It's always in face down defense mode, and it's effect just decides to trigger at random it seems.

Old Yugioh had a good amount of shit, duh, Kaiser for example.
It had some great artworks, however.
The newer card poses are 99% shit though.
Poses > how pretty the coloring and line is.
I'm not even saying the only good cards were from the DM era.
A big problem with the newer cards is how they feel the need to insert the entire monster's body in the little square.
Sometimes a close up of the monster has more impact.
The best of the newer cards tend to be object monsters or Toons because they let them have more interesting poses, or have a cutesy charm at the very least.
Most of the rest are lifeless trash.
