but then the old world needs them too. If elves can do spearwalls there's no reason why empire & wood elves can't as well.

Also need shield walls for dwarf & chaos units.

The first I fought wood elves my chaos chosen got absolutely decimated because all they could do is stand there and take missile fire whilst never being able to catch any unit.

There no reason elite warriors wouldn't make a shield wall in that situation to become literally immobile but missile proof.

Choshu is a pretty fun clan in general. It's basically a roaring rampage down Honshu to the capital killing everything in your way, and all your units have a charge buff, the ishin shishi further buffs the charge of all units in the army it's attached to, and there's a buddhist temple pretty close to you, so when it's all combined Choshu can easily have the highest charge of any clan in the game. Even basic levy infantry can shatter any enemy on the charge.

Its going to be in TWWH2, as a special bonus of the High Elves to simulate their dense formation rules in tabletop.

Things like wedge formation and shieldwall will disappear to re-appear as "special" racial abilities. Only bretonnians know the forbidden jutsu of the wedge, and only the high elves have mastered the unholy art of the shieldwall.

I don't actually mind wedge formation being restricted to the Brettonians, given that in the tabletop they uniquely got access to the Lance Formation special rule.

Besides, Wedge in previous TW games was almost completely useless. I can't think of any situation in any of them where I'd actually choose Wedge over a standard formation. Shieldwall, though, was situationally useful in prior TW games.

Norse pirate are suppose to hard to beat like that. Besides, their infantry is nearly the same stats as the empire swordsman and most of their army can be countered by a good empire army composition, which is one thing the empire is good at, creating counter army.

the norse tribes survive by:
1. commit cannibalism on their tribes people
2. pray for nurgle (for not feeling hunger) or slaanesh (for fabulous, tasty food) to give them food
3. raiding. The only, most profit way to get some high quality shit.
4. eat wild life found in norsca like trolls, wolfs even their own horse, whom they used in battles as well
5. actually good scavenger and survivalist that can find even the smallest hint of vegetation and animals in the ever winter land
6. fishing. Norsca is surrendered by water so ice fishing might be yummy. Though it is not sure whether the fish were mutated by chaos already, there might be some kind of monster serpent or giant kraken living under the norsca sea.

Still, Norsca is pretty shitty place, worst than Kislev. The fact the norse tribe is able to survive has proven that they are hardcore motherfucker.

Yeah, you said it yourself, Ironbreakers are elite units who know how to hold the line. Them not being able to shield wall to block missile fire and hold down a strategic point like a gate because you don't want to click a button is fucking retarded.

It's not a "be fucking ironbreakers" button. It's a "sacrifice ranged attacks and being able to kill shit to block this pass" button, and it's something the ultimate anvil unit should be able to decide to do.

If you don't want to use formation you could just not fucking use them, as it stands it's stupid that they're missing and the most elite troops in warhammer can't do the most basic strategic shit, even though it says they do it all the time in the lore.

The lower the modernization level you're at, the more it uses traditional music, even songs from Shogun 2.

As you increase in modernization, it phases the traditional and generally upbeat songs out, for slower, sadder tracks. Give it a go and listen, you'll notice overtime, till the point where you get to modernization 3 I think it is, and it doesn't use any of the old music anymore.

There are norscan farmers actually, there's sort of a class/tribes of norscans who live in small settlements and farm and such, and supply the raiding norscans.

In that respect, norsca is not well represented in the game because it's shown like entirely frozen and ice, when really the whole southern coast of norsca should be cold and bleak but not totally frozen so that people can live and farm.

Yes that's an obvious problem. It would have made more sense if CA did it that norscan invasions were an interval thing, like they happened every 20-40 turns or so for awhile then stopped till the next one. Much more sensible than a full military ongoing threat.

Like the norscans are a constant threat in the north, but really just as small raids (vikings) on coastal settlements. Then maybe every 10 years or so they do a decent sized invasion.

Also fun fact I just found, the runelord alter thingy does a knock down charge often on its attacks. Its basically a horse that charges mid combat, and it does a pretty good job keeping grom down. After 550 hours and about 80 campaigns I've had exactly ONE siege defense.

I just had an idea that you can have endgame units early by engaging in a huge base units battle and making it high casualty battlefield which you then use to raise dead. Is that true?

I've recently created a battlefield with 2k casualties and I was able to raise basicly all the units available for vampires (it was about 80 turns in the game however and I don't know if it would be the same for very early game).

