>That's because most people aren't enthusiasts about anything at all
that's rich coming from a guy who plays his favorite shmup only for few hours a week. when it comes to games, only achieving something can be a reflection of your enthusiasm, buying collector's edition and other crap means you love crap, not the game.

if you don't own the game you have literally never played. you can download mame and play an emulation of it, but that's all you'll ever experience, an emulation. if you liked the game so much you would buy it and experience the way it was meant to be played.

it's a big difficulty spike even on hard and normal. bosses in butttraverse seem to be the hardest part.

How do you unlock the hardest difficulty, anyway?

you mean extreme or whatever it's called? you have to beat very hard afaik. also there is even harder mode after extreme called simple, but it's so hard it's more of a joke.

holy shit the fucking stage 2 boss in crimzon clover is literally an incarnate of rng bullshit. I mean seriously most of its attacks are nothing but rng and it just gets worse and worse every second during that fight no matter if you destroy most parts of its legs on sides or not because it always manages to find some way to fuck you over with the neverending rng bullshit including but not limited to randomly making that aimed punch either way too much to left or right from where it was supposed to be aimed

but if thats not bullshit enough then theres its last pattern which is literally undodgeable if you havent got its health low enough and havent managed to time your breaks so that the bullet cancel wipes most of its shit so you can destroy it before the rng bullshit overcomes you. the oversized sprite and overly fast movement with any ship makes it so fucking bullshit it cannot be defended in any way because its literally nothing but rng. Interesting way to look at it, but I'm not a fan of armchair psychology. I do love my games and music, and I love having them physical. That's it.

I'm just burnt out on DBCS. I love it, but it drains my soul because I'm just beating the same bosses for the 1000th time now. I spent too much time on AC mode before going into CS mode which is extremely tedious at times. Not sure if I'll ever recover, I am brute-forcing a few sessions every week though!

Besides, my favourite shmup is actually G.Darius!

How do you know how much I play my shmups anyway?!

I get distracted by other games sometimes, whether it's because my mates want to play them or otherwise.
But it doesn't mean I'm not enthusiastic about shmups. I don't need to give up or get my shit together, I'll just keep playing at my own pace till I make it.

Also how am I an attention-whore if someone else posts a pic of my Steam page? That doesn't really follow. Besides, it was Cee, and it was funny.

>CCWI

Any tips for getting good at Type-II? The shot type has always fascinated me and I was implementing something like it in my own project (doesn't feel anything like the one in CCWI though and that is probably to my discredit). I think I know that I want to line up the options vertically for easier point blanking (especially on bosses) but for the stages proper do I want to spread them as far as possible before locking their positions for maximum coverage or do I want to cluster them up a bit and keep an 'option entourage' moving around with me for more concentrated firepower?

Hang on. Have we been arguing about this passion shit now? But we already argued about it yesterday! Kek.
Or maybe not? Not sure who's who in these threads desu, mate...
>>
>>174697037
Generally you'll want to spread your options when in Break Mode and Double Break, but outside that you have to route how you'll manage your options. They just won't be where you need them to be without memorizing it ahead of time.
>>
>>174696347
Stage 3 boss, stage 5 midboss and helicopters giving you shit I'm guessing? Been having the same issue, getting pretty sick of it. Maybe loops just aren't for me.
>>
>>174696601
>I'll just keep playing at my own pace till I make it.
maybe if it's an easy game you'll make it, otherwise with such a slow pace it would take years if not decades. but whatever.

so avatars don't count now?

I also don't avatarfag. I just post some Ti2 pics every now and then when it's appropriate to my post because she's cute! I mostly post normally though.
>>
>>174697434
its not the midboss but the section after it during which those somewhat aimed big blue bullet shooting things appear and recently the descent too because after killing 2 of those red ships the 2 that appear at same time always kill me or the big ship after them because i cant be arsed to use bombs ever
>>
>>174697139
I can fucking assure you it wasn't, everyone knows my steam however and would easily find anyone through it.

