It's precisely the pose and the proportions granted ny the perspective that I dislike.
Legs and hips are the focus of those portraits but their posed in such a way that rather than strong they look fat, like they could do more damage by falling on you than by kicking you.
Continuing form there, the perspective warps the waist and diminishes the chest to the point that these portraits remind me of roly-poly toys. This is probably not a class that should be defined by round shapes.
The pose of the arms would be alright form other angles but from this one it pushes the fists to the edges of the composition, granting the cestus' weapon and main point the lowest importance, even if the forward fist is enlarged.

As for the design itself I don't really enjoy much EO5's obsession with cramming as many fetishes as possible, although this one doesn't have it as bad as tummy bunny. Moreover, the skimpiness of the top clashes horribly with her armored thighs (why are there armor plates there and only there in the first place?), with a different pose/perspective this problem might have been alleviated.
And finally there's the problem only purple has: her face looks stupid and her hair looks like a dyed mop, not even twintails can save it.

Overall I think monks are way more pleasant even if their base pose is quite boring.

Well if you want your beasts to actually do shit then you really should probably max out Beast Soul at some point. I GUESS if you're just relying on binds and ailments then you can go right ahead and use a Farmer/Wildling but at the same time I don't think that's a really viable strategy.

Sooner or later you want your Wildling to transition to Tiger or Lion to contribute at least something.
EOIII introduces accumulated resistances but they do not fall off naturally like in the Untolds and nothing like Releasal Spell from EOIV exists to reset them.
So as fights get longer bosses quickly become immune against every bind and ailment.

The exception is something like the Gatekeeper who resummons himself and his parts constantly.
They count as new entities and only keep their HP. Their accumulated resistances reset and since breaking apart and reassampling are hard scripted into certain turns you can keep the Gatekeeper panic locked the entire fight.

But that's sadly the last time Wildlings are really useful. Anything actually dangerous beyond the Gatekeeper takes too long to die and is too resistant to binds and ailments by default.

Because TEC is a pretty bloated stat.
Throughout the series it has effected:
magical damage
magical defence
healing
hit chance
evade chance
ailment chance (in EOU it's even more important that LUC for that)

In EO2U they took away ailment chance.
It's possible they took away the evasion chance in EOU and this is why they buffed its importantance for ailments and binds.
But since most formulas for the Untolds are still unknown that's just a guess.

They did their best to get rid of all that bloat and by splitting it they put INT in line with STR in that it just affects your outgoing damage.
Healing an magical defence is now handled by WIS.

If you decided to take a Wildling along and don't want to swap it out you can just throw a Lion when you are at it.
With Beast Soul it will likely not die anytime soon and your Wildling can contribute a bit damage and a meat shield.

Warlock, Necromancer, Shaman and Herbalist - not surprising the classes of the races that have better INT than STR.

Compare that to EOU where only Alchemist could really use TEC for damage (Hexer and Medic also a tiny bit, I guess) but it got slapped on everything because it was so bloated.

Atlus RPGs are always like that, look at SMT, for example

INT helps everyone since it determines magical defense as well, meanwhile STR is pointless if you're a magical damage dealer. Even though everyone has the basic attack option which is based on STR, it's pointless to use it instead of magic if your STR is low. If you put 20 points in STR and 20 in INT, you might as well just delete your save file since you'll be terribly underpowered compared to someone who put 40 in STR or INT.

It's weird, because most RPGs are based on DnD mechanics, and something that DnD does right is letting every stat benefit every class in some way, so you don't just focus on one stat and leave the rest in the minimum number possible. Then there are games like SMT 4 or Diablo 3 where the stat system is so horrendously designed that I'm worried that whoever made it was some intern who didn't know what they were doing.

But I agree it's strange that caster normal attacks have to scale with STR. And that they are always melee.
It's not like giving them a staff that can actually fire a weak INT based attack without costing TP would completely break any balance.

Even if putting points in stats would still be possible and STR and INT did something for people that don't use them for their damage spreading your points thin would have you create a generealist who is inherintly weaker than a specialist.
And I think that is exactly how it should be in a party based game.
If a party of generalists is as effective as a party of specialists why even have different classes? For more variety in attack animations while everyone can do everything anyways?

Hard splitting STR and INT also means different classes will wear different gear so it creates some variety, gives you more options do design different equipment with different flavors and - since in EOV making equipment uses up materials like in EOIV - prevents bottle necks if there is a good piece of gear that 5/5 people want to wear.

