Seems the Unbidden needs reworking.

They've only taken over about 1/5 of the galaxy and have stacks of 4x 60K fleets on every route into their territory. A FE has awoken but is doing nothing to attack them, and the other empires are just going about business as normal.

I'm just going to cheat desu since it's practically impossible to defeat them.
>>
>>174644737
Playing with friends is OP so having a rough start is nice. I did a MP session a while back but we didn't get very far, the guy who hosted had by far the worst start and yet ended up the most powerful of us because me and the other guy were close by and had to share systems, and we were basically complacent while he was fighting tooth and nail to expand from the start.

>>
>>174645182
Consumer goods and ship upkeep are the only two things that really detract from mineral income. If you changed your living standards for one of the species in your empire to a higher standard, it would increase the consumer goods penalty on your mineral income, similarly if your population is rapidly expanding it would also tax your mineral income more. And obviously you'd know if you were building lots of ships.
>>
>>174644968
How do you fuck up that bad? Unbidden are super easy. Every time I encounter them I barely even have to fight because they get wiped out so fast.
>>
>>174645540

Well thats okay.
We're probably going to restart anyways because one of the other two is new to the game and doesn't understand everything yet, and is experimenting with ethics.

What kind of military build would YOU guys recommend?
Not to say that I just want to straight up purge them or anything, but hey, the option to put them in their place if needed would be nice.
>>
>>174645614
Not really sure what I could do to "git gud."

Their numbers are so overwhelming I have to have a ~100-150k fleet to defeat just one of their doomstacks.

>>174645716
They spawned the other side of the galaxy and the other empires wouldn't let me through until at last I got complete access recently.
>>
>>174645591
>supremacy seem quite useless
Just by adopting it you get +20% border range, which is always nice. And if you want to conquer people then why wouldn't you take supremacy? It lowers warscore costs and fleet upkeep among other things. Diplomacy is pretty garbo though, mostly because diplomacy is a joke in Stellaris.

I just got Endless Space and I'm not very good, but good enough to enjoy with friends. I've played a custom automaton and blockaded myself in and waited for wonder victory, which worked out.

Now I want to try a more militaristic game, so I'm building a custom Hissho faction. Here's what I have:

>Big Fleets ++
>Deadly Weapons +++
>Masters of Destruction ++
>Isotope Fabrication +
>Advanced Machining +
>N-Way Fusion Plants +
>Mineral Rich +
>Headhunter - Pilot +
>Dust Archaeology +
>Dust Impaired --
>Sloppy Sawbones --
>Eternal War -

My goal is obviously to maximize my fleet power while also starting with an ok industry so I can actually make the fleets early. I'm looking for some recommendations on how to better this build though. I've played the first few turns a few times and it seems like I might need to drop something for optimistic +, any thoughts? Core mining + might also be something to switch out for, for the sake of building fleets earlier and also expansion.
>>
>>174646906
Not really, I was playing tall that game. Once you have enough habitat spam up, which doesn't take any more than a few decades, you'll be gaining so much energy you'll need to trade it all to a merchant outpost before you start hitting the cap. I assembled that fleet in less than a decade.

Yeah, they're fucking broken. Once the Build Habitat -> Get Energy -> trade for Minerals -> Build Habitat feedback loop gets going, you'll only stop when you're tired of building and then colonizing them. I think that game I was pulling 1.5k energy a month before I decided it was time to anschluss a nearby FE. After I did the synth ascension, I was at nearly 3k a month. I finally just quit because trading the energy was getting tedious.

Think of it this way.

The species 'homo sapiens' believes that 'Humanity' exists in a state of grace.

'Humanity' has a collection of genetic traits, and so 'homo sapiens' wants to spread 'Humanity' to as many species as possible by genetically altering them to possess those same traits.

I've only played 3 matches so take this with a grain of salt

UI and Controls are wanky, and the game is just Dawn of Eldar 3 as their units outrange and outgun, unless each ork player ive met is really stupid. Havocs don't have suppression anymore it seems and Assault marines don't work if they just kite so SM is limited until late game, haven't got to touch Orks yet.

Basically, megastructures arrive so late in the game that they are totally redundant. A ringworld would be baller as fuck if you were still mid game, but by the time you have all the techs and perks needed to build one it's kinda meh. And by the time it finally finishes the allure of all those gaia tiles is also not so great. Every time I finish a ring world I already have the power to terraform regular planets into gaia worlds so big whoop?
>>
>>174650238
Well, evetything you wrote is right, but in late game on big as you already focused on developing your empire and having fun, not expanding. If your goal is to conquer everybody you propably did this already at this point or your victory is 100% sure.