>>174697139
>Hang on. Have we been arguing about this passion shit now?
some of that was me aye, your argument was and is still nonsense but whatever. You on windjammers this evening?
>>
>>174698129
Huh. Well that's a bit confusing, but it doesn't matter anyway!

As for my argument, the way I said it definitely didn't make much sense, but it's a bit hard to put into words. It's an extremely subjective thing.

I'm definitely not arrogant enough to say I'm a bigger fan of something than someone else just because I have a physical version of it. That's just a personal preference.
But if said person was just not willing to pay for it in any fashion at all, whether digital or physical, in spite of how much enjoyment they already got out of it (like if they played Ketsui for 300 hours on MAME and it was released on Steam), then yeah I would think of them as a bit of a cunt desu. Because rewarding good work is imo an important part of showing passion for a thing.

Also yes, I'll be on Windjammers!
>>
>>174697215
Thank you for the advice, anon. Looks like it is time to study up (I really want to get good at Type-II so the time investment will be worth it)
>>
>>174698851
>whether digital or physical, in spite of how much enjoyment they already got out of it (like if they played Ketsui for 300 hours on MAME and it was released on Steam), then yeah I would think of them as a bit of a cunt desu. >a pro footballer is only good if they bought the ball

Are you gonna tell pazzy that he's a cunt and has no passion because he put 2 years into ketsui on mame to get a 500mill 2-all? Passion is by definition time investment something you keep confusing with a personal moral view on how markets work and what you believe to be the obligation of consumers.
>>
>>174698851
>paying 30 bucks for a shitty cave port of a decade old game
If Garegga would get a steam release, I certainly wouldn't buy it to support anyone. I don't buy games to support people. I buy them because I like the game.

The only reasons to buy games which already have been emulated are if they have leaderboards or if you dislike playing emulated games.

Not everyone has that much money to just throw 30 bucks out of the window.
>>
>>174691858
what happen?
>>
>>174699502
>Passion is by definition time investment
Bullshit. You can invest years into something and still have no passion for it. Look at all those people who hate their job, yet they still invest time into it. Doesn't mean they have passion for it.

Passion has nothing to do with time, dipshit. It has to do with emotion investment, not time investment.

i've just learned that a guy from videogame music podcast who sucks ass at shmups(and games in general) has a speedrun WR in some gameboy shit.
>>
>>174699502
But that's a bit of a false equivalence, isn't it?
A pro footballer plays football every day, as it is his profession, which he hopefully enjoys. (I don't imagine many people become pro footballers without loving the fuck out of that sport.)
Footballs are provided for pro footballers to perform. The football itself is not the singular object of a footballers passion, it's the sport as a whole.

For a shmup player, shmups are his hobby, he wouldn't put as many hours into it if he didn't love it. But he's not in any way obligated to play them as part of any profession.

A football is also not easily comparable to a product with lots of development time and money put into it like a videogame. Footballs can certainly be premium I bet, but it's not exactly the same. Also, to be able to play football oin their free time, any person will have to buy one.

I also don't agree that passion is at all defined by time investment. I agree more with Wikipedia's definition:

>Passion (from the Greek verb πασχω meaning to suffer) is a very strong feeling about a person or thing. Passion is an intense emotion, a compelling enthusiasm or desire for something.

Customers aren't obligated to do anything, it's the market's job to entice them to buy shit and if they don't, they've simply failed.
At the end of the day though if you get to enjoy something (a service, or a product like a videogame), they should get the money for providing it imo.

>>174699619
If the game is great, it would be worth it though, at least for me. Of course it's only natural to act in your own interest and wait for a sale or something if it's too expensive. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you buy it eventually. Every little bit counts.
I buy games because I like them and because I want to give back. It's a basic exchange, you're just buying a product, but in an industry where you have the choice to buy or not to buy, it gains a lot more meaning, I think.
>>
>>174704382

>>

>>
>>174704748
Not really moralfagging or preaching, just putting into perspective why it makes sense and might be in your interest to buy the shit that you like unless you want to see your favourite things pathetically die off or barely cling to life like shmups.

But if you go through life only consuming and not thinking past your own ego then nothing can be done about it.

