Any good CK2 mods that make it actually play more like a medieval simulator?
Like a lot of the stuff like only being able to capture one province or Dutchyat a time and shit in CK2 really makes no fucking sense.

The medieval ages didn't have really any set international law (hell nations didn't even exist in any real modern sense) that the game tries to portray. Even the culture shit in CK2 is a bit weird, in the real middle ages, the general population didn't really give a shit about what "culture" their lords were. FFS for most of Englands life, the aristocrats lived in France and only spoke French and had essentially nothing to do with England.

Culture doesn't matter too much in CK2 with regards to the population of your provinces, but it does matter in terms of how your vassals treat you. This is reasonable. Willy the Conquerboy replaced most Anglo-Saxon lords with his Norman buddies for reasons along those lines.

You can capture entire kingdoms in single wars. If you're doing it one province at a time you're simply playing the game poorly.

Family is Scottish but I was born while they were living in England, they moved back up there when I was 7 or so. Finally I've started becoming strong enough to repel Britain's bullshit invasions. Managed to kick out the Thirteen Colonies completely, and I'll probably try and conquer the rest of the Caribbean soon.

Having a large navy is so important I even took maritime ideas, and I'm probably going to take naval ideas later. Right now Spain, England, and Portugal all hate me. As long as I have naval dominance I'm basically invulnerable.

War exhaustion by itself no, but it triggers rebels so I'm sitting on Ming and preventing them from raising armies until enough rebels have enforced their demands. So far the particularists have by occupiying Beijing and there are currently three set of separatists and some royalists.

Also Buryatia stopped being a tributary so Ming is losing mandate faster and the unguarded frontier disaster will soon fire which should help things along.

What are some good rules of thumb for figuring out how many of each you need?

Generally, for a big country with a sizable naval force limit, I've always made about 50 big ships, enough transports to ferry half my army at once, and filled the rest out with frigates (and galleys if I have an inland sea to worry about).

For V2... a good 20-20 fleet should do. Once again make a seperate transport fleet.

This is the best I could do. The call to peace became too much for me to handle. Ming lost their four largest tributaries though and every province has at least 40% devastation so they should remain at very low mandate for some time. If they don't properly collapse I guess I'll come knocking again when the truce is up.

All in all I think it went alright and was a good way to spend my golden age.

What the fuck? They were almost entirey occupied by rebels and then one day they all vanish at the same time. There were at least five different kinds of rebels occupied territory, why would they all dissapear after presumable one bunch enforced their demands?

Is the reason that late game CAV is so weak in EU4 because the fire phase happens before the shock phase?

In my colonially-focused games, I notice that a lot of the time, when I colonise in places that aren't designated colonial nations, the colonies end up being the culture and religion of the province pre-colonisation, so I have to convert them afterwards.

Between this and the annoyance of native uprisings, is it really worth it to keep the natives alive, or should I just murder them? Is that goods-produced modifier really worth it for those islands in Indonesia or in West Africa?

If I make somebody a tributary in EU4 does it put me in their current war automatically the same way making them a vassal does?

Cav isn't that weak in the late game, but that is partly why infantry is favoured.
I guess there are some other factors.

You can have up to 40k Infantry in the late game, while unless you have some extra cav ration you can only get up to less than 20k cavalry.
10k for flanking, 10k for front line, then 30k infantry for fron line.
I'd still be wary of getting below the cav ratio with that setup.
If you went that way 20k and 30k you wouldn't be able to as effectively stack combat ability.

A standard force of just going with cavalry for flanking, with 10k cav and 40k infantry would make more use out of the 20% infantry combat ability. For every extra cav you have your cav combat means more, and for every extra inf you have your inf combat means more.
I murdered france armies in the late game with just Cav+Artillery as a manchu horde, but if you're small in the mid game a bad fire phase can really screw you int he combat since it comes first, at the late game I could manage a bad fire phase though, I had reserves, then I'd murder them in the shock phase.

I think it would depend on the trade good, the #natives, and the development cost.

0.2 goods produced = 1 base production
Native Bonus = Natives/20000
So 4000 natives = +1 base production

If you're gonna put it in a trade company anyway then it is always worth to keep the natives.

Also if there's a chance of gold it's worth to keep the natives, since 4000 natives don't contribute to depletion chance like base production does.

Spy networks give a penalty to fort defence so it might be worth it to stick a diplomat in a country you're at war with/plan to attack to siege faster, the bonus isnt super high though, but there's not much use for a diplomat when you're at war anyways. Similarly, once you can study technology you get a -% to technologies that you don't have that are on the country you're spying on, you might save a couple dozens of mana points if you let the network build high enough.