Unbidden always pop because some fuck always gets jump drive, which is what triggers them to spawn. Prethoryn Swarm will happen if no other crisis happens after 350 years in game AFAIK, they're suppose to be the default crisis. AI requires some one to build synths, research AI, and then keep synths enslaved for it to have chance to show up, which is a rare enough combination of factors for it to basically not exist.

>>
>>174654410
Only the materialist FE will fuck you up for researching dangerous tech, but only if you research enough dangerous tech (usually two or three) so they're more likely to bring the hammer down on someone building waifubots than researching jump drive. Be aware though that just because some one does research jump drive doesn't mean Unbidden are guaranteed to happen, the game basically rolls the dice each time to see to which crisis happens, and certain events just weight it towards different ones.

Personally I'd like some more crises implemented as is . Unbidden and Prethoryn 60k rape fleets are fun and all but once you figure out how to cheese them there's no more enjoyment to be derived out of them, and AI rebellion is almost always anemic unless it spawns in some shit tier weak empire.

Would love to be able to design mining stations, along with science/construction ships.

A mining station built using the combat station frame with a bunch of small/medium turrets that doubles as an outpost because the "outpost" module was moved into the additional effects slot.

An outpost with a crew and maintenance bay so it allows fleets to dock with it for repairs and reductions in maint cost.

A science module in a cruiser hull to make an armed science ship.

A construction ship with multiple repair nanite swarm station module, built into a battleship hull. To make a mobile repair base.

A battleship with a wormhole generation station module, to make a mobile wormhole generator.

They could have done so much with the ship design system.

>>
Guys, I need tips on building an army, everyone has superior fleets to me.
>>
>>174662196

I found out how to make strikecraft useful by accident tbqh. Thanks to tech rng, I had t-5 power cores, but my weaponry was all over the place.

This led to my cruiser design to be something of a pocket battleship with top-tier combat speed and defenses, but somewhat lackluster offense. What ended up happening was them getting tangled up in combat at the same time as my corvettes where they proceeded to absolutely BTFO enemy destroyers and Cruisers at knife-fight range. Since Paradox can't balance for shit, the enemy's flak/PD platforms were already severely weakened by the time my fighters entered the fray and were unironically able to do 10/10 damage to enemy capital ships.

It's not a minmaxed build by any means, and even with 1200 shields and ~60% armor, cruiser losses are horrendous since Wiz made fighters have the slowest combat speed in the game. Still, it's fun

I disagree. Larger planets (super earths) will have increasingly harsh gravity, which will make it exceedingly more difficult for members of the species to get off of their planet in a meaningful way. I would say most spacebound folks would probably be rom smaller worlds, or worlds that arent as dense, with weaker gravity.
>>
>>174672937
But we're talking about species that can travel between star systems. Leaving even the densest planet is trivial compared to that.
>>
>>174672937
smaller planets also have the iron core harden faster. maybe too fast to develop intelligent life

Only by chance. And by chance it's still small enough that we can break out of the atmosphere. Venus or Mars would be far more advantageous to launch spacecraft from because their density and gravity is lower. the 9% difference in gravity between earth and venus may not seem like much, but when you're dealing with a multi hundred thousand ton rocket that's a massive difference from a fuel load standpoint.

A Mars-like planet can easily retain a molten core if it has a large moon to act on it tidally. That's even suspected to be one of the reasons why Earth itself is so geologically active still.

So yes, you could get a smaller than Earth planet with life, it just needs to not be in the same situation Mars is.
>>

All that matters ultimately is that the species can get off the planet at all and retain interest in doing so, because once you get up to a certain point, you're building all of your spaceships in Zero-G regardless.

When sapient life is evolving the amount of space and resources they would need is marginal compared to the overall size of anything that could be called a planet.
Space and resources only matter when they hit an industrial-age equivalent, and only then if they develop something similar to the consumptive behavior of humans.,

No, mass drivers are not an option on planets with an atmosphere. The payload would have to leave the barrel going faster than orbital speeds.

Honestly I've never run into a situation where I've either had to change ethics or been forced to change ethics, so I suppose the computer is the same. It's really sad that all the faction and ethics change did basically nothing, there's nothing fundamentally different from the system now than the way it was before, outside of just elimination of rebel factions.
>>
>>174675014
>kumbaya themselves to death like the american indians
Ha, no. They tried to raid and run them off countless times, even into the very start of the 20th century. They just failed because of a combination of disease and being completely outclassed in tech early on, and not knowing these new people would be total dicks (so plenty tried to advocate for peace and kindness early on and got stabbed in the back), and later on, they failed because they had a severe lack of numbers and only the nomads were left to try and fend off severely entrenched europeans.

