Battleships are actually the worst chassis in the game by far and you're better off not using them.
The only exception is if you already have like 600k fleet power and you fire so many rounds that even though missing 80% of them you still one-shot the enemy fleet.

>>173990121
I find topic of preflood archeology interesting.
Mainstream ignore everything that happen before or outside main narrative.
>>
>>173990029
Battleships are superior in the fact that you can just slap an XL mount along with a few L mounts, then the rest M/S.
The larger the weapon, the worse the tracking on it, henceforth why a couple of battlecruisers with nothing but small/medium mounts will devastate corvettes.
>>
>>173990029
Spam more corvettes then.
>>
>>173990253
What is the best way to deal with Battleships? I made a fleet specifically designed to defeat the battleships the enemy had and they still wrecked my shit. My corvettes were numerous and designed to take down the shields with neutron torps, destroyers take down any enemy torps/missiles, cruisers and battleships pop the enemy battleships with whatever weapon suits their defences the best. I figured I might have 2x or even 3x fewer battleships and still win, but the fucking battleships decimate the corvettes at ease and still damage my battleships without any problems.

Why is it so fucking difficult to make a balanced game where every ship type has a fucking point?

What the fuck is the point of corvettes if you can have a huge battleship fleet that shit on anything less than an equal amount of battleships that are designed to counter those battleships?

If you just spam one type of battleship you will win everything vs the AI,

>Why is it so fucking difficult to make a balanced game where every ship type has a fucking point?

Maybe because no one has any idea what space combat might look like? If anything it might be cute to copy 17th century ship of the line, cross the t style naval warfare. It could be hyper speed drivebys with quantum computers calculating targeting systems.
Now that I'm thinking about it, why would a space faring nation even need crew members on their battle fleets? It is also a question of whether armor will catch up to fire power, modern combat consists of tactical, long range, and stealth while combat a hundred years ago consisted of men stand around looks tough. Totally depends on the killing power of weapons.

My corvettes were the only ones with the energy torps. Destroyers had kinetic weapons and everything bigger than that had lasers except for X weapons which were kinetic.

enemy fleet was something like 20 corvettes, 20 destroyers, 20 cruisers and 20 battleships.

Did all of the destroyers have PD? because that's a potential over-investment. Only need around 20 PD boats at most for a fleet that small.
Lasers aren't too good. Plasma is much better if you can get it.

And the issue there I don't think is so much that the enemy had slightly more battleships than you. It's that they have an extra 18k or something worth of minerals in both defense and at overpowering your heavy ranged.
Less destroyers, and battleships and more cruisers and a bit more corvettes probably would've done better.

What mods should I get for Stellaris? I've already downloaded the mod for white humans, anything else needed?

Just ragequit my fanatical purifiers run, due partially to autism but mostly due to Paradox incompetence. I invaded a pre-FTL species on a world that wasn't super-habitable - maybe 50% - to me and migrated a pop there to start filling it out while I exterminated the native life. However, the event that causes residents of a planet to modify their own genes and turn into a different species fired, so my Xenophobic faction was pissed that I "genetically modified my own species" even though I did no such thing. I thought, okay, I'll just purge these dumb motherfuckers for modifying themselves, but the game considered them part of the founding species even though they had their own seperate tab in the species menu, so I wasn't allowed to purge them.

The rest of the game I would have been forced to deal with an impure planet with no ability to get rid of these bastards and that just really rustled me.

You know what would have been fun for Hiveminds? Giving them something totally different from the normal Traditions mechanic. Flavor wise, it really makes no sense.

Replacing the normal seven tradition trees with two big, (generally) exclusive hivemind trees would have been much better.

>Ego
For playing tall; the Hivemind gets more efficient at controlling its drones, and eventually becomes a gestalt consciousness above its drones, rather than being formed from them. It becomes an "I", rather than a "We". Bonuses to core worlds, naval capacity, influence, etc and so forth.

>Id
For playing wide; the Hivemind becomes slowly able to create sub-minds within its greater whole, reducing the strain on the lead mind. Bonuses to worlds under sectors, reduced penalties to science and so forth, border range, etc.
>>
>>173995572
Likewise, the tradition system for non-hivemind species is disappointingly shallow.

They don't feel like "traditions" if you'll eventually get them all, sometimes with semi-exclusive ones like Diplomacy and Domination.

Rather, each tree should be expanded to at least three times its current size, with 2-3 Ascendency perks per tree. The cost of traditions increases exponentially for the number of tradition fields you're invested in past 3. Additionally, each tree should have some form of repeating bonus similar to technology, to increase some end-tree effect and act as a unity sink.

Great flood happen worldwide when something struck northern cap and melt ice.

I built a habitat on the distant edge of the empire and just put everyone from the homeworld on it, I had plenty of other loyal, pure citizens to pick up the gaps, the synths could stay.

