You're acting like signal processing doesn't have to happen in atmosphere too. In space the contrast is better in every wavelength except visible light, so no, sensors would be fine.

To get on the topic, Banu sound like an extremely rational and opportunistic species. One that don't wallow into collecting meaningless jpeg art when they can do something both useful and pretty.
Trader but efficient one.
If I have to guess from the only fighter design, the Xian will probably be the overly scientific species (high tech everything, turtle wisdom cliché).
Meanwhile the Tevarin's Prowler is, bird-like and sound a good candidate for a (warrior but) artistic species.
>>
>>174622138
And not only that, but doing this at this point before 3.0 is out is a horrible decision. The game runs like ass, new player experience is abyssmal and after 2 hours you've seen all there is to see right now.
People shilling for referrals will obviously downplay any flaws the "game" has right now because they want their FUCKING HELLO KITTY BIKE and the results of that will probably make the game and its community look even worse.

Pretty good happy hour. I really like this format, and also the Josh segment where they designed a flying spider. It's the best community content I've seen and am actually interested in.

I don't know how to react about the game being another 2 years away or whatever, though. And the serious question of them asking if we should push back SQ42 so we can rush to put a space whale in 3.0.

Like, it's 3 months total projection, for 1 animal, and it's not even an initial design or stretch goal. Either they are going to take way longer than everyone hopes, to make this game, or they've made so much of it already that they don't have to worry about assigning resources to make a meme.

>i want a free $2500 space ship
Those people who refer thousands of people to the game don't deserve something?

As an exception, the people who spam their referral code don't deserve them. But the big streamers do.

Think of that poor guy wtfosaurus, he plays Star Marine and the PU for like 3 hours per day for the last 6 months or maybe even longer. I don't think he has anywhere near enough referrals to get one. Yet compared to the other people who do get one, I think he deserves one.
>>
>>174636395
>>174636923
I'm not saying that streamers don't deserve anything. The point is, they kept hyping it up for weeks, but then the thing actually releases and it turns out that a) only a handful of streamers (who even had their referrals displayed in the damn announcement video) even have the chance to win and b) the 'referral changes' are more or less completely meaningless because most people don't even make it to 10 referrals, so all the new 75+ tiers benefit nobody except the big-name streamers and whoever bought google ads for hundreds of dollars.

If they just want to reward streamers for the work they've done, sure, they can go ahead and do that. But introducing those new referral tiers and making the "contest" so that the outcome is clear from the start anyway just feels like a dick move. I'm sure they could have made up some new rewards for the tiers between 1 and 10, like fps gear or whatever. People would have appreciated that.
What effectively ends up happening now is that a couple of people not only got their 30 seconds of fame on an official video, but they also get potentially up to like $4k worth of ships, while the majority of backers gets fuckall. I'm sure the 99,9% who don't have 1k+ referrals contributed more to the game than anyone else and aren't entirely undeserving of some goodies.
Additionally, this leads to people spamming their fucking referral code everywhere even more than before. And, since they just want referrals, it's likely that they'll conveniently downplay how the game is just a buggy techdemo at this point, which doesn't help the reputation of both SC and its community. They could have waited until 3.0 to launch this at least.
>>
>>174638068
I think you have valid points. But CIG's community interaction has never been great. Like wiping people's alpha currency, banning for silly reasons, pricing ships, catering to circlejerks and sometimes putting out uninteresting content.
>>
>>174630045
being transparent with development of a croudfunded game is alot different than fully encouraging forumites and whales to think theyre part of development, or even worse, actually listening to their opinions before the product is finished from the 1st party side
>>
>>174638525
I couldn't disagree more. Letting the community decide novelty content to go in the game is very rare.

The downside is pulling resources off other things. If the devs actually are free between projects to do it, then so be it, that's fine.

To be fair, she's doing a better job than some. The little twitter hints here and there are quite good for what they are and drums up interest.

EVERYONE is an awkward sperg on ATV for some reason though.
>>
>>174644504
That's kind of cringy. She's not very good at pretending. It's obvious she is sociopath just like Chris is, that's why they are together.

