I think SE is going to realize they fucked up once SB actually hits.

Yoshida kept saying shit like "Well we don't think people change roles much because most of the people who went on to play Dark Knight started off as another tank".

But for one thing, it's easy to say "Hm, looks like nothing changed" when you actually introduce new classes of each role in proportion, especially when the DPS they introduce is the least cool/interesting of the three new classes.

And more importantly, he's just wrong about it - while the number of tanks overall eventually did taper off to being about the same as in ARR once Heavensward was up to 3.2-3.3 or so, Dark Knights fucking DOMINATED the queues for the first couple months of HW, which are the most important when it comes to making a good impression on players. DPS queues were extremely short through all of 3.0 and most of 3.1, specifically because people were still really psyched to play Dark Knight. Those first few months matter a whole lot more than the year and a half that comes afterward, and it's really stupid of them not to realize that.
