Only because a lot of people seem to think they were actually intended to be aliens. They're just another FEV monster.

Both actually. Plasma guns use a magnetron to ionize and superheat gas and a magnetic field to contain it within a bolt. Canisters could be liquid gas but storing it in translucent containers is pointless and probably unnecessarily dangerous.

So we can file this under Bethesda's ever-expanding dossier of design that prioritizes visuals over functionality.

Don't worry, Fusion Core loading model will be a cosmetic mod and also I'll have a functional conversion capacitor as well. The Fusion core capacitor has 20% less damage and 20% less firing speed. Which I think is pretty fair considering with max perks you can have a minimum of 1500 shots and a maximum of infinity shots with certain legendaries.

>>174325292

I've had my ideas (and more of them) for a bit longer than those guys, desu. I had the idea for a plasma BFG-9000 since early 2016 I bet.

I doubt anything would happen because I'm not stealing models, textures, or sounds, just making one or two of my barrels similar to theirs. I never used that mod but I really doubted I was breaking untreaded ground by making a gatling plasma or auto-scatter anyway.

I suppose if they were like Elianora they'd try getting me banned, though.

>>
>>174321551
>don't talk to me or my son ever again
>>
>>174326083

I'm making this mainly for me, but I'll share it with others. Also I've already made it this far, I might as well stay the course. This was the first time I ever made a gun mod with mods and also my first time making a custom PA part, including the modeling design work.

Sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming all the stuff I have to do, since usually projects like what I'm doing are done by 2-3 people at least. Seems like every time I checked something off the checklist of things left, I remembered something else, like adding these to the leveled lists and fixing issues with the randomized types.

After this I might do simple stuff like melee weapons and pistols for a while.

I had this really artistic idea for a Fallout TV show, something along the lines of Fallout 1's story, where it shows the Dweller slowly becoming the man the Overseer fears as he loses all his friends, including Katja and Tycho. Also, it'd be a lot more dramatic: the Dweller recruits various towns and settlements to launch an all-out assault on Mariposa, and later the Cathedral. And he convinces the Master to an hero, since we all know the Dweller is Albert. Finally, at the end of the series, when talking to the Overseer, his monologue makes sense: the Dweller will have, at this point, turned from a naive and hapless citizen to a ruthless and stone-cold badass. Then he draws a gun on the Overseer, who says:
>Go ahead, shoot me. Prove me right.
as he walks away, and the Dweller looks at his gun (the .223), finally realizing the monster he's become. He leaves, and a silent montage plays showing what happened afterwards, with Maybe playing, and finally ends with the Dweller, in hobo rags, walking off into the distance.

I have thought way too much about this. But what do yall think about it?

Makes one think.
Power armor is so damn common.
Yet somehow, Bethesda decided to scrap different bullet types, armor piercers, hollowpoints, overcharged etc.
This could have been the perfect combo.

Enemy npcs could have even have reflected on this by acknowledging the lack or possession of the appropriate ammunition.
Making listening to them (if even just slightly according to difficulty level) important in the midst of battle.

i believe they just sit there, since the animation involves them holding their sidearm with both hands while on the floor, so unless they're downed with both arms intact they're basically at your mercy.

i think blowing off their arm but leaving their legs intact will make most human enemies flee for their lives, not completely sure yet though since i literally just downloaded it yesterday.

Honestly I'm in my early 20s and I started gaming when I was 4 (1999) playing unreal tournament and quake. Went to battlefield 1942 and cod2, switched to CS in about 2005 and got hooked on that and the COD series for years.

Just always played multi-player shooters. Single player games seemed like too much work, but then I thought about how easy it'd be to beat a game when I can put in 8k just on CSGO in 3 years. And I wouldn't have to worry about getting yelled at a kid all day while I'm trying to game.

So I decided to man the fuck up and find a game I thought I'd enjoy. Remembered I bought NV back in 2011 and never played it. I knew the FO series has a good reputation, so that's kinda how I came to the decision.

Basically a CS and COD kiddie all my life, decided to play more laid back games and experience a story.

At least you picked a good game to start with.

Once you're done with New Vegas I strongly recommend Metro 2033 (not the redux version). It's very, very linear but it really demonstrates the narrative advantage that linearity has over open world.

Metro 2033 is corridor shooter done right.

Yeah that was my big problem with them. The guns mostly looked good and I appreciated the variety but the approach to the base game mechanics was bad in my opinion. I get that some people don't like the vanilla shooting mechanics but I hear people going on about how their mod is going to totally overhaul everything, the shooting mechanics, weapon damage, enemy health, ballistics, ammo availability... It just annoys me.

WARS mod is shaping up to be another like it, there's some great looking weapons and animations going into it judging by the WIP stuff but it's also going to be a total overhaul mod that replaces almost every vanilla gun in the game with something new and completely redo the combat mechanics from the ground up.