What is her contribution to the game?
>>
Expected to see more hype about automated, non NPC crewed turrets featured in ATV

this will make so many ships so much more fun and viable without needing players or NPC crew it's not even funny, and honestly needing to hire NPCs just to perform the same function is retarded.
>>
>>174647132

she's an "actress" who clearly failed at any attempt to make it in that business

Chris roberts made a B movie, she probably got with him to try and get in on his next project which turned into SC. their relationship seems very professional and she probably decides if chris gets some ass at the end of the day.

expect to see her as a fully mocapped and voice acted character in Sq42, it's the closest she could get to being a real actress and being in the same credits as some of the bigger names going into SQ42 will be good for her "career"
>>
>>174647132

the point is "I have more gun than you, come back with freinds if you want to fuck with my ship"

and it's not exactly unfair in any way if everyone has access to it, it just adds a layer of defensive firepower that needs to be considered for everyone. won't even be OP in any way unless they make the turrets traverse and track as fast as your mouse can move, video shows this isnt the case and will mainly be for applying defensive pressure

either way it makes more sense to install a module to control your turret than to hire an NPC - maybe NPCs that are better or worse at turret gunning will exist to flesh this out

CIG is rich with technical talent. Guys who understand how to make CryEngine do things it has never done before and build things for it when necessary.
We have engineers and artists of great capacity. We even have some managers and producers worth something for their experience in the industry.
For me, it has never been an issue of questioning the aptitude of the technical capacity to build this game. As is evident in the progress of the technology for things like 64bit large world spaces, procedural planets, nested physics grids... ect ect.

The big question mark, is and remains the weakest link in the chain... design talent. We have the ability to create the technology, but then what do they do with it? Who's in charge of the design?
The "technical designers" who create the gameplay that makes use of all this technology and define what the game is supposed to be are, IMO, a huge liability.

These guys, from what I understand, have no previous experience designing a game... let alone an MMO as ambitious as Star Citizen. Which explains a serious lack of direction and troubling signs of myopia when it comes to vision. It's been 3 years of Arena Commander and nothing is changed, they still haven't ironed out the flight model into something not controversial as if they still have no idea of which way it is supposed to go. The flight model exhibits none of the characteristics Chris Pitched for in 2012 and much of the core aspects, like Damage modeling and customization exists. They are effectively still throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks.

Star Marine is joke. A generic copy/paste of Call of Duty style gameplay that, ironically, it was pitched as being anything but that. Both AC and SM would never stand on their own as even "Open Access" games on Steam worth pre-paying $45 dollars for.

Worst of all, Arena Commander is failing in the role of being a flight mechanics test bed as each major iteration of it appears bent on taking it down a divergent path towards "game within a game" mentality. It's useless atm as a gauge for how gameplay in the Open World Environment will operate.

They still can't and have not answered the most basic of questions the community has regarding the most basic and core gameplay mechanics leaving the Community to make shit up on their own through a wild series of presumptions stitched together from ancient quotes from 2012/2013.
This is all solely on the shoulders of amateur designers with no previous experience designing a game world.

Who comes up with the design outline for the never ending stream of ships they have no problem selling in droves? A guy who has never designed a game before.
Hence, what I call "Beer Napkin" design. As in... the design document is really a beer napkin of scribbled idea's that sounded cool "in theory". But no practical depth to them to explain exactly why they are a good idea and how they integrate into the bigger picture.

Take the obsession of putting manned Turrets on small ships. The Gladiator, The Cutlass, The Hurricane and I bet... The next ship they sell, The Defender. The hurricane is a prime example of Beer Napkin Theory at play. Why the fuck does this ship exist? Do we not have enough arcade combat dog fighters to choose from? Bro! Lets make a 2 player ship with a big turret on it with tons of guns and missiles! Then we'll sell it for $180. Sick idea brah that will totally be awesome sauce!
It just drives me insane to see a game with great potential get butchered and ruined by the lack of talent of those who have no idea of what they are holding in their hands. So many fucking games murdered by myopic mediocrity of dull, vision-less people.

what exactly are you expecting from a pre-pre alpha state game without the content or longevity to sustain it's intended, non pre-alpha gameplay

Star marine and arena commander exist purely to increase the rate of feedback / bugfinding devs recieve for ship and on foot gameplay respectively. the PU is currently too limited to be efficient in any way at delivering gameplay feedback to the devs. so that gameplay is split into smaller controlled segments that are immediately accessible and risk free to players, producing drastically increased redundancy in specific types of gameplay being played, and thus drastically more feedback to the devs on how that gameplay functions in a vacuum.

