Quick question about uplifting a species. I found one in the bronze age so when the progress bar completes will it only move them to the iron age or will they go straight to space travel? Cause if its only to the iron age I dont think there is enough time in the game to uplift them.
>>
>>174690896
Strawman? Are you getting butthurt because I insulted the waifu race?

Name one fucking flaw about them, they are the most advanced, most powerful, the most peaceful, live a zillion years and they are all attractive and to every, from us to space-raptors
>>
>>174690903
Its enlightening, not uplifting.

And yeah, they jump straight into FTL.
>>
>>174690903

That's not uplifting, that's enlightenment. And they will go straight to the space age, with your techs. They will spawn a new empire, as your protectorate, meaning they can't really do anything without your consent. You may choose to integrate them into your own empire later on, gaining their ships, planets, etc.

Uplifting is when you find a pre-sentient species on a planet. These species usually have unique traits and you have to settle on the planet to be able to uplift them.

>>
>>174691013

Yeah, that'll do good. Xenophobe can be dangerous for a new player since most others will hate you from the get go, even more so since you chose Repugnant.

Your ships will always win an equal engagement due to the immense fire rate boosts from DA, f-militarist and high level admirals.

Personally I'd drop enduring so you can also drop repugnant, if that's possible. Enduring is extremely good, but since you have DA as a civic and are a militaristic nation, it's not as good since if a leader dies you can immediately replace them with someone nearly as good.

I don't know why you two are flinging shit about Mass Effect in this thread, but the fact of the matter is that 99% of Mass Effect wars are apparently decided by ground combat, judging by the series
And the Biotic fuckery of ME1 and explosions of ME3 mean Biotics can beat anything
If Krogans were Vanguards in the canon, that would change
>>
>>174692225
What really needs to be buffed is defense stations desu

It seems that, at best, you can make a defense station that has fleet strength equal to 1/10 -> 1/20 a main sized fleet no matter the tech era, so no matter how you look at it they're useless

And turning a system into a flower arrangement of defense stations that still die easily one by one is not the solution

Asari have natural biotics (he's comparing this to psychic powers like mind control), whereas other species in Mass Effect require implants to channel their latent biotic powers. Asari can do it from birth.

They are a spiritual race, however, not materialist in the slightest. Gods and psionic powers should translate to them being spiritualists.

They're also presented as hilariously incompetent despite all these amazing natural strengths as 90% of them spend 500+ years acting like dumb space sluts.
Species that have only been galactic players for less than a century accomplished more in that time than the asari did in a millennia.

At least that's what I got from them, knowing bioware this wasn't the intentional presentation though.
>>
>>174692350
Krogan knew what they were doing by rebelling and were deliberately attacking the entire galactic community, humans didn't know shit about the council or anything and weren't the aggressor, and they hardly won, they managed to, with their entire military might, barely push out a very small fraction of a single races military. The entire conflict started because humans didn't know shit about galactic law and once the council actually got involved they told the turians to fuck off being enormous dicks for ignoring first contact procedure and actually explained to humans why opening new relays was a real bad idea and gave them the standard new council member treatment.

It's one of the few sensible things in the setting.

Do you think it might be preferable if in Stellaris there were techs that allowed for multiple pops to persist on a single tile of a planet? Basically "building taller" techs so if you saw fit, you could focus primarily on packing your planets with more and more pops as an alternative to spreading your species out?

Presumably your homeworld could have an inate bonus to this so even without focus you can still squeeze in 2 pops/tile, or possibly make it tied to habitability so there's a reason to bother with that in end game empires with obscene amounts of technology?

Just brainstorming, would love to get your opinions.

The problem is end game is still a bit too easy compared to early game, relative to difficulty settings. Also unity doesnt have any end game use
There just needs to be more balance for peaceful vs conquering playstyle. Diplomacy traditions need to be buffed about 3 times as hard so that it isnt useless as fuck, and they need to make factions better.
There also needs to be a mechanic to stop blobbing really fast.

>>
>>174693972
Blobbing could partly be solved by cutting fleet caps and instituting command caps for admirals. A big cause of blobbing is the sheer time investment in creating a full powered fleet so the optimal play is blobbing to kill the enemy fleet and hope yours survives. If total fleet size was smaller and split into numbers of task forces that were quick to reinforce wars would be a lot more dynamic and blobbing would largely vanish.