I just want a good looking gun damnit not your opinion of what the game should have been.

Thankfully there are plenty of great mods for that.

Cases, yes, so you can craft ammo later. Random junk, no, NV doesn't have that crafting system, while there are some specific items you might want that the junk is useful for crafting you shouldn't generally be grabbing every random object. You'll run out of inventory space fast.

Loot guns, sell guns, buy what you want.

Ammo cases are fine as long as you don't have a mod which gives them weight, then you'd want to avoid lugging them around unless you're focused on ammo reloading. Most junk items vary depending on what you want to craft if you do.
>>
>>174355709

Certain junk is useful for crafting, but you'll know what you need if you get to that point. Also some junk has a high value to weight ratio, so you should grab it to sell, like cigarette cartons and pre-war money.

>>
>>174356848

Fusion Cells are ammo for some energy weapons. Conductors don't do anything as I recall.

You can see the value of items in your inventory, you don't have to guess based on weight.
>>

Pick up thing based on value per weight, i.e. Fusion batteries (not cells) are valuable but very heavy so forget them, cigarette cartons are valuable and middling weight so take them but toss them if you need the capacity, pre-war money and ammo are weightless so it's always worth taking it. Yeah the cells are energy weapon ammo. Small cells for pistols, fusion cells for rifles.

The conductor you can probably drop, there is some crafting you can do but generally it's a wise idea to just wait until you have a recipe then find what you need rather than lugging about junk in the hopes it will be useful.

Your inventory will fill up with just the essentials before long anyhow.

And no worries, I hope you have fun. I certainly did, my love affair with New Vegas was long and satisfying.

Energy cells and Microfusion cells are energy weapon ammunition. Conductors are scrap junk, valuable to sell but heavy. You might need one or two for a fix-it quest. Sensor Modules are similar, also to fix ED-E, and to build mines.
>>
>>174357656

>There are plenty of non-generic junk items in 4.

Which you just break down into generic scrap. It's never like, "Man I need to find a biometric scanner and a targeting card to make this turret" because the steel from some forks and circuitry from a radio will do just fine.

The flip side of that is now you can have a wide array of junk in your inventory and on display at your "house" like antique globes or whatever. It also lets you loot sensible things from sensible sources. Oh, this turret needs to know who is who so it has a biometric scanner in there.

The FO4 system just makes your workshop a Bag of Wondrous Convenience.
>>
>>174358084
Ah, I see what you mean. That would've been kind of a pain to balance around though.

Best thing I can think of would be you'd craft the biometric sensor and targeting card from the base components, then do the turret.

But then it's just extra steps for no reason, since you craft everything by hand.

This game needs a Factorio/Modded MC crafting overhaul.
Oh wait.

>>174358532
I think a better system would have been to use the more specific items for crafting specialty stuff, and use generic "steel" and "wood" type items for crafting settlement buildings and the like.

Something else I never get in any game with a system like this is, why can I craft almost anything out of "steel" including homes, radios, turrets, guns, robots, and so on, but not gears. Gotta find those gears, they can't just be made out of steel like everything else, you know?

>>
>>174358807
>specific items for crafting specialty stuff
That's the problem though. Currently, they can just populate the world with their n junk items, which they are expert in doing, then just balance the crafting around the 31 components.

Distribute the 31 components based on the amount of the junk items in the world.
e.g there are few ductapes in the world, so let's make a lot of things require adhesive as to not trivialize the crafting mechanic

It's much harder to have a big crafting system with a lot of things to craft if every thing requires a specific component. You end up having to allow crafting of the specific components from the basic compoenents, and then the player just has to do another crafting operation, which is just boring, if logical.

>any game with a system like this
Care to give some examples? Honestly haven't played that many games with crafting systems like this, the ones I have are a bit more logical than Fo4.

>>174358931
You just need to go into that mod's files, find the Syringer texture and replace the actual Syringer's texture with it.

Hardest part is finding the texture. I don't know how those stations work, worst case scenario you'd have to cut it from the rest of the station.

Not to defend Bethesda's laziness in this regard, but they did mention House, Vera Keyes, and Sunset Sarsaparilla in game IIRC.

The DT system in F:NV basically made Heavy armor useless because it really didn't defend more than medium or light armors. This is why in JSawyer's mod he changes all the armors to have DR on top of DT. This is the best system IMO, but DR only at least has armor progression, which didn't really exist in F:NV vanilla.

What I always wanted to see in a Fallout game is an old-school "identify" system, but based on S.P.E.C.I.A.L and skills

3 INT / 0 Science = box of colorful worms

if you notice it, the X-01 already look crude compared to the Sleek design of the Mk1, even the guy who were doing it managed to get the idea right
>>
>>174375935
So what you're saying is that since the game is too easy already there's no point in adding different ammo types?

