ESSENTIAL STELLARU MODS?

Note that if you try to study the titans there is a chance they can attack your colony.
The way this works is that they appear as a neutral invasion. You'll need to build like ten assault troops at least to take it back from them, and you can't bombard your own colony in this situation for some reason.

Just advice to hold off on researching the project if it arises until you can deal with that potential consequence.
Having to drop minerals and energy into an army that early on can hurt.

It's "Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka?"

A web novel that got adapted in a manga. It's intended to be another deconstruction of the "NEET gamer find himself reincarnated in a RPG world and make everyone his bitch" fad. The writing is decent, the translations are pretty shitty, and the manga makes the spider way too cute as opposed to the disgusting monster she is in the novel.

And I'm still waiting for a good RTS with spiders, and ants, and wasps and shit.

Corvette spam is still a thing, it's just easily countered ever since they overhauled combat a few patches back. Evasion was heavily nerfed in general, and they also added tracking to weapons as an additional countermeasure against it. So while corvettes can still evade large weapons, they have a harder time with smaller weapons, which have better tracking and accuracy. Also missiles have extremely high tracking which makes them perfect counters to corvette spam, especially since corvettes can no longer have point defense.

You can still get by spamming corvettes though, because they're cheap and fast and if the enemy is spamming cruisers and battleships they'll have fewer small weapon slots to deal with corvettes.

Also in terms of weapon meta, kinetic is now meta, lasers are meh, and missiles are generally bad past early game because the AI spams point defense. They nerfed laser armor penetration and accuracy and buffed kinetics by giving them bonuses against shields AND armor that scale with weapon size. So kinetics are good at all stages of the game. Plasma is also very strong because it's armor penetration is still very high, no reason to use lasers at all once you get plasma.

when you unzip the compressed file it gives you a folder and a .mod file with the same 89849849 number that the mod

the folder needs to go in the workshop folder created inside paradox game , somewhere in program files

mod file goes alone in a folder named mod

if you open the mod file using notepad it will show you how the path needs to look like for it to work ,

pull the other one.

Floating 10k-20k+ energy is something everyone should do once they get the opportunity.

>late game energy is easier to get than minerals
>energy can be used to buy minerals, curator help/scientists, artist troupe stuff, spice etc.
>helps to maintain positive balance even when you have 500k + of jump drive naval power flying around at the same time

Minerals is still the name of the game and mineral input allows you to get more of everything else, but floating energy gives you some flexibility and reassurance. Plus it's quick and easy for making economic factions very happy.

Because it's too similar to Civ V and in turn slightly similar to Civ IV and Alpha Centauri.

I have put literally 2000+ hours collectively into those three games to the point where I really couldn't give much of a shit about Civ any more.

That being said Stellaris is a piece of shit and the only fun I have is in spite of the game's design. It's fun enough on multiplayer where you can scheme with or against other players but that's understandably hard to do with the time investment required.

However, this is how it's turned out, rest in peace.

The one I'm using in that picture is Planetary Diversity, which allows you to start in Tomb Worlds. However it also adds like 20 new types of colonizable planets and balances habitability.

Processing if you need food 10 years.

If you don't want diplo pen - Displacement - who knows

Forced labour takes 20 more years than extermination but they produce food & minerals. Could be useful if you are planning on building mines or farms on the planets anyway.

Neutering is a waste of time.

If you don't want them.. just resettle one pop of your species to each purge planet and exterminate the rest. Deal with it in 5 years.

>being this much of a retard
>>
>>174040532

YES it does, it changes where it fires from thus changing it's coverage.

if you put flak cannons on the nose of every single battleship and cruiser you'll see a massive reduction in missile, strike craft and corvette problems, if your enemy is using them.
It doesn't matter so much with your PD destroyers, but keep in mind destroyers will sometimes be BEHIND the cruisers rather than in front, so your cruisers won't always be behind the PD shields of your picket destroyers.

>>174040609

Doesn't really tell me that much, what is their fleet composition like? Lots of corvettes? Lots of capital ships?

Large weapons target battleships and cruisers, medium weapons target cruisers and destroyers, small weapons target corvettes, generally speaking.

If they have a ton of corvettes then your big gun battleships aren't going to be doing much work.

