Adachi's reveal as the killer always hit me hard, because through the whole game he was a genuinely nice, albeit a tad goofy and carefree dude that seemed to care about Dojima and other people, so when you confront him and find out it was all a lie it hits you like a fucking truck

Persona 3 was the most "this is the end of the world" vibe to it. Death was literally at everyone's door and there were even apocalyptic cults dedicated to Nyx. The streets grew more littered and you get a real sense of dread. So you face Death head on and even though you cannot truly stop Death itself, you still give people the hope to continue fighting for their own reasons to live in the hopes that they will accept death when it's time. The cycle of death and life continues rather than being halted entirely by just death and misery. Persona 3 had a nice build up to its endgame, from Strega, to seeing the town be more unsettling over time. That said, Persona 3's endgame also felt rather... drawn out. January was boring. December was also kind of boring. You had some pretty tight schedules for Social Links, and since the Full Moon bosses were defeated, there wasn't really any big threats left aside from Nyx itself.

Persona 5's endgame felt a bit more tacked on. You take down Shido and then... nothing. It feels anti climactic. Then all of a sudden, the public doesn't believe in you, you fade from existence, and... Yaldy wants total control? A little bit more build up would have been nice. That said, you get empowered by the wishes of everyone in Tokyo, got to summon super Satan and gave a decisive headshot to what was essentially God. I think that's pretty damn cool.

Persona 4 on the other hand was... pretty tame in comparison. Then again the game was rather tame. It's in a small rural town rather than the big cities of the other two. I guess a more subdued endgame is fitting. You did get the fog leaking out and making the streets feel more perilous, and it was also more of a personal quest since your little sister's life was basically at stake. Then all of a sudden... bam, Japanese goddess. Her overall impact feels a bit... less than Nyx and Yaldabaoth, but maybe Persona 4 is just... less than Persona 3 and Persona 5 in terms of scale and scope.

The lack of buildup is intentional, Yaldy was working behind the scenes from the start and makes his move with basically no warning. It's supposed to fill you with dread and make you think that everything you did was totally pointless.

It's why the scene with everyone disintegrating feels like a legit bad end and not just a scene where a bad thing happens.

The lack of a triumphant feeling after beating Shido's Palace is quite awkward and hollow but it's definitely intentional.