On top of that you raise a % of your casualties after won battles and you can literally rewind units that took high damage.

Combined with fast and mobile bats to hold mounted archers until your slower units arrive, healing your monstrous units and being able to recruit supercheap skeletons everywhere on the map, I think they compensate more than enough for the lack of ranged units. Plus Mannfred seems like a cool guy who's not afraid of anything.

I've raised grave mounds super early and it only gave me dogs & bats in addition to skellys & zombos, but later on in the game I could get black knights & grave guard out of it, even later I assume I'll be able to get terrorgiests & such, but not before I can already tech to build them.

IIRC you can actually tech Drakenhoff to build every single VC unit so the use of Grave Mounds is still mainly raising an army asap.

For me Vampires are kind of fun but if I'm not playing Mannfred's army I get bored. They're probably the army that has suffered the most from unit abilities being removed because unless you have Mannfred there (or another vamp) being a supreme wizard you have fuck all to do in battles.

You could kind of fix this by doing a cav heavy army but then sieges will be impossible.

It's been a bit of a strange campaign. This is my first go at a Legendary Dwarf campaign. Started off with me getting the capital province then taking Death Pass (Grimgor had taken his garrison off to fight Barak Var and I went in a finessed Black Crag when he wasn't looking). Then while I mustered my forces in preparation to push southward Barak Var started decimating the Greenskins on the western half of the badlands. I was able to get all but one of the settlements of the Eastern Badlands (including Karak Eight Peaks luckily); Karak Azul took over the rest. With the Badlands Bowl over and the other Dwarfs too strong to confederate with I started the push north, and that is when I found out that Chaos had been busy to say the least. The ENTIRETY of the Empire had been raized, the only settlement the Empire held on to was originally a Brettonian one (also Kislev was able to survive somehow with, again, a Brettonian settlement).

If you abandon a province/region it gives you a negative public order effect across your entire empire, if you do that lots of times in one turn, your public order will be like -200 on the next turn so you don't want to be abandoning settlements if you can't be ready to deal with a massive fucking empire-wide rebellion.

What I do when playing WRE is pull all my armies back to defend the Italian peninsula (and the nearby islands) Let everything outside that territory fall but don't abandon them either, just build up and defend the territory you want to keep.

Just not against the kind of army you're bringing, they do terrible damage against heavy armor and are very vulnerable against an enemy that has the missile advantage

What the auto resolve probably IS overvaluing is your characters, especially since your lord is higher leveled than theirs and even more so if the ghost dads have a few levels on them.

I wouldn't auto-resolve that, auto-resolve meter isn't actually how fights always get resolved. Sometimes you get a meter like that which looks kind of funny, and it is kind of funny because when you auto-resolve you get a close or Pyrrhic victory.

Fighting early armies as Angrund is a cakewalk though, just send in your ghost dads first, watch their entire army clump round the unkillable fuckers and then flank them & shoot their shit up.

Dosh doesn't matter that much by the time you can recruit them in campaign. It matters more in MP, but it's pretty insane how much punishment they can take in melee(mostly because they kill a lot, not because they can take much damage). They will hold on.

Can someone explain to me just why in the fuck the enemy will just place units right inside it's front gate and NEVER move out to engage you, even when they have a huge advantage in melee and you've place you missiles just in front of the gate so you can just stand there and shoot them until you've exhausted all your ammo?

Step 1: upgrade your settlements so they have good defenses and nearly a full stack (or more) of defenders, so the battle won't over before it even begins
Step 2: war on two or more fronts, take your armies somewhere else so the AI will attack, hopefully with lots of troops.

Mind you, even with this strategy they're still not exactly common. But this way there should be at least be two or three sieges that arent doomed and worth playing per campaign. There's still a bit of luck involved, though. For example, I managed to get two Norscan sieges on Marienburg and another on a city in my capital province during my Bretonnian campaign, that were decent fun. But I never got one on my Empire campaign.

Eh, I'm a sucker for mysterious alien races, it makes them more creepy and dreadful as enemies, and more sattisfying to use. You can't have that with the other races because we know everything about them already, but only knowing some tidbits here and there is what makes the Hrud, for example, sound really threatening. (Like, in a series about pushing marine victories, a chapter of marines gets commended for being hot shit because they managed to survive a Hrud migration)

This is also why I don't really like the new nid stuff that makes them keep some form of memory of individual lords and the like, it's opposite to what the faction was all about. Attacking without siege weapons is horrible though because the AI doesn't use the map right at all.

