Yes. The one state that will lead to the Europe we have now is Brandenburg. The weaker Brandeburg is in your game, the greater the present day of that alternate universe will be for all Europeans. This also applies to France.
In your map Brandenburg is small and ineffectual and fuck knows what is going on with France. They will never weaken the power of the Empire or indirectly or directly aid the Ottomans or whatever other treacherous shenanigans they might dream up.
Your Europe will have a glorious future.

It feels more sandboxy than eu4, isn't very railroaded outside of some occasional missions and you actually can roleplay country based on your sliders. There is also tech spending instead of mana and more dynamic trade thanks to ability to create your own trade centers
But it has retarded ai, common bordergore, less complex diplomacy, less historical flavour and terrible alliance system which can lead to frustrating/hilarious situations where you have to fight half of europe over declaration of war on some OPM
I think eu 4 is overall better game despite its own flaws but i like to play eu 3 occasionally.

To be fair infamy is literally the only cheat i use in V2 as well. I cannot stand waiting for it to drop especially since the games timeline is insanely short. I only use it to get below 20 so if its 19, whatever.
I also use provid to get nice borders since you can only take states and give ugly border provinces back to the enemy.

I chose to stick to the Shimazu Ideas because I'd eventually have to fight Ming and the 10% morale and fire damage, as well as the 1% army tradition is too good for war. They cancelled our tributary agreement, I've conquered most of Manchuria and most of Korea, It's 1549 now and I'm about to declare a humiliation war on Ming to get some PP and cash, as well as to keep them out of a coalition. I have a force limit of 84, they have 146, but 80 of them are mercenaries and have no manpower, so they'll end up drowning in loans. I'm hoping that the mercenary discipline buff doesn't make a difference.
>>173534617
>What the fuck was so special about Abraham or Muhammad
What is "special" about them is that they were prophets. That's kind of fundamental.
But I don't see what bugs you about that. Why would you expect religions not to have any special or higher-status figures? That's not the way the world works now or when those religions were getting started. Obviously there would be a hierarchy. If Muhammad just preached "everyone is equal including me, I'm not special and God doesn't talk to me at all" why would anyone listen to him, let alone follow him into battle?

Not even Abrahamic religion, Greek philosophers played the "I was going home drunk from a brothel and passed out by the roadside but then Athena picked me up and brought me to Olympus and explained exactly how the world works" card to try to get their ideas accepted. Assuming God is the truth, having the truth talk to you personally would give you a good deal of credibility compared to the rest of us.

>>173538468
>combat worth
i dont get it
>>173538750
5% disc = 5 combat worth
Then I calculated how much damage a specific army did, and how much more damage it did by adding 5% disc, and how much less damage an army would take if it had 5% more disc.
Then I did the same for other stats like 10% infantry combat ability, 10% fire damage, land leader shock.
10% inf combat ability got a value of 2,47204439.
So 20% infantry combat ability would almost deal as much damage as 5% disc would deal and protect.
Morale doesn't deal damage, so it is just listed as Disc/2, so 10% morale = 5% combat worth.
>>173538447
Why to believe is a different question though. I would imagine you've got to want to believe it first. There's not a chance anyone can prove God through empiricism and reason, so I'd think you have to find the conclusion satisfying enough (promise of heaven, fear of hell, whatever) in order to bridge the gap between their promises and your reason with 'faith' (suspension of disbelief).

The earlier you go in tech, the land leader fire and fire damage will get less worth compared to land leader shock.
I plan to do more calculations based on different takes and army comps, but it takes some time to do all the inputs.
Started doing one for chinese troops at mil tech 15 before a coop game I started today.
I think it might be more relevant to see how good fire damage is at that point.

