I was just in a game with someone who everyone else in the game recognized and who was apparently a 'god widow' and pro streamer, to the point where they all started screaming about it over the microphone and telling each other to 'screenshot this'.

It's a mix of a couple things. One is your predicted chance of winning and another is how you performed in the match relative to other people playing that hero. You also have cases like right after placements where you get a SR boost for the next ~50 matches since placements are designed to start you off lower than your actual mmr. This is meant to give you something positive at the beginning of the season as you should see yourself climbing to where you belong.

because someone unstealthing behind you and instagibbing you is hard to balance. In most PvP games with stealth characters, they're usually totally overpowered vs new players (who won't know they're there) and completely useless vs higher-level players (who know how to read their tells)

Sombra is actually one of the BEST designed stealth characters in any multiplayer game, because she's instead designed to be a constant harasser that is very hard to take down, and instead of killing people, supports her teammates with CC and healing.

Personally, Genji's more like a middle of flank, attack, and defense because of Deflect. You can be a two second shield for your teammates or you can push from behind the enemy team and do crazy damage.

But, because he can't self heal, you'll have to know the map layouts inside and out. Flip side, he has flanking routes that most characters can't take. You also need a lot of game sense to play Genji and landing his shuriken a lot more. Since Swift strike resets after every elimination, you can start a crazy snow ball where the rests let you keeping the damage up.

Just try him out and see if you like him.
