Anarchy's children is the one you're thinking of, it adds a lot of mad max esque accessories and stuff.

You can also have soldiers run around in short shorts + sports bras or regular shorts.

Alien hunters and Shen's last gift are kinda eh imo.

One caveat to this, sometimes when you upgrade armor a soldier will get the stupid anarchy options and you've got to fix them.

Not a big deal to me since I always customize my soldiers' armor.

The way I see it stealth is there to let you get to the action faster than overwatch camping and avoid the "welp I activated the entire map on my first move" scenario.
The problem is that it's too good at letting you pick your fights and anything you ambush has zero chance of surviving.

I'd like to keep the former while minimizing the latter and I think the best way to do that is limit the time of setup. One way to do it would be to take the timers, reduce them and make it the "turns until concealment is lost" timer. So the game is telling you, OK man, you have four turns to find the best ambush and then go loud. Alternatively you could increase the pod detection radius every turn until it eventually becomes impossible to sneak past them, forcing you to engage. Harder to implement but you could also make it so that any pod you have LOS of for two consecutive turns activates and breaks concealment. Makes stealth more skillful since you need to keep breaking LOS to maintain it and prevents you from doing the silly thing where somebody with an AOE skill just sits still for seven turns waiting for stuff to waddle nearly on top of them. Would make hunker down lowering your LOS for the turn really useful too. I don't think it has any application otherwise.

Stealth was meant to fix the problem of EW where the best way to engage a pod was to sit in overwatch and wait for them to wander into you, but at the end of the day stealth is the exact same thing but dialed up to 11. Proper use of stealth makes the game slower, not faster while at the same time making it too easy. The biggest challenge ends up being how good you are at handling being bored.

First off for a 8 minute video it didn't feel too long which is good. I really felt like not having any game audio is a mistake. There no meatiness or punch when you are blowing up ayys or bbqing them which I think definitely brings down the quality. The background music is ok, but I feel like leaving the game sounds with you background track taking less center-stage would be an improvement. The commentary is pretty solid, though at times I felt like you were talking just to talk. Maybe you feel the need to talk with no game-audio, but I'm not sure if everything things that happens (like not finding ayys on that turn) needs to be commented on. Your voice is fine, I think I saw complaints on earlier vids, but I don't have any for this one. There were a few times where you dashed and my internal xcom brain winced in horror, but that's a pretty small detail. I think that's everything I have to say.

Well, guess I'm fucking wrong then. Never read the patch notes though so I just assumed suppression worked as it did in vanilla. The mod is actually called Roullete Plus for anyone interested. I recommend disabling the merged perk feature if that's possible, since it seems to be a bit powerful.

I've tried to keep it out of my videos, but if you've got about ten minutes, download OBS, record some gameplay (without ingame music), and then cut and splice two bits together. If a soldier is talking it sounds super off, ambient noises jumping around can be awful too.

Apparently Newfoundland has its own unique lid. It's silverish, didn't think fast enough to screenshot during the spawning animation. Shows up from the inert zombies if you let them live long enough. Unlike the usual spawn procedure where the lid gets a turn, for these ones the zombie moves, the lid spawns after but doesn't get a turn. Never seen it before despite playing this mission dozens of times.

I did it. Some bad wounds. Near the end the command pod just wandered into me and hit one of my grenadiers, causing her to bleed out. Luckily my gunners and sharpshooter carry medkits and then I had my specialist revive her. Fought about 6 berserkers. Advent Lieutenant was only the 25ish HP version, honestly if I had scouted the 50 HP 6 armor one I think I would have just pulled back.

Force level 12 could have been archons but I didn't really fight anything force level 12 worthy. All in all a good mission. Still that command pod sneaking up on me could have gone bad. It was right when I started relocating and got caught in bad half cover.

To clarify, the action xcom is performing when they "slap" their rifles is not racking a slide. That's how you chamber a round in a pistol.

What they're actually doing is attempting to compensate for their reduced dexterity from wearing gloves. Slapping the bolt catch to send the bolt home and lock a new round in is easier for some people to do than pressing the bolt catch. I myself always use my thumb but it's mostly personal preference.

I suspect XCOM does it because it looks cool.

Just got XCOM 2 yesterday, just did the Guantanlmao Ayy (black site) raid in month 2 and am really loving it so far. The new focus on aggressive gameplay really changes things up.
Something I'm noticing however is that I seem to be losing 1 or 2 troops every other mission, and despite my efforts I don't know if I'm progressing the game fast enough to stop the Avatar Project. (it's already at like 5 points or something) Any advice? I know I probably won't beat the game first run, and am more or less just doing my best and trying to feel things out.

Don't get scared by the Avatar Project, just make sure you always have a story mission available or an alien facility so you can attack it and set it back if the ayys start making too much progress.

Losing troops can start to snowball, try bringing one rookie or something on missions so he can get carried by your higher leveled up troops.

Usually stupid mistakes like split squads and getting overwhelmed like you said, but sometimes it's just outrageous shit like the aforementioned stun lancers quarterbacking through everybody's overwatch to one-hit someone through a wall, or a bunch of failed dice rolls. I mainly just chalk it up to the fact that I haven't played a strategy game in a long time and need to work on risk management.

