I'm gonna assume those 3 with the eyepatch, the blue hair and the ponytail near Hibiki are characters from Sugita's game. I'd like to see something like this too. I get that Mai coming to terms with new self is part of her character arc, but it feels like instead of accepting who she is now and who she was, she just abandoned who she used to be.

I expected her to act more boyish and relaxed, or even change pronouns after it was discovered that Mai used to be a guy. But instead she just full on becomes more girly.

It would have made a more interesting character, if Mai retained some of her boyish traits, ideals, and mannerisms, while blending and accepting them with the fact that she's now a girl. Kind of like a Ranma. Although I don't mind things like being attracted to boys now, liking cute things, and wanted to look more girly and showing more confidence being a woman.

It would also be cool to see in the future if there's some sort of family redemption arc, where Mai kinda gets reminded that, while going off and being all girly girly, that she's still the heir to one of the 12 families, and finds a way to embrace that part of her, who she used to be.

Regarding women fighting, the sample is rather biased since this is a fighting game. Women aren't stereotypically expected to be combatants so Mai's behavior can be seen as being boyish. Celica never attacks anyone in the story, while Trinity hits Terumi once but otherwise never fights either. Linhua ineffectually pounds her fists on Tager at one point, but that's not fighting.

Ranma isn't a good example because his transformation to a girl was temporary and easily reversed, plus he only treated it as a disguise or temporary inconvenience. Ranma never had to adjust to life as a girl on the long term. Besides, Mai did retain some boyish traits such as thinking that ninjas are cool or loving transforming heroes. The fact she likes strange creatures and loves reptiles can also be seen as boyish, as does her willingness to fight.

Don't forget that only her close friends knew that she used to be a boy; she still wanted to appear as a normal girl to everyone else. She did become more relaxed over the course of her story though.

The ending of Remix Heart did show that Mai had it as a goal to prove her worth to her father and earn his respect, so she didn't really cast her past behind her. That would have made an interesting story but it wasn't covered in Blazblue. I guess we can imagine she did it after the games ended.

No trait can be said to be truly gender specific though, other than things such as giving birth. There are men and women who do stuff that is considered normal for the opposite sex.
