Because humans are by design social creatures who need companionship to thrive, and without it, Civilization would not have reached the point it has now. Womankind becoming more independant over the span of the last century does not clear this inarguable fact, and only threatens men who feel they are inadequate deep down inside and are intimidated by the possibility of having their previously male dominated role infringed upon.

People change with age of course, we're constantly evolving creatures. The same applies to married couples. There is a shit load of sacrifice and general compromise that will have to be made in order to make it work, but I feel like the ultimate goal of an unbreakable companionship and the oppurtunity of raising my own flesh and blood with this person just like my parents did me with the chance to live an even greater life than me makes it worth it.