It depends on the difficulty, really.
In a easy game there is nothing wrong with having anything be useful since it's more about your players just having fun messing around and trying everything out before getting nudged towards the end.
But in a rather hard series like EO this would not only be harder to balance - just look at Gladiator and Arbalist, physical classes with low TEC and AGI and because both stats to so many things both classes have horrible hit rates, are unable to evade and get tagged by every bind/ailment - it would also be kind of futile because specialist > generalist.

DnD is not primarily a game about overcoming difficult challenges. Sure, it is part of the experience but first and foremost DnD is a tool for the DM and the players to tell a story together.
Being lenient with stats so sub-par stat roles translate into different stories instead of dead weight characters is important. And one of the reasons DnD does not translate that well into video games since everyone is just min-maxing there killing of any chance of having a broad and interesting character.

EO on the other hand is all about overcoming challenges and making the correct decisions - both in battle and before when it comes to building your characters.
That's why I think being punished with a weaker character for messing around is completely justified. It's part of the difficulty and the appeal.

Nothing is stopping you from using one if you want to. The game doesn't need that much min maxing unless you're trying to fight the Abyssal God.

Prince class skill gives restores their TP.
As opposed to Buccaneer and Ninja they have massive TP pools and their skills are on the cheaper side so that skill is pretty useless.

Their stat spread is middling in pretty much everything except VIT so you could run P/H as your tank. Lower defences but more TP to spam skills.
Though you lose a lot compared to a H/N.

So no, main Princess is not all that great. Most skills don't even scale with anything so pretty much anyone can sub P for some buff coverage.
Monk is best because Form Qi interacts with Protect Order.

When buffs in EO talk about duration they usually exclude the turn they are activated in.
So it should be Berserker Vow -> next turn 3 turns duration are left
Charge -> 2 turns left
Blade Rave -> 1 turn left

So my best guesses are you either misread the number, did not use Charge or you had some BV turns left over from doing this sequence of skills once before in the same battle.

They are new classes but since the things you can do in any given engine are limited there are some overlaps.

Dragoon has nothing to do with Gunner. They use artillery/rifles as their weapons but that's all.
They have no elemental shots, no charged elemental, no binding and no Ricochet.
Most of their defensive skils are close to what Protector, Hoplite had. They also have Gun Mount which allows them to repeat a defensive skill (usually for less TP) and deal some damage.
Their damage option have something like the Dancer's Counter Samba and a few ailment (one of them being Curse...)

Cestus is if anything similar to whip Dark Hunter because they have all binds and one ailment in Combo second name.
Although their infliction chances are lower and Combo second name deals good damage both when an enemy is fully bound and has an ailment and when enemies are not bound at all.
Their other second name is a Highlander/Bushi, Gladiator/Yggdroid monster that doubles and tripples down on sacrificing their own HP to deal damage.
Just because they punch people doesn't mean they work like monk.

Stacking Beast and Protector is really suboptimal because of how much damage you lose in exchange for more defence than you will ever need.
But at least they don't activel hurt each other.

Both EO2U and EOV have more than one way of mitigating damage and I can see them continuing that trend since it's one of the better changes they recently made.
Having a defensive support is always useful and something most normal parties would like to have. So offering more than a single option is appreciated.
I can see them either putting Fortress in or reworking Yggdroid to give them a way to face-tank.

EOIII was a major departure from other titles.

In EO your party was a pretty horrible bunch.
Not only did they genocide an entire species of plant people they also killed an innocent tree.

The game whines about how now that the Labyrinth is cleared there won't be any more adventurers coming so commerce in the town will stop. But that's clearly bullshit because there are tons of ancient artifacts down there so they should attract scholars and shit.
The real danger is that everything collapses and everyone dies because of your party.

In EOII the Overlord is way less innocent but your party is also not that nice.
They murder everyone in their way even though Esbat asks them to maybe not do it and they leave a flying castle a quartes as high as Yggdrasil without any supervision. So it might fall and kill everyone.
And then they go to the 6th Stratum and unleash a horde of monsters against the town.

I'm playing EO3 and I'm getting about to meet the abyssal dude on floor 10. Thinking about getting Yggdroid because I want a cool robot. Not really sure what to do with it. Maybe gladiator to use and abuse hp cannon, is that affected by berserker vow and charge? It specified it's non-elemental so maybe it's a magic attack and that doesn't work. Maybe infravision can help with smashes?

Idk, but it's going to ruin my whole stab based party set-up. I need to reset my buccaneer, will they chase on attacks that do multiple hits against a single enemy? And I'm starting to feel like having a dedicated farmer isn't worth it since level 10 strange seeds never does anything. Was going to have him become a farmer/ninja but the ninja's status skills are pretty garbage/weak compared to beast.
Would it be a good idea to just retire my party for the extra stats/skills while they're still low level? If I'm reading this right you start with 7 skill points instead of 3, which is a pretty big advantage.