Have you considered that the people complaining about the lack of ammo variety also want the game to be harder?
>>
>>174376324
I'm not berating the design at all, I'm just not a fan of the idea behind it
>>
>>174375841
>>174376151

Yeah the problem with X-01 isn't it's existence, it's just the way it's introduced into the world out of nowhere, which is also my problem with T-60. It's not that T-60 was a bad design, it looks great as an update of T-45, it's just the way they introduce it into the existing universe as "oh it was the best PA but it was made just before the bombs and blah blah"

It's just a bad precedent. There's only so much shit they can try to cram into the hours before the war.
>>
>>174376397
The problem is that making the game harder just consist of turning up the enemy HP levels, and even then, you can do so much damage with normal ammo, that using alternate ammos like hollow point are basically pointless.

I would assume that this is why Bethesda axed them in Fallout 4, and tried to replace with with legendary weapon effects that achieve a similar gameplay mechanic, but try to offer more generally useful effects.
>>
>>174376625

>The problem is that making the game harder just consist of turning up the enemy HP levels

It doesn't have to be that way, if Bethesda wasn't so shitty. They could make enemies smarter instead of bullet sponges, make more dangerous situations where they player has to use their head to get out of it alive.

But that would all be a negative for the drooling retards that are their target demographic.
>>
>>174376509
>cram into the hours before the war
I'd like to see a list of all the conveniently timed technology, it's gotten silly.
>>
>>174376509

the T60 was already explained here, it was supposed to be the redesign of the T60 but they loved the old design and went forward with taht, it went from PA upgrade to a full fledged PA model due to the PA frames

the X-01 origins were stated already on the bible, the enclave revisited the old designs and made the Mk1 from it after they failed on creating an PA of their own from scratch, they went back to the X-01 prototype and worked it from there to create the rest, even Hellfire looks like a Mix of the best that the X-01 + T51b and T60 had
>>
>>174376928
Redesign of the T45d/Medical T47f

fucking auto correct
>>
>>174376757
>They could make enemies smarter instead of bullet sponges
See, the problem with this argument is that all NPC AI is based around needing contextually placed items that FORCE the AI to do something.

For instance, FEAR 1 is often cited as having some of the best enemy AI in gaming, even today.

However, the devs of FEAR talked about how its all just smoke and mirrors. They used basically the exact same AI as any other game at the time had.

The reason why it seemed smart was because the highly linear levels were specifically designed in a way to FORCE the AI to do things, because that was the only option given to them.

However, in open world games, this level of control over the environment doesn't exist, thus making achieving a similar level of AI proficiency impossible.

Which is why every open world game has dogshit AI compared to even bad linear games.
>>
>>174376768

The problem is that they always feel like they have to "raise the stakes" in a way.

To use Metal Gear as an example, let's look at MGS3. MGS3 worked perfectly as a prequel partly because it didn't actually feature a Metal Gear. It had the Shagohod, which was a threat appropriate for the time that the game took place withing the established timeline of the series. Skip ahead to Peace Walker and MGSV set in the 70's and 80's, you have these massively advanced robots all over the place, the anti-gravity UFO thing, Peace Walker itself transforming and running through the forest, the Skulls in V pulling weapons out of wormholes in their hands, etc. Then skip ahead again to the original Metal Gear set in 1995, Metal Gear TX-55 which can walk slowly and has some machine guns is supposed to be some big threat to the world. Shit nigger did everyone just forget about the god damn rail gun touting UFO thing?

>>174376928
Right but the problem is their introduction into the universe. It's been talked about a lot here, but if they just introduced T-60 as an upgrade kit to the T-45 and used in civilian riot control it would have been a lot better. Instead they tell us that it's the best PA ever and still used for riot control for some reason and there's so much of it laying around that the entire Brotherhood and Atom Cats mange to outfit all of their members with a suit.

X-01 should have just been a unique set of armor found in one location, like that bunker in the Glowing Sea, not able to find it in random places. It should be the rarest shit ever, being a prototype and all. I found my X-01 suit on my current playthrough at the Fort Hagan Satellite Array, just before encountering a boss in rusty ass T-60. Why was it there?
>>
>>174376625
What >>174376757 said.
Difficulty isn't just about hp and dmg, it's about creating a situation where the player needs to be smart to survive.
Although that is a challenge with an open-world game where you have leveled enemies that respawn every time the player passes by that area.

Still, bulletsponges are only really a problem with human enemies, which are only a part of the enemy pool.
You can make it harder to fight them by increasing their damage and forcing you to maximize your damage before you can get taken out, for instance.

>legendary system replaces different ammo types meme
This is just silly at this point. The legendary system goes hand in hand with Fallout 4's design philosophy of explore-gather-craft, which is why all the quests feel the same, and why this game feels like a "theme park" mmorpg.
Magic legendary enemies and their magic legendary weapons are a byproduct of this idea, and not a replacement for different ammo types.
>>
>>174377402
> Instead they tell us that it's the best PA ever and still used for riot control for some reason
Because it was still in testing phase.

