TP sucks on Illaoi because her she needs to set up her passive tentacles. You TP into a fight and your only course of action is to land a really good R and even then people just walk the fuck away. Same reason she can't really roam at all. Meanwhile if you take ignite you've basically auto-won lane.

Illaoi is a strong splitpusher and she's a strong siege breaker. That's what she does. TPs into a team fight are largely fruitless and even if you want to play a more hard engage playstyle with Lil Aloha Righteous Glory is better.

Illaoi is strongest in areas where she's already set up her tentacles with her passive, borderline Fiora levels of unduelable and her AoE nature means she can't 1v2, not just 1v1. She is an amazing split pusher because she has huge pressure and demands the attention of several champs, but since she needs to occupy an area for around a minute to really saturate it with tentacles she can't backdoor TP like a Nasus or Jax. The second thing Illaoi is great at is counter engage and siege breaking. Amazing (physical) waveclear means you just Q incoming waves, and her tentacles set up in a tight area like a lane around a turret makes diving her and her team a death sentence.

A lot of people joke "just walk away" but if you set up your passive around an objective that means you've denied that area and the enemy has to either fight in the zone you control or give up the objective. Say a 5v5 breaks out around Baron. You land a good ult, the enemy team backs off, your team takes baron and if the enemy tries to take it back they get slammed.

Fucking this. I would say you could climb to Plat off of just farming alone. Get near perfect CS in almost every game consistently and then you'll be able to do it without thinking about it. After mastering CS'ing THEN you can do the "KEK LCS BIG PLAYS ROAMS." Until you can put out good CS numbers every single game you shouldn't be looking at other lanes.

If you push out as Quinn and have no eyeball on the jungler, you WILL die, so once I push out and I have no eyes or knowledge on jungler location, I pull back, or when post 6 I roam.

If you try to get 100% cs in lane as Quinn top, you will get absolutely destroyed by ganks, over and over, because they realise you're tunneling on the cs game.

I get it, cs is important, I don't specifically mindlessly poke and ignore cs in lane. I'm literally just unable to risk feeding by staying there, especially if they have a ganker like Zac and i'm playing into a Jayce.

I make up for this by having impact elsewhere on the map, which is usually how I carry games or influence other lanes into dominating their lanes.

Sometimes even, my roams land me with 2-3 early kills, and then I can just shove my lane right into oblivion and fast enough to retreat before being 3 man ganked.

But that's the overall risk by not playing a meta top, they aren't bruisers or tanks and have no way to escape a 2-3 man gank.

I prefer to play safe rather than tilt my team by dying, even if it does result in 20-30 extra cs before i'm killed. Tilting your team isn't worth it.

Think about it like this
Let's say you push the wave in once, then the creeps meet closer to the enemy tower, so it will start pushing toward you.

This is because the enemy's next wave will need to spend less time moving instead of attacking than yours.

Now, with the wave pushing to you, since you're quinn, bully and set up a freeze near your tower.
As long as you can, keep the minion wave close (but not so the tower is hitting it!) so you can both bully, duck into the brush to avoid minion aggro, and be a few steps away from tower in case of a gank.

Eventually, you'll have to do some facetanking as you start to build up a bigger and bigger minion wave.
If you see your lane opponent back or roam, immediately shove that huge wave into their tower and roam.

Now that wave will be occupied by the enemies tower, so the bigger the wave you shove in, the less cs you'll miss.
Nothing will be attacking the enemy minions while yours are attacking their tower, and eventually a large enemy minion wave will build up, crushing your wave before you lose any creeps.

You have from the time you shove to the time the enemy large wave is at your tower to try and get back.
It can end up being a long time, depending on how long you can freeze, and keep the enemy from pushing into your tower while you try and freeze.

This is pretty basic top lane stuff, so I'm just making sure you understand wave management before we start talking about other ways to maximize cs

Yeah this. Proper wave management is not even close to being necessary for climbing until super high ELO. You may run into the occasional smurf or climbing opponent that does it properly but 99% of the time simply CS'ing better will win you the lane.

Yeah, that's been something i've been trying to get down. But i'm often ganked far too often to set that up properly.

I mean, let me put it this way, most of the people even in Gold, in OCE, don't know how to handle Quinn, so I usually get a minute 1 or 2 kill on my laner. But that usually results in a 15+ minute jungle top camp.

In every single one of those games you see in that image, I was camped, the most recent one, I was laning vs a (really shit) Teemo (like really shit), I killed him easily, then every 60-90 seconds, the enemy's BLITZ SUPPORT came charging into lane and amazeballs hooked me to death, (Blitz, their mid and this teemo (somehow) were plat 4/5).

I could go into detail on these games. But being camped as a Quinn is a real thing, they see it as easy kills, and I see myself not pushing out so much, and wasting their ganks, as a overall positive impact for the team. Jungler comes and wastes time, or even, as with that game, the enemy supp (I assume they were Duo, but yeah).

I thought I already said that's what I generally do, roam at 6 for mid and to mess with the enemy jungler. Especially if it's something that doesn't clear at full hp, or a Lee or something who I can kick in the face if he Qs me. Usually a free kill if I catch him at a red or otherwise unaware.

Blue Trinket is something i've always been iffy about, I get it, it's great for spotting at range, but I also find them being destroyed all the time to be... less than useful. But I should get used to using it, I know.
Most of the time i'd rather get scanner so I can proper gank a Vayne (insta Eing when she pops out of her stealth is key to running a gank on her, no matter how fed she or you are, so you can control her condemn trajectory).

I always watch the minimap, as I also think I already said, that's the only time I push lane, when I know where the jungler is/was very recently.

Anyway, i'll work on my cs from now on, I know it's somewhere I have to improve, not the actual last hitting thing, but not roaming without 100% cause.

I suppose the logic is that Illaoi struggles to make plays with TP because of the very nature of her passive, but she also doesn't need ignite at all to win lane and pretty handily wins lane against people who do bring ignite despite bringing TP.

I'd still bring TP just for the safety net since top is the longest snowballiest lane, or at least exhaust instead of ignite since it scales into late game better and can be used both in lane and to protect a carry.
