Thief is useful if you're doing a bleed or Luck build and need some utility spells like Spook.

Herald has an unreasonable amount of waste Luck, and waste points in physical stats if you're going a pure caster build (not to mention a higher than usual amount of Vit). Cleric is only slightly less shitty because it minmaxes Vit, Dex and Int better (at the cost of even more Luck than Herald for some fucking reason).

It's almost a requirement now for every build but maybe dex builds. My 99 strength build now has softcapped vig, end, str and 30 vit and still has better overall absorption compared to the old version that didn't use chain.

Casters can use it and not lose any real absorption and get free 5 points of end and vigor, which they desperately need if they aren't 120. It might be a better choice than FaP as well for caster that aren't already at 30+ end.

I feel like you have this image of a PC user that just doesn't match up with reality. No one upgrades their rig yearly, at least no one buying cutting edge tech. What would be the purpose?