In case you missed it, Boston was the test bed for many new technologies such as the T-60, the fatman, and Vertbirds
>>
>>174377896

one of the main reasons of why the chinks nuked the glowing sea as >>174375841 stated

boston was one of the main vertibird factories
>>
>>174377896

>Boston was the test bed for many new technologies such as the T-60, the fatman, and Vertbirds

Of course it was, because it was the location of their latest game. If they make Fallout 5 set in Miami, suddenly Miami will be a testbed for the secret Advanced Advanced Power Armor Mod. 0 but somehow there will still be T-60 and X-01 there too.

I got neither of those feeling from Fallout 4.

Silver Shroud, Diamond City Blues, the Big Dig, Confidence Man, none of them felt the same, or even remotely close to it.
>>
>>174378425
That is an incredibly stupid and baseless argument.
>>
>>174378441

Not him, and kind of off topic, but you notice all the best parts of the game are generally the small stories when Bethesda isn't trying to write an "epic" main quest or inject shit into the lore?

I love their Dunwich locations, for example, but in contrast their use of Super Mutants and shit leaves something to be desired. They're better when they do their own thing.

I actually thought their use of super mutants in Fallout 4 was great because it not only tied into the overall synth main quest, but also tied a lot back into what the Master was trying to do in Fallout 1.

With super mutants being the result of a flawed version of FEV, being injected into humans with radiation corrupted DNA.

While synths are the result of perfected form of FEV injected into pure human DNA.

Not longer super mutants, but true super HUMANS, as the pre-war military wanted to use FEV to make.

Oh no doubt there are several unique quests in this game, but there is an ungodly amount of go here>kill this>grab that quests in the game as well, which is something I see people complaining about. That and the lack of choice in these quests.

Just because it's an open world game doesn't mean it can't offer a challenging experience.
They handcraft all of the dungeons and have several enemy types to choose from. How hard is it to make a dungeon that doesn't feel like a cakewalk?

Without making it even more linear with even more tons of shit meticulously placed in such a way as to block you path, and force NPC AI to do seemingly complex shit?

Impossible, which is why no game beyond those that did the same sort of level design as FEAR 1 have achieved the same level of AI "complexity" as FEAR 1.

There is one, and only one, way to make NPC AI not totally shit, and its really not compatible with open world games.

> but there is an ungodly amount of go here>kill this>grab that quests in the game as well,
Which
A. should exist
B. should be the majority of quests given that kind of shit is exactly what would be the most commonly asked for shit in a world like Fallout's.

Because, unless the NPCs are actually doing a lot of "complex" AI shit, the only way to make them stronger is to buff their HP, and buff their damage, shit all the modern Fallout games do in spades.

Hell, Skyrim and Fallout 4 have special NPC only perks that buff their damage by 20x compared to what the player would have, on top of NPCs getting actual benefit from the default perks.

And despite all that, all people do is bitch about it being lazy game design.

So, its really not going to work.

I thinks those rebalances that make the player AND the enemies do higher damage but die quickly are the best way to do difficulty.

Small things they could do would be make enemies not yell out combat taunts every 5 seconds, use better cover animations that doesn't leave most of their body exposed, don't populate their loot lists with 90% piss-poor pipe weapons, etc.

There's room for improvement, even if it's not quite to FEAR levels.

Picked up radio chatter in the area just before sundown, I could tell for certain they were in power armor, gotta be Brotherhood. Whoever it was, they seemed to just be passing through on the way towards Cambridge. Decided to hunker down here under the hangover of a Reds, anyway. Snagged 2 boxes of Blamco from the building; an utterly blissful taste of before. Did have to fend off rabid Molerats who were similar connoisseurs of fine pasta and soda pop. We won the day.

Heading towards downtown is always a crap-shoot.

Cait: Oi. Grab us that drink? These cunts taste like arse.
Nora: Don't worry. I'm pretty sure I don't have botulism, Piper. Who wants my bit?
Piper: "pretty sure"?

I'm playing one right now since I found an explosive minigun.

It's definitely better if you plan on using PA a lot, since the explosive weapons are generally heavy. Even the thrown ones add up, since they have weight unlike ammunition.

I feel like you're being facetious, but yeah. SOME revolvers CAN be suppressed, and not ALL shotguns can be suppressed.

So, why did the game ignore revolver suppressors, especially when they had the opportunity to make up receivers that could allow for it?

I can't find it on the Nexus anymore, but it was literally just a combat knife texture replacer with a "sexy" woman posing on the blade, and a pitch black handle.