Yggdroid is a seriously gimped class. Their skills are all over the place and their low TEC and AGI makes them miss extremely often.
And they are capped at 60TP. Only equipment will ever increase that limit, levels will do nothing to it.

Farmer is not worth it no, their stats are just too bad, their skills unreliable at best and the few uses they do have quickly become less relevant as the game goes on because binds and ailments are really weak in EOIII.
Ninja is in the same boat as is Wildling.

Buccaneer Chaser skills are pretty bad. If your group is built around stab damage you get a few uses out of them but if you fight anyone that is resistant to stab you will get into real trouble.
Pincushion is a far better skill although it is really expensive to get.

Retiring has the new character start out at half the level of the old character with a max of level 30.
I don't think it's worth it before level 99 and even then its questionable. Grinding takes a really long time in EOIII.
You could retire your Farmer to pick up a more useful class. Yggdroid is only marginally more useful unfortunately.

If they only lose half their levels I might go along with it anyway. Leveling takes a while but I can probably get 15 not too painfully. At least for now my Lion is so strong that I can farm those 3-4 ancient fish FOE in the second stratum for like 20k exp a fight just using auto-battle.

Yeah, chasing was going strong for a while because there were a lot of spears available and it made up for the farmer's lack of damage. But it's way too unreliable and usually I do more just attacking normally. Pincushion seems super expensive to use though, is the bonus damage from agility really that good when I can take rapid shot all the way and always attack 3 times even if it's lower potential damage? I probably only have 30 something agility right now anyway.

Rapid Fire hits three times for 105% (of a normal attack) so that's 315%.
Pincushion hits for 1-3 times for (145+3*AGI)%. At level 35 you have 34 AGI (plus any equipment or books used) so thats 247% per hit.
If you are unlucky it will deal less damage sometimes - but as soon as you have 57 AGI by any means even one hit will deal more damage than Rapid Fire. And it can hit up to three times.

The Untolds have a ton of QoL added, all classes are rebalanced all floors are reworked (key components like vertain boss rooms and the entrance are still the same).
Story in classic mode is still the same.

If you enjoy not being able to sidestep (EO) and laggy, shotty programming (EOII) you can go back just fine.
Both of these games didn't age well and the Untolds gave them a well deserved and needed rework.

I start the fight with Geo Impact so I can make sure he doesn't use that shitty "your skills now cost double TP" skill,
Then Landshark starts with Improved link, set up strike guard with Fortress, try to inflict the most damage possible with Sniper and RuneMaster by using squall voley and Origin Rune then I try to bind them with arcanist.
I mean usually everything goes well, the main problem is him using that skill that inflicts aliments on my entire party which makes me lose a turn or 2 depending on how much he fucked up my A/M, He always ends up defeating me when his health is at red, the main issue is that the fight drags out for too long and that my characters always end up with no TP by the time he re-spawns his claws and buds for the third time, I always try to bind his head but I almost never do it in time, I managed to one time and that one time was also the closest I ever came to beating him literally less then 500 HP left(as far as I could tell), but him closing his eye fucked me over.
Any way to make this 'faster/easier' without casual mode?

The Moth Lords on the last floor can drop the material needed to make Amrita III.
Unfortunately you need 3 of this material and it only has a 25% drop chance.
Luckily the Nightmare Rams on the first floor of Hall of Darkness drop the material needed for Formaldehyde as their regular drop.

Amrita III restores 200 TP so that should help quite a bit.

Also consider getting accessories against ailment which screws you worst and making sure you use retired characters (10 to all stats is a huge difference, if you get books as well it will matter even more)

Imperial is a nice alternative but you need more skill points to make the most out of it.
They have a passive to increase elemental damage and they have one that restores TP when you hit a weakness.
So yes, they are the second best sub after Bushi for Runemaster. Taking just Elemental Boost will already be more useful than a dead Bushi if you don't use Blood Surge.

Armor is really weak in EOIII, EOIV and the Untolds.
It has a minor role in the damage formula and against STR-based attacks it's only 33% effective.
Strangely enough in EOIV it's 100% effective against TEC- based damage (which is still not much because of how the formula works).
This got rectified in the Untolds where armor does nothing at all against TEC-based attacks...

But ultimate armor has usually nice stats boosts which are worth it since you can only wear one accessoire and offhand weapon anyways.

Atlus hates success so they killed it for four games.

EOIV has generally the least amount of QoL and since its always better to gain new convinience instead of losing some it's a good starting point for that reason alone.
But it's also the easiest title in the series and it's hard to create a bad party as long as you generally know how a decent party should be structured.

