It doesn't do much more damage, I think. It scales roughly by your Invocation level, so you'll only be doing 7-12 more damage at max Invo compared to 20 and 15.

I was berserked actually, hence the 570 HP. I only had a couple harmless enemies remaining on the floor and figured I'd blow a useless potion to clean them up. I didn't want to worry about dying due to some bad rolls.

I don't doubt it was my fault though. Here's the dump if you want to laugh at my poor decision making.

it's at least worth playing for the novelty and a weird death. I've done that a double handful of times and had reasonable fun in the doing. If/when I ever want to try and actually progress instead of fumbling around and dying horribly, I'll join their irc chat for protips and termcast spectators. That way I can take longer and invest more of my life into a still similarly silly death.

But yeah I recommend at least playing for, say, 20 minutes for the sake of doing it. Reading over the death dump is pretty entertaining. A lot of weird ass randomization going on under the hood gets logged in your chardump after you die.
>>
>>173814432
I try to swap it asap because its usually more harm than good and it doesnt give you a lot of 'piety' or whatever so its really not worth it
It can be really useful against some early on hard monsters like d:1 gnoll or adder and similar, all depending on your race

It at the moment picks it mostly from alignment which still exists without alignments to my knowledge. I scrapped the virtue-acting since it is hard to make it work with good sense ( since lot of the value-changes are rather arbitrary )

Rings and weapons can act passively ( rings with higher chance ).
Weapons act on melee attacks, too.

I probably will look more into it later. They are supposed to be rare things, anyway, although I think you can set them on fixed artifacts.

>remove features from the game for being orientalist

Shitlord DCSS devs aren't going to fool me. The game is inherently racist and fascist, and their token attempts to pretend that they hold progressive values are pretty offensive. Brogue aligns much better with progressive values. All monsters are female and there are no player races. That's the kind of representation that roguelikes should strive for.

references are fine, as long as they arent presented as "foreign"

Yet another quality 'addition' to one of the dullest roguelikes in the history of roguelikes. Each commit by the Devil's Team and their sycophants from the Tavern as they remove assorted features has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the removal of content, the game's only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of interesting tactical situations, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Campbell vetoed the idea of Linley developing the game; he made sure the game would never be mistaken for a real roguelike that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously unprofitable cross-promotion for Tolkien books. DCSS might be anti-fun (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Nethack roguelike in its refusal of spoilers, Dwarves, and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the older versions were good though
"No!"
The gameplay is dreadful; the game was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time a developer removed a feature, the dev wrote instead that the feature "was bloat."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Campbell's mind is so governed by optimal play and efficiency that he has no other style of developing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of DCSS by the same Edmund McMillen. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing DCSS at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to play The Binding of Isaac." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play DCSS you are, in fact, trained to play The Binding of Isaac.

Easy
Start as a Fighter with Axes, tab anything and everything that isn't Orc Priests at the beginning or the usual gnoll with halberd/etc
Abuse Flight movement bonus by always casting it before fighting something dangerous like Ogres/Hill Giants/Orc Warriors etc so you can evoke feet and retreat
Worship Gozag and jew good gear from him
Later trade him for Mak, just be sure you can handle his jew wrath, by that I mean have scrolls of tele/blink/heals. I like saving Elf1-3 besides the boss chamber so I can rack up some easy piety as dyel elves can't be enraged
Learn Tornado and destroy everything thanks to the +3 Air aptitude that lets you even cast in fullplate eventually
The low HP isn't really an issue besides the very beginning of the game and even then only against Orc Priests because le balanced smite
I can go more in depth as to what to do first etc if you want
>>
>>173839140