Probably because they didn't care to/didn't fit their image of revolvers.
Also, the pipe revolver has a suppressor available, it's just the .44 mag and the western revolver that lack them, which makes sense considering they're traditionally loud and powerful guns.

Well first off, do you even understand how revolvers work? Or why the large majority of them cannot be suppressed?

For a quick rundown, every time you fire a round with one a gas leak happens in the gap in between the cylinder and the barrel. If you're being a fucknut or not holding it properly this can easily cut your fingers off or badly maim someone. See Big Boss. You can't silence one for that reason, because it would be completely pointless as the bang bang comes out of the cylinder and not the barrel itself.

The only revolver off the top of my head that can actually be suppressed is the nagant revolver which is specifically engineered so puling the trigger on it pushes the cylinder forward into the barrel effectively sealing the chamber.

Also the ending is the pinnacle of bad writing; the three radiation immune companions refuse to enter the radiation chamber. Just buy a DLC to retcon it.

Alright. Allow me to rephrase. I threw myself against a wall with a combination of skills that the game didn't allow me to exploit, and it fucked me. I specced Small Guns, Energy Weapons, Throwing. There are next to no grenades in FO2, so the plan to use them tactically fell apart. And energy weapons are a no-go unless you blatantly rush them.

It seems like you're expected to dump 300 points into Small Guns or 300 points into Sneak, and then to stack Speech and Lockpick either way.

NV is a little overrated, but it has by far much more replay value than FO3, mainly because it has so many more quests. I've done essentially everything multiple times in FO3, but I've had NV for 4 years and I've still never done a large chunk of quests, and many I've already done have other avenues or options I haven't. Obsidian's strength is lore writing and quest design, and that is where NV really shines. You do need to mod it though. YUP and convenience mods using NVSE and JIP functions is absolutely necessary, and things like New Vegas Uncut series and especially Outside Bets really help flesh the gameworld out.

>>174399235
That's bullshit though, Fallout 3 is a good game, a good Fallout game, and a decent RPG in it's own right. It's just perpetually shit on because it's not Van Buren, and was the symbolic "death" of the Fallout franchise (as it started the descent to the shallow sandbox RPG).

The only gameplay mechanic that NV improved from FO3 is the ammo and weapon mod system, and the crafting station system (and that needs scripting mods to really function properly). The skill checks in dialogue is not an improved mechanic, but it is more present in thr quest design which is NV's main superiority. On that note, in some cases I think NV's mechanic for skills checks is worse than FO3's, because it's a fixed skill threshold and it's not obfuscated at all. I'd prefer the system to have some "wiggle room" through RNG (although less effect it has in FO3 which could fuck you over even if you should otherwise be skilled enough, FO3's few skill checks can "That's X-COM, Baby!" you too much). But the NV skill check system has it's flaws with "[44/45 skillcheck] dur hur dur failing the threshold by one point makes me the equivalent of a retard hurr". The non-obfuscated, no wiggle-room threshold system for the skillchecks in NV were a mistake. Quests and quest-design otherwise is great though, and that's probably the main aspect of what makes NV so good.
>>
>>174401123
Why not? Why can a man be skilled in both?
>>
>>174401801
Rng skill checks don't mean shit if all you're gonna do is f9 f9 f9 f9 f9 f9 until you get it. At least in Nv, if you cant do it, tough luck, you can't do it
>>
>>174401801
Not him, but I actually found most of NV's quest design to be pretty bad(not that Fallout 3 was by any means great mind you)

New Vegas's biggest problem was that it had all of these quests, but most of them lacked the context needed to make those faction's interactions with you make any sense/

The Powder Gangers, The Great Khans, the Fiends, the Casino Families, all of them just sort of give you quests for reasons that amount to nothing more then "you are the player character".

While Fallout 4 has less factions you can get quests from, I think it did a far better job at making your interactions with those factions actually make contextual sense.
>>
>>174401123
>A grunt wouldn't have small guns and energy weapons at the same time.
Why not? In modern military even if you're not trained to be a mortar or support weapons user for your unit, you still learn how to operate those weapons. There is no reason a pure combat character shouldn't be functionally useful throughout the whole game.
>>
>>174401123
>Well then reroll and go get 'em, Tiger.
The issue is more this seems like the only viable build if you plan to play the game generally. You can do a high charisma run or a high strength run, but they really force you down different routes to get specced. So it's more a linearity based on your starting position. Certain options in certain quests are like milestones for certain builds, and there's no real opportunity to recover if you don't take those options. Or so it seems.

What I disliked the most about FO3 was the world map

All the cool shit like Megaton, the DC area, Rivet City, Pentagon, Tenpenny tower, etc, was all in the southeastern square of the map. I really don't remember anything noteworthy in the areas other than that, besides a few areas you had to go to for story quests. I also desu got tired of the Metro system pretty damn fast.

