The fact that horses are synced to the server when ridden and not synced to the player or become a player dependant object makes them super annoying to use, since any world loading means your horse is gonna tard out.

Well, actually I do. I use the zombie as the basic enemy in life, speed and damage. But I think it shouldn't matter that much because a skilled player should be able to clear entire areas virtually undamaged.

This game is meant to be played with a shield. Enemies are damn powerful, but they all have their weaknesses and tricks, and you'll be obtaining all sorts of overpowered items if you explore enough. Some of my casul friends played it and they skipped all the uniques, and so they got rekt in nasty ways. As if this wasn't enough, there's all sorts of traps and some castlevania 1-tier hard platforming.

Finally, there's something I decided to call "The Iron challenge" which is pretty much beating the game with a full iron set, which is mid-tier equipment. I've tested every monster and boss with an iron set on to see if I could beat the game myself and it's actually doable. That means that if you get all the special items and abilities you should have no major issues with anything. And if you don't like the platforming... just find the right items and it will be babby tier.

tl;dr: all stats to 3-4.

Nope, I can't really recommend anything. Can't remember anything about any of them other than the fact that Tekkit had tech mods. I've also played GT Horizons, but I don't even remember what all it had in it.


I recommend starting off of a big tech mod if that's what you're into, like Industrial Craft 2 or Buildcraft or something.

Gregtech generates ore veins in massive, widely spaced bubbles. You can (probably) craft a book that describes the parameters for oregen or look it up on the wiki. The two veins you would be looking for are ones with Chalcopyrite (copper), Pyrite (Iron), Copper and Iron (requires tier 2 tool) OR one with Yellow Limonite, Brown Limonite, Malachite and Banded Iron, all of which smelt into iron and can be mined with tier 1 tools (aside from banded iron IIRC).

Iron veins are some of the most common. To find them you need to dig - you can't just explore caves or hope to see them in a bare rock biome.

The veins spawn in 3x3 chunk areas in a regular grid. Pick a chunk, dig straight down to bedrock, note which vein you see along the way, and mark it on your map. Then go back up, move three chunks over, and repeat. For best results, bring up your F3 and check the chunk coordinates - the center of the vein spawns where the coordinates are a multiple of three, plus one. Digging the center of a vein guarantees that you will see the ores from only one vein rather than two overlapping ones.

Don't bother digging horizontally. You'll just miss most of the veins.

I've now set up a tier 2 void ore miner, and it looks like it's running smoothly and it looks like I can run it and the resource miner at the same time w/o it being a drain on my solar array.

I can now get iridium ore and fully upgrade my Advanced Rocketry machines. Still the only source of titanium is through netherrack, as rutile ore is not on it's grab list.

The main problem is making it not a chore you have to do to keep playing the game, and making it engaging and helpful while also being a duty that needs to be carried out. It should be time based so you don't have to eat every x actions (eating 10 cows of beef in 10 minutes because you are at a mob grinder is stupid)

Make foods give specific low power but long term stacking buffs. Make being full give a little bit of an overall buff. The buffs should last a whole day (which in game is 20 minutes).

Make being starved. not have immediate drastic effects, but a slowly growing set of encrouching debuffs that get to the point where you can't do anything and die. Many mods have nothing to give you after fully upgrading your power system and machines, and the game seemingly ends after getting your RF-powered armor, tools and weapons fully charged. If a tech mod would have some kind of endgame challenge that's unrelated to materials processing, what would you prefer?

Personally, Thermal Expansion has a step in the right direction with the introduction of Blizzes, Blitzes and Basalzes. However, the difficulty should be ramped up somehow.
For Minefactory Reloaded, how about the concept of pollution? The more machines are around an area, the less likely that grass will grow from that area.
Matter Overdrive shows promise with its features, but needs a bit of polish in some places.