Different anon but not really. Plasmas are OP because their M size version has a ridiculous 80% armour penetration, lasers only have 30% which doesn't make up for their malus against shields. Just stick to a full M slot cruiser with the best weapon you have until then, aim for endgame cruisers having 1 L kinetic artillery and the rest M plasma. The artillery strips shields from long range and unlike other anti shield weapons KEEPS them down, plasma burns through hull.
>>
>>174694303
Tech costs were supposed to stop the blobbing, but there's not really any hard benefit to stuff like that.

Personally I think your given government shouldnt have a core system limit but an actual optimal system capacity, which is improved with governing technology and eventually removed by the later half of the mid game.

The capacity each colony uses would depend on its distance and maybe a sort of centraliization policy so you could have varying levels of central control in your nation and trade ethics divergence for more colonies outright, but with potential backlash when you centralize later. Personally I find sectors are wholly poorly realized.

The only mechanic that can stop blobbing is one that doesnt exist yet.
Unity can be of use besides blue mana. Add another use called FEALTY. Its a new system that goes something like this:
>every leader and sector has a fealty score that you build with unity points
>every planet must have a governor, or else you have to give it to a sector
>the more leaders/sectors/larger sectors you have the lower the default fealty

what is it with people and the "Missiles are great against corvettes"-meme then. Missiles are slow as shit and don't do enough damage for that
>>
>>174696326
Missiles are actually the best starting weapon, but that's all they are. Kinetics are "best" because they're the best end game and thanks to random cards you can't start missiles for quick torps before switching to kinetics because techs are a crapshoot.
>>
>>174696439
Missiles only work early game. They waste too much time and damage potential in flight to work against a late game death blob.
>>
How do I enable mods on my pirated version? They show up in the launcher and they look like they're selected, but they don't work (even the checksum stays the same)
>>
>>174696439
At the absolute earliest game they're best because stacks are too small for overkill to matter, PD isn't in play yet and everyone is using the most evasive ship but by the time you start being able to wage proper war people have bigger fleets and PDs.

He might have went against destroyers. Corvettes seem to only target destroyers before other corvettes, so they end up getting shredded by the enemy corvettes. Makes early game war very dependent on having destroyers of your own.

I'm assuming you're still in the corvette spam stage of the game with those fleet powers, battles are really unpredictable at that point. But with how hard you got destroyed it sounds like your fleet setup wasn't that optimal either.

I'm making my own mod and I've done several mods for CK2 so I should roughly know how it works
I did install a random mod from SKYMOD just to see if it works (it doesn't)

And in the file

I just think adding another abstract resource is superfluous. Leaders imo don't even make sense much as is.

Like, something I sort of think is that Leader "generation" should be more automated, where leaders are created when relevant, as in:
Each Science Field has a de facto leader who gives benefits to everything relevant to them. They all have a specialty which influences tech pop ups (so a physics leader who specializes in Energy Field will generate more research in said field.)
Research ships and the like are based on a capacity sort of ordeal. They'd be assigned a captain when they're launched.
Planets would start with a Colonial Expedition Leader and then a Planetary (Leader), whose title is dependent on your own governing style. Planets would have their own internal elections periodically (presumably starting on the second normal election tick after they reach 5 pops) with leaders generated based on the factions who are relevant on the planet (even if you have a xenophobe faction, if no pops on the planet are Xenophobes they will have no sway on elections.)
Sectors would work the same way, so it'd be like a normal 3 tiered Federal/Provincial(or State)/Municipal system.
Factions would also, imo, need to be multifaceted so you could have multiple parties that are Xenophobic in some respect but also have a secondary interests, and Pop ethics should probably be expanded to either a sliding scale between all of the main ethics (and then your factions could have their own electability modifiers and such) or just back to how it used to be. I also think non-immigrant minorities that aren't treated as optimally would found their own racial specific parties that would promote the ethics and interests of that given race, so that unfriendly neighbor you ate's pops would all bloc up in a single faction instead of fragmenting into all of the existing ones.

Utopia has made great strides in improving the ingame but there's a LOT of work that needs to be done.