Frankly I do the same for most meleee that isn't Octopode/Felid
Start as Fighter with axes because cleaving and otab go hand in hand
Tengus have +1 Axe aptitude so the leveling will be pretty fast, I usually level Axes to about 8-10 or so before then raising Fighting, Dodging, Armor to ~8 then resuming Axes until ~16 for the war axe min delay. After that keep raising Shields, Armor, Dodging as needed, some stealth is nice too for Gozag daze
Anyways, the beginning isn't really hard, you can tab through most creatures and just have to be wary of stuff that's annoying to about most builds, especially Orc Priest smite due to your frail HP. Tengus gain temporary Flight at level 5, always turn it on before fighting dangerous enemies since it gives you a hefty 20% EV boost AND movement bonus, which means you can just outrun most foes if your health gets low. I prefer to set autofight_stop at 50% instead of the default 30%.
Worship Gozag whenever you find an altar, the daze effect from the gold is amazing, and the shops will often give you good gear, plus potion petition can work as a nice panic button. The first use is free so might as well use it rather than risk dieing when needed.
For Gozag shops I like Armor the best as that covers a lot of slots besides weapon so chances are you'll find some goodies every now and then. Weapon is secondary, and only if you really need a good axe, the default war axe you start out with is more than enough for most of the game assuming you dump all enchant and brand scrolls on it, provided you don't find a better axe earlier. Try not using 2h weapons, the loss of a shield is awful for frail race like Tengus.
As far as dungeon progression I like doing D1-10, Lair, D10-15, Orc
After that it depends, Snake is a fucking pain and the most dangerous of Lair branches, so I'd save that for last. Shoal is pretty easy for Tengu with decent AC/EV, Spider is mostly easy too, so is Swamp too besides the ending.
>>
>>173841217
Perfect, thank you
>>
>>173827959

It's not being elitist. All you whine about are "WANT WANT WANT" and offer nothing to the table then you wonder why you aren't getting any favorable responses. It doesn't even have to be money. What do YOU have? Since if you have nothing and still whine like a babby then wait and stop shitting up the thread.
>>
>>173839474
>>173841487
Of course even the easier branches can have some dangerous enemies but I assume you've done the game before so you know how to take them on, if not then ask. Anyways remember +Inv trivializes literally all lair branches but snake.
After you get your first rune I like to do Vault 1-4. Here you can also try changing from Gozag to Mak, but for that be sure you can survive Gozag's wrath.
Gozag will continuously berserk and haste enemies on sight for a long time, and enemy berserk is a fucking pain on Crawl. What you need is decent AC/EV/heals but most of all teleportation since you can't really outrun berserked enemies.
Which is why as soon as I switch to Mak I do Elf 1-3 besides the boss, only Deep Elf Blademasters can berserk but they literally only spawn either at the Weapon Hall or the boss chamber. Leaving Elf should give you about *** piety.
After Vault 1-4 you can do the remaining Lair branch, then Depths.
As for armor choices, well it all depends on what you find really. Even a fullplate on a Tengu works just fine, it's more about how good the enchantments are.
Just be careful at especially Lair when your defenses might not yet be too good depending on what Gozag's shops offer. Especially around Spiny Frogs and heavy hitters like Komodo Dragons, Death Yaks, Hydras (Switch to a mace weapon to fight them), but these you can all outrun besides the damn frogs.
For spells be on the lookout for the usual melee centric ones, Regeneration, Repel Missiles.
Later you'll want Tornado and Deflect Missiles. Tornado is basically a "I win" button and when used with Mak you'll gain all life back but getting the required skill to cast as a melee can take a lot of time even with +3 Apt.
And damn, I forgot about level up points, I like to spend the first 2-3 on STR, then 2-3 DEX and rest on INT.
Also, remember to turn Flight off against Tittans and Spprigan Air Elementalists, so usually Depths and Vault 5.

Mauler's kind of fun (especially chain-splatter), but I feel like it tends to stagnate after the very early game because of the weapon restrictions. Is there some semi-reliable way to get a decent heavy weapon?

incorrect, cleave is only on when you're playing like a monkey and surrounded by enemies
riposte on the other hand is like an invisible attack speed bonus that depends on your EV, 50% of all misses unless it was changed, which applies brands, offhand attacks, and slaying.

To the Infra Arcana on Windows guys:

I *almost* got it working, but there are apparently some compilation problems specific to MinGW. Finding a solution is throwing me for a loop, so I'll probably use a different compiler and try again.