I would start there and work my way forward.
Also I would advice for Normal difficulty instead of Casual.
The Untolds are generally harder so going there with Standard instead of Expert is fine if you they seem too hard.

4 is very balanced outside of a few shitty things (Bushi's Blood Surge and Medics being near useless as main class). Unlike 3 which lumps a lot of abilities into one class and a pretty broken subclass system 4 allows for a lot of different strategies with each class feeling like they have a separate but useful role. I personally found it more fun to replay through 4 just cuz of that.

4 has an overworld and a lot of optional side dungeons (usually pretty short), so don't worry about monotony.

Medics aren't useless, it's just as a mainclass they get outclassed by...a ton of other classes running medic as a subclass. And then there's the issue of actually subclassing a medic, which basically ends up either as landsknecht or dancer (and most of the time, L/M and D/M is better anyway).

Use one if you want, but it's the only class in the game (along with arguably bushi) that lags behind the others in terms of how useful they can be.

Okay. So 4 has Burst Skills, similar to Limits from EO3. I think that's the only major thing that changes about the actual combat.

4 has 6 stratums, as usual, but each is only 3 floors. This is made up for by the mini stratums on the overworld, which has a lot of stuff to do in it, like getting food, fighting F.O.E.s, a map of its own, so on. Each stratum has a certain gimmick to it - in the first stratum you need to manipulate F.O.E.s to break barriers, second stratum is a teleporter maze of sorts, etc.

I personally liked the stratums and their puzzles (3rd stratum is kind of a pain though). The fact that they're only 3 floors is kind of disappointing, and encounter rates are noticeably higher than in any other title, but overall they're solidly designed and actually do feel as long as earlier game's stratums.

Enemies now also have a frontline and a back line. There are new line piercing skills that hit one up front and one in the back.
Melee skills (and Lightning Rune of the Rune Master) can only hit the enemy backline if used from your frontline.

FOE puzzles are a lot more involved in the first two mazes especially.
You have to actively lure FOEs to specific locations to progress instead of just evading them (well in the second maze you lure them so you can evade them - still it feels noticably different).

Food buffs are now a thing. On the overworld you will find special food gather spots. Depending on what you eat your entire party will get buffed with stats, resistances or more XP.

Rare breeds exist. That are golden glowing enemies that are ten times as fast and deal 20% damage every turn.
They can be a hassle if an otherwise slow enemy gets the speed boost and if you leave them alive too long their damage starts ramping up into worrysome levels.

You can finally gather, chop and mine without having the dedicated skills. Getting the skill is only one point now and it wields better results and more tries but it's not nearly as important as it used to be.

Melee classes have more damage potential overall and the only physical damage dealer is the Sniper (unless you count Dancers with bows).

A Landsknecht with a proper group can eradicate bosses in four to five turns (including two turns to set up).
A Nightseeker has a poison skills (only available at 40+) that melts nearly all random encounter enemies including those in the post game stratum. And it deals good damage to FOEs and bosses. They also deal way more damage to enemies with an ailment boosting their decent damage into extremely good territory.
The two locked melee classes have really good burst potential.

Oh also skills are now tiered.
There are no masteries in EOIV but instead certain skills will only be able to be learned at 20+ or 40+.
It's a bit annoying for some classes but I never found it to be that much of an issue. It allows for some skills to be flat out too strong for the early game like the Nightseeker's poison I mentioned.

I agree that levels are important in EO. Stats give you a major boost to everything especially if VIT and TEC is your main defence while armor is nearly useless.

But I never felt the need to grind in any EO outside of tackling the post-game superboss.
Stratum number times ten plus five is usually a good level to fight a stratum boss and outside of excessively resting or skipping everything you are usually at or above that level when you encounter a stratum boss.

The only time you are really underleveled are Golem, Alraune and Manticore in EOU. You get their quests way too early.

I don't think even the Juggernaut fight will take over 25 turns - mostly because you would be dead at this point.
He likes to break pattern if you take too long and use his "fuck you, you are dead" move you can otherwise prevent from coming out.
Also you get a 100% damage buff which plays into the main gimmick of the fight.

The shitty thing about EO2U bosses is that almost every single one of them after Basilisk is extremely pattern-based and will punish you very heavily if you take more than 5 turns and don't memorize its patterns.
This gets ludicrous in the post-game when so many bosses are crammed together.

Fill it before the battle in the first maze, as far I remember, it gives you enough time to fill it again after using it in the first turn. Also, I remember it was susceptible to an ailment that can earn you free turns, but I forgot which one.

