It was generally worse for big spells, but better for spells with more charges
Like, I had to attune 3 or 4 copies of Forbidden Sun just to get 12 charges or something, and that took all my attunement slots. It still probably beats out FO when factoring in items that restore spell charges. Restoring 6+ Forbidden Suns with one item? Thats a good deal.
Really I just miss Attunement being used for casting speed, because that makes more sense

health is always a good investment. i take issue with a lot of other ideas here as well. 40 end is not a crazy amount, you can swing a UGS four times on that, and you're suggesting everyone build around less, while ignoring that casters get it even worse in this equation because of needing an extra stat that melee don't. maybe if casts didn't eat stamina it would be fine but they do.

this is a meta of low potential action, low hp and low potential for hybridization. i'd imagine it's good for random invasions but it doesn't strike me as one that's good for real variety in dueling.

Vancian casting is by far superior to mana-based casting, because it doesn't incentivize boring play that maximises fp-to-damage ratios. Having a manabar means that utility spells and large, climactic damage-dealing spells operate off the same resource track as your standard attack spells. It's a lot more fun (and interesting) to be able to have larger spells like soul spears use up a separate resource.

If I was going to use the assets they had in the game now, I'd throw vancian/charges back in while keeping FP for weapon arts (including staff WAs). It's not like sorcery is particularly overpowered in DS3 anyway.

Everyone takes hits in PvP, thus vigor is always useful no matter what, and because every action eats up stamina that's always useful too. Because of these things, the relationship between levels and wizards is actually the opposite of what you're suggesting. Casters want HP and stamina, then also need their casting stat(s) and then also attunement, and they'd really be best off if they could also squeeze in some str/dex to meet minimum requirements on good caster weapons like MLGS and Onyx Blade, and when you also consider how the 40-60 range is really good for casters on their spellcasting stat, 120 starts feeling a little cramped rather than too expansive. Meanwhile, a quality character is perfectly comfortable at 120 and pure str/dex builds are also landing comfortably at 120 by reaching 60 in their favorite stat and then meeting their minimums in the other physical stat, maybe finishing out around 45 vig.

This 80 SL meta still seems like a real stretch, like it's based around assumptions about dueling/PvP in general that just aren't true.

And of course you can do variations of all of those, for example on a Dex build you can go to 80 Dex and get crazy high damage from scaling, or get VIG to 50 for more health, or throw some points into ATT and Faith for Tears or Blessed weapon, or enough VIT to fast roll

Meanwhile at SL80 and below; you can stack VIG and END with a Raw weapon, you can get 60 INT and try to 1 shot people from a distance, and uhh... someone refresh my memory please cause I don't think I've seen any other kind of SL80 build

They should've kept both. Keep stamina usage for spells but have the magic system run like it was in ds1. FP bar should be strictly for weapon art use and they should speed up the weapon arts so the active skills (powerful attack/defense) would be used often to conjuncture to their basic moveset. Buff weapon arts should last longer to make their FP usage more effective. Weapon art is such a great concept that it brings additional flavor and personality to a weapon or shield that you would find a specific niche for one equipment compared to the others. Like mostly everything FROM introduces as new, they're poorly executed that while each of them are great as a trump card, most weapon arts started out poor or ineffective until FROM decides to patch them at a later date so more people would keep playing their game.

The issue with the magic system is that their requirements are too complicated to stay effective compared to simpler melee builds although it's understandable that magic will trump melee because of it's low risk/high reward nature plus spells will always be treated as a supplement to builds, not necessarily the main arsenal. If we're more lenient to how magic works by removing it's FP cost in favor of the old charge system then we would've had a near better game compared to the previous. I'm assuming the reason we got shittier spells is because FROM doesn't want you to spam them which is why lightning spear got the melee niche and the sorcery spells are either very slow or doesn't have great FP/dmg ratio (pyromancy is still great because it's a double stat and most enemies are conveniently weak to fire or dark). If instead we had the old charge system and better spells, we could conserve the spells sparingly while keeping their effectiveness.

The latter is amazing when 1-handed, especially for PvE. For PvP it's short ranged, terrible 2h moveset, can be parried in 1-hand, but has amazing scalings with buffs and raw infusion.

You know, I'm actually having fun with the deacons of the deep. I always try to kill all of them except for the one that's possessed. So far I've been able to do it for the 1st phase, but not the 2nd phase. It's a bit annoying, to be frank.

Hollowslayer is awesome, hyper armor, sexy appearance and like you said, a good moveset. The rolling attack is very good and besides the weapon have a 50% bonus against hollow mobs, which mean, almost every ennemy in the game