Anyway, what I did to get 80% of the way there was:
1) Install CMake and CodeBlocks-mingw.
2) Use CMake in the way the GitHub page says to.
3) When I got an error about libintl-8.dll missing, I put the MinGW folder (something like C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks\MinGW; I'm on my Linux comp now, so I can't remember if that's accurate) into my PATH.
4) To put it the folder into my path, I just followed:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000549.htm
5) After that, configuring and generating on CMake was straightforward and error-free. If I wasn't clear before, I just used the defaults, and everything seemed to work.
6) Once the Makefile was generated, I opened it up in Code::blocks, and tried to compile it like the GitHub page said to.
7) I had to point Code::blocks to the right folder where MinGW was, too. That was in Settings->Compilers->Toolchainsomethingsomething (again, not on my Windows machine atm).
8) And, again, tried to compile ia.
9) ...but I ran into a weird "to_string is not a member of std" bug, which is apparently a problem with MinGW.
10) I *tried* fixing it by downloading MinGW-w64 and replacing the program files as seen in step 7, but that didn't seem to work. MinGW-w64 has a bunch of config options and methods of installation, so it'd be a pain in the pass to figure out the right one to not get that error...

So yeah, that's where I'm at.

And to think, this was so goddamn simple to compile on Linux...
>>
>>173852792
>And to think, this was so goddamn simple to compile on Linux...

Yeah, the Linux instructions were all you needed to do.

You just need to make sure you have a full rl_utils folder -- running "git submodule init" and "git submodule update" will get it. I mean, the Github says to do it, but it should probably be an "IMPORTANT: DO THIS" rather than a "NOTE:".

So I was looking into which monsters only have the shoot acid effect, breed explosively and drop loot, since by being a yeek you get a racial immunity to acid which should ( if I didn't get that wrong) just ignore all acid damage, which would mean I wouldn't get hurt.
Turns out only the black ooze meets all the criteria, while the spawn of ubbo gives a ton of XP, is a higher level (40, which would make my rune sword a lot beefier than it is right now) and is a guaranteed (or nearly guaranteed) spawn down at ubbo's level.

Can't think of any race that gets an immunity except for balrogs getting fire (or jellies but that's really just the same isn't it) way too late and by the time you can do that you're going to be killing great hell wyrms anyway.

Honestly the best way to farm is still dragonhunting in the mountains, but when you have combos that are kinda weak it's probably not the best idea to go and try to kill ancient durrgins. Spawns of ubbo oscillate between 150/200 XP a pop, which means you need to kill 100 just to get a level. For loot the safest bet is still to keep oozes on the bottom of the icky caves and farm that single good item.

Provided you can heal yourself and have a wand of teleother, aggravation can be quite useful when farming dragons. I can see it ruining my life in any other case though.

That looks fine, if you're up against a bunch of death oozes or an azure jelly maybe swap over for more rC or rN depending, those can be really nasty without appropriate resistances, but 270 is a lot of hitpoints so you should be fine.

Acid dragons are immune to their own breath.

Possibly various brands and slays, always aggravation and AFC after a certain level.
Considering how bad aggravation is, the rune sword can become a 9d9 +30+30 sword good sword only if you manage to survive it. It's a love-hate relationship.

Hell hounds of Julian are level 83 but should be level 38: They are the best possible mobs you can kill, except for unmakers (since they breed).
A yeek rune sword user can level it up relatively quickly if he simply reaches level 20 and then goes tab-happy in the icky caves.
Sadly the aggravation got the best of me in the mountains when I got sandwiched between a crystal drake and a 'lisk and I couldn't Tele away.
>>
>>173867523
Yeah, you can't ?Mundanity runeswords when the forced runesword-option is enabled. I thought that ridding of them would be not in the spirit of the option.

You know, technically unmakers are farmable in arena:80. You'd have to kill the babble without a needle though. Or dual-wield that and the needle. That sounds like a dual-wielding nightmare.

Infra Arcana on Windows people:

I GOT A (potentially non-optimal) VERSION OF IT WORKING!!!!!

I looked more closely into the errors I was getting, and realized that I actually needed to specify the MinGW-w64 execs in CMake itself. That, in turn, led me to realize I had to use the i686 versions instead of the x86_64 versions. But once I got all that shit figured out, I could actually build the damn thing in Code::blocks with no errors.

Only problem was running the program. At the moment, I can only get it running by pressing "Run" in Code::blocks, instead of just double-clicking on ia.exe in any folder. So, that's kind of an issue...

But hey, at least it's working.

I'm going to type up a small pastebin of all the steps I did, in their right and accurate form. Sharing the executable probably won't be a good idea, since it only seems to work with Code::blocks.

Amulet of the Four Winds is god-tier to at least have in your inventory. You can swap to it when necessary.

There are very few sources of Clarity in the game, and you should always be thankful to find something with it (although it's overkill with both it and MR+++). In any case, it's an easy buy at 358 gold.