I know Paradox wanted to maintain map painting traditions, but I still feel it would've been better off where systems were actively claimed by colonies and Frontier Outposts outright as opposed to just big blobbery. Would make it so a war between empires would actually require you to ruin FOs as you progress. It'd also allow for multiple factions to build stations in one given system for lovely disputes. Border friction could work based more on that than just adjacency, since on a stellar scale that shit doesnt even make sense anyway.

optimal perk setup for the four first perks:
voidborne (the bonuses of the other perks aren't good enough to justify taking longer in the endgame, so you wait until you get the tech and then immediately take the perk for habitats)
the one that makes stations cheaper and shit
synthetic ascension 1
synthetic ascension 2
>>
>>174705010
>picks mastery of nature as first perk
I usually only pick mastery of nature when I'm playing hive mind with the Extremely Adaptive trait
>builds battleships
Only a couple in most games. What man doesn't want huge ships with lots of dakka?
>plays on normal
Moved on to insane a while ago
>plays on huge galaxies with 10 or so empires
Usually large galaxy with 13-15 empires
>doesn't probe FEs early on to get that juicy tech
I never even thought about this. Thanks for the tip.
>>
>>174704664
They could do it so their faction gets strengthened or a random pop of that species off the planet is destroyed instead of flat out blocking us from population control.
>>
>>174705147
I'm not even the guy who claimed to be good at the game m8, I suck at Paradox games and would probably lose immediately against any human opponent
However, tech isn't that fucking important, of course it's nice to research everything at lightning speed, but it's not like your level 3 plasma will magically beat a fleet twice your size using level 1 plasma
>>
>>174705217

You can't any of those as a first perk m8
>>
>>174705402
voidborne can be first
the station cost one needs 1 perk selected first
first synth needs 1 perk selected first
second synth needs 3 perks selected first
I guess you can switch that out with any ascension if you hate robots

I tried a large galaxy with 20 empires, around 2310 or so the game became so slow that x3 speed wasn't different from x2

It's possible to change the event to only happen on "final planet in system being surveyed" but my game kept CTD'ing when I did that, so I'll just wait for paradox to unfuck it.

>>
>>174705940
is it the one that stiches ships together in an amalgamation of shit?

>>
>>174705817

Actually, I did. The pic is one of the game's files edited because I couldn't figure out how to remove the science gain event so I set the value to pretty much nothing.

I then made a mod that adds 10% survey speed and 15% sensor range to PSC. It's awful, but I don't really care. I hated how it was mandatory every game, so I removed it. Now games actually last longer than 60 years and I'm not FE-equivalent by 2270.

fuck you, I want to play a totalitarian regime, I don't want to babysit "factions"
>>
>>174706491
I think suppressing a faction is supposed to remove its attraction and slowly make pops switch away from it

Is there any balancing whatsoever with how planet resources are distributed in the galaxy or is Paradox just hoping the law of averages will take care of it?

ok I may be retarded so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Some faggot aliens wanted to fuck me back after I pleacefully purified few planets of their neighbour. I entered defensive war, barely pushed them back nad took the initiative by conquering 2 of their star systems. After 2nd one got a diplomatic message which basicly meant "It was just a prank bro we have peace now"

Is there any way to set war demands as a defender or this is the most stupid wargame diplomacy ever existed?

Please help. I wanted to federation it up but I have no fucking idea how to diplomacy.
Polkadot top right are the dumbass xenophobes that I intended to exile somewhere else and liberate their former bases. I did this by first liberating polkadot bottom left, wait until they colonized somewhere else, then liberated polkadot bottom right.
My plan failed because polkadot bottom right became A DIFFERENT FACTION, not an extension of the original liberated polkadot.
And then I fucked it up real hard.
They wouldn't vassalize so I tried to go to war with them to get them to vassalize and apparently I was in a truce AND THEN green polkadot outta nowhere barges in and assures their independency.

HOW DO I FIX THIS GARBAGE.
My plan is now to just fucking wait out this shitty truce, go to war with shitty second liberated polkadot, demolish green if they try to interfere, then annex shitty second polkadot ASAP.