You're not playing a game yet, you're not playing an alpha game yet, you're playing a series of segmented testbeds that are segmented for the sole purpose of effective data collection.

crusader, being an inefficient combination of all gameplay with little incentive for players to go play all possible gameplay within, is a horrible place to try and gather data from for anything not relating to quests, network, or persistence related issues

in system tour guide missions that stack as long as you have room. You need a Beluga or equal to make big money, otherwise surface scans still pay ok per hour. I'm full rep, and I get 2.5-4m per scan mission easy. 30m/hr isn't that hard with just scans.
>>
>>174665653

I said tour guide, not trading. There's a tourist beacon right next to one of the stations. There's lots of passengers wanting to go to different destinations within the system. Fuck them. Bring them all to the same beacon, the one close to the station, and then bring them back. Mission accomplished.
>>

They remember recent history. A given Banu might remember what his parents did for a living. Or he might not, since it sounds like Banu young might be communally raised.

The point is that, even if a Banu knows what his father was, or maybe what his grandfather was if he knew him personally, he's not going to know what his great great grandfather was because they don't give a shit.

There's plenty of shit about history you wouldn't know or give a shit about if you weren't explicitly taught it in school, and honestly most of the history they taught you was useless. The Banu perspective isn't that hard to see.
>>
>>174659775
they make it very clear that they don't VALUE history, they value the results of that history in the present, it's like if jews today celebrated their sovereignty as a moral highgrounded state, instead of celebrating the millennia of bullshit and "muh 93 million" they went through to achieve their current state

if it's in the past it's not something tangible anymore to them, and tangible wealth and fame, here and now, seems to be their spiel.

It's very rare because it rarely ever work. Most Players make for shit developers.
The few case were it worked had the game devs interpreting the community wishes into something seen as different or offering only a few choices in the first place.
We already have a example of how bad it can go with E:D, stupid dads ask for soul-grinder because they fear the scarecrow of a "casual game", Fdev start grinding soul.

Most players are also bad at understanding the need of game development,

It fall under "few choice", it's limited to a few place and it can be limited in number, and the devs will decide its AI and how dangerous it is.
It's free community point for something they would have done anyway.

Take the Redeemer, you can't find more fanmade and it's not exactly well received. Even if CiG will redo it AEGIS style player will still criticize its use and balance (before the game is out)

The community already had part in the game design, but it's rare and limited because the wishlist of one player is the don't-list of another.

I can't decide between an Aquila and a Carrack. I want a nice, relatively self-sufficient ship for me and a few buddies to hop around in, primarily doing freelance and exploration stuff, so they both fit the bill.

But, the Aquila doesn't feel as homey as I'd like. The Carrack is cool, but I almost feel like maybe it's too big? I also don't especially want to take out a mortgage to get a Carrack. If I got an Aquila, I might be able to actually fly the thing before the heat death of the universe, too.

There is no point is theorycrafting jpegs anymore since CIG will take the design wherever is goes once they actually start making it. Best thing to do is get the value in a ship you can enjoy now and stash the CCU to what you think you might want later.

I have a M50 and Retaliator CCU stashed, but neither of those ships turned out the way I wanted. Bucc is a better interceptor than a M50, and the Cutlass is a more flexible multicrew ship than the Tali.

Also missing the entire point of the argument

This guy wants to stare into empty black space and struggle engage or even see targets past 500 meters without using hud or instruments because that is what real pilots do (in his alternate reality where its ww2 and everyone has demigod powers of long distance vision)

I may have figured out the massacre mission nerf. The game will only let you have three missions with 0 kills at a time. If you have existing missions (like a 54 kill mission), you can stack three more when you go back to station. I don't think the game counts in progress missions towards the limit. I have 4 missions from the same faction currently. This needs a little more testing.

>>
>>174713119
If you were within the bubble, there were probably stations within 20 ly of you at all times. You just would have needed to plot a course for one before your tank completely dried up.

Even with a fuel scoop, you need to consider deviating from your auto-plotted route to find a kgb-foam star once your fuel tank hits 30-50%.?

There is always asking the fuel rats for help. They're a bunch of autistic Dads who fly around refueling people like you. But you will be forever judged by /edg/.

The only way to retain some dignity is to suicide /respawn.

It has the same loadout as the Sabre with smaller missiles and it has an interior with beds. By CIGs standards it's surprisingly cheap, considering that they normally add a $100-150 markup because dude aliens lmao.

I wonder how they'll balance refueling, if they ever figure out how to do it at all. If me eyeballing the sizes of those tanks is even remotely correct, a single tank has an internal volume of more than 200m^3. According to Jump Point a "medium fuel tank" component used in fighters is 2x1x1m. This just doesn't add up.

