I assume snorlags "bunnyhop" means just repeately jumping, which is kinda redundant.

For those of you who don't have a beta key and want to know what the game is like:

Sorlag, Clutch, and Scalebearer are just there to get killed/be that annoying faggot who kills you outta nowhere.

Ranger and Visor actually take skillz to win

Nyx, Slash, Anarki, and Galeena are what I'd like to call insta-winners as in if you see 3 of these characters in your lobby, they will be in the top 3

Nyx is the least cancerous of the 4, though her invisibility can get the slip on you. Visor can easily counter this shit.

Anarki's health regen is annoying as shit and should be lowered or non existent

Slash's red queefs of death are a get out of "jail free" card in any close range situation. Not to mention her crouch slide makes her fucking impossible to hit at times

Galeena has absolute dogshit hitreg and can heal.

Either id gets its head out of its ass and fixes this shit ASAP, or the only reason people will play this is for classic mode

Ranger appeals to people that arent that familiar with strafe jumping/circle jumping and has good mobility.
Visor appeals to the VQ3 vets who can get insane stuff done with only strafing, Anarki is the CPM champ, Nyx is Warsow, Slash is Q4.

Clutch's ability is only good if you have SSG/Rocket/Rail. His damage reduction passive is a trap.
Big characters are just not that good because along with having bigger hitboxes they're generally slower.

Only if we were talking about CTF or defrag. In the situations where it matters most, combat, Ranger is faster than Visor and therefore you are more likely to shake your opponent's crosshair or projectile predictions. Visor is only fast inbetween fights, Ranger is fast during fights.

Barely a thing with the current netcode. Ranger's orb teleportation has a 100% success rate as long as you teleport before the thing hits a wall. Rocket jumping is already kinda worthless in most modes in QL (except CA). It only really pays off if you're in control in a duel. The server side fuckery in QC makes it unusable imo. I might change my opinion once I play more, I've only played a couple hours yesterday.

Scout is far from easy to pick up due to how fragile he is. You have to get in close for the Scattergun to do real damage (otherwise it's just a shittier Shotgun) but that's also the range where most classes will shred your 125hp health pool with a sneeze. I was also very disappointed because I heard an interview with 2GD saying that it would have a unique movement system that would persist into combat and the the gameplay comes and its essentially just quake but a little different

Every match I've played all players have had pings under 50 according to the scoreboard, yet everyone was lagging around like crazy. When people went up jumppads you could see them teleport into the air in front of you, one frame there would be nothing, the next the player would be up in the air in front of you. That's what I mean when I refer to netcode being terrible.

And rockets are delayed. Put 1 and 1 together, I assume rockets are server side, hence the delay. The ingame pings clearly mean nothing. Not with the current netcode any way.

I'm not making this up. There is no rocket delay. I'm in Iowa on the Iowa servers on the meanest, biggest, meatiest internet connection you can get on a $3000 rig. Rockets are clearly server side and feel accurate and responsive as all hell to me because of it. I have no doubt that they have netcode issues that they need to fix that is fucking up people with less than perfect connections that are causing rocket delay and all sorts of issues for other people. Just not here.

Visor just has no speedcap.
Sorlag need to jump straight forward, no strafe to make it actually work and he still has a speedcap.

I often think people underestimate the current speedcaps.
You can gain up to 450+ ups with one circle jump and up to 550+ with just 2 jumps.
A lot of chars are already capped at those numbers, kinda aids.

I'll hold off judgement until after they fix RL, fix hitreg, fix netcode, add the remaining 4 game modes, and add more maps in general. until then I remain cautiously optimistic.

I started playing QL like 2-3 years ago, with not much experience in Q3/CPMA(I played some defrag back in the day tho, so I was familiar with the movement). I fucking hate team modes, so I played nothing but duel most of the time. I don't know, I lost maybe 30 or 50 duels before I got my first win, but it was great experience, I had a lot of fun because I actually saw my improvement. I went from 900 glicko to 1700 in a couple of months, not too much but at least I can stand my ground now.
So why all these new people are so afraid of losing and learning? Quake is a fun game, after all, just don't play CA if you new.