As if a single person could change this in any way. I could buy every single shmup on steam twice. Doesn't change that the genre is still dead.

You are just too dumb and naive.
>>
playing ccwi on gamepad very uncomfortable, i better play on keyboard
>>
>>174705106
your purchase will never, ever make a difference though. no matter what you do there is no way to save a dev if there is no interest for his game(which usually has nothing to do with piracy). i buy steam games just to track my time spend in game and for leaderboards, and to a lesser extent achievements.
>>
>>174705393

You absolutely don't have to, but it makes sense to if you have any interest in politics. I don't vote either because I mostly don't care. When an issue comes up that I do care about though, then yes I will vote.
You can never expect any change in the direction you'd like though if you don't vote, that much is for certain.
Last year has taught that to a lot of people I imagine. lmao
>>
>>174705704

absolute nonsense from someone who has no political knowledge, if no one votes the winner has no mandate and the country is plunged into constitutional crisis. If you walk into a shop and don't like what you see you buy nothing so why on election day would you vote for anyone when theres nothing you like on offer? Yes because raiden games are about memorization and execution, it's called diversity and no ont every game has to be a slow bullets danmaku game that makes you think you're better than you are. Try raiden 2/dx and hopefully cry yourself to sleep with excuses for being shit.

Fast bullets are ok, but I still prefer the middle ground. I like bullet velocity like in Under defeat for example. Raiden velocity is already over the top to me, but to each their own.

>Fast bullets are ok, but I still prefer the middle ground. I like bullet velocity like in Under defeat for example. Raiden velocity is already over the top to me, but to each their own.
Top kek UD are slow and raiden is fast because the game is designed around memory and punishing you for forgetting it, you aren't supposed to be "reacting" to bullets.

What does this have to do with learning attitudes? All I am just saying is that a death you can't react to and have to memorize is retarded design. It's like the game kills you out of fucking nowhere simply because you stand at the wrong spot. It's just stupid design.

This has nothing to do with learning attitudes you fucking chav. It has to do with dumb game design.

Or balance it outside of your zone of comfort, getting feedback from stronger players

>>
>>174793683
We're talking about indie developers, not professional teams you nincompoop
>>
>>174793763
Indie devs are also just game devs. Doesn't matter if you are a professional developer or not. There is no requirement to play your own game much. Usually they let other people playtest them more in depth.
>>
>>174793940
They are not just game devs, they're people who are in charge of most of the development process and do not have easy access to teams of playtesters which is a huge difference. There's no requirement but that's just common sense if you want to make anything half decent.
>>
>>174794048
>do not have easy access to teams of playtesters
Of course they do. Just give the game to Jaimers, and you have your own personal playtester. That's what they did in the case of Poo Revolver, you fucking retard.

>just common sense if you want to make anything half decent
It's completely redundant. Common sense is just to test each pattern if it is possible to survive, and then move on to the next. everything else is just waste of time.

As a developer you do not have to practice every pattern till you are completely consistent at it, like a fucking player, you dumb retard.
>>
>>174794281
You do understand that you need functioning levels, boss fights, control customization and other important parts to get players like Jaimers to playtest? Then you also have the matter of playtesting to check relatively minor additions and changes, which isn't something you can reasonably expect out of a player checking a game out in their free time. Checking patterns for survivability and calling it a day is absolutely retarded unless you are not concerned with the quality of your game at all, there's a lot of nuances that need to be checked and lots of different strategies to try if your game has any semblance of depth. Get some game dev experience before talking out of your ass you retarded german cocksucker
>>
>>174794534
>Checking patterns for survivability and calling it a day is absolutely retarded
Well then every fucking STG developer in existence is retarded according to you.
The people who design these games mostly are not good at them. And they also don't have to.

>>
>>174794534
I'll agree with kraut on this one, no one practices shmups until they're perfectly consistent at them, that's just crazy
Even if you take some strong player, who sank hunderds/thousands of hours in some hard game and managed to clear it, they most likely won't be able to clear it consistently (e.g. give them 10 credits and you probably won't get 10 clears from them)
That's especially true for devs because devs actually have to spend time on developing the game, apart from playtesting it
>>
>>174796794
Depends on the game in question but yeah the original post is sound, it's only when he started saying that devs don't spend much time playtesting and then lapsed into absolute gibberish about just testing survivability and moving on when he came off as a clueless tard.

