Nah, children today are interested in e-celebs and mobile games.
Kids that are above the age of 5 are more interested in gritty realistic dark stuff, and only get interested in less serious stuff if their internet/IRL friends tell them it's cool to like them, and even then, they try to find the more serious and dark side to it.

It only makes sense that they'd eventually embrace that side of the fanbase and allow fans to fight alongside the blue blur. Probably - but you have to look at things from the perspective of a company who's heard enough from its fans. It's arguably a better option than creating an actual character that'll just be poorly written like Silver and then thrown to the side from every game onwards. The story will most definitely involve Sonic anyways. In the case of God Eater, the protagonist is a CaC, but there's other characters the story revolves around. If executed well it won't be a problem, but the idea isn't inherently bad.

i think we're getting way too mad over the potential idea of a character creator. if it's there, we already know it won't make up more than half the game. there's literally a whole game to judge (we already have Modern and Classic Sonic gameplay) and having a CaC instead of another sidefuck wouldn't hurt a thing.

There's plenty of very creative individuals but I don't think the reasoning behind OCs is entirely a cry for attention. I feel like you're being a little too extreme - we were all like 10 once, and at that point in time, the concept of enjoying ourselves through attempted creative expression and subpar self inserts was a very real thing.