2) Not much improvement in splendors, otherwise you're Portugal making colonies grow fast otherwise its mediocre. Napoleon Siege or something is a must though
3. Take Golden age on your first major war. +10 is great. better to take the GA while your still struggling rather than take it later when you're blobbing

For some having the north of France rather than the south or both makes me more sense to me than having only the south.
Franks are a germanic culture while southern France really isn't but historically Charlemane had both.
Italy is fine but you shouldn't have a province in Africa unless you want to restore the Roman Empire.
You should get Saxony and maybe get a nicer looking eastern border.

It's a MTTH so it's just random when it spawns, after 1500. Theoretically it could just never spawn, though the odds are so astronomical the heat death of the universe would probably happen before you found a game where that happened.
I like it because it creates some variation between games.
>>173558678
>It's a MTTH so it's just random when it spawns, after 1500
The MTTH is like half a year after you qualify.

Yes, but that doesn't mean it will happen in half a year. It's still random so it CAN take any amount of time, even though it's not likely to take very long at all.

I unfortunately can't compare it to other religions since this is my first playing after the end. Occultist are basically pagans, to the extent that your holy order "the Masons" won't even attack other pagans such as the rust cultist or even the Germanic pagan by lake Superior.
They have some unique things going for them though, the big one being vision quests. They are these super cool vague stories and depending on how your ruler interprets them you get different stat boosts and traits.
There are three different school of thoughts that change your stats but its just disappointing. It's inheritable and you can only change them ONE time after you reform your religion. No events at all from what I can tell.
I think part of the reason I wasn't bored was because NE was a fun starting place for invasions and raiding. If you wan't gold raid Manhattan or the Caribbean. If you wan't artifacts raid the great lakes and rob the rust cultists of there cool ass shit.
Only other thing I can think of are the flavor events with Britain.

What exactly does a trade value modifier do? I don't understand the benefit of building a customs house; it doesn't display how much income you'll get from building it, but how much it increases the province's local trade value. How do I know how that'll translate to value in my node? If I build a customs house in a province where it says it'll give me +1.3 local trade value, for example, will that translate to a 1.3 ducat/year increase in value at my node?

>>173576469

>>173576469
could you please rephrase the question
>>173576469
The more trade power you have in a node the more of the money you control. So for end nodes you are collecting from trade power will turn in to you taking more of the value.
It's basically the same if you are transferring trade to another node, the more power the more money being pushed downstream.
Trade power doesn't increase to total value of the node only what you get out of it at the cost of other countries income. Increasing production is what directly raises the value of a trade node. While Trade efficiency only increases what you are already collecting from that node.
>>173576852
I'm not talking about trade power or trade efficiency, I'm literally talking about trade value. At least in MEIOU, customs houses produce a local trade value modifier of +20%, entirely unrelated to production efficiency, trade efficiency, or trade power. And that's why I don't have a fucking clue what it actually does.

I'm watching this now, I knew Absolutism would be broken in this patch. Not having a cap was a mistake.
>>173584968
How does it work? As far as I can tell, you get discipline but if it goes too high you get a disaster?
>>173585060
The run has nothing to do with discipline, that was a ruse. It's about Admin Efficiency. Long story short through forming a bunch of shit you can rack up a fuckton of max absolutism and since Absolutism gives admin efficiency, you can increase AE so much that you can annex a fuckton of development (2000+) in a single war, and get provinces for free.
>>173585060
>>173585191
Here's an example.
https://clips.twitch tv/PrettiestDistinctAntTooSpicy
Also this isn't even the most broken it can possibly be, theoretically it's possible to skyrocket AE so high it goes to 101% which might just break the game.
>>173585258
>>173585191
How do you even get that much absolutism?
>>173584928
Like in total war
Use the Sengoku casus beli for reduced AE which gobbles up your fellow vassals, then when you're big enough you conquer Kyoto, when that happens you become the new shogun. IIRC when you declare war on the shogun your allies automatically join with you, so just wait until there are two or three vassals left, ally them, seize Kyoto then Diplo annex your vassals.
If you become a tributary of China then you can annex their other tributary states, but don't take land that is connected via land and not sea with china, as if that happens they can declare war on you and annex lands.
Once you've unified Japan form Japan, but don't swap ideas. Turn catholic as soon as possible so you can royal marry Europeans, and colonise the East Indies and Australia
End game borders are greater Asian co prosperity sphere