Probably the pops you conquered have no rights. Get one of your own pops there and you can build armies, or give those guys more rights.

r8 my race of ripped heavyworlder philosophers who rule a people in permanent awe of their chiseled abs and minds of steel.
Full bio:
Ruled by a king chosen from the highest ranks of the warrior monks who rule Pross, the Yldar are a proud spiritual race with strong martial traditions.A society almost completely devoted to the ruling priesthood, Yldarans hold that a persons strength and wisdom directly influence each other, and only through mastering both their mind and their body can true strength in either be attained, and only through true strength can spiritual perfection be achievd, as such their leaders tend to be both frighteningly strong and deviously clever. Internal disputes amongst the Yldaran are rare and will most often be settled by a duel between the disagreeing parties, either with words or with fists. With the advent of spaceflight the Yldar are in a precarious position, born on a world with slightly higher gravity than usual for habitable worlds they have found adapting to lower gravity environments challenging. How will this young race fare in the great void of space?

I plan to change warrior culture for distinguished admiralty around mid game as their sacred duels become irrelevant on the galactic stage and they adapt to focus on space combat instead of personal combat. Strong and nonadaptive is to represent their slight heavyworld backstory

Tough situation anon. I was thankful I read the wiki when attempting to liberate a Xenophobic empire close to me on the game I'm currently playing. However, the draw back is it's harder to get them into a protectorate after the liberation because of the penalty due to their high population.

On that note isn't a Federation only useful when it's an alliance of equal powers? Such as a bunch of Pacifist/Egalitarian civs. It sounds like what you want is to go from Vassal or Protectorate into annexation into your empire. I'm still relatively new to Stellaris so I'm unsure about how diplomacy resolves itself in game. I just know from lurking that federations can become a headache end game when your AI members don't do what you expect them to.

I use http://stellaris.smods.ru/ and the mega workshop repository here: https://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=72091

I use the first for smaller mods and the latter for the bigger ones because skymods is slow. As for installation I install manually in the Stellaris folder under the folder Mod. You have to do a bunch of unzipping though so yeah it gets tedious. You also have to edit the descriptor file and put in the Mod folder. Pic related is what my Mod folder looks like. You have to edit the .mod file to reference the actual mod in the folder. So something like 891425376_Synthetic_Portrait_Pack would have to have a line like this in the descriptor:

>path="mod/891425376_Synthetic_Portrait_Pack"

It can get really tedious if you have a bunch of mods. The one thing bad about being a pirate though is if you managed to fix a bug in one of the mods but can't tell anyone about it on the workshop. It was a pretty easy fix though, so I'm sure the mod author will get around to it eventually.

They achieved space travel in order to escape their god forsaken prison and find a nice planet with long sandy beaches

You also hate everyone who lives in temperate climates because you are jealous of them

Generally, the AI only pick on those weaker than them. Bravery rate determinate the chances of picking rivals and wars with targets of similar strengh.

-Honorbound Warriors
-Democratic Crusaders
-Federation Builders
-Fanatical Befrienders,
-Metalheads (biggest fuckers in the galaxy)

These are the most likely to pick fights with those of equal strength. Everyone else are more cowards and have a tendency to prioritise easier prey.

Of these, Fanatical Befrienders, Metalheads, and Honorbound warriors are the most warlike.

Sometimes. I founds the AI is a lot more proactive about wars if you up the AI aggression to high. They're much more likely to attack a guy they're on equal footing with just because they hate the nigger then.

You are not far off. They think war is friendship, and they call Orbital Bombardment, in all sincerity, as "light shows".
>>
>>174725910

It needs buffs. It's only ok early game, substantially worse than other drives in the late game (nice 90+ day portal generation with max tech lol).

Biggest thing they should do is reduce how fleet size affects the portal creation time. It's fucking stupid how bad it is, where other drives aren't punished anywhere near as bad. It's also the worst drive for when you have to play cat and mouse. It's also terrible for when you go planetary survey corps.

They spam 50k fleets, lots of them. They cleanse planet of population. They relay on shields and energy weapons (disintegrators). To kill them, you have to destroy the dimensional anchors first and then the portal.

No, they have their own counters and stats. Though, you can immediatly research the other ones, and can do it before you meet xenos
It can wreck them easily and cheaply. The supposed counter is swarm missiles, but they were broken and I haven't heard of a fix.