Last I played, RS is less retarded with balancing. The things needed for it aren't microcrafty to the extreme and made from normal materials. If I recall, it's also chisel and bits compatible, so you can hide the cabling easily. Plus, item storage is handled in plain straight forward numbers, every item is just 1 item instead of some weird amount of data.

I liked RS more than AE2. The casual aspect of it is nice, but I was never much of an automation buff, and just wanted a mod to handle item storage.

Actually there are almost no spawners. All monsters are handplaced NPCs and they respawn every 400 seconds at night only. That way, it encourages players to use the beds at night, unless they're overpowered, which by the end of the game they should be.

On the other hand, spawners needing light to spawn makes breaking candles all the more fun, so I may change the whole thing or at least add some of this.

Use FoamFix mod for ram issues, serious. I find Heat&Climate a nice all a'rounder, also have NEI installed and its craft recipe index keys setup if you never want to get lost building the new climate recipes (except for cheese).

Further tech mods -> something like immersive engineering.
Being a hippy -> Foresty has 1.10.2 builds.
Trains -> that main train mod does not have complete support. I got basic track and trains support.
Magic -> the fuck do i know? H&C has a cute magic dagger/staffs/trinkets system using gems and climate conditions that does things to the world, it is very OP.
No mods around like Thaumcraft, i understand many anons here won't leave 1.7.10 because of that.

Yes. 1.7.10 has literally been a major modding version for 2 years before 1.10.2 finally became a thing (2.5 years if you count 1.7.2). This is why no version will likely ever beat 1.7.10 in terms of content amount - the duration of RedPower being gone was far smaller, at just 7 months between the 1.2.5 and 1.4.7 release.

Its a big mod, but the combat mechanics make you get tired so you need to rest, zombies are more likely to spawn with swords and any mob that has one can block your attacks, even npcs. The thing is they will be harder to kill and you will have to replenish stamina (not much time), but theres also a super attack.

I don't think this is from lack of wanting it, there's a few reasons why it just plain can't happen though
1: mods are unstable. 2b2t runs like shit already, and it's vanilla. Mods would destroy that shit eventually. I guarantee you, if a server owner tried their best to fix everything, someone would eventually shit the server up till it was unrecoverable. Even with backups, it'd eventually gum up so bad that nobody would want to stick around.
2: Mods can only stay on one version, maps are generally nontransferable. People get bored and want new features, even if it's mojang's pithy contributions, it's still something to keep people there.
3: also, mod communities aren't that big. 2b2t works because anyone can join with plain ol' vanilla. Not only do people have to know about mods, they have to know how to install them, which is easy, but people are retarded.

People who play modded generally don't care because they don't care about combat, and the people here like to stick to a version before it, not because they don't want the combat changes, but because 1.7.10 has a huge amount of mods compared to other versions

People who play vanilla are split on it, Some like it, some don't. I personally feel it's a good change, spamclicking isn't engaging, and having an offhand slot is nice for modded content

The "PVP community" hates it. Spamclicking was the basis for how combat is done there, and to them, it limits what you can do and makes pvp too slow.

So I'm rebooting my 1.7.10 server and I'm trying to clean up my mods. I need suggestions with what to replace which.
I recently cut Twilight World, Caveworld (pretty fucking awesome for resource collection), railcraft, traincraft.
There was a JP rollercoaster mod that'd fuck up and explode the server and I don't know why it did that.
I'd like to get rid of Thaumcraft but the chest sorting automation with golems seems to work better than with everything else. I forgot what other unique features it adds but most come from the automagy and reliquary addons.
Should I abandon 1.7.10, is 1.10.2 actually fucking worth anything?
Keep in mind I'm hosting this off a RAMdisk and giving my server and client enough memory to function easily.

the world filesize is on the order of 5GB now. that's really fucking difficult to manage for backups and pulling it down from the server to keep an offline copy. some cheeky nigger going out to 200k didn't help, that added 800MB to the total world size.

thermos was a good idea to cull the mobs spawning out of control, but it added unlimited problems with mods that add features that could do something in the world were crippled by 'muh blok persimmons'.