Yes? Seeing as how life on Earth is most likely totally insulated and independent from hypothetical life on other planets, while at the same time being descended from a common ancestor in Earth's proto-history, I think its safe to say that conclusions drawn from Terran life may not necessarily apply to other planets or biospheres.

Kinetic Artillery and Flak Artillery are kinetic so yes, they fit on a large-medium destroyer.

Second ship you should build if you have a neighbor you want to kill in the early, early game is a destroyer with 2 lightning clouds or 1 lightning cloud + 1 pd + 2 small guns if they have missiles. Lightning is the perfect weapon for clearing a cloud of early game corvettes. After you've got 3+ level sensors and the enemy have moved to cruisers and battleships, switch to large-medium destroyers with kinetic artillery.

Natural selection is a natural consequence of the laws of physics.
No copying mechanism is going to have 100% accuracy, and errors which are detrimental to a system's ability to reproduce will naturally be eliminated from the population, while errors which are beneficial will naturally be propagated.

If a system evolves, natural selection applies to it.

>As a Hive Mind how are you supposed to suppress xeno pops that you've recently conquered? Normally I just pile a bunch of defensive armies on all of their planets after the war, but Hive Minds can't do that.

1) Use regular armies.
2) If you have the habitability (which you should as Extremely Adaptive is like the instant #1 best trait for hive minds), then resettle 1 of your pops into the new colony. Then you can build defensive armies.

One other thing to note (applies to any newly conquered planet), that the buildings still cost maintenance even if you are eating or purging the pop.

So if you aren't going to use the planet, think about demolishing the buildings.

Its even worse.
>Indians create stable park like environment with forest full of fruit/nut tree
>keep other spices(bison, elk, deer) under control
>use fire to clean and regrow forests
So many of them died that whole ecosystem crashed and when whites come they see regrowth wild forest and millions of bison.

For some reason I see Indians more like freemen from Dune who terraform Americas after disaster that cause flood.
Its especially true for North one where water wave coming from north kill everything and even strip soil.
Dunno what happened in south but Amazon jungle was also under reconstruction.

Any living thing incapable of evolving was created synthetically and is irrelevant to the discussion of natural life, since complex, self-replicating chemicals do not appear out of thin air.

Eh, beef up AI rebellion so it infects any ships with AI controls, then any advanced combat computers until it infects anything not on manual controls. Having any trade or federation or vassal with an infected empire should spread the infections. Civilizations having to counter act with developing new biological/psychic crystal replacements or very carefully crafted and limited computers.

I'm also a fan of self replicators run wild over gray goo.

Rate my qt butterflies. Tips, mistakes, changes, etc.?

Full biography:
The Swallowtails are a hivemind empire of beautiful butterflies whose sole purpose is to find lifeforms to harvest delicious silk from. This process is done by impregnating any sapient lifeforms with larvae and once reaching maturity blast apart the host in an explosion of glorious silk and blood. This has left their homeworld devoid of any other lifeform even remotely being close to intelligent and silk feasting has become highly regulated. However, upon discovering FLT technologies their entire civilisation is on the brink of being overcome with euphoria for the chance to extract silk from worlds upon worlds of other lifeforms. The galaxy shall be beautiful.

>All this time im thinking the game is over because if the AI in all its cheating glory couldnt handle them then who am i to put a resistance
>Get a 80k fleet going, mostly bships
>Notice single unbidden fleets are hilariously overpowered by my one fleet
>And anything but bships are inevitably shredded
>Realize they're very allergic to giga cannons and tachyons
>Something tells me the AI isnt even aware there are unbidden, they probably let their planets and spaceports fall until they had no way to support their fleets or just let them get caught
>Finally, to confirm this, my only federation ally to the north wants to declare war on someone while the Unbidden left two empires bigger than him in tatters, hardly more than 3 system left on both
>The diplomacy screens always mentions mutual threats but no AI ever acts out on it

>Mfw the AI would have fucked the game over if the combat didnt do it first to the Unbidden

AI getting infected is not nominally different from AI rebelling
if An AI rebels it does that out of its own volition, being infected would be out of its control.

Assuming AI would be murderous is a sci-fi fallacy, empathy and diplomacy are traits born of intelligence, if anything, an AI would manipulate all events to its benefit just like a normal player would, if that power were in its reach of course.

But that goes from the premise of a single AI entity in a position of power, which is different from a population of AI, which is actually just the same as a population of organics, there should be both a Rebellion, as a consequence of unsatisfied AI population, and an infection, which would be an actual endgame crisis that pops out of nowhere to fuck your shit up like the other crisis do.