>>
>>174041040
Deffo this. If you specifically go for MoN in mind as your first one you can ignore virtually every blocker tech and save a ton of early game resources while getting access to potentially lucrative worlds and tiles a lot faster.
>>
>>174040927

No, what was the enemy composition? Or are you saying it was roughly the same on both.

Naval power is fucking stupid and doesn't tell you much, the battle-end screen does. Something is clearly going very wrong.

How much damage is each individual weapon type doing efficiency wise? Kinetics are good against shields and armor, but are your small guass guns really doing as much work as small plasma cannons would do?

>>174040976

In the case that you've already gotten your way through most of that tech, take the technological one or something, something that's better for long term.

Mastery of nature is cool but has a niche because by the time midgame comes along I tend to terraform everything prior to colonization, but it can depend on your luck and how much you want to blob.

I didn't pay attention to the composition but their energy damage split roughly 50/50 large plasma guns and large disruptors. Kinetic was mostly KA with some gauss.
70% of my energy damage was torpedos and the rest plasma. Kinetic was basically the same as the guys who rekt me.
>>
>>174041146
yeah the first prosperity one is really good so i always get that

after that it's really up to you. im a research whore so i go full discovery into technological ascendancy for a sweet 20%+ research
>>
>>174041146
Prosperity is strong but it shouldn't be the first one you complete, or really take any points in beyond getting the initial bonus. Generally I only take it first if my starting area is full of rich mineral locations and good energy locations so I want to spam mining stations to get ahead fast.

Normally I take expansion or discovery first depending on if I plan to expand quickly or I'm playing a tallish talented meritocracy for early level 4 starting leaders, fast research and 100% success chance anomalies.
>>
>>174041146

Discovery is great in my opinion, gives you a bigger chance of alimonies, research points, leader levels and finishes up with a whopping 10% to research that stacks well with the ascension perk that also gives 10% to research. Expansion for early colonization and maintaining all those outposts.
>>
>>174041264

>I didn't pay attention to the composition

Free shrugs then, there's not really much I can tell you.

If they were doing a ton of damage with large weapons that suggests that they were probably wrecking your larger ships with big guns, so i guess they probably have bigger ships as well.

Kinetic artillery destroyers mixed with energy torpedo corvettes are a nice counter to enemy capital ships.
However you should probably also change your guass guns on your corvettes, destroyers and cruisers to plasma cannons, those are the ship classes which usually get up closer to enemy fleets and get into brawls.

If you're going to have guass guns on anything put one or two on your battleships along with a couple of plasma cannons.

Typically I find that the neutron torpedoes, kinetic arty destroyers and your heavy artillery battleships do more than enough to strip shields from everyone

Plasma cannons ignore like 80% of armor or some shit, you want your brawling ships (vettes, destroyers, cruisers) to have some serious armor penetration.

>What are the best early traditions? Prosperity seems stronk with that 33% off mining stations
diplomacy, domination and harmony are memes in the early game.

Prosperity is the worst of the "better" options imo.

Discovery if you are a tech empire, and the larger the map the better, spam out science leaders & ships, get automatic exploration, get the Planetary Survey Corps and you will be swimming in tech.

expansion is great, 2 pops per colony, an equivalent to the rapid breeders trait, capitols producing unity & getting +2 core worlds when finished.

Supremacy has 20% border range, a 15% fire rate when finished, admiral skills & ship building speed.
>>

Listen dude you're asking me to give advice on how to overcome a fleet composition in Stellaris without giving me jack shit about the actual composition, enemy ship balance or their shield/armour balance.

What you CAN do is jump into close range by fucking around with positioning so you can get into knife fighting range asap so you're not getting ripped apart by large guns.

You could, for instance, stop using battleships altogether and focus entirely on cruisers and destoyers with + evasion and afterburners to get into close range ASAP. If they're stripping down your shields very quickly then your recharge capacitors aren't going to be much use anyway.

Why do social welfare and utopian welfare make your pop more attracted to egalitarian and less to authoritarian? Shouldn't it just give some governing ethics attraction, as your pop's richness and standards of living are proof the current system works?

Since I take the planets from other empires I usually don't pick the size, but when I colonize I prioritize big planets of course. Small are acceptable if they have bonuses to mineral production.

