Someone genuinely explain to me how goro is so popular, I don't get it. As far as I understand it here is his plan/motivation

Has anyone ever claimed that Goro was right? As an antagonist, Adachi was much more relatable because he was just a nobody who made mistakes and even had justification for why he wanted the world to change. Akechi was a tool until the end and never cared about anything besides getting his revenge. Potter-kun was all about reforming society but Akechi had no reason to go against that other than muh daddy issues. He was being used by Yaldabaoth as much as he was used by Shido. It was pointless giving him the wildcard and making him the rival when he never had the personal agency that Adachi had.

First time playing I ended up rushing the Mishima link out of sympathy. I wanted to be more balanced but I saw so much of myself in him: the abuse, feeling worthless, the passivity, being an outlier even among your 'friends', latching onto the first thing that validated our existence. I've never felt so much in common with a fictional character.

And he's one of the most hated characters in the game. Even the idealized fictional version of myself is a shit.

What version of P5 did you play? None of this is right. Shidou didn't even know that Goro existed and his mother died from Shidou abandoning her. Goro got pushed around various foster homes which is where he got fucked up all in the head. The one time he was in control of his life was when he got his Persona, and it was at that point that he made his mistake of using his power to get revenge, rather than use it to make peoples' lives better.

Instead he works as an obvious lapdog doing the dirty work of the man he hates more than anything and uses his power to fuck over people who are 'innocent' in the sense that he has nothing to do with them

in particular him intentionally creating newsworthy criminals for him to catch is just completely abhorrent. that's beyond "bullied kid that had a bad life lashing out in revenge" and straight into sociopath monster territory. The other anon comparing him to light is correct because both characters were broken from the start and used their power for the wrong reasons because of that.

This is the sort of character where you empathize with them in the sense that "wow, if only he was treated better maybe those literally dozens if not hundred of lives wouldn't have been ruined, what a waste" not "TIME TO DRAW CUTE PICTURES OF HIM WITH OTHER BOYS" unless you're also broken

Her Luck reading only shows the additional point on activities that give 1 note, but it most certainly does work on all of them.
The Affinity one is intended to be used on confidants that AREN'T ready to rank up, and will give blue notes necessary to push them to be ready to rank up. It won't always give enough to make them ready to rank up, so sometimes you may need to do it two days, but it usually will. There's no visual indicator though so it seems misleading.

I don't even know what any of this means or what the point of saying this is. Goro despises Shidou because he was responsible for his mother's death, which also ruined his life consequently.

He is using his power to get revenge on Shidou. The point is that he's not trying to kill him, and he had no intention of ever killing him. He wanted to build Shidou up and then destroy his image when he was the most powerful. Goro IS completely broken by the time he gets to that point, which is why Shidou is able to use praise to turn him into a killer and make him like it.

The main draw for things like shuake is maternal instinct. I think they even said that on stream when Goro won the popularity poll.

Akechi is a piece of shit. Even Adachi was more moral. Adachi only killed like two people and both were practically by accident. Akechi killed scores of people for a dumber reason and even at the end only had a "change of heart" because he learned that Shido was going to backstab him just like Shido backstabbed everybody else. By the way, that also makes Akechi fucking stupid for not realizing that the main he was working for, who disposed of everybody, wouldn't dispose of him too.