>>174721434
Size doesn't necessarily translate directly to capacity, but the real answer is of course however the fuck they want to because its a video game and doesn't have to respect physics or even euclidean geometry

Several possibility:
- The huge tank are meant for HUGE ship, the Bengal could easily slurp all this fuel.
- Huge tank store the RAW MATERIAL which is then refined into much less fuel (in the different tank)
- The huge tank are placeholder for CARGO or another extracted gas/liquid resource, fuel would require a different setup with more machinery or stuff.
- You simply need tank that huge because with so many ship flying around you don't want 80% of them being refueling ship.
- Fuel for the fuel god!

Myself I'm hoping the rear is very customisable, with pict or even MECHA (let me dream)

CIG is having a shady as fuck rigged contest to see who can get the most referrals. The top prizes include capital ships and a trip to Gamescom(?).

Pretty much the only way to win is to be a top YT streamer of SC, which is less than 10 people. Or, you spend retarded amounts of money on adwords to stack the odds that people will use your referral if they google star citizen.

Supposedly, this anon is doing the latter. And godspeed to that glorious bastard if true, godspeed.

Apart from them even displaying the codes of the streamers in question in the official announcement video and referrals made before the contest counting towards it as well, the major complaint is that they advertised this as something for all backers, when in really it's just them giving a handful of people some ships so they shill even harder.

>>
>>174727002
No what I'm saying is that the contest is rigged because less than a dozen people are eligible to even be competitive, yet it is pitched as a contest open to all.

The contest should have been for most outright referrals with the counter starting at 0 for everyone the day it was announced. That would have been more fair.
>>
>>174727216
>>174727282
They could have made it start at 0 and you'd still lose. They reach more people and have more of an effect on the project than you do. The worst part of all of this is people deluding themselves into thinking they would stand a chance if those popular streamers weren't mentioned in the video.

Its not "rigged". Its simply a bad contest.

>Its not "rigged". Its simply a bad contest.
If only a few people have a chance of winning, telling the public they have a chance too is dishonest.

If they wanted to have a streamer contest, then that's how it should have been pitched, but CIG is incapable of clearly stating anything. We are again subject to a situation that is not outright improper, but fails the smell check miserably.

The worst aspect of CIG is how they skirt the edge of what is appropriate or ethical in an obvious and intentional fashion. This should have been a streamer contest from the start, but opening it up to the public with the false sense of them having a chance to win, over heavily favored streamers, is the kind of idea that should have died in a meeting of reasonable and ethical people.

I bought this game ages ago because someone described it as Euro Truck in space but I was initially put off by not really knowing wtf to do. So I picked it up again recently and have managed a few basic deliveries with the starting ship.

Couple of questions, occasionally when I try and plot a route I get a failure message? Also whats the deal with flight assist, after a bit of googling apparently when it's off it doesn't automatically balance you out so you just keep spinning around but is it even possible to fly without it using a controller or is it not worth attempting without an actual flight stick?
>>
>>174732616
if ever there was a thing to perfectly describe the state of star citizen, this would be it
>>
>>174734480
your frameshift drive is probably not good enough if you can't plot a route
and you're almost certainly better off with flight assist on, you've got to be pretty good to get any benefit from turning it off
>>
>>174734480
>occasionally when I try and plot a route I get a failure message?

This happens if you try to plot a route longer than 1000LY, or if no route can be found to your destination such as when your jump range is too low to make one of the necessary jumps.

>is it even possible to fly without it using a controller

It's a matter of skill. I've seen people fly FA-Off competently with a controller. You also don't have to choose one over the other. You can toggle flight assist on or off whenever appropriate.

The Autistic Terror Of The Snow

It snowed a foot overnight. When they woke up, Derek and Brabo went out to play. First, they made snow angels. Then they had a snowball fight and Derek hit Brabo in her Autist with a big Autistic iceball. It hurt a lot, but Derek kissed it Autisticially and then it was all better.

Then they decided to make a snow man.

"We'll make a really Autistic snow man!" Derek said.

"Why don't we make a snow woman instead?" Brabo said. "That would be more Autistic and politically correct."

"I know," Derek said. "We can make a snow Autist. That way, we don't have to worry about gender politics."

So they rolled the snow up Autisticially and made a Autistic snow Autist. Derek put on a Autist for the Autist. The Autist was almost as big as Brabo.

"It looks Autistic," Derek said Autisticially. "But it seems like it's missing something."

"Here," Brabo said and held up a Autistic Autist. "I found this on an Autist." She put the Autist onto the Autist's head.

It was perfect. For about a minute. Then the Autist, even though it was just made of snow, started to move and growl like an Autist Autisting Autisticially.

Brabo screamed Autisticially and ran but the snow Autist chased her until she tripped over a tree root. Then the snow Autist Autisted her Autisticially.