What is a nice CCWI/Soukyugurentai scoring system (lock-on multiplier) but with a twist?

Is there any thing you can still make with lokc-ons which hasn't been done before? I don't think so...
>>
>>174867450
Well shmups that use lock on focus on making it very automated and intuitive, if you want to think of a unique system you need to think of ways to give the player more control and add complexity to the act of locking on. Doubt you can make it fun though.
>>
>>174867735
Not sure what you mean by this... If a lock-on isn't automated anymore, then it isn't a lock-on. Homing shots are automated by nature...

My problem is doing a scoring system with it. Everything has already been done with it. There is literally no reason anymore to put a lock-on into a game.
>>
>>174867930
I mean something like if Rayforce gave you full control of the lock on independently of your ship's position, possibly when you hold down the button and you could tag enemies with it before releasing the homing shots.
>>
>>174868047
>full control of the lock on independently of your ship's position
That's already been done before... Kamui, Soukyugurentai, CCWI, etc... You have huge radius there to lock-on, not a tiny rectangle like in Rayforce.
>>
>>174868160
That's not what I mean, imagine if you could control the targeting rectangle in the same way you control your spirit in Guwange while still only using it to tag enemies. Don't think you have much left besides bullshit like that.
>>
>>174866634
Shumps with adult content?
>>
>>174868380
So you mean kinda like in REZ, where you control the lock-on rectangle yourself and drag it across the screen?
>>
I think I should just make the lock-on an ordinary secondary weapon, and make the main scoring system revolve around something else.

It's just all already been done.
>>
>>174868830
Something like that, haven't seen anything like that in a shmup (probably for good reason)
>>
>>174869505
>probably for good reason
Yea, perhaps I'm just too dumb for it, but I find the spirit system in Guwange pretty weird to control. It's not really fun to use.
>>
>>174869826
>perhaps I'm just too dumb for it
definitely this, the skill of guwange is multi tasking and smart routing. Probably why its popular in japan on not the west where most players are low tier and prefer to stick to the same old formulae of one object dodging bullets because they are copy cats and can't do intuition or intensive strategy.

>>174869826
>It's not really fun to use.
Only because it reminds you of how inept and shit you are, you lack perseverance and thankfully the game lets you know how much of a failure you are for it. If you ever pass baby tier which you won't its the most addictive system ever created but as only 2 of us in the west have even hit competency you'll never know.

is stage 3 in ccwi supposed to be impossible, specifically the boss. maybe it's because i'm retarded and bad shmups

arcade original btw
>>
>>174873562
it's not a hard stage with type z once you practice it long enough, only gets tough near the end, but you can just bomb through. boss is easy too, though you need to move carefully with fast type z.
if you are using other ships, you need a good route, even experienced players can die in this stage especially if they score.
>>
>>174873562
regardless game time just keep practicing, you can do it!
>>
>>174873562
>specifically the boss
Which part exactly gives you trouble? I feel like the part between mid-boss and the boss is harder.
>>
>>174873562
At the boss you have to time your breaks right, otherwise you just make the patterns harder.

ccwi wouldn't look too good without shiny stars, numbers and bullets all over the screen.
>>
the fucking red ball rush on crimzon clover stage 3 after midboss is literally most bullshit thing in the whole game because if you manage to trigger the medium ship spawn then the energy pickup from boss is completely unavaible because the ship blocks you from getting it. And of course that bullshit will be combined with the spider thingys shooting shit at you from every possible and impossible direction you can ever imagine

so with all those the conclusion is that that part right there is utter fucking bullshit ruining the otherwise fun stage 3

I just had an idea for scoring mechanic. Can somebody tell me if this has been already done elsewhere?