New Vegas on the other hand felt like it was a bit more fun to explore, even if it was a smaller map. I also liked its soundtrack more, "Anything goes" and "Tickled pink" kinda get old after a while. I still think NV's radio was better than FO4's as well, but FO4's was better than 3s.

The lack of any sort of airport was a big letdown for me, same for the absence of Union Station/monorail terminal.

Also, more broadly speaking it would have been more interesting if they had a larger Enclave presence in DC, such as having the US Capitol be their main headquarters which would have made for a more interesting place to explore than the rotunda behemoth we got ingame. Also, I why Beth didn't make the eastern side of DC accessible (lets them use Site R in the far northwest while chopping Andrews AFB off onto DLC) but letting the player approaching Andrews from the ground would have been funner. Also, IRL Andrews AFB has a golf course attached to it, which would have been fun to see.
>>
>>174402053
I actually savescummed more in NV for skillchecks than I did in FO3, mainly because so many times I was like 1-4 points shy of the threshold, so I'd end conversation, reload, pop drugs and/or wear clothes to get the few points, then redo the conversation. Fixed thresholds that aren't obfuscated from the player are stupid. Also I never said RNG should be the primary component, I just think you should be given a chance if you're not quite at the threshold of success. Basically in NV there is no reason to even have the failed skillcheck dialogue options to even appear beyond flavor, but in NV vanilla with no UI mods, the dialogue menu fucking sucks so even the flavor text can be more hassle than it's worth.

>>174402192
Hmm, I could see that to some extent. It is sort of like how every romantic partner in games is now "player-sexual", in NV all the factions are "courier-wanted". I thought NV was alright at that in how House contacts you early when you enter the Strip. That interaction at the early part of the game believable sets the Courier up with some local renown, so I can buy other factions around there being open to hire you; although as you say, how trusting everyone is right off the bat could definitely be tweaked, and your general premise I can agree with.

>>174402723
I disagree, I had a good time exploring FO3's map, and some of the best quests and stories didn't occur in the D.C. ruins. But even then the DC ruins were great, good mix of hazard types, and the partitioned worldspaces of the seperate neighborhoods balanced the pacing and threat distribution well (of course nowadays not having a contiguous gameworld is a no-no).

The Commonwealth is decent, great variety of geography and locations, but in the dense urban areas the hazard distribution is too dense. Ruined block of buildings with a raider stronghold across the street from another block of ruined buildings with a super mutant outpost.
>>
>>174404793
Like, I see the metamechanics of One Hander giving you an early benefit and a long term penalty. You get +20 with pistols. So for the early section of FO2 you're in a much better position. The -40% accuracy on rifles hurts you in the long run, but not immensely so long as you're smrt and gear appropriately.

My current game is explosives focused. Got a couple of grenade expansion mods, nothing that increases damage though. Good for early survival, as frag grenades will one-shot almost everything you encounter. Molotovs have been modded to do less explosive damage but more/longer DoT. Hardest part is eyeballing throws and timing until you get the grenade arc. Fits my scrappy scientist build.

Rule of thumb is: if outnumbered, use grenades and auto-pistol to pick off survivors at range. Otherwise I just run up and shoot them point blank with a sawn-off. Early days and low level, so a lot of raiders have a re-supply on their bodies. Have not needed to craft anything yet, but I'm saving baseballs for baseball grenades.

Only bad situation came from a mod, Nowhere is Safe. Slept, spawned a couple of cannibals and drug addicts right next to me, in the version of the mod that wasn't supposed to do that. One had frag grenades, the other had a combat shotgun. I had turrets on the corners of the Sanctuary house, but 2 spawned in the living room, so no line of sight. So they throw a grenade down the hallway or blast me in the back before I can even turn around, die, load autosave, die immediately again. At level 3. Managed to run into Sean's room, bounced my own grenade down the hallway and took them and Dogmeat out. All the wall barriers block explosions, which is something you need to account for if using grenades in interiors. Something blocks line of sight, fair chance it can stop an explosion.

The Master remains the most morally grey villain in the entire series, on the topic of FEV. In fact, his fucking name is Richard Grey.

Humorously, if Richard Grey is grey Richard, Dick Richardson is the dick successor to Richard.

Body Horror is one of my least favorite things in the world.
>>
>>174406826
Well, Body Horror wasn't even the thing with the Master. The thing with the Master was that when he fell into the FEV, he sort of literally became absent the concept of the self. He grasped onto this idea that he thought was a good idea even though it was horribly flawed. He had a passion and thought he was legitimately doing the right thing.

The Master was a very human villain despite his appearance. Dude was trying to save humanity. And his way didn't even involve genocide. Most of the murder was Lou's fault.