Amulet of Regen isn't all that necessary, especially if you don't care about speed. It might help you stay alive when you get re-ambushed after escaping upstairs (Spider is known for this: you might find yourself on your last legs in Spider:4, escape up to Spider:3, try to rest, and then a bunch of new spiders will try to fuck with you). *But*, it's not absolutely necessary.

Oh, also: Last I heard acquirement scans everything you found, and grants a greater chance to gift something not included in all that shit. So if you didn't find a cloak then you have a better chance of getting one, but wearing or not wearing a cloak makes no difference. Same works for e.g. demon blades or other uncommon weapon types, so weapon acquire can give you some good shit early on.
>>
>>173895978
whether the slot is filled or not doesn't matter
there is some weighting based on whether you've SEEN an item (so you're more likely to get a +0 hat if you haven't found any hats yet), but it doesn't care about what you have currently equipped
>>
>>173895914
I compiled it as a release.

Looking more closely at the IA github, I think the dev foresaw that it'd only be playable within whatever environment it was built in, since he wrote:

>"Build by clicking on the yellow cogwheel, then run the game by clicking on the green arrow."

If it could be played some other way, I assume he would have listed it.
>>
>>173891580
don't listen to his horrible advice, spellcasting affects spellpower and failure chance at about 1/4th the rate as training the spell's main school. if you want to cast firestorm for instance it's more efficient to train 22 spc 22 conj/fire than to train 10 spc 27 conj/fire

Note that acquiring armour as a naga/centaur always gives a barding if you havent seen one, pretty sure thats the only 100% case left after the rod removal
>>
>>173895978
Doesnt matter, it checks all items you saw/found so it makes a chance off of that
Theres some other tweaks like when asking for a weapon or armor piece, as if you have a 15 armor skill but 0 dodging, youre in a higher favour to get a high ec rating armor while if you have both at 15, theres a slight edge for a low ec rating armor to be gifted, like a robe or some <7 ec rating dragon armor, thats if i remember the formula correctly
Also the weapon rolls for gifting are really really REALLY JUST
So lets say you saw, idk, 22 rings and 3 necklaces, if you ask for jewellery, youll have a higher chance of getting a necklace of some kind you havent saw, harm or artifact or any other.. You get the point
>>
>>173896335
10 to 22 spellcasting takes more xp than 1/4 of 22 to 27 though
>>
>>173896413
it's 50% chance to get barding ain't it?
and rod was only an 80% chance or something too

the only 100% was acq book under trog always giving manuals (because trog hates all other books), but I think that may have been removed too

>>
>>173896413

Also never forget the manual gifting speculations, that was pretty neat to think of it like that honestly

>>173896552
>the only 100% was acq book under trog always giving manuals (because trog hates all other books), but I think that may have been removed too
That was never in, was it? Maybe in one versions of git but it was removed shortly because i cant remember it working
>>
>>173896335
what you actually should do is just look at the relative xp costs of the spell schools

it's dual-school so it's most efficient to level whichever is cheapest of fire, conj, or [spellcasting cost * 2] at any one moment
(if it was single school it'd be x4 and if it was tri-school it'd be *4/3)
>>
>>173896631
the better you are at the game the more corners you can cut and train more spellcasting which allows you to do all sorts of silly stuff and learn spells that otherwise you wouldn't like summon forest or ignite poison (lmao transmut/fire/poison tri school)

the only reason you think they aren't good is because you don't train spellcasting
>>

Magma bolt I can understand, but cloud spells are game over man, game over. Iron shot and freezing cloud are enough to 3 rune.
>>
>>173897019
Freezing cloud DESTROYS vaults and depths, cant talk about the other 2
>>
>>173897209
You can 3 rune with any bolt spell/poison arrow though
>>
>>173896769
obviously we're talking about xp efficiency, it goes without saying
i feel like spellcasting is worth focusing on even at the expense of some failure rate though, it makes your character more futureproof, like what if you want to cast cblink or necroform after getting your level 9 spell castable and you don't want to do 300 pan or ziggurats for the xp, or stuff like you haven't found regen all game and then you find book of battle in zot and now you can cast it at 0 charms 0 necro just with spellcasting and int. it might be a bad habit tbqh but it just feels better to play the game that way, i even had tengu AE games with 0 conjurations trained just spc and air magic going straight for tornado
>>

Don't just blindly follow rules of thumb for "have this and that level in these skills". Just look at the relative xp cost that's displayed in-game and decide based on that. Especially helpful if you play races with very uneven apts.
>>
>>173897019

>who the fuck uses magma bolt

Why shouldn't you? It's a trischool from the 3 best spellschools, you literally have nothing to lose.
>>
>>173897771
What you lose is all the xp you waste on a third school when you could've just stuck to 2.

