I believe you can go to master with any deck, as long as you pilot it well and it's proactive/aggressive enough. It won't be as fast as a meta deck obviously, but it's possible.

You don't win a game by playing Eachtar on an empty board. The thing that enabled him is the new cards like Prince catacomb and Zombie Party, and Thane. When a bunch of your deck is board flood redundancy it's pretty easy to ensure you have followers that you can buff to go face. Prince catacomb was one of the last cards even revealed so people didn't even see that synergy when he was revealed.

Walfrid's effect is theoretically stronger than Eachtar so why isn't sword overpowered right now then? It's because they don't have the ability to keep a board like shadow does.

Not really. With Forest all you need to do is get some damage in early and then survive until you get your combo pieces. Pegasus Elf takes care of bigger threats and Aerin helps against smaller.

Elf Queen helps a bunch because it's not only the heal but also a body large enough to be a threat, especially with an evolve. Yeah, there's not much Forest(or anyone really) can do against Dragon with a good curve but it's not autoloss.