I was thinking about that the other day, in a way The Master is the only antagonist in Fallout that wasn't a relic of the old world. FO2/3 Enclave is obvious; a literal USA Federal government remnant, and the big three factions in NV are all connected to the old world either literally (House), culturally (NCR), or symbolically (Legion). All the FO4 factions, while having a unique bent to the post-war world, are all culturally connected to major aspects of the old world themselves.

The Unity and The Master have really been the only major option and faction for going "the next step" and really figuring on the future as something beyond the husk of the human-destroyed world, but it was so alien that the surviving remnant of humanity would never accept it.

Ackshully, Richard Grey fell in the FEV vat. The blob that is The Master is composed of multiple people, which is why it has multiple personalities.

>but it was so alien that the surviving remnant of humanity would never accept it
Well, that and the fatal flaws of the lowering of intelligence and the sterility.

Though, speaking of aliens, if we're going to look back with modern evidence, there's some totally speculative evidence that the Master may've been carrying out an alien agenda. If you take aliens as canon. Because given the trend, the FEV may've been from the aliens.

Also, here's a fun little potential FO2 build. Low strength, pistols until you get the Strength module or reach lv12 for Weapon Handling, and then you can carry anything that doesn't have a 7+ strength requirement. When you get power armor you can do everything.

7 Int is required for a check to prevent having to unnecessarily rob a grave (though you'll need to either rob a grave or wipe out one of the families to get the 8th charisma point)

AGI 10 because AGI 10. Action economy is god. PE 7 to raise to PE 8 for Sniper.

EN 6 because I like having a steady 5 HP per level.

Debating these tag skills. Lockpick, Speech, and Gambling. Because with this build you're going to be hiding behind people for a while. So it allows entry, coercion, and making cash. Small Guns, First Aid, Repair, Science, and Survival are all able to be booked, and the game gives you more points the lower they are initially. Melee and Unarmed are also trained up by the game through training by NPCs. I may be missing a few. Let me know if I am.

Got around 230 plugins for Fallout 4. Can't start a new game with them active, can load a game just fine.

About 60 are weapons and armor mods. 40 odd npc and faction overhauls, this includes stuff that modifies vanilla raiders, add new NPC's, like WoTC, new critters, new robots, modify AI or appearance, such as making glowing critters glow more. Got another 40 odd settlement and crafting mod plugins for about 30 mods, so they play nice together and don't clutter the menus. 30 odd quest or expanded content mods, this includes proper quest mods like Maxwell's World and stuff like Beantown Interiors, Subway Runner. The rest are all environmental stuff like lighting tweaks, True Storms and Darker nights.

Not counting texture replacers. Using a lot of compilations, so even if I were to merge some stuff, I could only drop that list of plugins by 10-15 before I needed to do significant xEdit work.

>>
>>174410507
except theres literally no difference between the two. It would be like having different skill trees for every single weapon, because they handle slightly differently. At least with medieval weapons, they actually take a good bit of training to use effectively, i.e a mace is very different from a sword, etc. But guns really aren't that different from eachother, when they're in the same category, and a laser pistol sure as shit isn't going to be so insanely different from a normal one that it requires specialized training to use.

Holy shit. That weird low strength optimized build I am experimenting with in FO2? First level up gives you 14 points. You put 4 into Unarmed and 10 into Melee and it perfectly matches the requirements to get both trainings from the village. You raise Unarmed to from 36 to 40 so that instead of Lucas's training bringing it to 40 with the low cap it brings it up to 55 with the high req meant. You raise Melee from 26 to 36 and Jordan raises it to 46.

The build is fitting together like a jigsaw puzzle. I love it.

There are about 14 weapons total in fallout 1, and not that many more in 2.

On top of that, they all perform the same function since it's turn based, they just have different stats. It's just not for me.

WHY CAN NO ONE MAKE A SIMPLE STEEL BOX WITH FUEL TANKS, VACUUM TUBES, A ROUND CARRY HANDLE AREA SIMPLY SHAPED LIKE A CYLINDER, AND A TRAPEZOID VENTILATION SPACE IN THE REAR.

IT'S BASICALLY FOUR SHAPES AND A STEEL PRONG WITH MISCELLANEOUS PARTS THAT CAN ALREADY BE FOUND IN GAME ADDED ON.

I could at least get the basic model done in nearly any fucking program even autocad, or google sketch up, but the only issue would be the texture.

All you would need to do is create the basic shape, nifskope in things like the fuel tanks, wires, bolts, handle, vents, and a few other things, and its basically done.

The other guys made something so simple and cheap it might as well be literally just a box made of plastic.

Buff on the otherhand seems to be using nifskope the wrong way by mashing a plasma rifle with a Gatling laser, instead of taking them apart and using them to add to the base of the model.

I wanted to make something unique instead of a box with a prong on it and tubes. There's a WIP of one that looks almost just like the NV one anyway so I guess you can wait for it. I wanted to make a Plasma cannon for a while and I don't think a prong on a box would be a good enough base for it.