He started as the Papal State, formed Shan, and ended up forming France. Starting as the Pope was just a ruse though and forming Shan was just to let him turn Protestant. Furthermore, Iceland is just a meme thing he did at the end that doesn't help anything.
The real trick is the power of France and Prussia and their ability to rack up Absolutism. Remember, 100% absolutism gives +40% admin efficiency, which means everything you take in war is 40% cheaper... But Absolutism doesn't cap at 100.
The Absolutism comes from this:
>+65% Base
>+5 from being a Great Power
>+10 from Legitimacy
>+5 from Religious Unity
>+5 from monarchy
That's 90 max absolutism, which is nothing special, right?
When he formed France, he got access to a decision called "L'etat c'est moi", which gives +20 maximum absolutism for the rest of the game. This remains whether you form stuff or not. This gives him 110% max absolutism. Then, he deliberately made the "Court and Country" disaster fire, and after crushing it, received another 20% max absolutism, bumping him up to 130%.
Then he formed Prussia. When you form Prussia you immediately get the Prussian Monarchy government, which gives +10% Absolutism as opposed to any other monarchy which gives at most +5%, so that's an extra 5% absolutism on top. Then, Prussia is eligible for an event which gives them another +20% max absolutism.
Then if you start a Golden Era, that's another +5 maximum absolutism. There was a 5% bonus from something else, too. After all that, he had +165% Max Absolutism. This gives him +66% admin efficiency, just from Absolutism.
Then you get 30% just from technology. This means that he has 96% admin efficiency. This means that every peace deal he makes only gives him 4% of the Aggressive Expansion, BEFORE any other modifiers. He also only gets 4% of the overextension. By using the Imperialism CB and Diplomatic Ideas, the AE and OE become 4%, then 75% of that, minus 20% of that. Basically, war is free.
>>173585446
>>173586282
Finally, if you're able to do all that shit by the Age of Absolutism, you can activate a Splendor bonus that gives you +5% admin efficiency, which means you'd have 101% admin efficiency. No one has actually done it but it might just make provinces free to take and erase Overextension from existence.
>>173586332
>>173586282
That's crazy thanks senpai
>>173586282
The easiest way to do this would probably be to just start as France and play through the game fucking up the HRE until you get to the point that you can turn into Prussia. All the other shit like the Pope isn't necessary.
Though I guess in theory you could do a run where you get max discipline and max AE at the same time.

I think I took like half of Italy in one war and Austria either peaced out early in the war or they broke their alliance all together. I fought valiantly against France, Spain, and a bunch of HRE minors, but I could not hold.
This was several patches back. I haven't been able to get a game off the ground with them recently, and restarting for hours just to get into a decent starting position is so fucking annoying. I hate trying for hours and realizing I wasted my fucking day for nothing.

Fun for the first 100 years or so. I played it twice and both times I quit around the 30 year for two reasons. First the game ran bad as it was but come the 30 year war it ran real time and I have a good computer also on the 30 year war it was impossible to manage. The other reason is I became unbelivibly powerful. Starting as Hesse I managed to conquer down to pfalz west to trier not very far north but all of Saxony. Needless to say no one could mach me in power. Other amusing things is France and Poland and the ottmans when the show up appear to do nothing in fact in my hesse game France was annexed by Savoy of all nations.