Later in the game you can engineer your slaves to suit your needs with strong/thrifty/industrious of needed. Be sure to maximize the output with silos, slave facility and +bonus slavery governor aswell as with Share the load edict.
Pic related is what a good slave planet can do.

I don't play with sectors though, I manually upgrade every planet myself.

Negative traits guy here again. I made some brutal gene-mod traits that require the maximum ascendancy point thing.

For those that weren't here last night, I made a mod that allows you to pick more thematic and/or difficult negative traits. Some of them are gene-moddable, too. The ones in pick related are gene-mods but only with the advanced perk.

Primal does more than that - it forces 100% happiness, -20% growth time, +10% migration speed, -100% mineral, food, energy and science from tiles. Basically, you gene mod some poor fucks with this, give the planet to someone you don't like and watch as they proliferate across their empire.

Here's the link:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=905584315

The super-gene-mods aren't gonna be in yet. I need to test if they actually work first. Plus, balancing. Tell me what ya think.

Zero Point Energy, Battleships and Space Fortress.

Get a Field Manipulation expert for physics research to get the ship reactor techs.

Get a Voidcraft expert in engineering to get Battleship, Space Fortress techs.

Once you have the pre-requisites techs, use a Voidcraft Expert in engineering to get the Megastructure tech. If you rush it with the right experts you can "easily" get megastructure tech by 2270.

>not autistically tweaking your custom empire including bio and custom flag/shipset

I actually do that though.
I'm just saying there's no excuse to have to jump around pages as you flesh it out. The first run through should take care of 90% of the empire creation, and you should only have to go back after to tweak things you realize don't really fit like traits, ethics, or civics.

As it is I set the appearance, and namelist. Jump ahead to government, set that. Go back to set all my names. Then jump to the end to set ship type and weapon type. Then I go back to adjust civics and traits. And finally I set city appearance because often times that's determined more by civics or government than race type.
>>

Pleasure slaves
> +50% happiness
> No unhappiness penalty from slavery

>>174046240

There are no uber-positives, no. Infertile was designed as an opposite to Fertile, both being Biological ascension mastery traits. I forgot about pop controls, so yeah, infertile feels really redundant I agree. Probably gonna drop it if I can't think of a good alternative.

>>174046506

I really like Berserker. I'm not sure if it's possible to set happiness to 0 outside of a modifier reducing it by -1000000% or something, but I have no idea how the game will handle that. Will give it a try.

Hedonistic is in there, to some degree. -50% governing ethics attraction is all it is. Consumer goods cost is definitely a good idea, growth time too. Don't think the food change is possible.

Restless is good but a bit extreme in the negatives, I think. Would probably drop the -food and -minerals to simulate low end/simple jobs that you can pick up and put down quickly.

Thanks for the ideas.

No.
This is why you should a) never trade star charts, and b) never scan in AI systems (wait until you inevitably conquer them), and c) should never research/use Automated Survey Algorithms, because automated survey ships WILL go into AI systems.
>>
>>174046737
If they failed to spot them but it's highly unlikely.
>>
>>174046895
AIs don't "find" anomalies.
Anomalies aren't generated at the start of the game and then lie hidden in wait for you to find them.
Anomalies are generated on survey. Every time your ship surveys a body, it rolls a dice, and there's something like a 2% chance of finding an anomaly.
So the AI can't "find anomalies before you" because the anomalies don't exist until your ship scans them.

# Government Requirements
# -----------------------
#
# Government authorities and civics use a custom list syntax instead of normal
# triggers in potential and possible to specify valid combinations:
#
#
# possible = {
#
# ethics = {
# # All of these are required:
# value = ethic_1
# value = ethic_2

Does that mean it's not possible to have government types not tied to ethics in 1.5+?

So, the only actually remotely useful strategy for mechanist is:

>make your starting species fucking useless paces of shit for minerals and combat
>use robots to do all that shit

Which is what I did which was quite nice for an early game boost, but had the major issue of still being somewhat lost opportunity late game.

To be honest mechanist and sync evolution could be changeable by reform and still be relatively balanced in current form.

Is it better to annex planets of vassalise?