Modding jetpacks is easier than expected. I mean, why is something that you would assume is SUPER complex is actually a lot easier to mod than something that you would think shouldn't be that complex? FO4's whole setup boggles my mind.

Can't say I've had a problem with bulletsponges yet, even Super Mutants and Mirelurk Queens go down properly if you hit them where it hurts.

>>174440417
Proof?

thats literally bannable on nexus so i think you are talking out of your ass. I have seen people banned for lesser stuff than that and nexus is pretty good at banning.

Actually why dont you state the features that you cannot turn off ? because all the features that are added can be turned on and off and if you turn everything off, it is basically the scripted version of the mod. I think you are actually talking out of your ass.

>>174440541
No it's not. During the great mod wars we had before FO4 came to this general, there was always a general agreement that the "muh realism" fags should stop playing NV if they wanted a "more hardcore" experience. Relism != good gameplay otherwise sniper elite and medal of honor would be selling millions of copies instead of COD.

He has this armor piece that you can upgrade to give you ludicrous amounts of carry weight, but when you get in PA it doesn't work because PA nullifies the effects of other armors.
So when you get inside PA you effectively get a huge carry weight penalty.

He said he *might* fix it later though.

'scool. I've really just been having a tough time deciding between Horizon, Immersive Gameplay, War Never Changes, and trying to achieve the same affect by using lots of smaller individual mods instead. My main concern was how they all handled combat and loot scarcity. I could deal with weird carry weight and crafting systems if the other stuff was how I wanted it to be. I'd actually started up a playthough with IG a little while ago, but I might just switch over to Horizon if raiders continue tanking 15 rounds of 7.62mm to the chest.

Not really. FEV was a product of the prewar government, with most of the abominations that inhabit the wasteland being created before the bombs dropped (not that radiation didn't play a factor in their growth, though). The Master was the result of a bad industrial accident by scavengers, whose new form decided it would restart the original supersoldier project and take over the world with it by spearheading it with religion.

I just finished Tactics again and came to the realization that it has the best balanced economy in the series. I ended up spending every cent I had on things that I needed, and there wasn't an over-abundance of free stuff to be found in the campaign.

In contrast every time I play any of the other games, at first I start off poor as fuck and start gathering cash to afford better stuff. But I always end up running into said stuff for free and I get into a never-ending cycle of going around all the shops just selling shit. In the end of the game I'm always loaded with nothing to spend the money on. Not with Tactics. Even in the final point of no return I was able to spend the little I had left on precious 2mm gauss ammo.
>>
>>174464523

This is incorrect. The terminals in Fallout 3 mention using sewer rats, not mole rats.

Nothing in any of the games links mole rats to the pre-war project.

Holy shit these people read like insufferable cunts. I hate the pasteurized container that the internet has become.

Na, its not the internet in general, just people stupid enough to post comments on things like mods or youtube videos

Except the Boston super mutants are objectively smarter then the D.C. ones.

>bethesda has the opportunity to make unique wasteland mutants for boston

perhaps I should have clarified

unique humanoid mutants, like the trogs in the pitt or the inbred swampfolk of point lookout
>>
>>174472140
>unique humanoid mutants
Unique humanoid mutants wouldn't be common outside of small areas like The Pitt, or Point Lookout, that have environmental problems that make normal humans living there difficult.

Which you wouldn't find in a city like D.C., or Vegas, or Boston.

Is there a more broken combo in New Vegas?

>tfw you see the light and use a scoped automatic rifle with the steady aim perk
>recoil won't cause the gun itself to obscure your target during long range fire thanks to the scope
>your hip-fire is accurate enough to reliably hit anything closer than midrange while maintaining full field of view and movement speed thanks to steady aim

My problem with Commonwealth Super Mutants is how retarded the motive for them exisiting is.

I think it's worse in DC but it's been a while and I don't recall all of the details.

>tfw no mutated deathclaw
can't remember what it's called but its in the conept art of fallout 4
looks fukken sweet

because dude 50's lmao
>>

It looked retarded, like someone cross a deathclaw with a wannamingo.

And there is a reason why Wannamingos were all killed off after Fallout 2.

There are some great essays out there on the politics of and deeper insight into the A Song of Ice and Fire series out there. I have seen some good videos on the history/politics/lore/ethics in Fallout but can anyone recommend any good essay series?

I need a mod that disables her personal quest so she stays a robot but I can still romance her.

Energy weapons+speech+science with a luck build and critical perks. I was literally god by the time I got the Laser Commander perk, and with the Compliance Regulator nothing would ever touch me (as every third shot would be a critical, and anything that wasn't ash was paralyzed). I was basically a Wizard. I just walked everywhere with impunity, and anything that would talk to me I'd get my way, and if it wouldn't talk or didn't like my way, it'd be ash or a puddle of goo soon after.