I take it back, he's awful. It's so much more difficult to avoid enemy fire. Presumably because of his awful speed / acceleration and large hitbox. Once someone put a LG on me I was assured to die. The gimmicky charge kills don't go anywhere near to account for his weaknesses.

yeah LG and SMG are the absolute bane of any tank
if you get caught out while jumping you're just gonna get knockeback to a standstill
the trick is to abuse your environment and abilities as much as possible to make it hard for people to chase you
never chase others unless you know they're low hp
use RL, RG, and SG over continously shooting guns like LG so that you can a) abuse corners and b) burst down your enemies' hp before that can take advantage of your large hitbox
unfortunately with the current state of the RL being so hard to use for those who don't have fibre tanks are unecessarily hard to use
though maybe a few lighter classes could handle a few small nerfs to even to playing field

You can weave in the air, hit small platforms easier (Though there aren't a lot of those at the moment) and do sharper turns without any loss to momentum. You might also be able to ramp with it but there's nowhere in the current map pool to reliably test ramping.

Clutch is a RG god. Anarki and Nyx can be one-shot, you can two-shot almost everything else. 150+100 takes 3 RG shots, or 2+change RL shots, and that's plenty of time to put two RG shots into your attacker. Since you move slowly while zoomed anyway, you can hold shift and walk for a 20% damage reduction, taking 80 from a zoomed RG shot, meaning you might take up to FOUR RG shots if you're against a sniper competitor.

With Barrier as an ability, leaving you invulnerable from an attacker for at least 50% of the time between your own RG shots, Clutch is a mean lean beast when in a good position. Despite being ripped apart by HMG/MG and LG and potentially being bagged on spawn position because he's slow, once he's built up he's very hard to bring down. Get a shotgun and bully people with barrier to get rolling early, and once you get rolling don't miss your RG shots.

Timing Clutch's barrier cooldown for protection on somebody else picking up Quad spawn in TDM can be huge. He's a character to constantly nab hourglasses on.

Also apparently you get an outline on Nyx if she goes invis while you have barrier active or something.

and your client will try to send an update to the server for every frame you have. So the more frames you have, the more updates the server gets on you, assuming your router doesn't commit sedoku

who knows what's happening if the server/client gets desynced, because I've never experienced rubberbanding or weird time lapses. Or how the server handles dudes on remote desktop operation of a toaster emulating a jailbroken iphone using a satellite connection after reflecting AM waves off a cloud to get to the receiver on the other side of a mountain. Who knows if the server is just sending a bunch of interpolation and only putting together real updates once every second, or whatever.

Worst I've ever had was activating Clutch's barrier, get visibly RGed through the barrier, and respawn with the Barrier unused, and a Slash who travelled through time and space so hard a bunch of level 29s would get hit by pizza cutters before they could physically see the Slash. Some pretty awful stuff, but there were plenty of super smooth games I didn't even think about.

though nyx isnt one of the stomp champs, shes the perfect champ if there is someone really good on the enemy team since you can just f and take positional advantage

i havent played visor, but ranger is a guaranteed loss if the enemy has a galena or anarki at the same level as you

97/5 does not die to a zoomed rail, you are left with 2 hp. Armor is essentially HP except it's not taken at 2:1 ratios.

For example: If you're at 100/100 and take a zoomed rail, you should be at 67/33.

Anarki starts at 75/25, so going to 75/30 will leave you at 5 after.

I just looked back at a vod.
144/132 -> 142/126 from starting MG (8 dmg). It took -2/-6 = -8

Another time, I was at 150/4, took an MG shot (8), and went to 146/0, -4/-4 = -8

As Clutch, standing still (20% damage reduction) and tanking an unzoomed railshot (80), I went from 150/146 to 134/98, -16/-48 = -64 which is -20% off 80.

The ratio has changed to 1:3 in this game it looks like.

Back when I started people were essentially trash. The entire community got better very quickly. I remember for example how easy it was to play spy in 2008, but as players got better fooling them got much harder, which is why spy was buffed constantly over the course of the years.

My big fear about Quake Champions is the probably lack of mod tools.

Community building maps is what gave Quake such a long lifespan, they need to be on the ball like Valve was with TF2 and add quality maps to the official game.

I played nothing but the arena mode from around 2008-2010 or so. I had so much fun and felt awful when I went back to it around 2015 and found that arena mode completely died. You felt like a god when your entire team was dead and you pulled off a solo win.