Context: I just annexed my neighbour and am in the process of exterminating them to repopulate the planets with humans.

But the next neighbour just had their fleet blown to pieces by a fallen empire so I need to strike them now.

I can either take some planets off them or subjugate them. Which option is better?

FYI I just about have the full supremacy tradition done and am about to start domination.

Just get NSC (New Ships and Classes) - the ships are pretty expensive minerals-wise, but it has your bigger ships. Doomsday ships you'll have to grab from ISB (Improved Space Battles) though, but you can grab those ships as a standalone mod.

If you need a challenge from having stupidly strong OP ships that the AI can't seem to challenge well, I'd suggest getting LEX as well if only because of this anomaly that pops up eventually - The Watchers of the Throne.

Unlike pre-banks though at least I can barely scratch the Watcher itself this time! Even though its absurb shields recover at about 10%-20% per tick and it recovers armour about 2%-5% per tick. I think I need a fleet worth a few million to be able to finally take it down.

After replaying again and having some fun (I guess) I think one of the main issues with stellaris is, in many respects, the devs are fucking boring and unimaginative in many situations.

Let's take one fucking example, ships in vanilla:

In the vanilla game, when ships are destroyed, they don't explode or have any real visual feedback, they kind of just drift a bit then despawn into a debris object at the end of a bottle.

What kind of boring cunt looks at this and goes 'yeah this is good enough for a big sci fi adventure experience', no big nuclear reactor explosion, no easy visual feedback, nothing suggesting a giant hunk of metal was just blown apart with zero-point energy generators being torn apart inside.

Just kind of drifts a little then despawns.

I appreciate this is the tiniest stupidest most irrelevant thing possible in a game, but fuck me can you see this lack of creativity or spark in almost every single area of the game.

Ah, a fellow Nexus player. Yup, those explosions were fucking good but I don't think the sheer numbers of ships in Stellaris can accomodate screen blinding explosions whenever a crusier goes boom.
>>
I actually find the arthropoid ships to be the most intelligently designed, the corvettes especially. If you look at their firing arcs they're specifically designed to put the highest volume of fire on target while exposing a minimal silhouette. They have thin single weapon blind spots interspersed around the entire 360 degrees, and their weapons are based around a central point, meaning the three guns can effectively have their targeting linked and handled as if they're one single gun. Given the broadside is one of their blindspots it would seem they prefer to fight on diagonals, which with the corvette speed and size would tie up processing power on other ships providing tiny but potentially battle winning collective advantages.

By contrast every other corvette follows the broadside doctrine, making themselves easy targets and limiting their firing arcs to a single gun on the direct attack or retreat during which arthropoid corvrttes can fire all three.
>>
>>174051883

Don't get me wrong, it was fun enough, but it had a retarded uninspired story that didn't really make any sense and gameplay that was simplified in the wrong ways but more complex in equally wrong ways.

Homeworld 2 certainly was easier in multiplayer and had some nice assymetric gameplay, but it's singleplayer will always be deeply flawed/less interesting compared to HW1 and Cataclysm.

2 was certainly not quite to the level of 1 but it was still a fine game. If 1 was a 10/10, then 2 was a 9/10.

Original Homeworld 1 didn't have the self-adjusting difficulty bullshit meaning you could either totally screw yourself OR totally make yourself OP over the course of a campaign and the AI fleets would still be roughly the same.

2 and Remastered (1 and 2) had various versions of the self-adjusting AI that punishes you for having a large fleet built up over the course of the game, which is totally against the entire narrative/story of the first.

It's really impressive for when you are at its scale but most of the time, those corvettes are a pixel on your screen. With the rate that they die, your fleet will look like a blinding ball of light before they get vapourize. I agree that larger ships should be more satisfying though.
>>
>>174052158
Yes and its the reason why H1 is superior.

Self adjusting AI like in a H2 is absolute cheat and reason that entire game was ruined.
>>
>>174052102
They don't attack whatever's closest, different weapons have different esoteric targeting priorities which go from "Has most shields / armour" and "Has most HP" and they all synch up in a really stupid manner.

To tell what the hell is happening you have UI.

>>174052102
Stellairs need absolute overhaul of tactics and fleet in battle management.

