and hp-quirked IS mechs steamrolling you"

The clan domination in FP is basically all tryhards tryharding and stacking on the same side. IS solos will still lose against an organized group retardless of the advantages and clans have way more organized groups dropping. Look at the Tukayiid leaderboard and how much lead Smoke Jaguars have on literally every other faction, even the other clans are more or less equal on score with the IS ones. And because SJ is shitstomping everyone on the IS side and taking their score, all the other clans are actually doing worse than the IS factions because they aren't playing against Smoke Jags and still just equal.

IS mediums with bonkers quirks make for easier victories. Clans now HAVE to play brawler nova, splathuntsman or laser hunchback or face getting rolled. Which is what is happening to the dumbass faggots bringing shadowcats, arctic cheetahs or adders to scouting.
