For best difficulty, I really wanted to put FE11/FE12 since the enemies are tough/accurate enough to the point where enemy phase tanking doesn't really work on the higher difficulties. A lot of the killing needs to happen on your turn to be safe. It's a shame stuff like horrendous unit balance/12 mov flying same turn reinforcements really kills that element for me

Don't really care much about plot, but I think FE4's world is pretty cool, I also think Thracia's map/story integration is really good

No, it does not get a pass because it's the first game. It is in fact fair that it is worse than its successors. That does not change its value as a game, because it was still good when it came out. Saying 11 is worse is fucking retarded you neanderthal.

That said, not judging games you haven't played is in fact the right thing to do, so younger a half-pass.

Still, Shadow Dragon is a very well balanced game that is better than many games in the series. 2,6 come I mind. Very polished and very well balanced.

What do you mean? I'm not saying that playing without bonus items is better because it's harder, I'm saying that people who want to enjoy FE Conquest should choose not to use bonus items because they will get a more balanced difficulty which will likely be more enjoyable for them.

For example, you could choose to play an lunatic but also get the maximum online boosts so Corrin has stats in the 30s by chapter 7. If someone is thinking about using that sort of method to make your lunatic playthrough harder, I would strongly encourage them to pick hard mode (without bonus items) instead.

As someone who "broke" Conquest Lunatic with all the DLC bonuses, Renown bonuses, and My Castle abuse, I can assure you Conquest Lunatic is still very much challenging.

It's still a mode that requires thought and focus, and those extra crutches really don't improve your chances of seeing the route through to the end. The stat bonuses and extra weapons certainly help during early-game by allowing you to babysit your units less, but you really can't rely on those bonuses alone during mid- and late-game. The only time those bonuses really provided a largely significant advantage for me was during Endgame where I needed to buy a bunch of damage-boosting skills from My Castles to ORKO Tacomeme, but I don't see a whole lot of people who would berate others for cheesing that literal hell of a map.

I'm not trying to berate anyone.
But just look at your own experience; you got significant boosts in the early game, couldn't rely on them in the mid and late-game, and then relied on them in the endgame. Doesn't that throw off the balance? I think Conquest has a really good difficulty curve as it gradually gets harder (most FE games become easier towards the end).
I guess you could consider "lunatic + bonus stuff" as a difficulty setting slightly below standard lunatic. It's totally okay if you want to play that way, I just think that the standard hard and lunatic difficulties are what IS balanced.

If you play Conquest in the future, will you play it the same way or without bonus stuff?

I made the unfortunate decision to play Conquest Lunatic blind at launch which is why I ended up using bonuses. Even knowing now what to expect, I don't think my mind is ready for that mind-numbing experience again—especially without those little boosts here and there. If I ever get around to playing Conquest again, it'll probably be on Hard mode without bonuses.I'm not entirely sure how big of a gap the change in difficultly would be, but I'm sure it would be a much more pleasant experience with at skill-level.

It kind of upsets me that there isn't a middle-ground between Hard and Lunatic anymore with Maniac like in FE12. I'd love to see Maniac modes again. Just hard enough to push my mind over the edge and really put my knowledge to the test, but not so hard that smashing my testicles with a hammer sounds like a more enjoyable experience.