Do the DLCs add code to the game, or are the features added to the base game with the normal updates and are simply inaccessible until you buy the DLC?
>>173598494
Pretty sure it's the latter, since the AI would still need access to the new events and stuff, though it might vary from DLC to DLC. I think there was some goof regarding ToG/SoI where you could just add a is_playable = yes in some file to gain access to pagans and/or muslims.
>>173573334
You can actually. RotA lets you colonize Judea (along with the rest of Europe and Mediterranea)

If an institution has sprung up somewhere, you can force it to appear in your lands by developing the hell out of a province.
It afterwards spreads out from that province to neighbouring lands, so if you do this as a non-European nations you'll allow your neighbours to catch up quickly, too.
By the way, if I'm playing in a pretty remote location without any immediate threats, is it worthwhile to lag behind on technology a bit instead of adopting them as soon as they hit -5%, and maxing out idea groups first?
>>173599216
Try using plant and flower names.
Or names of materials.(Iron,wood,water)
Then add adjectives to it.
Try basing it on resource placement
If you have a province with gold, name it after gold.

No, a single province can become deceptively powerful. You can theoretically squeeze out 60,000+ levies from your capital. It's trickier in the early parts of the game, but it's all just a matter of stacking modifiers and getting ahead in tech later on.
>>173600550
The naval landing penalty is big enough for you to be able to repel forces more than twice your size, especially if you have good retinues. Places like Venice and Gotland should be impregnable vs the AI. I'd pirate M&M but I wouldn't buy it, I did and I regret it. It has free stats out of the ass so it's a must-have if you like min-maxing but the amount of content and the execution of the DLC was really lackluster.

I don't know any japanese, but wouldn't it be better to just translate the original place names using the syllable system of japanese (I think it might be katakana or kana or whatever, essentially just japonify the name) and then change it to sound prettier?
Make the sounds harmonize.
>>173600764
Just play normally but instead of spreading your infrastructure out over a kingdom/duchies you just pour all your gold into your capital and tech, hoping to get lucky with permanent province modifiers (jewish settlements, great library, religious settlements, monuments etc) that will catapult your capital into broken status.
Levy size is 5% x martial - 10, so every martial over 10 increases your levy size by 5%. Having a god-tier ruler, wife and marshal (god tier = 20-25 range) would put your state martial at 75 (65 effective) giving a 325% levy boost.
how do i into vic 2?
>>173600675
How does White and Based do it?
I wish CKII had more cultural diversity. The uniformity present is utter nonsense for a period during which even regional cultures were barely a thing, and there was a great deal of linguistic and cultural fragmentation, with every other cluster of villages speaking its own dialect and having their own identity.
It also doesn't make sense that provinces as early as 800 are fully Christian already. It wasn't until the 14th or 15th centuries that parish churches really penetrated the countryside and Christendom became entrenched outside of cities and elite circles.
>>173600712
>The naval landing penalty is big enough for you to be able to repel forces more than twice your size, especially if you have good retinues. Places like Venice and Gotland should be impregnable vs the AI.

You can get higher titles and then dump other provinces. I got an empire title as Gotland just to get more tech and retinues, I haven't played this save in a while but I'm pretty sure I got some titular kingdom, then took the republic of Venice, subjugated a massive Lithuania to get enough (3) king-tier titles to form a custom empire. After I had the title I gave control of all Lithuania to a non de-jure vassal of a foreign religion and granted him independence, leave me with Gotland, Venice and an empire title.

The sinosphere doesn't name places after people for the most part. In fact it was and still somewhat is considered extremely distasteful to name your kid after anyone or anything, which is why you don't have Oda Nobunaga IV fighting against Uesugi Kenshin X. Japan wouldn't name Mexico something based off Nagashima just because the guy who discovered it was named Nagashima Joutarou.

It is because either Ming or Korea rape and core the Manchu tribes before 1500. In just about every game, the Manchu AI gets crushed or cucked early in all the games I've played in Asia. There needs to be more negative events for the Mings or a buff for the Manchu because their AI sucks.
Maybe there should be reforms for the Ming like the Aztecs, but each reform removes autonomy instead of buffing them with core-cost and more monarch points.