I turned off their migration rights after that, they're off somewhere in a sector, toiling away in peace at the edge of the galaxy. Didn't feel right to purge, but I can't let such a blight ruin the image of genetic modification.

the ethics types in stellaris are kind of wooden and silly anyway, let's face it

you can have an authoratarian society which has a strict but generous level of freedom, you can have individualist societies that justify slavery by claiming some men are born to be free and others are not

does xenophobia mean conservative diplomacy, (not getting involved in foreign affairs too much) or genuine dislike of foreigners? Can't someone be OK with living amongst ayys but want their star nation to not involve itself in outside affairs?

Seems as though one can learn things about magic. There are stories where magic is tamed by science, they're just not popular, because humans are programmed to prefer comforting lies to harsh truths.

Which is why spiritualism is an option. There's nothing science can do to give your life meaning.

That's why psychics only work for spiritualist. In a materialist faction, if some cunt starts ignoring the laws of physics, all the butthurt euphorics would freak out and stone him to death for contradicting their reli...empirical truth.

In a spiritualist society, the psychic becomes a holy person who performs miracles for the faithful, and probably has a shit-ton of kids because if women love rockstars, they'll REALLY love a rockstar who can move things with his mind and absolve them of their sins in one go.

And no one is going to tell a saint to bag up.

Real consequences that would have interesting RP flavor and interactions with other game mechanics, like factions.

This happened in Babylon 5. Psychics awoke, people flipped, the Psi Corps was formed to forcefully take everyone who showed any psychic power and either nerve stapled them or put them to work in the corps. The Corps eventually used its abilities to form a shadow government and they're the ones actually in control of EarthGov.

They aped every other good idea they had from science fiction, why not make psionics and factions actually interact and make fucking sense? As is, it's just a pointless set of benefits with barely any mechanical interaction with the deeper aspects of the game.

No you dumbass.

ACTUAL hiveminds in nature are not a single shared consciousness nor are they a 'big brain' that uses each part as 'an appendage'. They are individuals that use pheromones and evolved social structures to basically act as one organism/hive, even though there is no magical psychic connection between them.

>spendthrift
-15% energy credits, counters Thrifty, -1 point

-15% minerals, counters industrious, -1 point

>thick skulled

-15% engineering research, counters nat. engis, -1 point

>subatomic brains
-15% physics, counters nat. phys. -1 point

>powerless
-40% army damage, -10% minerals, counters strong and very strong, -2 points

>short-lived

Every kilowatt hour is partially dirty, because of the energy used to make it. It takes years before the thing pays off the cost to build it, and by then they've succumbed to material wear and stop being cost-effective.

This is a incredibly simple concept. If you use dirty energy to make something, that thing is not clean energy. Is releasing stored energy from a coal plant in a tesla battery clean energy?

Yes you are, because it still has to be maintained, at an increasing yearly rate. And that maintenance consumes oil energy.

>>174017121
>no actually it's instantly clean since the energy is not coming from oil at all

It took energy to make it. The windmill has an energy debt for its first few years of operation. It's dirty until at least then, and we're having a hard time keeping them operating past ten years or so without total replacement and costly maintenance, which all uses oil energy.

>you have a very outdated view of wind efficiency, this aint 1960 anymore reagan

The problem with this theory is that the story concerns the Jews, a Semitic people living in the Levant.

Meanwhile, Central Asia at that time was inhabited by Indo-European horse nomads, though it would later be invaded by East Asian horse nomads who live there currently.

To state it plainly, the original Jews were most closely related to the Canaanites, and from there to other 'Arabic' peoples living close by. Arabic peoples are in the same racial group as, but are fairly distant within it, from all Indo-European peoples.

Why then, would the Jews' story of their ancestors involve the experiences of a completely unrelated people living far away?

Who made that claim? Let me examine it. I'm betting they're being subversive in their wording. 40% of what? Total energy use or total electricity use? Because those two things are completely different subjects. Is it total municipal use, or does it include industry? etc etc. These are questions you should have asked too.

There is no evidence for this claim. We can do a lot of things, but we've no evidence we can save ourselves from this hole we've dug.

The first one gives your scientist the paranoid trait, which gives him a special option when you complete the second one. The special option gives your scientist the "Psionics Expertise" trait which greatly increases the chances of discovering psionics tech.

The commands are:

add_anomaly WAT_PLANET_CAT

Do them in that order. I think they have to be put on a black hole and a planet respectively.

If you want a full argument then the reason oil burned out the ass for energy has less to do with energy and more to do with literally everything worth making requires oil in its production. http://www.world-nuclear.org/information-library/nuclear-fuel-cycle/nuclear-wastes/radioactive-waste-management.aspx
>Each year, nuclear power generation facilities worldwide produce about 154,000 m3 of Low-level waste and Intermediate-level waste, and about 34,000 m3 of High level waste (including used fuel designated as waste)1.In the OECD countries, some 300 million tonnes of toxic wastes are produced each year, but conditioned radioactive wastes amount to only 81,000 m3 per year.

That's at 10% of the world's current electrical demand. The remaining 90% would add 1,386,000 m3 per year LLW/ILW, 306,000 m3 HLW. Two billion seven hundred million tons of toxic waste produced each year, but conditioned waste would only be 729,000 m3 per year.

So yeah. It's just 1.6 supertankers of radioactive waste that stays fresh for 28 billion years, per year.