Though something really weird happened.

He broke through my gate and then charge my longbeards with what was left of his cav and most of it was left.

I took all my thunderers off the walls to shoot into the melee at the cav, but after I while they were dying and it was quite strange.

For some reason it had bugged out and my thunderers arc of fire was pointing directly into my own wall rather than into the melee and all their fire was obstructed.

I re-targeted them at a different unit in the melee and it worked properly and won literally 30 seconds later because of the damage they took.

Hey man, I agree that AI buff cheese. Its not fun when you have -10 and ai gets +10 its literally 20 morale difference and playing as empire or chaos makes it really hard.

I use both of these, both of them overwrite certain tables in the mod. Normalized diff mod also removes penalty for public order only for you from. Quite helpful honestly.

What you gotta do is to subscribe to them, go to your Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\data , find said mods. Copy them, rename by adding @ at the beginning of the name so they will appear first on the list and overwrite any other mods. Now upload modified mod to the workshop, its set as private no worries. And resub to the *new* mod.

It entirely removes AI morale boosts and player handicaps like morale and public penalty. Check pic how its supposed to look.

The game tooltip is misleading, they don't actually have an anti-infantry bonus, and the game doesn't claim that they do - the tooltip says that they are good against inf because of the impact they can do on the charge.

depends on the game really.

but in TWWH then more trade will always mean more money, but never spend to a trade cap since trade can always be easily broken for unseen reasons and in some games even out right raided.

But generally more is best but if you have no trade partners basic industry buildings are better, some resources have alternate buildings that can be built that can usually be a bonus in the region sometimes, usually a recruitment bonus. so it depends how you tool out that province.

No duh, but I can tolerate some End Times stuff if it means getting skeleton pope. Hell, he could even be another potential end game threat like Chaos. Maybe there could be a few like that, so every campaign you play, it's one of a few possible end game events. You don't know until it happens, but one game it could be the Chaos invasion, the next game it could be Nagash reviving. Make it something determined and different each game so you're always on your toes and don't know what to expect.

OR go of the rails and have Nagash like the Chaos invasion, but can happen at the same time. So Chaos from the north, Nagash from the south, and the Old World gets stuck between.

Actually, they would get REKT'D. The high elf infantry is tippy top tier, think along side what Chaos has right now, but more geared for defense, meaning that any charge at them would be a kys move. High Elves are not the running and gunning puss like Wood Elves, they want to get you into poking distance.

High Elves are a hard counter to Bretonnia and any army that relies on charging cavalry for its damage.

/civ4xg/ is the closest to this and decent. Really dead when it's not just Stellaris general though.

/domg/ is also quite quality, though it is certainly more of a nexus for just playing multiplayer and lore is very backseat to gameplay, which is fine but doesn't suit general discussion as much as I'd like.

TW is a weird translation for what counters what compared to the TT.
Like Wood elves hard counter most large units because eternal guard are so good, but you wouldn't say they're anti-cav on the TT(except for like the terrain memery).

Toughness translates pretty well into HP per model, roughly speaking
Multiple wounds are mostly reserved for hero and monster units so that doesn't matter too much when it comes to translating toughness into HP for other units

Louen is best if you want some challenge right from the get go. Carcassone allows you to easily swallow southern realms almost right from the get go. And Bourdelaux is for being comfy while slaughtering Orcs for 20 turns, then running the Red Duke over and just marching to victory with your max level lord everywhere. They also have the coolest colours.

That's how wood elves work, their elite infantry has less HP than other factions equivalent, except for greatswords. Chosen have something like 100 hp per model, for example.
The only stat that doesn't translate well into total war is initiative, but it could be possible to tie that into attack speed

idk about tabletop mechanics but that would translate well to TW's mechanics

Wood Elves elite infantry don't really compare though. Eternal Guard aren't elite and wardancers and the great weapon lads aren't really supposed to be tanky. How will they do, say swordmasters and phoenix guard compared to them?
Just have them exactly the same but with a really high armor value?
More health per model but not chaos warrior level?

More armour and similar stats seems likely. I don't think elf units will have as much HP as chaos warriors, but phoenix guard have a wardsave that will make them pretty tanky even with lower HP per model anyway.

What's your point? Physical resists and wardsaves are better than just adding HP to a unit that had a ward save in TT, since both ward saves and the physical resistance can be nullified with items or other means, and it keeps the elves in character with their comparatively lower toughness