Only worth picking up if you actually have other spells from both schools you want to learn. Otherwise just stick to ironshot or to fireball/bolt

chei is a shit hypocrite unflavorful theme-breaking faggot god because he doesn't reduce your attack speed and he's conducive to speedruns
he should halve speed of all actions (double delay), including casting, un/wielding, halve regeneration rate, and whatever else
he should apply -15 int because you're a slow thinker now and -15 dex because you can't move fast enough to get out of the way
+15 str is ok i guess even though you'd have almost entirely slow twitch muscle fibers and no fast twitch fibers, so you wouldn't be powerful or explosive, which is what you really want for damaging melee attacks. instead you're more like a crane or a winch or a trash compactor instead of some kind of shaolin monk with superhuman explosive strength
also if your average aut/turn/action count per floor is too high he puts a stackable permanent un!cancellable slow debuff on you and stops HP/MP regeneration until you slow your ass down
>>
>find ring of wizardry, ring of magical power AND amulet of magic regen early on
>die because I am an idiot
>>
>>173897897

You don't really waste any exp though since as what I've said before, those 3 spellschools are the best at killing everything. You're gimping yourself for only having a mediocre Bolt of Fire as your only reliable AoE. Fireball is shit since most of the time, enemies are positioned in a line and let's not even talk how horrible its damage is.

The more reliable you are at killing everything, the lesser your opportunities to use consumables. The more consumables you have, the greater the number of choices you have for dealing with faults.

Apparently it was only 5 hours.
Anyway rune swords are kinda sucky in the lategame if you don't get any kind of brand. I was hitting for 200/turn and I always had to rely on my 30 sp heal to get through a fight. Maledict looks like a very good class though, it was fun to play, even though the whole "curse your equipment but then remove the curse if it does something bad like fast digestion and slow regen you and re-curse it until it's just cursed" to get the boni was kinda boring.

Yeah, I was supposed to fix it up a bit.

Problem is that how the class works, you end up 'gaming' yourself an easy set of curses.
I haven't actually touched any class in very long time, I really should look into them, though.
>>

>>173907271

>>
>>173907354
Yeah slowed + hasted is displayed the same as unmodified speed (not in pseudo though)
But the point is that area is probably too dangerous for 4 base speed or 14 with haste
there are lots of 20speed summoners
>>

>3 int 5 wis

>650 HP

>>173907323
Considering how the healing spell removed all the curses, I just "buffed" myself before fighting a unique by curing my inventory, without caring about what curses I'd have since I knew I'd be healing and removing everything in three turns.

Having a permacursed item really makes them work. Literally herbal healing with a 5% failrate for 30 sp.
Never actually used the curses except for the nature awareness curse. Also, while it's true that it maps traps, it doesn't give the "dtrap" map status, which is kinda weird.

>>
>>173920523
That kind of thing isn't really what I mean. I've dealt with Erolcha LCS and It Breathes You Die, I'm more talking about weird interactions and shit you would never think of, like dying because you walked over a cockatrice corpse while blind and barefoot.
>>
>>173920332

>>
>>173920729
Howsabout getting your inventory wrecked by dropping all your shit on an altar while you had the poison hands mut, or falling into the instakill lake because you exceeded the weight limit for the ice bridge?
>>
>>173920729
There is one specific floor that is the banshee level.
If you enter without knowing there's a banshee there and without preparing in advance for it, it will instantly kill you.
>>
>>173920729
ADOM's particular implementation of banshees is with little enough foreshadowing and deadly enough that I'd argue it still qualifies, but other than that the only thing I can think of is that enemies can make live sacrifice on altars, too (I always assumed that those kinds of features were player only).
>>
>>173921125
That counts.
>>
>>173921583
>enemies can make live sacrifice on altars
Only on chaotic altars.

>>173920729
>>173920017
So basically:
1. Don't step on chaotic altars.
2. Plug your ears with beeswax on the banshee level.