I'm sure we'll be fine with that plan. Just dandy. Peachy, even.

>literal scaremongering because OOHHH NUCLEAR WASTE SCARY
Uh, you're scaremongering about oil. Just thought you should notice that.

Both are bad. Not denying that. But nuclear is bad for a hell of a lot longer, can we agree on that?

You know what would be best for the planet? If we used less. If we got off this childish notion that technology is our dad and is always going to take care of us no matter how lazy we get.

But i've really given up hope for humanity being capable of that. The life of do-as-you-please is just too appealing.

>>
>>174021991
>Not at this point. What makes you assume it can? It's a steam engine, it's a pretty mature technology.
You can always make the fuel use more efficient, use cleaner/cheaper (LFTR, for example), and so on and so forth. Just because the core of something is "making water hot", doesn't mean it can't be improved.

>Uh, you're scaremongering about oil. Just thought you should notice that.
No, it's scaremongering when you imply that nuclear waste is worse because it sticks around for a long time. Guess what? It's also much easier to deal with, and Earth is BIG.
I don't think you understand quite how big it is.
Running out of space to keep the stuff will not be an issue for quite a while; We'll run out of conventional nuclear fuel long before we run out of places to hide it.

>You know what would be best for the planet? If we used less. If we got off this childish notion that technology is our dad and is always going to take care of us no matter how lazy we get.
I disagree for two reasons. One is your phrase "best for the planet", which should never be said first. The first thought in your mind should always be "what's best for humanity", and as of now, what's best for the planet generally tends to align with the former.
Secondly, it's not the amount we use, but what we use it for. Humanity has untold physical wealth and resources right now, but a huge portion of it is put towards consumerism and trite enjoyments. We don't need to use less, we just need to use it more efficiently.

Here's a list of modifiers though not all of them are applicable to species traits

For example, Max Rivalries I don't think works on a species and even if it did it'd be completely busted.

However, you can add stuff like that to Leaders. So you can have an Admiral with +x% Energy Weapon Damage, for example.

Fusion is the future lad
We're damn close to it, every prototype is getting closer and closer to being out of the red for energy
Once we get a positive energy reactor, we're golden, no matter how inefficient the thing is, as it's fuel is literally deuterium and helium3
You can get fucktons of deuterium out of sea water, and helium3 you can scrape of the moon's surface by the ton

and even if fusion fails to hit that point in a reasonable amount of time, Solar is the second best method of energy generation, as they are extremely powerful when put in space
Go read up on the details of a Dyson Swarm is, we have the technology to build one of those fuckers right now, just not the orbital industry

The amount they occupy is insignificant compared to the amount of space available on the surface of the planet, and it only seem big compared to the size of a single Coal, oil or Nuclear power plant. You're also not taking into consideration the amount of space that tar sands and nuclear waste repository occupy, not to mention the environmental and health hazards they are.

The NSC (New Ships and Classes) mod for more ships than just Battleships as top ship (and proper carrier ships as well).
Also using ship modules from TFW's Bunch of Parts mod as well since that gives more weapons and such (such as lasers that don't suffer from -% shield or even deals extra to shield). It also features one of the greatest ideas ever concieved for Materialists: Fighters and Bombers, with armour (full -3 or -4 damage deductions, so PD will either do 0-2 damage on them thus requiring Flak to be able to really deal with them. Who would've thought such a thing on those things would make them so powerful?

On a side note, either NSC and TFW's BOP adds tech that reduces the cost of Cede Planet, which can result in silly war costs like this. Probably not a good idea to research them if you don't want to win a war against a FE just simply by successfully invading their capital, which is how I won the war against the FE holding The Core without even touching their fleet
>>
>>174028553

Alright, sounds good m8y. I'll figure out how to remove the war reduction shit, if it's really tech-locked then all I'll have to do is disable the tech
>>

>>
>>174028553
Sounds OP as fuck. Does the AI handle it well?
>>
>>174028845

The AI likes to create Frigates that are small ships with several PD slots but can only use that and small weapons , they suck if no PD on

the other ship classes are fine and the most remarkable part imo is that some of them allow multiple torpedo slots so you don't have to depend 100% on corvettes for that

The best part about NSC by itself is that thought that doesn't give you the Psionic/Drone (Materialist) fighter/bombers, but it does give you a third new type of fighter: 'PD' Fighters, whose purpose is to circle around the ship that launched them to act as a PD barrier.
How useful that is is hard to say though, carriers and light carriers can't carry much and can be easily slotted up full of PD anyway, though it could work on niche battleship and above builds that allow you at least one hangar on one of the loadouts. It sure looks nice how the fighters fly around the ship though.

Either the Additional Traits mod or Extended Traits mod has a negative trait that is actually a lot more deadlier than it looks - Hunter-Gatherer (+2 points). -20% food production hurts you incredibly hard in the beginning not only because you end up making barely enough food to feed 1 1/2 people on a Hydrophonic Farm I, you make a small net loss on the basic variations.
This was from the perspective of a Hive Mind player with that negative trait, so there wasn't a way to boost production through happiness - you just end up with planets where more than half of the planet are farms just to sustain your people (drones).