I still find the game incredibly fun (playing about 2 years). My survival world is so alive now I can just stare at my lighthouse for ages, or tend crops and trade with my townsfolk.

As for why I haven't modded at all, first of all I don't know how. It took me about 5 days just to figure out how to duplicate my save game. Second I'm not really sure what mods would appeal to me. I don't like automation or heavy magical/fantasy elements as opposed to more realistic ones. I would prefer a range of new passive animals to farm over ice golems, goblins and such to fight for example.

One thing I am very interested in doing eventually is learning how to change the textures to something else but like I said I don't know how.

I just fucking HATE tinkers construct and everything about it. I hate its retarded fucking tool system where the tools are either inferior to ones from other mods or are EXTREMELY fucking MAWPC. I hate its faggot smeltery shit that gets clogged with a tiny bit of left over liquid metal of some kind and you have to throw it away because there is no real way to automate storing it since the fucking faucets don't respond to redstone and can't be moved so you have to deconstruct the entire thing and replace it. Make a Coordinate Selector(?) and right-click it on a block to set the coordinates, then shift-right-click it on the telepad to link it to those coordinates.

how is two people dead? that's a regular userbase for any server on /mcg/.
when there's 10+ people on a server that is NOT the regular user count. that is the influx of people to a new server, the powergamers grinding to 'end-game' to win and leave. the first month or two is never representative of the final population base once the novelty of a server wears off and people stop showing up, barring any other reason.
A handful of people that regularly visit a server, maybe 5 on at one time, is the ACTUAL userbase any server in this thread.

If you want 'more active', well, wait for whatever new server comes up. that GTNH server might have 'more activity' for the next week or two until it either goes under because the pack is a disaster of whatever reason or, as usual, people stop coming on because the novelty wore off.

It happens every time there's a new server. I keep fucking saying it every time people post about whatever server being 'ded', and that the only way to keep it "alive" is to go on.

So, I'm playing on the GTNH Autism serb and I keep trying to figure out the ore vein system. I took the advice of people from the last thread and started digging down in the middle of chunks with coordinates of multiples of 3 plus 1 and it mostly works. A few questions though:

1) For negative coordinates, is it still multiples of 3 plus 1 (-2, -5, etc) or minus 1 (-4, -7, etc)
2) Do the stone veins such as granite and marble take the place of the ore veins or can the both exist?
3) Are ores biome specific?

If anybody can answer these it'll be a lot less tedious for everyone that plays on the server because it will allow me to mark everything

I want most of the game experience to be solo. Wish I could make it more eerie at some areas, but what I can do with Minecraft is pretty limited. That said, there may be are a few companions, for a while at least since the platforming and the AI would make it annoying. They won't be easy to find though. Romance is also an option.

Describe your lag.
There are several types.
One is blocklag, and other associated problems with low tickrate, or integrated server problems.
There's low fps caused by many things ticking in one chunk.
Then there's the lag spikes and stuff which is caused by hitting peak RAM.

Also do /cofh tps, I think that works.

First we fix dungeons. If you're going to go RPG, go all in. Add an RPG mode.

Give the overworld some actual fucking dungeons like BotW style shit or something.

Plains Dungeon: Fight through hoards of randomized zombies with player skins that are slow, but hit hard and have good hitboxes.

Desert Dungeon: Attack the bandits inside the desert temple and take their spoils for yourself. Make sure to kill them fast or one will sound the alarm and summon more bandits.

Jungle: Fight tribals and their cat mounts. Use vines and trees as cover, but be careful of the dart blowers, who can poison you. Bows recommended.

Snowy Dungeons: Snowmen, driven mad by global warming block the way. Push blocks to open doors and bring fire enchantments to defeat the regenerating snowmen.