"Nobody does that to my little Autistic Autist," Derek screamed. He grabbed an icicle and stabbed the snow Autist through the Autist. It fell down and Derek kicked it apart until it was just a bunch of snow again.

"You saved me!" Brabo said and they shared an embrace in the snow before going in for hot chocolate.

The Autist lay in the yard until a Autistic child picked it up and took it home.

The Banu are ugly as fuck, and they consider the collection of lots of exotic and strange trinkets that they can pimp themselves out in as being a good way to show they are friendly people.

In the same way you, or maybe not you specifically since you're a moron but someone else, would help someone across the road who needs help, the Banu collect things to show they are good people who have lived a life filled with variety and exploration.

YOUR views on what it means to collect lots of shit is irrelevant, to a Banu collecting lots of shit means you lived a good life and you're a good person.

EVE has skills that increase over time which is how you progress from ship to ship (or jobs as well)

Injectors are ingame items that let a player withdraw 500k skill points from their character and sell it on the market.

The problem is there is a near infinite supply of these things, and you can spend real money to buy PLEX which can be sold for billions of ISK which can be spent for, guess what? Injectors.

This means you could start playing today in EVE and get a straight up advantage to all your friends by dropping your credit card. Skills cover everything from what jobs you can do, ships you can fly, even shit like a flat 5/10/15/ect % increase in weapon damage/range/fire rate

Its straight up P2W, hidden behind a few bullshit lame excuses the community up hold to pretend it isnt P2W.

theres a very fine line between what can be be allowed for a good, immersive first person multiplayer experience, and what makes an at least decent MMO. ED went full on with the korean MMO model where 90% of the "content" is grind. hopefully SC finds a way.

nobody will ever capture than jankiness of ye olde vanilla WoW open world PVP or jankiness of early WoW in general, and nobody will ever successfully pull off a game popular enough to warrant a $15/month subscription that people will buy into like retards for 12 years.

Blizzard elevated and murdered MMOs in the same fell swoop. just adding the MMO tag to your game is basically begging to attract the wrong people and dissapoint them when it isn't blizzard's universal archetype for what an MMO is.

>>174765180
runescape is a whole different story man. don't confuse this withg the generic korean grind MMOs. the core moneymaking aspects of the game were fully accessible for free and what was basically a boost in quest content and quicker money gain in the form of a $7/mo membership was 100% optional.

I stopped playing that right around when summoning was a new skill but god damn did i enjoy right clicking on some fucking yews for some reason. probably because it was free, and I could infinitely chop yews at edgeville and pile up full rune sets to go into the wildy with. for a stupid 8th grader with no money this was THE sickest shit to be spending my time on. right clicking yews @edgeville. RS is easily one of the best examples of F2P working seemlessly with paid members inside the same game, and has yet to be duplicated to my knowlege in any newer mmos that are capable of having so much time spend on them. the grind was fun and immediately rewarding on a by-level increase.

the second I see something that isnt one of these "founding fathers of successful MMO archetypes" listing their game openly as an MMO before it launches it immediately lowers my confidence in the success of the final product.

good thing about SC is that they already have alot of money, enough to make their game and not care how it's recieved in the end. but again, the cost of maintaining a AA MMO, especially the most technically advanced MMO of all time, is not cheap, and theyre going to be missing that sweet, sweet, $15/month that no other MMO will ever, ever, ever be able to justify charging their customers with for more than a couple months.

RIP pre-F2P Wildstar

>>174764461
While I only have a cursory understanding of SC, my understanding from the shitposts in these threads is that the lifetime insurance operates on a cooldown to limit how frequently they can use it and that the insurance only covers the hull and none of the equipment inside.

Keep blowing up their stuff and they'll be forced to replace their equipment and forced to pay for the hull like everyone else unless they want to "leave their ship in the repair shop" until their lifetime insurance comes off cooldown.

all insurance supposedly operates on a cool down (it takes time for the insurance company to find a replacement ship or some shit) and it covers the hull plus the default loadout (to increase the attractiveness of variants, back when variants were just higher end load-outs) The only difference between timed and lti is that timed insurance has to be renewed every month for in-game money once it's free period is up. And regardless of the type, supposedly there's no premium increases for Hull insurance no matter how often you crash, so really LTI will only save you a little upkeep cost every month.

There will also be after market insurance to cover the upgraded parts you've added to a ship, and cargo insurance. But those are expected to be far more expensive and have far more limitations and conditions than Hull insurance.