That's about it.
>>
>>173921894
Enemies can sac on altars that match their alignment, and are also not your alignment. So neutral monsters can sac lawful characters and stuff.
>>
>playing adom
the most foolish blunder
>>
>>173922021
Lawful creatures won't sacrifice you. Neutral creatures may sacrifice you if you're chaotic, but they never really do it.

Regardless, standing on any altar is a bad idea unless you're BUC testing.

>>173922178

>>
>>173922396
I'll have to be satisfied with DCSS, Angband and a dynahack athiest wishless genoless.
>>
>>173922021
Lawful and neutral can only sacrifice cross-aligned things, but chaotics can sacrifice anything.

That's why altars are dangerous for chaotic PCs: You need to stand on a chaotic altar to do all the various altar things, but even though you match the altar's alignment you can still be sacrificed if any chaotic monsters see you.

Stun in PCB. Good? Super good? Garbage?
>>
>>173923405
Stun is excellent if you can maintain it while doing damage.
>>
>>173923405
stun is very good
50% chance to fail any spell, 50% chance to miss melee attacks, i think it slows them as well maybe

if you have a way to apply stun it's worth it to do to anything that isn't immune
>>
>>173923405
Innate stun: Great
Confusing lights: Good
Weapon ego: Bad
>>
>>173923662
I've got an armageddon weapon branded with it, but it doesn't seem to proc much. I'm wondering if dual wielding cuts its chances or it scales to damage done or something.
>>
>>173923741
_confusing lights is so effective I almost feel like I'm cheating by using it.
>>
>>173923935
It depends on the power level, it really ranges widely from the time it starts dropping all the way toward 95+ areas. But definitely mandatory equipment for as far as staves go.
>>
>>173923779
The chance is based on the damage you roll on your damage dice.
IIRC the armageddon stun brand only attempts to stun if (damage rolled) > 1d50
so it's good on high-dice weapons (especially if they are also diceboosted from being Armageddon) but pretty shit on a 1d4 dagger

for maximum memestuns you need to find a something with d10s or better and combine it with some rings of power for the weaponmastery boosts
you're not very likely to get something like that, unfortunately.

if you class doesn't have some innate access to stunning your best option in the lategame is probably just _confusinglights

maybe worth investing in a fight with hermes

also rLight, rNexus, and rDisenchant are definitely the least important resists, though it's still good to have them. Having gear disenchanted matters more in the mid and late farming stages than during the final fights. That said, you're still farming for gear it seems and also as a centipede probably have far fewer backup options if a key piece is significantly disenchanted.
>>
>>173928040
it really doesn't matter
you're more likely to get a manastormer summoned on you than disenchant breather or starburst caster
plus most of the shit that breathes disenchant doesnt resist tele anyways

although maybe the new disenchant angels change that up a little
>>
>>173928279
>that feel when doing slime during the orb run after 14 runes and all your equipment gets rekt but it's ok since it's highly enchanted and you have a cloak of conserv but it's not ok because you're playing an older version and getting artifacts in every slot is too rare but it's ok since the game is about to be over but it's not ok because you have -20 ac and now everything does 50 damage every hit but it's ok since you have 45EV and 0% fail rate haste spell and 2 regen rings so you just shrug it off and ascend
>>
>>173928347
>disenchant breather

it's disenchant by touching that matters, not breathers - too many 60+ uniques disenchant on attack to just go without

light and nexus I agree with, basically superfluous except for very specific level ranges
>>
>>173928040
How the hell do you even endgame as a class with no weapon? Can you at least use devices reasonably well?
>>
>>173929851
centipedes can't really do anything reasonably well

but you can use rings with weaponmastery (usually rings of power, but once in a rare while a combat ring will get it too) to boost the dice on a natural attack.

I was gonna ask about this actually - what's the best way in poschengband to stop my gear getting annihilated by thieves/elemental damage of some sort? It's not a huge deal to me but it's rather frustrating here and there.
>>
>>173932000
Elemental damage checks your resists to see if they have an effect past the damage. For base elements it's something like a check if 1d66 beats resPercent, so 3 pips makes you immune to destruction.

For the high resists I forget the magic number, but it's always 3 pips for destruction immunity in that resist.
>>
>>173932230

That's fantastic to know - thank you ever so much.

