I'm thinking of starting a new tall CK2 playthrough, what should I do and where should I do it?

I've done Gotland, Venice and most recently Switzerland, so this time around it'll definitely be a single province again, at the most 2 provinces. I was thinking of either Crete or Cyprus, but I'm not sure what angle I should go for. Some gimmicky Muslim MR spamming cities to try to max out provincial income, or full on Scottish Zunist with full castles and try for some gimmicky 50,000+ levies from a single province?

Feudal De Jure Law is an okay one if you want to prevent revolts in annoying places and not spend the Mil on Harsh Treatment. However you have to spend splendor on it.

The institution spread one is basically useless when you can just use that money you're paying to embrace faster instead.

Centralization Effort is shit, since you're just paying more in maintenance than you're making from lowered autonomy anyway. Plus it barely does anything at all, -.03 is practically nothing. You're better off just lowering it manually and eating the unrest.

Religion Enforced is alright if you want to play Catholic... but why the fuck would you do that? Catholic is garbage.

Protect Trade is a meme since you're paying more than you're making in basically every instance.

Very good bonuses: most of the unique ones, Higher Developed Colonies, Absolutist Government, Artillery back row damage, Napoleonic Warfare, free War Taxes, Religious Wars, Improved Forced March, there are others but I can't remember them

Good bonuses: Adaptive Combat Terrain can be great if you're a horde with your capital in Steppe. Cavalry armies is OK if you can afford lots of cav. Justified Wars is nice for expanding in HRE. Prestigious Conversion is a nice bonus if you're playing Protestant or some other religion that converts a lot.

Ones to avoid: Ship Trade Power Propagation does almost nothing at all, it's not worth it. Flexible Rivalries is fucking worthless, I've never once in over 1000 hours of EU4 never had the need to change my rival ever, and it doesn't even make it free. Protecting Forts would be nice... If it lasted after the age is over. Since it expires you can't just spam forts for free, so once the age of Revolutions comes you either have to tear them down and lose your investment or go bankrupt.

I remember playing as Hungary (Vanilla) and invading Yugoslavia. A whole bunch of Divisions got caught up in the mountains north of Belgrade. While the rest of the army disjointedly formed up and cleaned up in the north of the country. Having no motorised or anything like that, just lots of infantry divisions. Most of the Yugo divisions escaped by pathetic encirclement attempts and the whole conflict devolved into a viscous line combat moving north to south. I feel like a shitty/medicore WWII general still stuck in the WWI mindset. Stupid shit is fun. And that time I got besieged in Sofia for two years till Germany bailed my ass out as Bulgaria.

I will add that I think the best bonuses overall are Higher Developed Colonies (if you're colonizing it's fucking broken, +3 development per colony is insane, in some cases that doubles your development), Justified Wars and Religious Wars (It's free real estate), Absolute Government (it's the only way to make Absolutism tick up on its own), and then basically all the warfare bonuses from the last age which are really powerful.

Napoleonic Warfare is probably the most powerful bonus of all, if you don't have it and your enemy does you're going to be sitting on their Level 8 forts with a thumb up your ass while they chew through yours like they're Level 2 and ravage your countryside.

The AI can't handle two conflicts at a time. This is true in every Paradox game, look at the Hearts of Iron series where units in Russia are constantly streaming back and forth between Vladivostok and Stalingrad, or in Vicky 2 where Britain's empire falls like a house of cards when gently poked because they can't handle defending different parts of the world at the same time.

The AI is either programmed in a very simple way that only focuses on one thing at at time (which would make sense since every tag has its own AI), or perhaps the player is simply OP because of their human brain and ability to pause the game.

Either it's confirmation bias - i.e. you believe the AI is fucking over the player, and you see the AI attacking you, therefore it must be attacking you to fuck you over as a player - and you're missing a different reason they attacked you, such as you're weaker and easier to defeat or closer to their capital or something, OR, something recently changed with the AI and they do actually target players now.

You also have to remember that the AI has ADHD and pays most attention to the things that just happened. So if you declared war on it after it was already in a war, it might drop everything to focus on you even if it fucks them over. I've seen this happen so many times but in reverse, I'll be fucking up a country and another AI country will do its opportunistic thing where it dogpiles on a weakened nation and declares war, and then suddenly the AI I was fighting will stop defending from me and send ALL of its forces to fight the new invader.

I'm convinced it's coded that way because if the AI was allowed to split its forces, the player could just outmaneuver and stackwipe any country they want to since the AI is really dumb.

Just united Japan as Shimazu, can't decide wether to give up 10% land fire and 10% morale for -2 unrest and +20 settlers. I was thinking the settlers and unrest might be better since I can't expand into the Manchuria, Korea, Indochina or China. Or I could crawl my way into the heart of china stacking military bonuses. In M&T, from the earliest start, you don't need any specific provinces to form the United Provinces, just a certain amount of cities in the Low Lands.
If I want to take all the provinces my home trade node, (3 provinces in the Picardy area) then I would have to fight France and their vassal Burgundy for them.
As for allies, none. Due to diplo relations limits, I had the PU you start with and a vassal or time the entire time up until a few years ago. I'm still trying to decide allies for the moment, but in the image you saw, what wasn't shown was how I have the largest army in Europe right now, and the only one who could threaten me is France, who is friendly to me right now

Going to post my Denmark game because I have nowhere else to go.
started in 1444, fought livonian order, teutons, novgorod, got a good bit of land to start. Can't seem to keep income up the whole game, Started integrating norway, no issues, etc etc, declared on scotland for norway's cores via decision, got a bit of scottish land, then attacked england when they were at war in iberia. The whole game I havent been able to make any money at all, im always strapped for cash, on at least 1 loan, have been through multiple disasters and have had literally hundreds of revolts at this point. I'm at my wits end, I have NO idea how to keep up with all of the revolts and managing my economy.

A lot of my provinces are high autonomy, but I've tried to state the Higher development states in order to maximize the gain. the ones that are low autonomy are always the most rebellious, I'm Always getting revolts, they always seige my shit, give the province a bunch of autonomy, then I can't lower it for 15 years. If you take clay, things get really easy really quickly. It's a sandbox game, you have to pick a goal and stick to it. For example, if I played Denmark I probably wouldn't take much clay at all, but I might set the goal to make all of Europe Protestant or to colonise a fuckton of America.

Glad I could help. Honestly the game is in a decent state now, it's the first time I've felt like I could play without mods. I've never played Ironman before because playing without mods used to be unthinkable, but it's okay now. The biggest problem is the speed of institution spread to some regions, especially West Africa.

I wish they'd fix some of the historical inaccuracies in the starting date as well. It really annoys me that they just released an expansion which finally included the tributary mechanic, but Brunei isn't a tributary even though it was IRL. And being a tributary costs you, whereas IRL access to China's market was highly lucrative so states were eager to become tributaries.

That's just another historical inaccuracy. The benefits should be economic, not military. IRL Brunei and Sulu were eager to become tributaries because it was lucrative.

And Ryukyu was a tributary and was invaded by Japan, and China didn't give a fuck because even though Japan conquered the place, they let it remain a tributary so that Japan could trade with China through Ryukyu.

I understand that it's difficult to model a province or vassal of Japan also being a tributary of China, but the mere fact that Japan attacked Ryukyu and China didn't react shows how different EU4 tributaries are to historical tributaries.