Builds fully automated ships with YOUR minerals and energy besides all the shit it already does, if Paradox ever adds espionage and informational warfare it would be great to have this as one way to counter it.

So the MINIMUM habitability required is 40%
This means that hive minds can carelessly colonize 3/10 planet types
Tomb worlds 0% +40% from tech makes it colonizable.
Wrong Atmosphere is 20% +20% from tech makes it colonizable.
Using technology means you can ignore habitability traits unless you care about them for the late game.
However, you can ALSO gain free habitability from other sources, such as the diplo tree and resources gaining an extra possible +25%
Traits provide +10/20/30% in place of trait points better used for things like Fertile and rapid breeders (which stacks) or Erudite + Talented (also stacks)

>>174684351
Both questions are correct. You only need 40% to inhabit but after thats reached its irrelevant.

Entertaining != Comedic
I never said it wasnt funny
A sitcom is comedy because it has that purpose, it usually involves absurdity and/or a number of comedic devices
Banter is funny because from our perspective it is funny, many things that we find fun are not the same for the characters involved

I saw Anon in a /civ4xg/ thread on /vg/
yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for constructive posts or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you're doing now?"

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “What? What? What?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shitposting, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen r/4chan screenshots his hands without paying.

The woman (male) at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, Battleships have shit accuracy.” At first he kept pretending to be Wiz and not hear her balance complaints, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took some Space Mana and started scanning it, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any realistic mechanics infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. After she scanned each kind of mana and put them in a $29.99 bag and started to say the discount price, he kept interrupting her by talking loudly about how fans need to suck it up and pay $100.00 for DLC

Well they have base 10 % habitability and you have to build hab boosters to enchance it.
>>
>>174687458
Yeah but if I have a size 25 molten planet close to the sun, and all I need is to sacrifice a couple slots to raise habitability to ~80%, I'd still have a lot of free slots, in my starting system. Colonizing Mars or Mars-like planets is fine, but for some, it should stay off.

I've played 1hr of Civ 5 and got the hang of it

I cannot fucking understand Stellaris, am I retarded or should I watch videos?

>>
>>174688096
Anything other than defensive armies can be embarked from the planet you recruited them at, which includes assault armies, robot/android armies, clone armies etc. Remember to recruit them a general as well, then have them follow your fleet around until you want to land them. Make sure to have bombarded the planetary defenses down to zero before landing them, otherwise they won't do a damn thing other than die. I'd say take at least 10 with you, then leave one garrisoned after you've taken a planet, otherwise you'll have to land your armies again.
>>
>>174688263
Yes.
First you need to play Masters of Orion 2, then 1, then Alpha Centauri (no expansion though), then Galactic Civilizations III, then Alpha Centauri with the expansion, then Galactic Civilization II, then Distant Worlds, then Aurora. Once you finished the story campaigns of all of those, you can finally play Stellaris.
It's really just one big game series.

>>
>>174688468

You probably jumped into a system that had space amoebas. They only attack if you're in the vicinity, and are always above planets.

If you jump into each system from an angle that places your ships the furthest from any planets, when you don't know what's in the system, you can prevent that from happening (usually).

Also, you probably had three ships that you started with, not one ship. The number is combat power, or however you want to define it. Early game, if you have lower combat power than something, you should avoid it. Later on it can be deceiving though, as combat depends more on the weapons/defenses when fighting other empires, so a slightly lower number doesn't mean you'll necessarily lose or vice versa.

Don't even think about winning your first few games, just try to learn and play around with the options you have.

Again, the question is not whether natural selection will be a feature of all life (I already conceded that to you), the question is whether all life will necessarily result in the same competitive and consumptive behaviors as seen on Earth.

>Why is it so hard for you to understand that organisms which develop advantageous adaptations will spread and organisms which evolve disadvantageous adaptations will not?
It's not? I never said that was wrong.

Why is it so hard for you to understand, and this is in a general sense, that asserting conjecture or hypothesis without evidence is inherently unscientific.
Scientific laws are not laws because that were rationally arrived a priori, they are laws because they are supported by evidence within their scope.

As of now, the only evidence of life is within the scope of Earth; any theories or laws made about life can therefor only be applied to Earth life with certainty until evidence of other life is found.

ok I may be retarded so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Some faggot aliens wanted to fuck me back after I pleacefully purified few planets of their neighbour. I entered defensive war, barely pushed them back nad took the initiative by conquering 2 of their star systems. After 2nd one got a diplomatic message which basicly meant "It was just a prank bro we have peace now"

Is there any way to set war demands as a defender or this is the most stupid wargame diplomacy ever existed?