For as much as the 1% aren't driving development, CIG is doing a very good job. Multicrew is more than just turret and more than managing power minigame, it will have repair inside the ship, boarding and allow for unique FPS/Ship gameplay that you've never seen since Battlezone.

When SC&SQ42 finally release they'll predictably make a mockery of every other 'AAA' games with shallow features, procedurally generated boredom and outdated gameplay.

Star Citizen is shaping into MMO done right.

They never intended to have "as many player as possible on screen", just as many per instance to make it fun. That's why you'll be playing an actual game with complex feature and not an autolock&click festival with no physics and Pay2Progress.

>It didnt have to be an MMO at all
If Star Citizen keep its plans of 64 players per instance and the game logic deciding wether you meet a player or a NPC you'll have many people arguing that "it's not a real MMO" if it's not a single Shard (no matter how wrong this logic is).

Myself I consider it's fine. Griefer however will cry if it turn out they can be dumped in shit instance without knowing it.

Even if we tend to glorify this bring-a-friend feature you are confusing with E:D

We currently only have an alpha tech demo but SC is uniquely prepared because it have FPS which allow gameplay possibilities that you wouldn't entrust to a npc, such as air-support, dust-off, choosing what sub-system to target and many task that require human level intellect to pull off.
The npc will also serve as spawn body for players so they don't have to be present during the entire flight and have the potential to avoid the one man army syndrome.

In short FPS multicrew is one of the most important feature of the game.

>>174775256
You already have the Argo and the Crucible to bring and repair stuff. Making a variant that is not good at either would only create redundant ship.
Also, we would be better served with drones for the small stuff. The Reclaimer original plan called for it. A middle sized salvager could have a niche
>>
>>174776284
The new payouts are intentional.

Also he's wrong about the amount you need to hit Elite exploration staying the same. It's internally a point system rather than straight credits earned, but since we have nothing to measure it by there's been no noticeable difference until now.

Pre 2.3 you hit Elite from Aimless at around the 160mil mark. In 2.3 that amount is now around 600mil (still under investigation; exact amount may differ a bit but we know the ballpark now).

Now, if you were at the 152mil mark before the patch dropped, then you were 95% of the way to Elite points-wise. Post-patch you're still at 95% points-wise, which equates to needing 40mil more to hit Elite from this point forward. So under this scenario you'd reach Elite at a bit under 200mil total credits earned, assuming no passenger income which earns points at a different rate.

>>174777717
Fun fact: Neutron stars have a habitable zone around 2000-3000ls out because E:D only takes into account star temperature when determining the goldilocks zone.

Radiating surface area/actual illuminance or even life-threatening characteristics like ionizing radiation are not taken account at all.

So if you're in the neutron fields for exploration, be aware that there are tons of terraformables and even some earthlikes in those systems too.
>>
>>174778557

No, exploration Elite is the same number of "points" as it was before. What's happened is exploration data is now only worth 50% of its credit value in "exploration xp". So you'd need 320, not 600. Passenger missions are worth even less: 20% for sightseeing passengers and 40% for long-range exploration passengers. But the thing is, scan data payouts went up more than 2x this patch you'll actually advance to exploration elite faster than before. It's the poor schmucks who went out exploring before the patch and come back after it that are going to be salty because their 2.2 scans stay at 2.2 levels of pay but also only count 50% towards their rank, so they get fucking robbed for their rank.

Spoiler, wings, tail and bumper for all ships. Parts don't always adhere exactly to the description of the location, though.

Like the raider spoiler spikes aren't a spoiler at all and actually put spikes on the ship's underside as well.

"Wings" parts may actually cover the entire midsection of the ship and "bumper" parts can add things to the top of the ship as far back as the cockpit.

Given the Lakon canopy, bumper spikes and roll cage on the Asp are quite visible from inside the cockpit.

Never. Just sell your shit now. The game will never ever release, anon. 3.0 was delayed beyond hell, and Sq42 will most likely not even have a solid release date this year, considering that core tech requirements for Sq42, that were supposed to be in 3.0, have been gutted for later this year, I don't think Star Citizen will "finish" in the next 5 years.

Mind you, they STILL don't even have a landing zone on a planet that is traversable from space to landing zone, and they say they'll have 100+ systems for release. Either they'll cut many from design, or they'll keep the game in alpha for ever collecting money from retards for shiny new jpegs.

Apparently, now that they can't use the "but it's a oil tanker, not a fighter" argument here, the most common defense is the view is bad because "it's a balancing method!" because clearly, a 185 dollar ship that's a slower, less agile Sabre with beds needs to be nearly blind in order to make it balanced.