Swamp Dungeon: Tread the muddy waters of the murky biome to find the crones trying to summon a Minecraftian Horror. Take out the witches and their slime familiars before Yog Saren is summoned and infects your world with his eldritch spawn.

Extreme Hills Dungeon: Dark Dwarves populate this area, wielding axes and clad in dark iron armor. Swords and bows ping off their armor, but they seem weak to pickaxes.

Navigate the fiery depths of their forge but beware of the dragon powering their machines with its flames.

Ocean Dungeons: Sirens, Mermen, and their Guardian pets lurk the depths of the world's oceans. I hope your brought flippers and night vision. Dodge tridents and survive by entering air pockets to face off against the Queen Mermaid.

Bonus:

Nether: Towering fortress bathed in magma and encased in hellish creatures. The Pig Lord rules over this domain. Bring fire resistance.

three fucking years browsing this general, the last two years checking in at least once a day, and things have been in a stagnant predictable pattern. A new server pops up, its "alive" for a month, the people that showed up for the novelty leave. The people that actually want to play on the server stick around. Then people start fucking complaining that 'oh its dead'. No, it just doesn't conform to what you expect to be "alive", bursting at the seams with players online.
Did you know that there are about 20 players that hop from server to server as they crop up and die? I know that. Because I've been browsing here for long enough to see well over a dozen serbs go up for a couple months and die off. I pop in. I see the same player names. Pop in every few days, fewer of the names online. They don't stick around more than a month.
I know that those people don't stick around for long, because I've seen it on my server. The same people that just stay for a little while, just long enough to get a handful of shiny toys, then leave. These people do not build much more than whatever structure they need to house their machines and such.
But then there's the people that come on regularly, over time. THEY build things. No one builds things? What the fuck about the people that have been building rail infrastructure on Trainserb? That one guy that's making a village of brick houses? Fucking, pumpkin man building a wall of pumpkins. Another anon building a complex of autism. Thaumoctogon 2.0.

No one builds anything? Fuck you. Fuck your crew, fuck your nostalgia, fuck your idea of what an active population looks like. You want your old days back? Build new ones.

Too lazy to post, but I got a Gourmaryllis setup fed by a Soul Shard Pig Farm that produces Cooked Porkchop. Three spreaders feed to the two pools connected to the Elven Portal and one spreader feeds to Spark-linked Mana Pools.

If you play 8 hours a day, and you know the mod in and out, it would take you about two months to get to that point. Maybe 2-3 weeks with a team of GT experts.

So far everyone I've played GT with has gotten bored around the time EV machines come out. The furthest I've gone alone is a Fusion Computer Mk II to make Huge Turbine Rotors.

I'm trying to install ftb skyblock factory pack 3 and it keeps crashing at this point in installation after slowing down a lot/very high processor usage. client gave error related to asset not being present over and over again at various points.

Right now, I'm still on the "New Home" quest.

Which is a rather long one, because the Warp Core is a structure that demands for 15 titanium blocks. And the only source of titanium dust is through nether gravel, which is netherrack hammered. And since there is no nether in this world, you have to either use a lava farm and/or these void resource miners to generate your netherrack.

Also I put some companions which will follow you for a day and help you with some bosses.
Most of them are just one-time companions for certain areas, kinda like Dark Souls.
There are 5 companions so far, 2 of them you can keep them forever and ALL of them are hard to find, plus you'll need to give them a special token. My favorite so far is dogbro

I may include more. Feel free to make your own suggestions. Which I may or may not ignore.

Hunger is the biggest sin commited against this game. It's shit, it's fucking dogshit. I don't care about Hunger, I don't want it to be in, all it is is a fucking annoying ass timer to aid RPGshit combat.

Agree one hundred percent.Back when I played on a bukkit server and even now with servers that use witchery I rush vampirism so I don't need to deal with hunger. Been playing for like 20 days in game time and have used like 1/12 of my blood stores. Feels good.