Also, I was wondering, are special weapons necessarily unique, premade artefacts? I was hoping to find something along the line of the standard randarts as they sort of excite me, especially with random names and all that. I spent hundreds of hours in Elona stockpiling obscene amounts of useless randarts, but I've not really had much luck in pcb, and it kinda feels somehow less special if it's just a "leather helm of knowledge" or somesuch.
>>

Special means artefact. Standart or randart are both possible, but randart's much rarer unless you toggle on the randart or half_randart birth options.

also, in actually looking at this death:

Died to goddamn overconfidence. Wow.

He opens a runed door, which has a deep elf death mage, tentacled monstrosity, and vampire knight. He probably should've realized the death mage would be a lot of trouble, but doesn't learn from his initial encounter where he takes big damage quickly and has to blink away. Heals up on an upper level, gets some quick confidence-building kills, goes back for more -- he even kills the vampire knight with Dispel Undead -- but with no way to deal more damage to the DE death mage than he'll receive, he gets fucked.

Admittedly, since he already did Elf, he had a right to be overconfident about a single deep elf. But a streaker should expect the worst, especially after he already got some bad rolls.

>up to a max of 75% or twice their normal frequency
gotta love how these are worded. Seems like the best of the bunch when you consider it, told mind dude about it... if mindfriend dies I'll tell him to start a demigod so he can get this and evasion.
>>
>>173938508

It's quite tame compared to Elona+
>>
>>173946968
>>173948449
that is wrong btw
those caps are for spell frequency changes from other things like AI

then AFTER those changes they get an uncapped bonus +10% cast rate per "point" of anger (they get +1 point whenever you damage them with a ranged spell, or 50% of the time when you shoot them), but note that anger resets back to 0 whenever the monster successfully casts an attack spell

also the way they select spells changes somehow as long as they have at least 1 point of anger
>>
Everyone knows the best way yo play PCB is to get to level 50 as a yeek and then grind the high risk spots for the stone of chaos until you can turn into a better race like tonberry or human or demigod small god
I mean why would you grind a demigod of Zeus for 20 hours when you can wyrm conga in less than five for nearly the same results, especially if your class has a healing power that the demigod would only be able to cast reliably when he's literally killed thousands of wyrms
>yeah but god parentage
Demigods are only worthwhile if you actually like grinding until you grow a bit of a stubble.
It's just wasteful
>>
>>173950398
they only take like twice the xp of yeeks to level, but being a nonshit race means they can fight things that are worth more than twice as much xp
>>
>>173950398
Why would you play a version of DCSS with 8 Lair levels?

It's just wasteful.

Everyone knows the best way to play DCSS is as a MiBe. Why would you play any other class or race when these are the best? It's just wasteful.
>>
>>173950829
Playing versions of DCSS with long branches is indeed wasteful.

Fighting enemies is extremely wasteful; fortunately the Devil's Team has our backs. I look forward to the day when we won't have to fight any enemies any longer. Speedruns will reach the triple digits.
>>
playing videogames is wasteful
>>

A yeek (any class but sorcerer which has a ridiculous XP modifier) has a XP modifier oscillating between 90 and 130, with an average of 110.
A demigod combo instead cruises between 290 and 380, average 330%.
A yeek has 33% (thirty -three) percent the XP requirement that any other demigod combo.
That's about three tens.
And that's terrible.

Is the Mountain Dwarf genocide finally complete?
>>
>>173952160
If you're just going to wyrm conga it, it literally doesn't matter what any XP modifier is, the only thing that matters is element immunity, which yeeks happen to have and other races don't. So instead of noting the low modifiers of yeeks, just note that it's super cheesy, so cheesy that Chris "honored friend of additions, sworn enemy of removals" Kousky got rid of cloning wands just to prevent such a thing.

You should definitely be able o play it standalone outside of codeblocks.

If I recall correctly, you should run an "install" target to make a standalone release (I should update the description).

Trying out a ranger of nature/trump to see if it's actually viable. I wanted to do nature/craft but the tele-level spell and dimension door really speak to me. How could anyone die if he can cast tele level

Shouldn't wear TWO rings, mon.
Rings increase satiation by a landslide. Anyway just chug random potions, and hope for something good.

HoMos of /rlg/ (and makleb), do you skill a bit of fire magic on them too or are the spellcasting aptitudes too shitty?

Ho is better at fighting with their weapons. If I'm going to pick up spells I usually aim for hexes or charms.