I'm so disappointed with the implementation of psionics in XCOM 2.
The way it is now it's just another flat and boring class to level. I liked the idea of layering skill trees on top of skill trees so once you had your elite squad of normal soldiers you could then decide if you wanted to subject them to genetic engineering, cybernetics enhancements or just try and see if any of them had any psionic potential. You never quite knew what the end product of your soldiers would be like, while now you know exactly how it'll end up as soon as you see what class gets rolled for it

Yeah, the SGT was selected and I'm also using Roulette Plus, so some soldiers will have way more perks than their rank would otherwise allow due to "perk merging." Dense Smoke will give Smoke Grenade if you roll it later on in the skill tree and don't already have Smoke Grenade, for instance.

With or without technology, humanity has the potential/gift and that's what the Ethereals are after. It would be quite doable to make a setting of Fantasy/Medieval society going against invading UFOs.

Alternatively, XCOM could go the Fantasy route in some aspects. Just look at Destiny and it's reasons for implementing swords in it's setting with Sword Logic. That's just an example of how it could work.

So I've been playing XCOM 2 for 12 hours now and I'm ready to quit. Not trying to shit on the game, but I just cant handle some of the mechanics.

This is the first XCOM game I've ever played and I rarely play strategy games at all. I was struggling a ton at first so I put it on beginner and started enjoying it more, but it felt too easy. I switched it back to normal (or the equivalent) and found I was either getting my entire squad wiped or losing like half my units every mission. I usually really like permadeath but it seems way too frequent here. It feels like a waste of time to get these good units then lose them instantly, but I feel like I'm cheating if I play on beginner and every unit survives every time.

Is this just the way the game is? Should I expect to lose people every mission, or am I just awful at the game?

try to use half cover as little as possible you are just asking to get hit, frags don't miss, watch your spacing, flashes are god early, catching enemies on fire means they can melee.

Explosives are your friend. Never hesitate to blow an enemy the fuck up. Flashbangs are your friend. They have huge AOE, reduce enemy aim, stop them from using abilities, remove overwatch, remove suppression, when used on a psionic enemy it kills their zombie or frees your soldier from mind control. Always always look for high cover. Grenadiers and rangers are the strongest classes (ignoring psi). For rangers you want shotgun and concealment perks. Using the sword is too risky. Always be aware that anytime you move someone up, you are risking activating aliens. With this in mind, try to use your first move to move up as far as you intend to that turn, and then move people up in positions behind that person. This will reveal the least amount of fog of war. Unless absolutely necessary, do not dash, always blue move. And do not dash a unit on your last move or move them up really far. Specialists are important for objectives. Build them with combat abilities in general, not medic perks.

For your base, first building you want is Guerilla Ops then Advanced Warfare Center. Focus on picking up engineers and clearing out your base for the free resources.
Concealment is about getting to the best position to start a fight as fast as possible. Find good cover and/or height advantage, then open up on the enemy. Always keep a look out of heigh advantage in general as it gives your soldiers +20 aim.

Pavonis made the mistake of considering Concealment to be anything more than a scouting and ambush tool. I find it very well implemented for stealth when its the innate ability that vanilla Ranger can and the Shinobi innately has where they stay in Concealment independent of the squad. I'd think the blame can equally be put on Pavonis and the players. People kept going about the exact same solo shinobi/specialist strat and stressed themselves out so early on that it soured their whole opinion on LW2.

Imo, you should never have to stay in stealth for the whole mission. It should give you an edge early on and let you control pod activation, but past that it should be used as another tactical layer for shinobis and other stealth classes during a firefight.

It's why I fucking love the Spec Ops knife/silent takedown mod.

No you can't. When you design a game, your job is to make the most optimal/efficient way to play the game the most fun way to play it. Expecting your players to gimp themselves and enjoy it is completely wrong. And it works both ways:
A)Play the game optimally and do well but it's really boring

Is this normal at all? This is my third xcom 2 campaign and I always got this super goddamn early, but last time I had at least finished the first armor upgrade before it popped. Bradford never managed to evade the UFO either. What the shit? Am I just unlucky or does it happen for some reason?`At least I've always had magnetic weapons for this shit.

The only chance I had to delay the UFO hunting was in my first campaign IIRC but I opted to delay the avatar project instead. I've been watching Beaglerush' and MetalCanyon's campaigns on youtube and neither of them got it this early (at least Beagle got the UFO hunting for him) so I thought it was very weird it happened to me thrice.

Don't really dig the after-action format, because the main hook for me to get invested in Xcom content is the player's reactions to different situations as they unfold in real-time. This kind of footage also brings out the player's personality out better.

Music is a bit distracting as well, and a great way to drive away anyone who doesn't share a similiar taste.

Yes it has a chance of showing up after the golden path story missions with increasing percentages for each one. The nice thing about late april/may defenses is that I'm 99% sure it is a prerequisite for ufo missions to show up and every time I've had an early avenger defnce I've gotten multiple downed ufos in the camapgin.

I heard some of this but I did not believe it given how good the game is and all the praise it has. Specially with how Infinite Warfare was taken by it's fans at the beginning. It really made me think "This is the chance for something new to break through" sort of thing.