Supernova is used every fifth turn.

Darkness Curse is used at the beginning of the fight, at 71% health, at 41% health and at 21% health.
The first time it binds the Fallen Ones head and legs, the second time its head and arms, the third time its head and the fourth time its arms.

You can counter the full binds on your party with Freedom Waltz plus Wide Dance except for the first one. For this just have everyone that is slower than Darkness Curse throw Thericas at your key party members.

If you are lucky the Black Mist Burst skill will make the head bind from the first Darkness Curse last to turn 5 and Supernova will be used and fail.
After this essentially free turn you have four more to bring him to 71% preferably right before turn 10 comes around.
Similarly you can bring him relatively safely and slowly to 41% right before turn 15 and then you burst him down from there if you are not able to do it earlier.
Head bound enemies take about 1.4times TEC damage btw.

Don't you just love that AGI increases turn speed, evasion rate and hit chance?
And TEC also influences hit chance and evasion rate.
So any slow physical class is fucked from the beginning. Go after any enemy, most likely miss.
Bonus points for low LUC just to make sure that missing is the expected outcome.

In EOU TEC is the main factor for ailment infliction and LUC the less important one, just because fuck you.

Everyone should wear an accessoire and everyone except Fortress and Imperial should be dual wielding. Fortress because they need their shield, Imperial because Drive Blades disable dual wielding.
The Forge slots in a second weapon are worth more than any shitty armor a helmet or even a shield would give you.

It deals 250% TEC damage.
Inferno Rune deals 125% max, Origin Rune 140% max, Flame Wall 90%.
Zeus Wrath deals 4-5 hits of 50% so it can sometimes be as strong as Supernova against single targets.

It's not utterly broken and it is a bit expensive since this late in the game other Burst skills are more useful that flat out damage but it is usable.

It's prevent order that only blocks ailments. At level 20, barrier has an 85% of nullifying binds. Some would go through but it would still make that dragon so much user. With a certain food buff you can also make therica A heal whole lines if needed. And did medical miracle work with head bind on? Not like you're gonna use it in the first turn though.

On top of faf, dark hunter is also gonna love how that dragon binds itself. There are quite a few tools to make mincemeat out of the fallen one in EO2U.

Barrier blocks ailments, binds and even debuffs.
It blocks guaranteed inflictions as well, even self-inflicted binds like from Chained Benefit or Stigmata.
So the only way for Darkness Curse to do something would to inflict the binds in waves.

Barrier has only five charges but blocking a skill that inflicts an ailment, binds and debuffs all at once counts as one charge afaik.
So it would need to be Darkness Curse (legs), Darkness Curse (arms), Darkness Curse (head) so the charges get eaten by the first one.

War Lore increases several aspects of War Lore skills.

Forgot about war lore. Bring in a war magus for that barrier, a dark hunter for bind abuse, a hexer for the missing arm bind (and feeding ailments to the WM later on) and an alchemist for compressed jars... I guess the best option would be troubadour to further make the damage explode (we could give the dark hunter a prelude for turn one on top of that) and the poor dragon would blow up. Although if it does survive things could get ugly fast.

I'd be willing to sacrifice any of the current dragons (or all three of them) for the fallen one.

Fallen One and Elder Dragon both have Supernova but they are handled differently with the Fallen One disabling his often himself while the Elder Dragon does not give you such a help.

Archanist has the better Ailment Boost and better TEC and LUC. Post-game bosses have pretty low chances to get stuff inflicted to them anyways.
Since Ailment Boost goes after other calculations it's pretty important against enemies with low chances.

But the dragons only have 30% for all binds any ways so because of accumulated resistances you will only be able to inflict every bind once even with Ailment Boost (since it doesn't work if the enemy is flat out immune).
The only way to remove accumulated resistances is the Archanists Releasal Spell.

I looked into it and before adjusting for TEC and LUC your Sniper would have the higher chance to inflict binds.
Their base chance it 65%, their Ailment Boost 10%. With 30% resistance on the dragons that's an overall chance of 29.5%.
Archanist base chance is 45% but their Ailment Boost 15% so overall they have 28.5%.

TEC and LUC difference should not make such a huge difference since Sniper TEC and LUC is still decent iirc.
Are you running into accumulated resistances with your Archanist binding them first and your Sniper unable to ever do it again?

It's not like there is anything worth saving them for if you are already fighting the dragons.

Also mixed type attacks are how you get dragon conditionals.
The Barrages of the Arbalist for example are both one of the elemental elements and stab. Mixed elemental attacks always go against the resistance that allows them to deal the higher damage so they are basically stab attacks that fulfill the condition of killing with an elemental attack.