Meanwhile the BMM owners are starting to realize they're going to get a slow, defenseless alien Hull that needs constant escorts instead of a bad ass blockade runner with giant fuck off guns.

>>174783797
When the HUD actually shows you asteroids, and wreckage or displays ships and stations as something more detailed than tiny dots... then that argument holds water. Right now, flight is almost entirely done by eyeballs instead of radar.

He's not wrong.

Ships have 360 degree sensors but they don't tell you where anything is other than ships, so flying about needs to all be done by eye to avoid ramming shit if you're weaving inbetween debris or asteroids.
>>

So are there any /edg/ lorefags out there?

I was wondering if either personal or planetary shields are a thing in the setting, since the formal could make personal combat more complex and the latter would explain why they let every Tom, Dick, and Harry with no day job operate a craft that can travel at relativistic and superluminal speeds.

I was also wondering if they use QEC or have some other form of FTL communication, or if being hit with messages a thousand light years from the nearest nav beacon is just a game mechanic deviating from the setting.

>...the former could...

>>174785943
I'm not, fighting in asteroid belts, nebulae that affect sensors, debris fields, around stations and shit like that is way more interesting than circle strafing with some fucker blindly because you know you're not ever going to hit anything
>>
>>174786278
There are no personal shielding systems thus far, but we might see them on the higher grade armor that are basically powered suits. Ships all have them but those aren't really "personal".

There is no FTL communication, its bounced around beacons to transmit at fast but slower than light speeds. In game, the Herald is meant to have a niche ferrying information faster than it can be transmitted in large amounts.

I like Elite too, but honestly it feels more like a grind/timesink than an actual game at the moment. The sheer number of players who outright refuse to join open play is upsetting as it removes one of the few interesting wildcards from the game, and honestly "lack of wildcards" is the best way to describe the problem of Elite here.

You can go do X, Y, Z things, yes. The scenery is nice when you find a cool star or planet, yes. You can fight pirates and chase down smugglers and run cargo and a bunch of other things, yes. But once you've done any one of these once, all the other times you do it there's little to make them stand out, especially once you have a high-end ship and can't get the thrill of "I accidentally pissed off an anaconda while flying my cobra" and having to outsmart someone when you're definitively outgunned (and even then, once you've killed a few bulky powerhouses by exploiting their weaknesses and learning to get the most out of your maneuverability, you're able to do it a thousand times without much to shake things up).

People live for the weird moments, and while the handful you might experience in E:D are memorable, it's less due to quality than it is their tremendous rarity. People want to wake up one day, log in and find out that group of players operating around [planet] have blockaded it and are killing any pilot who comes for the resources there. They can't get that though, because those guys are in a private group in an instance we can't access. People want to be ferrying medical supplies to a system 100LY away and get caught by something harder and more interesting than a single viper NPC plopping an interdiction on them, and maybe even have more options than "drop cargo like a bitch" or "gun him down in ten seconds and go back to work".

This is where E:D fails, and supporting itself on people like me who don't have time to play it enough to really feel how dull it can be isn't a good idea.

Engineers is not an improvement. It is FDev jewing people out of money and P2W in the most blatant form.

They can take on mechanics but its a shit game to its core because there is nothing to do. It is a vast universe full of nothing.

Powerplay? I'd rather see unique missions or something that makes the game have more than 5 hours of actual content hidden behind 50 hours of mindless grind.

Get out of here, Braben.

To add on:

For one, if the CQC style battles in Arena were actual battles happening in the game it would spice things up. Imagine the classic site of an orbital ring. Imagine a shielded mining facility on the edge of that ring where you can sell your resources but can't really get more than basic field repairs done there. You can have beacons dotting the ring to show hot spots for mining, and people are doing their thing. Because people are /inside/ the ring instead of floating around the edges, it's easier to have a few large crewed ships drop down a dozen fighters into the ring to raid. Similarly, the mining base has a spot for players who've docked their ship to deploy fighters (privately owned or rented from the facility) to patrol inside the ring to bash these kids in. Now you have larger ships flying around the perimeters trying to offer fighter support while fighting one another, small ships weaving through space rocks to blast one another, cargo ships hoping their hull holds out long enough to get those limpets back onboard and hunker down until they have an opening to fly far enough to jump out of the battle, and this can all be happening pretty much constantly. Now imagine if a resource beacon had a chance of being a pirate trap, if there was a small chance of the local system security showing up instead of it always having a presence there, if pirates had a similar chance of calling in a modified anaconda to just plow through the debris and rocks to unload missiles everywhere, et cetera. This would be fun as *fuck*.

