If you're faster than the enemy, they can't counter your attack. It keeps you from doubling on offense though, and doesn't work against magic attackers. You SHOULD be able to counter and double just fine on defense, though, since the effect isn't active then.

You can't save every village. Definitely not at full health. Look up which ones have items and prioritize those. Gold is plentiful, you can get about 17k per character per chapter via the arena. There are some good infantry, Jamke, Ayra, and Lewyn come to mind. There are items in Chapter 2 and 3 that basically give a unit of your choice a horse, give them to Ayra.

People dislike Azura because she's a terrible character.

She doesn't even feel like an actual character most of the time. She's just a black hole of bad exposition, plot devices and TONS of "boo hoo pls feel bad for me" shit that gets fellated almost as much as Kamui does for their "strength" and """wisdom"""

At least with characters like Elise or something, even if they had really stupid and contrived deaths too, you at least got a chance to see how they are as characters, which meant there was at least SOME weight to losing them. Meanwhile the ONLY time Azura isn't being some tragic emo fuckwit is in her support with fucking Kaden of all people. They put her through this gauntlet of suffering in an attempt to evoke pity from us but it does nothing but evoke indifference and makes the moments where she's in distress have no real weight to them since it's so hard to have a connection to her in the first place.

And of course her retarded plans and strategies which really need no explanation.

Azura's a white knight's wet dream come true but she's a fucking awful character. I really don't even know how they fucked her up so badly, she's easily one of the worst aside from Corrin. Even in the DLC they try to play it up with the "THEY WON'T LET MUH SPIRIT REST" shit and all I could think the whole time she was on screen was being frustrated that she's probably getting off on that shit.

The more I think about it, Azura is kinda like Ninian, except with all the good things removed and the bad things amplified tenfold. Like, Ninian's a bit of a glorified plot device too, but at least she has some characterisation with her interactions with Eliwood, Nils and other characters, which made losing her kind of sad.