Especially missiles ships that fly right down the throat of the enemy rather than to take advantage of their superior range.
>>
>>174052257
H2 was really easy even with the self adjusting difficulty. It actually felt like it had an appropriate rise over the game while H1 was fucking climbing mt everest in the first couple before boarding a first class airline to take you home. Pretty much the only way to challenge yourself in H1 is to never capture another ship ever.
>>
>>174043629

>2 was certainly not quite to the level of 1 but it was still a fine game. If 1 was a 10/10, then 2 was a 9/10.

1 Might not have been the most original game of all time but 2 was just a cash cow pushed out with little thought put into the story.
The game itself was fun, the story was just pitiful and most of the game was just the first game rehashed with somewhat worse mechanics.

I agree totally that Homeworld 2 is by no means a bad game, but it's essentially the first game copied and simplified. Multiplayer community was pretty damn active for 2 so It certainly did some things right.

>>174052257

The entire fucking story of Homeworld 1 is you slowly building up this fleet from the few survivors of your people, a big part of this is salvaging enemy ships, harvesting everything you can and building with limited resources and people.

So then when a game mechanic encourages you to scrap half your fleet at the end of every mission to rebuild it next mission, that's just a fucking terrible game mechanic.

It wasn't that noticeable for me in HW1 Remastered but still a shitty decision.

I have literally never played a space strategy where ground combat needs to be more indepth than sending in the troops.

It's useless micromanagement bullshit in a space game to dabble with that crap.

I'd rather see a DLC that overhauls fleet management and space combat in general by adding new ships/modules and an actual U to manage the inventory of ships in your empire. I'd also love to see the possibility of giving some fleets to the AI to control so I don't have to manually patrol shit with my tiny corvette/destroyer fleets when the enemy sends two corvettes to blockade some pisswater planet in the star cluster of bumfuck.

Some kind of system to tweak the formations and roles of ships in the fleets would be nice as well and more extensive AAR reports and ways to see how a specific ship type fared in battle and also a fucking log to see those AARs after they disappear from the notifications.

Somekind of basic comparison tool and ship database that updates itself everytime you see a new ship anywhere on the map so you can actually make a decent assessment of what ships your enemy has and you can compare your own ships with theirs.

I would add more army types that have different strengths and weaknesses against each other as well as on different planet types.

Add army templates and make army management better.

Make large groups of transport ships able to actually deal with a single corvette.

Change bombardment mechanics so armies are actually relevant

Keep the actual ground combat completely automated like it is now, you click land and then they fight until they win, die or you click retreat

So what's the difference between Hyperlanes & Warp travel? Hyperlanes obviously go along the set lines between stars like point A to point B. Does Warp ignore those lines all together? Could you for example travel between point A to point C with Warp drives? If that's the case than Warp drives are seemingly better?
Sorry for seemingly dumb question, but I've never played with Warp drives. Only Hyperlanes & Wormholes. I had to steal some guys screenshot for reference as well.
>>
>>174058123
Warp is like a mix of hyperlane and wormhole
You don't have to follow lanes and can teleport anywhere within a radius, but you don't don't have to build wormhole generators. Obviously the radius is much smaller than a wormhole station and the travel time from system to system takes a loooot longer than Hyperlane.
>>
>>174058290
warp is pretty much the same speed as hyperlane now because people complained about the speed
>>
>>174058123

A ship with a warp engine has a circle and it can warp anywhere within that circle. The circle follows the shit as it moves around. It has a very long cooldown, however.

Hyperlanes are quick to cooldown, but you can't "go through mountains" so to say. With Warp, you can go through someone's borders if they're small enough, or through empty space, because Hypers get cucked by chokepoints.

To answer your picture. a warp could jump from A to B or C, from C to B and back to A. Hypers cannot.

Wormholes a best, anyway

I have a big ass empire and my research is lagging behind due to the huge population, so I need something to increase it with but I can't really work with my current planets since my cores are mostly mineral and energy producing planets.

They are bullshit, but actually easier compared to previous versions. Their fleet numbers were cut down and spread out.

Way to do it is to destroy the anchors and then the portal. Sacrifice your forces to do it. Try and lure them away, or get some allies and attack together. Once the portal is gone, they are neutered.