You have a main shot and a secondary weapon. The secondary weapon grants a multiplier when killing enemies with it, however it requires ammo (or energy). The ammo refills slowly by itself, but you also can stop shooting with main shot to make it refill faster. Scoring well requires precise shooting and point-blanking for higher damage in order to refill ammo faster, plus time-killing high point value enemies with secondary weapon after weakening them with main shot.

>>174885445
>then the energy pickup from boss is completely unavaible
You can just grab the pick-up right after the boss is destroyed...
>>
>>174885445
I'm pretty sure spiders spawn only on the right part of the screen, while it scrolls left with sarracenia-like things and occasional big ship coming from the left?

Am I the only one having trouble most trouble with stage 3 in a segment right before the end boss (which starts with snake-like ships)?
>>
>>174886045
>Am I the only one having trouble most trouble with stage 3 in a segment right before the end boss (which starts with snake-like ships)?
I've only played a few credits of the game, but that's where my runs were ending. Unlike everything before that, I would have to route them to get past.
>>
>>174886045
the snakes and what comes after still fucks me up, i have to brake on snakes and then bomb through the rest.
>>
>>174887259
Breaking on sneks is good, because they have very high point values.
>>
>>174885445
dont play type1 retard, it's for masochists
>>
>>174851038
Am I just extremely cynical if I think this looks like trash? I mean, what's the point really? It plays like those Contra III top-down levels, but you have so much freedom of movement yet barely any enemies, and a completely linear path.

I get that it's not trying to be hardcore arcadey, but it just looks bland and boring and pointless. It's like a 2D version of Ace Combat or something. I don't get it.
>>
what is this meme to praise r type ikaruga and ccwi all in the same sentence
>>
>>174892182
>Am I just extremely cynical if I think this looks like trash?
No, it does like trash. It's the same as all the other euro shmups: fancy graphics and effects, but boring as fuck gameplay, art style, and music.
>>
>>174881648
It's NOTHING like Luftrausers. You can't even speedy speed boy in this.
>>
I'm just unable to think of a good scoring mechanic... I should just forget about this.
It makes no sense thinking about it, since everything has already been done in this genre.
>>
>>174887347
i know they do in cc, but in ccwi too? in cc sneks are easy and level 3 is easier overall, at least to survive.
>>174888024
type 1 is the most fun for scoring though, type Z is too strong which makes scoring harder and you get scoring penalty on top of that, type 3 is just too fast for my taste and lock damage is shit making scoring difficult, type 2 is options autism.

>>174892419

>>
>>174885918
how the fuck are you supposed to do that when enemies spawn like 0.5 sec after the pickups appear

>>174886045
you are supposed to have double break ready for that part. I usually do it so that I enter break just after the first one spawns and enter double break a bit after the second one appears and move from left side under the snek to the right
>>
>>174893181
>how the fuck are you supposed to do that when enemies spawn like 0.5 sec after the pickups appear
Just look at a replay of a decent player... You have to kill the mid-boss while he is in the middle of the screen, then move at the top of the screen, grab the energy item, and quickly move down again.

>made by chinks

>>
Is the scoring system in a game actually really that important? I mean Mushi Futari original also has very simple but straight forwward system, but people still seem to like it. Also nothing overly original.

In the end it just comes down to level design and art style, music, etc, doesn't it?
>>
In Mushihimesama using S-power (lasers?) is there ever a reason to not use formation? Does trailing the lasers behind you tracer style and bunching them up focused have some kind of benefit over the coverage formation gives?
>>
What's your opinion on Hydorah? Personally I think it's just great. Been exploring the levels and getting my ass kicked

for me, very.

>>174896502
>I mean Mushi Futari original also has very simple but straight forwward system
because it's addictive and rewarding, people want good scoring systems not just the most convulted although it can be obv. Cave got good at scoring systems which cater to both levels of player like ketsui for example, in principle its easy to grasp and do but the higher level play is extremely complex and hard.
>>
>>174900145
>for me, very.
Kraut already knows that it is important, he's just trying to rationalize his failure as usual.

Perhaps I didn't express myself adequately. What I mean is rather if it is really that important to have an original scoring mechanic. I don't think Mushis scoring is that original actually.