This is a single example of one place E:D could develop the game. One thing, which could be copypasted across the galaxy. Tweak some of the events and modifiers for low, medium, high and hazard RES sites, add a couple unique ones in. A SINGLE example. This is what E:D should be thinking about.

The weird thing is that Elite does have an active storyline, but it consists of a dev throwing an audio or mathmatical puzzle to a handful of people on the forums that leads them to the next step like the alien sites and now the lost megaships they're just starting to find. It's the absolute worst way to have a storyline because of how inclusive it is. I bet the majority of Elite players don't even know this is happening.

And honestly just look at the trailers for E:D, especially early and pre-launch ones. The game focuses on sidewinders and other small ships doing hilarious things. The ships all fly faster on impulse than they do in-game. Big ships are largely sluggish and rely on being a monster to penetrate while brimming with so many guns that you *need* a small maneuverable ship to evade instant annihilation. This makes the need for players to keep modified low-end ships high, and being able to sit in a space station and just grab a taipan or sidewinder to throw out into the void to defend it from an attacking force would be a great way to make that feel fun. You could make this a key point to power shifts too. Maybe the local dictator is losing power and the upcoming corporate faction wants the local orbis to be theirs, so in a final push both sides hire pilots to fight in the battle for the station. Suddenly you're literally having that exact intense station battle from the trailer that drew you to buying this game in the fucking first place.

Similarly, in almost every trailer you see people scooping cargo might-flight. Imagine if this felt more necessary; maybe a battle is based on collecting resources, and having some people focus on collecting while others focus on shooting (everyone doing both as they need to obviously but you get the point) creates a dynamic here. I'm reminded of the somewhat recent Alliance mission to rescue survivors of a pirate raid taking slaves from a shipwreck. Imagine if the Empire and/or Federation was covertly funding pilots to go fuck that up to create instability in that space. You suddenly get a clusterfuck of CMDRs interdicting one another to cut off support crews getting to the wreckage, a scrambled battle between multiple factions to keep the rescue teams clear and more chaos, which in videogames ultimately means more opportunities for !fun!.

Why is CIG putting netcode overhaul onto the backburner for 3.0? The game is barely playable in its current state, 3.0 is viewed as a watershed moment in the game's development. If nobody can play all those sweet new features, what's the point?
>>
>>174788996
Part of this is because the active stories of E:D involve the writers of the books that E:D helps publish. These are on their own not bad, but because they're 99% of the story they collapse into a sort of sordid circlejerk and lose their merit.

Nobody would mind, of course, if E:D had some more far-reaching plot. The Galnet-broadcasted missions are a great way for E:D to get a branching storyline if they just make more missions where your choice of side/activity in the mission dictates what happens next. Broadcasting unique events like "[Faction] has built a huge fucking ship and plan to do [thing]!" and then letting people choose to go fuck it up or check it out or whatever and then building a story based on how players react to it would be grand. Hell, I bet anyone would be fine with the authors just writing a replay of the events of a storyline created by player choices and just telling it through the lens of their character acting as one cog in the machine of the events. Sure, they're just retelling something they didn't create, but they can write a character piece for the perspective of who the MC is, why they get involved, and how the events affect them. People love that shit. Make a series of the adventures of Self Insert McCharacterman being a minorly recognized figure in a chain of events. You could probably get a fucking TV series about that if you tried, Frontier. People would go "shit I helped DO THAT" and consume that media like hotcakes.

>imagined seeing a fleet of ships, that actually kind of look like sea ships in space, protected by Frigates, Destroyers, Corvettes and Warships
And instead we get whatever the fuck that is.

Honestly that may be the worst design in SC.

It doesn't take much to be more aesthetic than Chris

Someone in the art department needs to go up and slap him and tell him to fuck off. His input isnt needed except for the basic broad strokes on what a faction is about.

It could still work if the front "leg" move left and right. as you aim around.

Can we hit 800 before sliding off the bottom of page 10?

Thanks for reminding me there won't ever be a new Wipeout.

Space bump!

Did they ever add flight stick support to that? The game seemed to practicly designed for it with the pitch control and all.

I call bullshit and double standard
Your wipeout racers are all more similar than SC fighters, of course some of them are spaceplane but the rest is as diverse as you can ask and I'm not even including the alien fighters.
Listening to naysayer like you even ship like the Starfury, the Millennium Falcon or the TIE line would be unoriginal
And you would be criticizing SC design as well if their design was 'too crazy'.

But keep shitposting, maybe someday it will stick

No I don't think they ever added it, I could be wrong though. I just use a controller.
